Excellent location, close to the local bars and restuarants as well as beautiful buildings around. Good spread for breakfast.

Staff were unfriendly and not very helpful. Got back to hotel at 11.30pm and could not get a bottle of water as bar was closed and complimentary water station empty. Hotel is very dated and can do with a revamp.

Although the hotel is in a ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato, restricted traffic zone) I could go with my car to the hotel (I booked a garage spot in advance). The buffet for breakfast is very good. You can even take the breakfast in the garden outside.

Rugs needs to renovated. They were very dirty. We had to request to change the room because it had a strong smell of cigarettes.

Das Personal war sehr Hilfsbereit und freundlich! Die Aussicht in den schönen Garten, beim Frühstück gab es für jeden Geschmack etwas, sehr gut!

La situation en plein centre et la gentillesse du personnel Belle bâtisse mais mériterait un rafraîchissement car déco un peu vieillotte

La salle du petit déjeuner est peu accueillante. Dommage que la belle terrasse ne soit pas exploitée. Nous nous y sommes installés mais tables non dressées et on apporte son plateau comme à la cantine.

Il PHI Hotel Canalgrande è uno di quegli alberghi che rendono ancora più piacevole il soggiorno in una città. La posizione, nel pieno centro storico di Modena, è eccellente, ma ciò che lo rende davvero speciale è l’atmosfera: un elegante palazzo storico, con splendidi saloni, arredi classici e un bellissimo cortile interno. Il fascino di una dimora d’epoca si accompagna però a un livello di comfort e di servizio assolutamente moderno. La pulizia è impeccabile, la colazione ottima e, anche in pieno agosto, l’aria condizionata funziona perfettamente sia nelle camere sia in tutti gli ambienti dell’hotel. Il personale è estremamente professionale, disponibile e gentile. Un ringraziamento particolare al signor Massimo per la sua cortesia, attenzione e professionalità. Un albergo con una vera identità, elegante e accogliente, profondamente legato al carattere di Modena, nel quale tornerei senza esitazione.

Très bel hôtel, bonne climatisation, agréable jardin, bar. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié les rafraichissements proposés (eau, grissini) dans le lobby.

Upgraded ourselves to a larger room the decor was in style of the old palace as it once was.

When we arrived we booked a table in the restaurant at 19:30 but when we went there, the restaurant wasn’t open. We had to search for someone to help us, as it was the person on the reception who had checked us in, hadn’t even made our reservation.

Hotel buen ubicado con mucha proyección, con zonas comunes correctas y buen desayuno.

Al hotel le falta una rehabilitación, las dos habitaciones que nos alojamos el aire acondicionado que hacía mucho ruido y no enfriaba, por lo que pasamos mucho calor. Las habitaciones daban aspecto de falta de limpieza.

Das Phi Hotel Canalgrande in Modena hat unsere Erwartungen in jeder Hinsicht übertroffen. Die Lage direkt am Stadtzentrum ist perfekt, um die Stadt bequem zu Fuß zu erkunden. Der Service wird dem Namen ein hervorragendes Zeugnis gerecht: Schon bei der Ankunft wurden unsere Koffer direkt aus dem Auto geholt und aufs Zimmer gebracht. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der kostenlose Parkservice – ein exzellenter Komfort, den man so nur selten erlebt. Das Zimmer war äußerst großzügig geschnitten, blitzsauber und dank der gut funktionierenden Klimaanlage stets angenehm temperiert. Das Innere des Hotels erinnert mit seinen stilvollen Details ein wenig an ein elegantes Schloss. Ein absolutes Highlight ist das umfangreiche und leckere Frühstück, das in einem eindrucksvollen, großen Ballsaal serviert wird. Den Abend kann man zudem wunderbar in der gemütlichen Hotelbar ausklingen lassen. Wir waren rundum zufrieden und kommen sehr gerne wieder!

Hôtel remarquable à tout point de vue

Die Lage war perfekt, nur 100 Meter von der Fußgängerzone entfernt. Das Hotel hat den Charme eines alten Palazzo mit hohen Decken, Kronleuchtern und passendem Mobiliar. Ganz toll war das Frühstücksbuffet, das wirklich keine Wünsche offen ließ, der wunderschöne Garten und die Terrasse. Wir hatten für 25 Euro einen bewachten Parkplatz für unseren Wagen gebucht, der vom Personal geparkt wurde. Alles hat prima geklappt. Wir waren begeistert und werden sehr gerne wieder kommen!

Matelas un peu trop ferme

Der Teppichboden ist sehr alt und vermittelt dadurch einen muffigen Geruch sowie einen unhygienischen Eindruck. Auch die Klimaanlage funktioniert leider nicht richtig bzw. nur eingeschränkt. Die gesamte Ausstattung des Zimmers wirkt veraltet. Besonders beim Bett fällt auf, dass die Liegefläche nicht optimal zum Kopfstück passt und dadurch einen zusammengewürfelten Eindruck macht. Auch das Kopfstück selbst ist deutlich in die Jahre gekommen und wirkt wenig einladend. Der Spritzschutz in der Dusche ist ebenfalls veraltet und funktioniert nicht mehr zuverlässig. Wichtig ist: Die Kritik richtet sich nicht an das Personal – dieses war freundlich und bemüht. Das Zimmer selbst benötigt jedoch dringend eine Modernisierung und eine zeitgemäße Erneuerung.

Bon accueil et personnel attentif. Petit déjeuner varié. Belle demeure mais les chambres pourraient être un peu rénovée (moquette au sol). Néanmoins on profite du cadre des lieux.

Salle du petit déjeuner austère. Dommage que l'on ne puisse pas prendre le petit déjeuner en terrasse, surtout l'été.

Zimmer mit Klimaanlage, großes Bett, gutes Frühstück, sehr nettes Personal, tolle Lage.

Schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen.

La situation centrale. Tout se visite à pied depuis l’hôtel. La beauté de l’hôtel qui est un vrai palais. La quiétude au cœur de la cité. L’excellent service, et notamment l’aide pour le parking.

Das Frühstück war ausgezeichnet, Variantenvielfalt, Service zuvorkommend, Frühstück war rundherum okay. Der Nachtportier am 19.07.2026 morgens um 6:00 Uhr war sehr zuvorkommend, sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Personal der Bar sowie die Bar haben uns gefallen.

Der unfreundliche Mitarbeiter am Empfang am 17.07.2026, die nicht funktionierende Klimaanlage, die Größe des Zimmers, die in die Jahre gekommene Ausstattung des Hotels, insbesondere die alten Teppiche in den Fluren. Die in Booking genannte Bewertung als "sehr gut" können wir nicht nachvollziehen. Fazit: Preis-/Leistungs-Verhältnis mangelhaft. Der Allgemeinzustand des Hotels ist den Mitarbeitern aber bekannt.

Doesn't have A/C but that's OK. Couldn't find the stairs to level -1 and seemed ridiculous to take the lift from 1 to -1. They also need a decent LONG bread knife.

Le personnel est exceptionnel. Très arrangeant, gentil, des petits mots en français pour nous faire plaisir. Vraiment c’était très appréciable ! :) Et le petit déjeuner est bon. L’emplacement est aussi exceptionnel. Nous sommes venus voir jean michel jarre mais repartons en ayant adoré la ville !

Very old, very poor quality, mattresses were old and springy, pillows weee old and uncomfortable, a/c barely worked and it was +40 C outside! Paint was old and dirty on the walls, carpet was horrible dirty! And we payed 300€ a night!! First they have offered us room that was soo poor and it wasn’t displayed in booking even- small dirty room with dirt everywhere- on walls from water leakage, dirt on the walls and we booked 2 rooms for us and the kids! Horrible experience! I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to stay there!!

Das Frühstück war wirklich überragend, im Vergleich zum italienischen Frühstück

Die Zimmer haben einen unangenehmen Geruch gehabt, sowohl von der alten Klimaanlage als auch vom Teppichbelag. Es hat nach Schweißfüßen gerochen. Das Waschbecken hatte einen riesigen Sprung und die Duschtüre war aus der Führung und konnte nicht geschlossen werden.

Das Zimmer war für Euro 320 klein(12 Quadratmeter) schmutzig und der Teppichboden hat extrem gestunken. Die Klimaanlage machte einen unerträglichen Lärm und kühlte kaum.

Ik heb voor één overnachting half Juli ( niet een bijzonder druk of speciale periode) via Booking.com €305 betaald. Na mijn premium korting €285. Dit staat in geen enkele verhouding tot de kwaliteit van het hotel en de kamer. Een prijs rond de €120-€130 zou redelijk zijn geweest. Het hotel en de kamer zijn zeer gedateerd. De airco ( niet onbelangrijk tijdens de hittegolf) leek 20 jaar oud en maakte meer lawaai dan dat hij koelde. Ontbijt was goed en het personeel vriendelijk maar houd hier een zeer ontevreden gevoel aan over. Nooi meer!

Peccato perché a suo tempo deve essere stato un buon 4 stelle. Oggi però la Struttura storica è bella ma completamente da ristrutturare troppo vecchia e la pulizia e’ da rivedere. Vasca da bagno rovinata con grosse macchie nere, anche la carta da parati nella camera con grosse macchie. Federa di uno dei cuscini con una grossa macchia. Usufruire del parcheggio e’ molto scomodo se ti bloccano la macchina e non c’è il parcheggiatore non puoi usare la tua auto.

The room was dirty and I refused to stay in it, we were moved to a better room eventually but still the standard and the cleanliness of the hotel was very poor. Breakfast was awful despite a wide selection.

A localização do hotel era muito boa, com bares e restaurantes ao lado e pontos turísticos por perto. Fizemos tudo andando, inclusive a ida ao Museu da Ferrari em Modena. Atendimento muito bom na recepção e café da manhã espetacular, com muita variedade. Quarto espaçoso, bom banheiro!

Ponto bem negativo é que pegamos bastante calor na cidade e o ar condicionado do quarto não dava conta de tanto calor.

Brutally hot and the room had an odor. We had to ask for a fan and even then sleeping was unbearable.

The rooms are extremely dated. Dirty brown carpets, dingy corridors and really old air conditioning.

We’ve stayed here for a few years now but the hotel is slowly declining. The rooms need a serious refurb, especially the very old air con units. It must be costing them a fortune to keep them running. Every year I complain that they don’t allow you to eat breakfast in their beautiful garden and they still don’t. The restaurant manger is very unfriendly! Shame as the location is perfect.

Staff were hit and miss! We first rocked up the guy on the desk had real attitude. Not excepting that!!

Gorgeous hotel perfectly located in central Modena. The service was exceptional. The cost for the room given the quality of the hotel was reasonable. The breakfast buffet is INCREDIBLE - they make a fabulous cappuccino! I give this hotel my unqualified recommendation.

Outdated and ineffective air-conditioning system: the room was unbearably hot and it was impossible to get a proper night’s sleep.

It was a convenient place to stop and easel situated in the old town. The staff were very professional and helpful.

They didn’t have enough parking so we had to park quite a way from the hotel but it seemed safe enough.

Gli arredi, non all’altezza della situazione e talvolta addirittura improbabili… scelti senza alcuna cura. Una diffusa trasandatezza. Le porte delle camere antiquate e non insonorizzate.

Map on booking.com could have been better, it didn't give an accurate view of where the hotel was. As it turned out it was in the centre of Modena. we were travelling by train and the station was in fact too far away to tow a large suitcase on foot, but taxis always available and very reasonable.
