The team on reception were very helpful and helped book me taxis and a couple of great wineries. A really lovely place to stay for a couple of nights. Thank you very much.

Its position is perfect for exploring the Douro Valley - right at the heart of the region, with the river, the vineyards, and the hills all within easy reach. It’s the ideal base for anyone wanting to experience the valley properly. While we were there, we really enjoyed visiting the Douro Museum. A great overview of the valley’s history, wine culture and identity, and they’re only a short stroll from the hotel. We also highly recommend the Indian restaurant on the waterside. The hotel itself is high‑quality in every way: beautifully kept, comfortable and renovated to a very high standard. It was a great touch to see see photos of the building before the renovation. What made it even more special is its location in the middle of a sleepy, old‑fashioned town. Régua has the sort of shops we remembered from our 1970s childhood - small, traditional, utterly unhurried. It’s absolutely charming. Overall, we found the Original Douro Hotel to be a wonderful blend of comfort, culture and nostalgia — a perfect place to stay while exploring one of Portugal’s most beautiful regions
Nothing at all - although we couldn’t help noticing the slightly surreal loudspeaker music drifting through Régua - that odd mix of cheerful tunes echoing down the streets at unexpected moments. It added a quirky, almost cinematic layer to the town’s sleepy charm, as if someone had decided the whole place needed a soundtrack.

Les hauts plafonds apportent beaucoup de cachet, tandis que la décoration minimaliste crée une atmosphère élégante et apaisante. La literie est d'excellente qualité et particulièrement confortable. anquillité. Enfin, le petit-déjeuner est excellent, avec des produits frais, bio et de qualité, un véritable plus pour le séjour. Malgré la situation sur une rue principale, l'isolation est remarquable, garantissant calme et tranquillité tout au long du séjour.
Le principal point faible est la salle de bain, très petite et très basique, qui contraste fortement avec le charme de la chambre. La douche est également exiguë et l'espace est limité. À cela s'ajoute la présence de portes communicantes avec les chambres voisines, ce qui peut réduire l'intimité et l'isolation phonique.

Reviewed Jun 14, 2026Das Hotel liegt an einer Geschäftsstraße mit kostenpflichtigen, aber preiswerten Parkbuchten. Das alte Hotelgebäude mit den hohen Räumen wurde vor einigen Jahren saniert und modernisiert und besitzt dadurch den Charme von Geschichte und Moderne gleichzeitig (wie z.B. Parkettboden, Stuckdecke im Zimmer und moderne Fenster). Nach außen ist es gut schallisoliert, im Innern jedoch recht hellhörig. Eingangshalle und Flure sind ebenfalls stilvoll eingerichtet. Wir hatten ein Zweibettzimmer gebucht, es gab bei der Ankunft jedoch nur ein Bett plus Schlafcouch. Da wir uns bereiterklärten, die Schlafcouch zu nutzen, war das Problem dann schnell gelöst. Das große Badezimmer fanden wir toll ausgestattet, auch mit genügend Ablageflächen. Das reichhaltige Frühstück fanden wir sehr gut. Die Mitarbeiter/innen an der Rezeption waren sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, und sind auf unsere Wünsche bereitwillig eingegangen. Vielen Dank!
In dem sehr großen Raum stehen praktisch nur das große Bett (mitten im Raum) und durch eine Abtrennung die Schlafcouch dahinter (Kopf an Kopf) sowie ein paar Stühle, eine Kofferablage und eine Kleiderstange. Für einen Schreibtisch und eine Kommode o.ä. als Ablageflächen wäre mehr als genug Platz. Die Damen beim Frühstücksservice sollten aus eigener Initiative etwas zügiger auffüllen und die Tische für die nächsten Frühstücksgäste frei machen. Die Musik vom Band, die den ganzen Tag und nachts in Dauerschleife dudelt, sollte abends und für die Nacht aus eigener Initiative abgestellt werden, damit die Gäste in den Zimmern direkt über dem Foyer dem nicht so permanent ausgesetzt sind.

Staff was super friendly and helpful in organizing a last minute wine tour and boat ride. Room was larger than expected, nice decorations, comfortable bed and working AC. Breakfast at the property was amazing with homemade items, local fruits. Was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. Can definitely recommend.

Hard to find fault but not overlooking Douro river if you wanted a view although only 100m away, would still recommend.

Reviewed May 25, 2026A super clean, beautifully renovated hotel with a a very comfy bed and modern facilities. Our room had a gorgeous balcony and the staff were helpful in helping us book taxis. A two-minute walk to the train station as well. Would recommend as the best choice in town.
Nothing! Only quick notes: Not a huge amount of clothes storage. Also breakfast is continental - which we really enjoyed - but just flagging for anyone expecting hot food.

The room was huge with high ceilings. But apart from the bed and a chair, there was nothing else. No tea or coffee facilities. No storage for clothes. Found it a bit sparse.

So sensibel und dem historischen Gebäude angepasst ist die hochwertige Renovierung bis ins Detail. Zimmer hell und freundlich, wir hatten sogar einen hübschen Balkon, Betten hervorragend, groß und sehr angenehm. Schon wie wir empfangen wurden macht Freude und Lust auf den Aufenthalt. Eine gut ausgestattete Bar mit schönem Ambiente, Frühstücksbuffet mit großer Auswahl runden das Wohlbefinden ab. Die Lage ist gut. Fußläufig etwa 5 Minuten zum Douro. Parkplätze muss man in der Umgebung suchen, oder das etwas weiter gelegene Parkhaus nutzen. Das Original Douro - wir empfehlen es gerne weiter.

Faltou o leite sem lactose ao pequeno almoço que tinha solicitado. Mas foi prontamente resolvido. Agradeço a amabilidade dos funcionários

Reviewed May 3, 2026Bra läge, charmigt hotell , renoverat men behållt den gammal stilen, god frukost lite begränsat utbud men allt var väldigt gott, speciellt den hemlagade engelska marmeladen. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal, vi fick jättebra tips på restauranger bl.a.
Ganska små rum , lite tveksamt med dörrar i frostade glas till dusch och toalettdel . Undvik ev. rum mot baksidan där ett litet lokalt tågspår går förbi ( vi fick hjälp att byta rum )

Reviewed May 2, 2026Está muy bien situado, es fácil aparcar en la misma calle y la habitación y el hotel muy limpios y moderno. El desayuno rico con productos frescos, no mucha variedad pero bien.
Por decir algo.. en nuestra habita no había una mesa alta para apoyar las cosas y se echó de menos, solo una silla
