Rustic Character Iconic Accommodation, Welcoming Locals and Hotel Staff, Historical West Coast Exemplified ~ Loved It !!!
Nothing to Say; It Is What It Honestly Is, I Definitely Go Again...
I have rested at this hotel before. I'm happy to return to this historic hotel and will do so in the future. My evening was entertained by fellow travellers touring the South Island in their high priced sports cars. My evening meal was venison and it was lovely.
Great value for money! Nice to have the breakfast included and a fridge to put our food in as we were riding the Paparoa. Place has Lots of character
Would be nice to have a bedside lamp or something but no biggie
Comfortable beds, clean bathrooms & yummy food at the pub. Welcoming staff & a handy location to start the Paparoa Track. Liked that there was a communal kitchenette for making tea & coffee.
Its a historic building in a very quiet town, but thats all part of the charm.
Love staying in this historic hotel
Nothing
Very clean and comfortable. Excellent communication, great value for money. Yummy food.
An iconic historic hotel with the enchantment and feel of times gone by. Excellent dinner and breakfast with great staff. Loved the vibrant colours in the bedroom.
Rien
Enjoyed the authenticity of the place and the friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Wonderful history and friendly locals
Just loved the experience & the history surrounding the Hotel

Love the history. Also, the food at the pub is exceptional.
A great location with fabulous staff where nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good, generous portions and a wide variety for all ages.
Breakfast was good and the location is great
nothing
Room is very small , no table or chairs , no TV only just enough room to sleep . If ya want class and quaility don,t stay there ...if ya ok with very basic everything and shared bathroom you will be fine. Pity they don,t advisertise their exellent breakfast in the advert !!!
When breakfast was included i book pronto ... breakfast was very average so we paid for their bacon and eggs , Brillant
I cannot recommend this place enough. An absolute must if you are passing through. We were greeted by the two lovely bartenders in what I can only describe as an old school saloon vibe, with locals sitting outside, drinking and conversing. It truly made us feel like being part of the village. Lovely rooms, comfy beds, simple, but tasty breakfast. This is an absolute gem.
The atmosphere
Bathroom at other end of building -could be put nearer
Value for money. It lived up to my expectations. Rooms basic but clean. Good wifi.
Great place to stay
Pillows were to hard
The history the location and the local people
Nothing
Oldie world interesting
To far out of main stream
Das Restaurant. Die Atmosphäre, einfach alles!
Fab night at this iconic hotel with a bunch of mates. Great food, great atmosphere. Comfy beds and hot showers.
Love this place, The people, music, food 👌
Nothing to dislike at the Hilton 🫡
The history and the part the pub played in politics and social change
Old School, old world hospitality, we'll go back.
Welcoming Helpful A privilege to stay in such an iconic gem.
Historical place, great atmosphere, great experience !
No ensuite in the room.
Food was amazing 👏 rooms clean and beds comfy
Passive aggressive comments from the couple who owned the place made us feel like we weren't welcome. Thanks goodness for the younger staff who made up for it good service and smiles.
Need a new window on stairwell
Food was good.
The local history of this place is amazing, bathrooms and bedrooms lovely, food is awesome
The hotel its self is a bit cluttered.
Genuine old hotel. A bit worn but bags of character. Good selection of beers and a very good menu. Great venison and rum pudding Good mixture of locals
It suited me
No milk in fridge to make a hot drink.
A return visit from 2024. Room with comfortable bed, bathroom down the corridor. Old wooden building. Friendly staff, my evening meal was venison which was lovely. I will return.
Breakfast was great and plenty of it
Free beer 🍺
A step back in time with proper old fashioned hospitality. A great place!
Bijzondere karakter en aardig personeel
Supergehorige kamers. Enorm veel last gehad van buren in kamers naast ons.
Unique accommodation. Super friendly staff, Clean and awesome food.
Nothing. Not everyone’s cup of tea but exceeded all our expectations
Loved the history of the place. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy. The meals we had at the restaurant were great. Loved the venison!
One of our group is a vegetarian with a few food allergies. There was nothing on the menu she could eat as listed, and when she asked if alterations could be made to a couple of the menu items, she was told it was not possible.
Breakfast was basic but good with cereal and toast. Room was nice with lots of natural light. Great bar and restaurant with tasty food and friendly service.
Room could have had additional lighting as was only one centre light in room with 4 beds.
The staff who checked us in were very welcoming and friendly. Great place to visit and enjoyed a wander in the evening. Loved the chef's wife's guinea pigs down the road! Breakfast was good. Showers were nice and hot and we appreciated the soap dispensers and nice towels.
The woman on breakfast duty was a true character! Not sure she's in her ideal job ;-) Would have liked a better pillow. Shower drains were very slow - I forgot to mention to staff that they needed attention.
Need ventilation in bathrooms and shower Matt’s for wet bathroom floors.
Fantastic menu & beautifully cooked to order food great, gluten free, vegetarian & vegan options. Very basic rooms, very clean & tidy, very comfortable bed. Complimentary breakfast
Down stairs toilet facilities bit grim
Quirky old hotel
Nothing
Thanks very much for a great stay and was able to have my fur baby with us
Really nice time here, and the history was interesting.
The breakfast was great, the dinner was fine, and the proprietor was accomodating to our needs. The packed lunch for tramp was great. The bathrooms were clean.
Like a lot of accom in nz, this is overpriced because if it’s proximity to the Paparoa track.
Heerlijk gegeten op gezellig zonnig terras
Great spot, a hotel seeped in history.
Basic but clean everything in bag you need at a reasonable price. Birthplace of the NZ Labour Party!
Very friendly staff , lovely meals , nice new bathrooms & toilets & linen. I left something behind & couldnt believe they kindly arranged someone who was coming to our next destination 50kms north of Westport to drop it off there the next day !! Thank you so much 😃👍🤙😀
Nothing what we expected from staying previously , but nice to see up grades etc
Excellent food and staff
Classic historic hotel. Superb evening meal. Very good value for money
The room was small but we expected that
Quintessentially kiwi old style hotel , beautifully looked after with friendly helpful staff …meals great, bar welcoming, views excellent
Could have been cold in winter
Breakfast was good value. Evening meal exceeded expectations.
I liked the artwork on the walls upstairs. The venison meal was great. Nice people.
Old and rustic. Took you back in time. People were very friendly.. A quiet little village.
Northing comes to mind.
The staff were exceptional. We were stuck when a shuttle company we booked with didn't front and the hotel staff offered to drive us and relocate our car. They were so friendly and helpful.
Has old world charm The food was amazing, great portions and taste. The dinner alone makes it worth staying for.
What an absolute little gem of a place this is. We loved our stay! Of the beaten track, yet pretty close to Greymouth. The food was out of this world! The menu coversall bases and fantastic value for money. We ended up getting three courses each and ended up absolutely stuffed! The hotel is charming, with a lot of character and an amazing back story and history. The staff is so friendly and helpful! They even provided hot water bottles to take to bed on a cold winter's night! We will definitely be back!!
Not being able to stay another night
