My partner and I just celebrated a milestone birthday at Life in Amed with 35 family and friends - and I am still buzzing from how brilliant it was. The beachfront location in sleepy Lean Beach, Amed is idyllic - sea breezes rustling through the palms, the sounds of the surf. Life in Amed is like old Bali - traditional architecture, a focus on beauty and the most amazing service. In the 6 months leading up to this 4-day fiesta, Sari (the owner) and Nyoman (the manager) were brilliant. They planned the feasting, they found the most brilliant band and were full of ideas. Nyoman is a magician - there is no problem he can't solve. His team (hello Gede, Nana, Eka, Made and all the rest) were likewise making sure we all had the best time ever - and we did - and always with big beautiful smiles. Most of us did the daily yoga (so special) and ate regularly at the restaurant which serves tasty and fresh food. We lay by the pool, went snorkelling, got massages. We did it all. We stayed in the Perfumed Garden 3 bedroom villa - which looked out to sea. My family and friends were scattered around the other rooms. Not only lovely but great value for money. I feel like a review cannot do justice to all the amazing help and service we received. My partner and I, family and friends have come home with the best memories.
I stayed nearby and came to this beautiful property for yoga and breakfast. Both were wonderful! The teacher, Nuri, noted that she tailors the class to the ability and energy of the participants and since it was just me I felt like she read my needs perfectly! It was a nice mix of deep stretches without being a bunch of planks and long holds and calm and relaxation without being too easy. I have practiced yoga for 15+ years and appreciate learning different styles. She taught an unforgettable class, infusing movements that felt like Balinese dance arm and hand movements. So beautiful yet strong and allowed me to feel graceful, not my strong suit! Breakfast options are everything from local (nasi goreng) to pancakes, eggs any style, fresh fruit, and options for muesli/chia/flax etc. The staff were very attentive and friendly. And side note: Amed is the place to be for rainy season! Not as much rain and no flooding problems like in the south. A great place to drop in and feel relaxed right away with plenty of options for snorkeling and diving everywhere and sunset watching and nightlife about a 10 minute ride away.
I went to their spa today. Best massage of my entire life – hands down! Life in Amed – Luri is pure magic. I’ve had a lot of massages in my life (Bali, Thailand, Europe, you name it), but nothing comes even close to what Luri just did. This wasn’t just a massage; it honestly felt like healing. From the moment she started, she was finding knots, blockages, and tension I didn’t even know existed. She reads your body like it’s an open book. She seamlessly mixed deep tissue work (the perfect pressure – firm but never painful), energy flow (I swear I could feel things shifting), long yoga-like stretches that opened me up in ways I haven’t felt in a long time, and somehow the whole thing was still incredibly relaxing. I floated out of there. 60 minutes felt like a full reset for body and soul. Because of my lung illness I constantly struggle to breathe properly, and that tension had built up terribly in my neck, shoulders, and ribcage. She released it all. If you’re in Amed, do yourself a favor and book with Luri at Life in Amed. She’s not just a therapist – she’s a healer. I’m already counting the days until I can come back. Thank you, Luri, you’re a gift! 🙏💛
Oh my god! I loved our stay! The rooms, the view, the bed, the bathrooms and the proximity to the beach made this experience one of a kind. I jumped into the ocean first thing in the morning and came back just walking one minute. Couldn't have had a better experience. Sarah the owner and the whole team are so helpful as well. Sooooooo recommended!
Positives first. Villas are nicely decorated, staff friendly and restaurant good. The snorkelling off the beach isn't bad - we spotted turtles here. However the reason for the poor rating is the disconnect between the description of the 2 bed villa on Booking.com / Qantas Hotels and reality. - queen bed not king bed - villa was not on one level - no indoor seating area as shown in photos (this was a primary reason for booking this villa) - there were two bedrooms, however no privacy as there was no door between the bedrooms - no hot tub - no desk - no TV The hotel is well aware that the information on Booking.Com is incorrect and simply said "you should have checked our website, it is correct" The bathroom was partially outdoors. Was taken by surprise to find myself staring straight at a fellow guest on their balcony as I got out of the shower one day.
Life in Amed looked lovely on photos and reviews but it was better. The vibe was friendly and welcoming, the food healthy and fresh and pretty garden. The room had a large water dispenser ( a gripe of mine is often hotels give tiny water bottles) . Staff we helpful but not pushy. We got a scooter to explore snorkling spots and local sights and it was a great start to our Indonesian adventure. House reef good for snorkling.
From the moment we arrived Villa Amed Bali felt like home. Warm greeting by the owner and staff. After a long drive and bumpy roads at times, it was a beautiful serene place. Little touches of the soft lighting, placement of tables and chairs in the grounds made it feel so special ( it was my 60th birthday treat) I chose this place for the reviews regarding slipping into the ocean to snorkel and seeing an array of colourful fish. This did not disappoint.I SAW A HUGE TURTLE 🙏🏽as well as the amazing fish not far off shore. Villa Amed is in rural untouched Bali. You will not find the mod cons of down south but the hospitality and the food will not disappoint. Little local wurung such as omang-omang ( hermit crab) was delicious fresh and right on the beach. Head to the beach and turn right. About 10 fishing boats up. Lean beach is a seaside rural community built on fishing. They leave and return at all hours of the day and night. We enjoyed listening and watching the activity ( yes they can be quite loud at times) but loved it nevertheless . We had one night in a cottage then moved into the big villa right on the beach when more family arrived. This has a kitchen and fridge which the cottages do not have ( would be great if the cottage has a fridge.Eating at the restaurant was a great option if you didn’t want to venture too far. Villa Amed offered transport into main town of Amed about 15 mins in the car. They came and collected us when we were done. Loved our 5 nights up there and would certainly recommend and return
Beautiful architecture. Comfy bed. Cold AC. Hot shower with great pressure. Walk to excellent food. Kindness from all staff. Loved our stay
We stayed at Life at Amed and absolutely loved our time there. All of the staff members were incredibly kind, positive, and helpful. There was outstanding snorkeling right out the door, and the pool and its surrounding vegetation was beautiful. Our bungalow was very tastefully decorated and very cute and comfortable. Finally, our breakfast and other meals were very tasty.
This is the most amazing hotel, we stayed in a cottage with our two children, the accommodation is beautiful and very ‘Balinese’, the staff so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant done the best food we have had anywhere in the world and is very reasonably priced, the snorkling was great, thousands of fish and we even swam with some turtles. Don’t expect a tourist hotspot as this is a fishing village at heart, but when you walk through the door to this resort, it really is like being in paradise!
Life in Amed is a special property with very kind and helpful staff. Our villa was right near the beach and it was neat to hear and see the early morning fishermen. Keep this in mind if you would rather quiet, there are villas further back. The grounds are so well maintained and the pool is beautiful and deep. We enjoyed a yoga class and many good meals. The fish and satay were cooked better than anywhere we have eaten so far in Bali! We didn’t have transportation and they organized rides whenever we needed. A great place in Amed!
An incredible place, comfortable rooms, lovely outdoor shower, super friendly staff, also has the best food in Amed too with lots of healthy, veggie and even gluten free options, the pool and aesthetics all round are just beautiful. There's even a place to do yoga. Highly recommended
Walking into Life in Amed, is like walking into paradise. The garden and pool area is picturesque. The property and gardens are well maintained. We stayed in a cottage and then moved to a 2 bedroom villa. The cottage is clean and cosy, with pool views. I love the villa, it is so spacious and beautifully presented. It has ocean views and a private garden. The staff are friendly and helpful. We dined at the restaurant on several occasions. The food is delicious and healthy. I love the 2 friendly house cats. There is an amazing spot to snorkel, from the beach near the hotel. My husband and I were surprised by the amount of coral and marine life at this location. It is spectacular, with very few people snorkelling. I noticed a sign at Lipah Beach which read "the best snorkelling spot", I'd have to disagree. The best snorkelling spot is near Life in Amed, by far!
A great option in Amed. Out of the main village on a lovely beach with amazing snorkelling. Staff at the hotel were super friendly and helpful. Bungalows are simple and very comfortable. Restaurant is great - provides gluten free options. Yoga is offered in the morning.
Life in Amed is the beautiful, peaceful place that I hoped it would be. Cottages are comfortable, cool & bed was sooo comfortable. On a working beach - beautiful sunrises & sunsets, fishermen who leave before dawn like ghosts. The service is beautiful- kind & very thoughtful . All staff are genuine & took the time to get to know their guests. A special thank you to Ekka - for keeping me hydrated. The food is amazing - fresh, local & healthy. Many of the staff have been there for 20 years- to me that speaks volumes. A true slice of authentic Bali. I will be back. Suksama ,Life in Amed. 🙏🏻
really nice staff, wonderful food and lovely rooms🧘♀️✨🌸 I have been on the most wonderful yoga stay, and everything was more than good🙏 can really be recommended ! it is located in a quiet and local area with nice people and a nice beach I had my first snorkel trip🦀💦🐠
This was our second visit this year to Life in Amed. We absolutely love it. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff are amazing, nothing is a bother and they’re always ready to help. The restaurant is awesome, excellent choice of food. Such a relaxing atmosphere overall.
Fantastic place to spend a few days to unwind. We spent 10 nights here and loved every minute. The staff are friendly warm and just wonderful people. The yoga in the Shala was amazing, with sea views it felt like paradise. We were sad to leave and it was heart warming that all the staff came to say goodbye the day we left. Nothing was too much trouble, the restaurant had great food and their margaritas outstanding. We can’t wait to go back and stay again. Thank you for our wonderful stay 😍
Cute and very clean bungalows. Comfortable and relaxing. Amazing restaurant with delicious, healthy meals. Friendly staff and always willing to help. It's a reminder of Bali a couple of decades ago. Beautiful lush vegetation surrounds, fisherman still heading out to sea and simple living in a relaxed setting. I'll be back!
I reserved a 2 night stay and paid a one night deposit to hold my reservation. Few days later my plans unexpectedly changed and I had to cancel my reservation. It was more then 2 weeks before my arrival. It is prime time there. It would be filled right away. However they refused to issue a refund. Very poor customer service. Verify their cancellation policy before booking or book somewhere else.
Absolutely wonderful! A big thank you to all the fantastic staff, and hello to Manis and Moka, the sweetest cats. We felt so welcome and loved every minute of our stay. The food was great. A terrific place for both relaxation and getting work done.
Had a delightful vegetarian meal, Gede, the host was wonderful the Tempe was very tasty, cooked perfectly and the salad was fresh and tasty..My wife had fish of the day with sweet potato fries and salsa was great. It was a moist and generous serving of Marlin. The gardens are beautiful. We will be back again
Excellent hotel with very helpfu and kind l staff in organizing trips. The bungalows are comfy with close access to the pool and the quiet beach at Lean. The snorkeling off the beach was great we we saw beautiful corals and a turtle too. The restaurant food was also delicious and of high quality. Highly recommended!
A small property that felt like home or family - though better than both! Loved listening to the waves. Loved our seafront villa. Loved the offer of upgrade to the Perfumed Villa with its own pool and living area - perfectly suited for retreats. Loved the staff. Loved the food. Loved the quiet location away from the crowds and traffic elsewhere in Bali. Loved that there was a driver to take us to local places and to the airport. LOVED the resident cats - especially Manis who was my best friend at the villa. Loved witnessing local life and people and animals. Loved having a coral reef at our doorstep with turtles and fish of every shape and colour. The vibrant colours, smells and sounds. How can something so cosy and intimate also be so MAGNIFICENT? That’s what I kept thinking. Perfection. The only thing I hated was leaving. Cannot wait to return
It was disappointing to see the changes to the property post covid as we had stayed many times before. The buildings and pool are worse for wear, staff not as friendly, no footwear sign at open dining room but staff did not comply… I hate having bare feet on a restaurant floor. Increased prices by far … but less for breakfast … now pay extra for bacon with your eggs? We were the only guests on the first day but were sent to the “ naughty” corner outside with our happy hour cocktails to have a cigarette… not happy sitting on a bale floor. Needless to say that was the end of us ordering food or drinks for our stay. The loud ceremony noise went for 3 days next door which I understand was just bad luck for our timing… no peace and relaxing. A discount might have helped…
Very quiet and relaxing property. A bit away from Amed itself and the roads there are very hilly and not very walkable so we couldnt walk to the main part of the village to book water activities, but you could get there easily with a scooter. The staff helped organise a snorkeling boat trip with some of the local fishermen though, which was very helpful. The restaurant on site was wonderful and we ate multiple meals there.
WiFi very bad - not close to local restaurants - services are expensive (they proposed 1.050m for the airport for 5 people .. we paid 0.6m and grab opposé 0.66m)
