Our room was lovely. Shower a good size, balcony very nice. A treat to hear the waves at night whilst going to sleep. The staff were wonderful - going above and beyond for you.

Très bel hôtel avec une magnifique terrasse pour le petit déjeuner et le farniente à la piscine. La décoration est de style britannique pour rappeler le passage de Winston Churchill en 1950. Personnel aux petits soins pour les clients.

Notre séjour s'est déroulé pendant la fête du sabre noir, et notre chambre était à 50m de la scène, avec musique jusqu'à 3h du matin pendant 4 nuirs et agents d'entretien qui passaient les souffleurs dès 7h donc les nuits n'ont pas été les meilleures. L'hôtel nous avait prévenu de cette fête 15 jours avant notre arrivée (alors que nous avions réservé 4 mois avant), ce qui était trop tard pour réserver ailleurs car les hôtels étaient complets à cette période. La réceptionniste m'a informée qu'il y avait des fêtes toute l'année à Camara de Lobos, ce qui en fait un village très animé et d'ailleurs un des plus charmants de la côte sud de l'île mais il ne faut donc pas y chercher le calme. Ou alors prévoir les boules Quies.

Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt, tolle Lage, saubere Zimmer mit bequemen Betten und schöner Aussicht, super Frühstück.

The staff were lovely. Helpful and attentive. Dinner was excellent, a good menu and well prepared food. The facilities were clean and well organised.

The air conditioning was sporadic at best and the ventilation only worked on one occasion. The alley at the rear of the property is noisy into the small hours. This left us juggling the street noise and suffocation. Breakfast was substandard. Shortages of basic items such as scrambled egg and croissants and cheap ingredients such as synthetic bacon and factory chipolatas.

O atendimento é excelente em todo o hotel. A Senhora Mena recebeu-nos muito bem. Todo o staff foi fantástico. A localização é excelente. Todo o hotel cheira muito bem. O quarto é muito confortável. O pequeno-almoço é muito bom, com uma vista para a baía. Vamos regressar.

The view was ok.

This hotel was extremely disappointing from the get go. I’m truly flabbergasted the hotel has such high reviews online after seeing the condition of the property in person. Multiple very visible and gross stains on the carpet leading to our room — unacceptable for a 4 star property. The walls in reception and the hallway were damaged in multiple places, as well as dirty and scuffed. The room itself was decently clean at first inspection, but the bathroom was very musty / moldy smelling with multiple mildew stains in the shower & toilet area. We were supposed to stay 4 nights but immediately asked to check out early and get a refund. We were offered a half refund - we took it because staying here would have ruined our vacation. Not happy to have had to pay for 2 nights here when we only stayed one. Would never go back nor recommend to anyone.

Comfortable hotel with lovely staff. Breakfast is great. Housekeeping first class. Rooftop pool with fabulous views across the small bay. Restaurant does not look special but we have just eaten the best clams, sea bass and scabbard fish ever. Location and atmosphere are wonderful. Relax and stay for as long as you can

Die Lage in der Bucht von Camara da Lobos ist großartig. Der Blick aus den vorderen Zimmern in die Bucht ist sensationell. Der Liegebereich am Pool ist ok. Das Frühstück ist wirklich gut mit vielfältiger Auswahl.

Es gibt 2 Wohnbereiche: im Haupthaus mit Zimmern nach hinten grenzen an die Restaurants und sind laut. Abgesehen vom Frühstück, sollte man das Restaurant zum Dinner meiden. Ich bin nicht überzeugt, dass es einen gelernten Koch im Betrieb gibt. Der Fisch ist lieblos und geschmacklos angerichtet, dafür wird das Gemüse mit einer Knoblauch-"Sose" übergossen. Das Alles ist wirklich traurig, weil man schön sitzt mit Blick auf die Bucht.

Breakfast and dinners were delicious. We especially enjoyed the espatada and fish dishes, prepared to perfection. The service was also excellent. All staff members were professional, helpful and courteous.

Great location on the harbour right in town and beside all the restaurants & bars. Staff very helpful. Complimentary chocolate & water on arrival nice touch Nice roof top restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Food good.

Our room was small. The shower control was awkward to use. We were on ground floor and the hedge in front of our window blocked the sea view we were expecting.

Allocated a disabled room, which we hadnt booked but moved to another. Broken balcony chair, wasn't fixed same day but then we moved. Second room water pressure very low but put up with it.

A lovely hotel with amazing views from the balconies and the restaurant. All the staff are really helpful and friendly, I'm a coeliac and they could accommodate that really well both at breakfast and when we stayed in the hotel for our evening meal. I mentioned to one of the waitresses, Eduarda, on my first morning at breakfast that I would love a gluten free Portuguese custard tarts, she then asked the chef who managed to get some for me! She was a lovely and helpful waitress throughout our stay, thank you Eduarda.

This is our second stay at the hotel and we are already planing our third visit. We love this place! The beautiful, tranquil location, our room with a balcony overlooking the harbour, the terrace at the top with pool and fantastic restaurant, the pavement cafe bar, great for people watching are all perfect 👌 And the staff, so helpful, friendly and professional. To Nadia, Min, and all the staff in the restaurant and at reception, in the cafe and throughout the the hotel, thank you all for making our week feel so special :)

Location is amazing, the colonial atmosphere very charming and the level of service and professionalism of staff is outstanding.

Picture quality location. Historic hotel, dated, serviceable accommodations, good WiFi, fruit and sweets for breakfast, rooftop pool, and NO PARKING! We had to park in a parking garage 5 minutes away where we had to pay by the hour and the machine only took coins.

Location is really good. The stuff very helpful and friendly .

We loved the property, the decor is quite old school England which is nice albeit could do with a bit more atmosphere (music?)

A lovely, lovely hotel in a beautiful location. The staff, without exception, were all great and so friendly, but special mention goes to pool man Min (from Nepal) and Leonardo in the restaurant. Thanks to all of the staff, you're all a credit to the hotel!

From start to finish our 10 nights here have been fabulous. We leave (reluctantly) tomorrow! Sleeping on the first floor with a balcony has been wonderful. Listening to the waves as we fall asleep and then when we wake up. The staff are all wonderful and so helpful and friendly. So many to mention.... John from the upstairs bar, Daniel, isabelle, Anna & Martim from Reception Nadia and Eduardo- so smiley at both bars Alexandre- downstairs bar. All the staff are lovely and are a credit to the hotel. Easy to jump on the local bus and a few ubers/bolt taxi. Local restaurants all lovely. 100% recommend

Beautiful location for small select hotel, wonderful views, quaint fishing village. Very noisy with hoards of day trippers. We had room on second floor with balcony and sea view. We were looking forward to being able to sit on balcony and enjoy the views, however this was not to be. There is a public walkway/road that runs underneath balconies with a continuous stream of people walking, scooters, cars and motorcycles passing, therefore no privacy and noisy. This completely spoiled our holiday. Bedroom was spacious, however not enough storage space. Bathroom again had no storage space, apart from one shelf above sink. Shower cubicle was large, floor needed a good clean. Pedal bin (no liners and rusty) and was not emptied regularly. Plenty of hot water. All staff extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant on third floor, breakfasts - varied selection to help yourself, coffee/tea served. Dinner is also served here. Special mention to Joao, Leandro, Claudio and all restaurant staff, very helpful and friendly. Also to Daniel on reception ( a font of knowledge) and Martin( trainee). Reception and lounge area in original building and this was also a bar serving food to the public as well as hotel guests. We won’t be returning to this hotel.

Charming small village on picturesque bay of small fishing boats. We stayed for 1 week - 2 nd floor room with great view. Rooms not too large, but wonderful Village is nice break from the Funchal nearby and all the driving and hiking Great restaurants all walkable Staff was wonderful Highly recommended, esp sitting in afternoon having a beer relaxing

Me and my wife came for a week, and were very well greeted and welcomed by the staff member Francisco. His hospitality was always at best, aswell as his mood. Next time we visit madeira we will come to Pestana Churchill again. We loved the whole experience!

The best thing about this hotel were the helpful staff. Every query dealt with and car hire similarly with a smile and a bit of conversation (in English or one of seveal other languages that everyone spoke). Our room was on the first floor overlooking the bay and it was well worth paying extra for the sea view. Hotel is good for breakfast or a snack at the bar at lunch time. There are good restaurants round the corner from the hotel & we usually went out for our evening meal. Roads are not too daunting and hiring a small car was 50 euros a day including insurance etc. Hotel is a bus ride from Funchal - you can walk along the coastal path if you're feeling energetic. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wow from start to finish super clean accommodation maids daily staff friendly. Very modern and well looked after. Breakfast was good.Wasn't to impressed with there restaurant. Had a bit of issue but was resolved respectfully,

An dem Hotel gibt es nichts auszusetzen: Super Lage, schönes Zimmer, sehr gutes Frühstück und sehr nettes Personal. Die gut deutschsprechende (!) Rezeption hat unsere Ausflüge perfekt organisiert. Man benötigt hier eigentlich keinen Mietwagen. Wir wurden zu allen Ausflügen vom Hotel abgeholt. Und da gibt es ja auch noch den sehr preiswerten Busverkehr: Camara de Lobos nach Funchal für 2,65 EUR! Alles in allem waren das perfekte Tage!

We stayed in a room located in the main hotel overlooking the bay. Comfortable bed, decent sized room with a smallish bathroom with an adequate shower. Very good, helpful, friendly and profession staff (inc reception staff, bar staff, those serving breakfast and looking after the pool side and sauna facilities). Very fortunate that our room was ready when we checked in and had access to drop of suitcases etc.

Update the bathroom and provide more hangers in the wardrobe.

A wonderful hotel made extra special by excellent, friendly service. I noticed previous reviews rated the breakfast highly. I would agree but the evening meal in the hotel's restaurant deserves praise. All food was fresh, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. It is a very relaxing restauant with a superb view over the bay. The perfect place to enjoy a glass of Maderian wine as an aperitif. The food takes a little time to prepare but I was more than happy to wait for top quality food freshly made rather than the pre made heated up stuff you encounter so often these days. The chefs at this hotel are excellent. I must make a special mention of a couple of members of staff who were particulalry helpful. Nuno Gomes and Joao Freitas were wonderful and the hotel should be proud of them.

The room overlooked the bay. We were on the ground floor so lots of people walking by but that didn't bother us. The staff were so friendly, the breakfast was amazing, buffet style, sitting outside overlooking the bay. We ate in the restaurant one night and is was a delicious meal. The rooftop pool and sunbeds were wonderful and the reception staff were so very helpful.

Service and food was top quality. Nadia Cabral service was fantastic. One of the best services in Madeira. Everything was well delivered. I plan to rerun.

Had a great stay at Churchill Bay. The cleaning service was perfect, the breakfast was delicious and with breath taking view over the bay. The fishermen boats decorared the bay as Winston Churchill’s paintings.

Het was allemaal geweldig, de ligging met uitzicht op de baai, het personeel, behulpzaam en heel vriendelijk, het ontbijt was fantastisch en ook het zwembad op de rooftop. Het bed was helemaal top!

Ik vond de kamer aan de kleine kant, die had ik wat groter verwacht.

1. The rooms are small, not much space -glad we had a balcony 2. Poor quality of towels -see photos 3. Breakfast was chaotic with no system. I think this is partly due to the fact that there was different staff each morning. No one was proactive and only reacted when asked. On one morning I asked for some tea on 4 occasions, when it arrived the pot was half full and cold. It had been lifted from another table that had been used! Staff do not clear used items from your table until you have left leaving you with very little room. On one occasion I handed a waitress a used plate and knife and she handed me the used knife back to reuse! If you needed more cutlery you had to get it from another table that was set up. On one occasion a waiter (Leandro) provided excellent service - he should be in charge of staff training! 4. Rain shower head did not work

Overall an amazing stay at this cute little hotel on a fabulous location. Very nice staff and great service.

Es gibt keine vernünftige Trennung von Toilette und Zimmer, es ist sehr „hellhörig“. Bei offener Balkontür im Erdgeschosszimmer sitzt man quasi auf der Straße, die tagsüber sehr laut ist. Belästigend sind die „Einweiser“/Bettler am zu nutzenden öffentlichen Parkplatz, meine Frau hatte etwas Angst.

My partner and I recently spent four nights at Pestana Churchill Bay and enjoyed it very much. The hotel’s position in Câmara de Lobos is ideal. Our room and its balcony offered a wonderful view of the bay! We were particularly impressed by the standard of cleanliness throughout the property. The service was consistently professional and attentive. We would certainly recommend Pestana Churchill Bay to anyone seeking a refined and well-managed hotel in this beautiful part of the island.

This is a brilliant hotel that ticks all the holiday boxes - fabulous welcome, professional staff, beautiful rooms, stunning location, quiet and peaceful, the sound of the sea and waves at night, great breakfast, fantastically clean, lovely rooftop terrace and sun loungers. So so good. All of it. Special mention for Isabel and Daniel - front of house service managers - who were both really excellent. We stayed for one week and loved it all. We rarely say we will be back as we like to visit different places but this hotel and place is something special - we will be back! Obrigado team Pestana Churchill Bay!

We are at Madeira airport waiting for our flight back to Bristol. One week here wasn’t long enough. We cannot find fault with the hotel. Accommodation was clean and the view from room 116 on the ground floor was spectacular. Sea view to wake up to. Quiet and peaceful. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. Exceptional. Particular praise goes to Daniel on reception, born in Madeira, knowledgeable, friendly and genuine. Others on reception were also very helpful. The waiting staff were lovely. I am ashamed that I can’t remember the woman’s name who worked so hard. Dark hair, petite with tattoos, you were lovely, thank you. To the ladies who cleaned our room, please come and help in my house! The hotel could do with more staff at times, as the few worked so hard. The car parking near the hotel attracts homeless people who ask for money when you are finding somewhere to park… do not feel obliged to give. There is free parking up the hill behind the petrol station. Ask Daniel, he will advise. He will also recommend the car rental to use, excellent they were. No hidden charges. We will return. We have just returned from an excellent stay at Pestana Churchill Bay. We had upgraded our room and had a balcony overlooking the harbour and the village. We had a very relaxing week people watching in the mornings which were mainly sunny and warm. The sun moved round at about 1.30 pm and the temperature dropped and the breeze increased. Our room was kept spotlessly clean by Jessica who was friendly and very hard working. The bedlinen and towels were changed regularly and the floor was mopped every day. The other staff were also friendly and very hardworking, especially Nadia, Gwillem, and AnneMarie. The breakfast buffet was extensive and the dinners were good. It was not warm enough to eat outside and so we made sure we reserved a table if we wanted to eat there in the evening. Our return flights were cancelled due to high winds at the airport and Jet2 kept us well informed and arranged for the hotel to provide evening meals at no cost to ourselves for the extra 2 nights and we were able to remain in the same room until we left. We were very impressed with the way in which the delay was dealt with by Jet2 and the hotel as it must have made a lot of work the staff of both organisations.

Everything, the location was perfect for a quieter get away than Funchal. Walking distance to restaurants, beaches, walks, etc.

It is in a central location, so there are people near your room. Not a negative for us, but maybe for some.

Die Zimmer sind relativ eng, aber da man auf der wunderschönen Insel sowieso meist draußen ist stört das nicht

The hotel was clean and had friendly staff. The breakfast was excellent and extensive. Diner was also only a shortage of staff to cook. So it took a while before you received your order. But the meal was good.

We popped in here for food and refreshments,,full of history,spotless,all about Winston Churchill,Superior lounge,homely,English style interior,we werte made to feel at home her,out side seating and service,looking out to a bare rock and stone harbour,cafes around corner,surrounded by sheer cliffs.
