The view is magnificent. Staff helpful. friendly and efficient. Tea plantation tour very special experience. Excellent meals.

Fabulous in-the-clouds location with views to die for. Staff were incredibly friendly, attentive & professional at all times. The team went out of their way to make a memorable Christmas experience which really elevated the stay! Plenty of communal spaces to lounge in.
Our room (Duncan) was lovely, but very expensive even for the time of year (Christmas). It wasn't particularly big and unfortunately was located near the bar/dining area so quite noisy late at night and early morning. Also not much privacy if you wanted to open the curtains.
It was such a treat staying at Thotalagala on an all inclusive basis for 2 nights during our 2 week trip around Sri Lanka. The bungalow is so calm, impeccably decorated and equipped with a great team. We had mixed weather (October) but still did a lot - sun rise viewpoint (Lipton Seat), a tea factory tour, walked through the tea plantations. And when at the bungalow we loved swimming in the pool, admiring the views, playing scrabble and sampling the amazing and daily changing food menu. Kanth took the greatest care of us and we also enjoyed our walks with Madhu. One of my favourite things was the hot water bottle that is placed in your bed while you're eating dinner - heaven.
Honestly nothing comes to mind.
Superb location, with panoramic views of the surrounding areas.
Nothing not to like, all exceptional.
A localização e a simpatia dos funcionários. Vista incrivel
The view was amazing
Very special. Outstanding service
The setting was magnificent. The service was great.

Beautifully appointed bedroom & sitting rooms Set in stunning gardens, with amazing views

Wonderful hotel with exceptional service. Manjula was superb and looked after our every need, all the staff were friendly and delivered excellent service. The view from the hotel is exquisite, and there is a wonderful feeling of calm and peacefulness. The food and drink are of a very high standard with wonderful cocktails. The turn down service with the hot water bottles is a lovely touch. We were enchanted with the local birdlife and entertained by a small group of monkeys outside of our room. A wonderful stay at a very special hotel and we would highly recommend.
The junior suites do not have a bathtub.
Great staff, especially the Manager. Excellent views and nature
Too classic, limited options especially when the weather is not good. You only have Lipton around, basically nothing else to do
Absolutely stunning property and surroundings! House and rooms are nice and clean but public spaces felt small for the 7 rooms (14 people). It is nice if you are happy to socialize and share space. Staff was amazing and accommodating - food was good, not amazing - a little hit or miss. We didn’t have the full board / all inclusive like others and I felt like the prices were high for Sri Lanka. Menu was more accommodating to the full board. This is a remote location so plan to be spending most meals at the hotel if you don’t have activities planned. Overall good experience!
Amazing service, beautiful views, accommodation, food.
Nothing
Incredible views, in incredibly warm welcome, super thoughtful staff (preempting our needs before we even asked), gorgeous interior, super clean yet cozy, loved it!! True 5* service. So many lovely surprises like the hot water bottles in the turn down service. An amazing stop on our honeymoon!
Maybe if the pool was heated but it was still fabulous!
Everything was perfect. The property is very well maintained with a beautiful garden and impeccable rooms. Great views from the terrace and pool. The staf is very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. We would advise having the all inclusive package to get most out of your stay. This was our favorite hotel during our Sri Lanka trip.

Thotalagala is an exceptional property in an idyllic location. Staying there is a unique experience in terms of the service standards and the stunning views. I sincerely hope we have the opportunity to visit again in the future.
There is nothing not to like at this property.

The staff The food Location - awesome place Very very special place to stay
Nothing It was all amazing
An absolute experience it was. Breathtaking views. Excellent service. Value for money. Food made to perfection. A place you could come again and again.
We've been to many 5-star hotels all around the world, and surprisingly received the best hospotality service in this Hotel during our 2 night stay. It's a hidden gem !!! The view is epic from infinity pool. The food is Michelin level perfect. They light up dome fire while you dine outdoors (evenings might be little chill) there are 2 roms with fire place & ready to be fired up upon your request. They even put hot water bags into your bed during evening turn-down service, who expects such thing in the middle of Haputale :) Definetely will come back
Amazing location Wonderful staff
Nothing.
The location is quite remote but stunningly beautiful and peaceful. The gardens and grounds are well maintained and the view of the mountains change minute by minute due to the weather and clouds. The staff is ready to answer any question and provide anything you wish. Take a tour of the tea factory, it’s short but informative!
The view and area that the property is on is breathtaking. The service was attentive and incredibly helpful and friendly. The food was wonderful and the staff took great care with facilitating our dietary restrictions.
The room sound-proofing could be considered to improve as the hallway sounds were very clear. However the rooms themselves are amazing and a great view of the property.
Absolutely amazing rooms, staff, view.
Long drive from Colombo but worth it.
Beautiful setting, very remote and high altitude. Weather was so much cooler than the south . Long trousers and Jumper recommended for evening and morning. Rain coat f you are doing hikes . We had a super time here , staff were outstanding and the level of detail was perfect. Hot water bottle in bed at night was so welcoming. Two nights to chill. Full board , all drinks , snacks all great with a lovely afternoon tea by the infinity pool.
A house with history, positive energy in an amazing location. Accommodating, extremely helpful, always smiling staff and excellent cuisine. We will definitely be back.
THE BEST stuff we have ever had. Couldn’t wish for more care and service. Amazing location, food, views, bedding. One of the best stays in my life (and I had A LOT). Highly recommend. We stayed in the biggest room and were beyond happy
This was my second stay at Thotalagala, and it was just as perfect as the first time! The bungalow is beautiful and the service beyond compare. Small and intimate, with beautiful rooms for relaxation and a fireplace room perfect for socialising with other guests. Coming into our room at night was a pleasure, with tea and hot water bottles waiting. The staff were so attentive, giving us a slightly better room and packing us a lunch when we left. We are definetly coming back!
Nothing, everything was perfect.
Where do we begin? From the moment we stepped through the door we were knew this was going to be a highlight of our holiday. The hotel arranged a free pickup from Haputale train station and greeted us with a hot towel and a welcome drink. The location and view are breathtaking, the food is amazing and plentiful, and the cocktails were some of the best we’ve had. The rooms are beautiful with such attention to detail. We won’t spoil some of the wonderful touches that you will experience during your stay, but you will not be disappointed. The main reason why this place is so special is thanks to the wonderful team of people who work here. Exceptionally attentive in an understated kind of way. In a country where we have experienced nothing but great service and genuine hospitality this place really takes it to the next level thanks to everyone we met during our stay. We were made to feel like this was our home from home and loved it so much we extended our stay by one day. The ride up to Lipton’s seat is a must and we recommend walking part way back to enjoy the serene atmosphere of walking through the tea bushes and the tea pickers. Also, be sure to walk around the hotel property. If you are really lucky you might be joined for breakfast by the inquisitive monkeys. Sure, it’s not going to be the cheapest place you stay, but in our opinion it’s worth every penny. If you are looking for a little piece of heaven in Sri Lanka you’ve just found it! Definitely our favourite hotel of our holiday.
Absolutely nothing
Thotalagala is nothing short of luxury. The staff brilliant and so attentive. Rooms are beautifully furnished and the food is exceptional
The service was one of the best we’ve ever experienced. Everyone was extremely attentive and took the utmost care of us. The food is another big topic: it was exceptionally good, so I would highly recommend having lunch and dinner, even when it’s not included in the fare. Lastly, the location and the view were simply stunning. From the hotel itself you can explore the tea plantations without any other tourists (unlike in other tourist hotspots). Moreover, some of the hotel employees may join you on hike and show you some nice trails.
Everything was perfect. This is the best hotel we have ever been to and I actually didn’t want to leave. We stayed for two nights in a Suite. The weather was really nice, the views were breathtaking. The hotel had the best staff I have ever met. It is a seven star hotel in my opinion. We had their lunch and dinner bott twice and the food was some of the best we’ve had. Lunch was $20/person and dinner was $25/person. Very good price, there was a LOT of food. Different menu every time and options! The pool was lovely also. There is a couple of nice sights you can also visit.
Just WOW
Thotalagala really is something special. From the magnificent location to the exceptional staff and attention for details, this is something to be experienced. We have visited a lot of places but this really stands out. Do not hesitate and book this wonderful boutique hotel, you won't regret.
Beautiful views, quiet environment, accommodating and attentive staff, impeccable garden and surroundings, lovely rooms with attention for even the smallest details, great food.
This was one of the most special parts of our holiday. The property is an old hunting lodge set at an altitude of around 1500m in a beautiful garden. The staff are all excellent and really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. There were so many little touches that really make you feel looked after. Will reccomend this place to anyone who wants to visit Sri Lanka. Genuine Hospitality at its finest. A****
Everything was perfect
Stunning scenery and impeccable service
Location and food exceptional as were the staff. Will be going back as this remains my favourite hotel.
I don’t usually write reviews, but Thotalagala has been such an amazing experience that I felt compelled to come and write a glowing review. Everything was spectacular, from the surroundings, to the rooms to the amazing service. It all exceeded our expectations and this will remain one of my favorite places ever.
Exceptional stay with exceptional staff, service, food and incredible scenery.
Everything! It is simply stunning!!
The place is amazing, the staff are so kind trying to make your stay above and beyond your expectations. Food, surroundings, garden, view, everything was wonderful, peaceful and laid back. They also offered me free of charge the trip at Lipton Seat and tea factory.
Nothing.
Everything ! The place is amazing. It is charged with history and beautiful. You will find books and board games everywhere to enjoy by the fireplace when the sun goes down. The gardens are a dream. There are very well curated and you will be able to observe the birds nesting in the trees. And the view ! There is no words to describe it. It is breathtaking. Finally, what we enjoyed the most was the service. We are used to travel in luxury hotels and the staff of Thotalagala have nothing to envy to the most experienced staff. The food was really good and every team member was very kind and thoughtful. They gave us a free upgrade, offered us so many little attentions that I can mention everything in this comment. They are knowledgeable and flexible, they care for every little details, they are passionate about hospitality and genuinely caring about people. And at the end, that is the thing that matters. They are the one making this place feels like home and we hope to be able to visit them again.
We loved every minute of our stay at Thotalagala! All of the staff were truly exceptional - extremely welcoming, thoughtful & proactive. As soon as we walked down to the pool towels were produced & water was brought to our sun loungers. The food & drinks were also amazing, special shout outs for the welcome hot chocolate, afternoon tea & the most delicious Sri Lankan breakfast of our stay. The room was extremely comfortable and the villa is absolutely beautiful. The shower was fantastic. We loved the pool - it looked stunning & was lovely to swim in. Beautiful sitting rooms with fires in the evenings where we enjoyed playing games and reading. Decor was incredibly stylish and in keeping with the theme of the former tea plantation bungalow. helpfully arranged a tuk tuk to go up to Lipton seat and the tea factory - included in your stay. Picturesque local walks through tea plantations. Arrive hungry, leave satiated. A blissful, relaxing idyll in which to recuperate.
Very good food and quality of beverage especially at a such remote location. Professionalism in service. The place is unusual and definitely worth a detour, yet it is not easily accessible. Driving was quite painful.
Wonderful. Service and room are excellent
