Great facility at a lovely location. Breakfast was great and would definitely recommend a game drive with Tim into the Addo park. Slightly expensive but well worth it!

If you have a lot of bags request a room downstairs as there are quite a few stairs to climb to get to your room. Quite a workout with heavy bags>

Breakfast for really great. well presented, very tasty. just enough Excellent location for visiting Ado Elephant Park which is close and easily accessible. Room (Rhino) was great with comfortable bed and pillows. Nice view over the river from the outside balcony. Room and bathroom are very clean and tidy.

There was absolutely "nothing" NOT to like. Service was spot on All staff members were friendly polite and very helpful. Suzette went the extra mile to ensure that everything was perfect The only thing I did not like was the fact that we could not stay longer.......

Unfortunately we did not think our room and bathroom were very clean.

Top Lage zum Addo - nur 2 min mit dem Auto zum South Gate. Auch optimal, wenn man einen geführten Game Drive im Schotia machen will. Personal sehr freundlich, Pool sauber und erfrischend, Frühstück war auch lecker (typisch englisch - pancake, Omelette, Sausage etc, aber gut zubereitet).

Das Geschirr und die Küche müssten mal wieder erneuert werden. Die Dusche lief über, wurde aber nach der Meldung sofort repariert.

Wir wurden herzlich von Suzanne begrüßt. Wir hatten das Rhinozimmer mi einen tollen Ausblick. Das Zimmer war praktisch eingerichtet. Die Unterkunft liegt in einem abgesicherten Bereich. Das nächste Restaurant war in 10 Minuten mit dem Auto erreichbar. Die Unterkunft eignet sich sehr gut für Besuche des Addo Elephant Parks.

Das Frühstück wurde portioniert in der Form, dass es ein kleines Schälchen Obst, einen Joghurt und zwei Scheiben Brot pro Person gab. Zudem konnte man sich eine Eierspeise aussuchen. Es war ausreichend , aber bei größeren Hunger vielleicht zu wenig.

Sehr gutes Frühstück und die Anbindung an den Addo Nationalpark ist perfekt.

Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Wir haben hier auf dem Weg zun Addo Elephant Park übernachtet und die Lage ist wirklich perfekt. Alles waren super freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir haben uns auch sehr sicher gefühlt. In der Nähe gibt es eine Tankstelle mit kleinem Restaurant, bei dem man gut essen kann ohne weit fahren zu müssen.

Es war leider sehr heiß und die Mücken waren sehr hungrig, also auf jeden Fall Mückenschutz nehmen! ;)

We liked the bed, it was large. The room was spacious and the bathroom as well. Also the breakfast is really good.

It didn't feel as clean, and the room had no air-conditioning.

Unser Badezimmer könne neue Fugen vertragen und an der Decke war etwas Schimmel. Holzkohle suf der Veranda würden sich über Farbe freuen.

Happy Jackal is very conveniently located 2 minutes from Addo Elephant Park. We were very nicely welcomed and had a wonderful room. They arranged a very pleasant promenade on a boat on the river including a walk on the dunes with a beautiful sunset and a hearty picinic, as well as a great safari in Addo with a nice and knowledgable ranger - besides the elephants … etc, we managed to witness a couple of lions hunting. We really very much enjoyed our stay.

Lovely big house with plenty of room. Comfortable beds. Braai facilities and access to wood (R40 a bag). The house is in a secure "estate", easy access if you read your info ahead of time.

There was a loud house party at the neighbours, kept us up until the early hours. The kitchen utensils are missing some essentials, like a sharp knife. Instructions for using the stove would have been useful.

We had an absolutely incredible stay at Happy Jackal! Suzette was an exceptional host—warm, welcoming, and full of great tips that really enhanced our visit. She was also wonderfully flexible, which made everything even more enjoyable. Our house was perfectly equipped, spotlessly clean, and very cozy. The cleaning team did an outstanding job, and everything we needed—like fresh towels—was thoughtfully provided. The location is the cherry on top: Addo South Gate is just a four-minute drive away! We’re already looking forward to our next visit. :)

Die perfekte Lage in der Nähe zum South Gate des Addo Parks, eine wunderbare Gastgebende mit zahlreichen hilfreichen Tipps, leckeres Frühstück und stilechtes Gelände mit der Nähe zum Fluss.

Wir wurden von der Chefin vom ersten Moment an unglaublich herzlich und freundlich empfangen. Man fühlt sich sofort willkommen! Auch das restliche Personal war super nett. Ein Highlight war das liebevoll angerichtete Frühstück. Die Lage könnte für einen Besuch im Addo Elephant Park nicht besser sein – der Eingang (Gate Süd) ist quasi um die Ecke. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist absolut unschlagbar!

Abzug gibt es lediglich für die etwas veraltete Einrichtung. Wenn man darüber hinwegsehen kann, ist es eine wunderbare Adresse direkt am Addo Park.

Suzette hat sehr schnell geantwortet und hat uns sogar sehr kurzfristig noch zu einer Safari erster Güte verholfen. Die Unterkunft war sehr schön, sicher und erholsam. Das Frühstück inklusive Service war fantastisch. Besonders geschätzt haben wir das außergewöhnlich präsentierte und sehr schmackhafte dreigängige Abendessen von Suzette, dem man Suzettes Begeistetung für das Kochen anmerkte. Suzette gab uns hilfreiche Tipps für die Weiterfahrt und war sehr an unserem Wohlergehen interessiert. Gefallen hat uns die Nachhaltigkeit sowie die Verwendung regionaler Produkte. Eine ungewöhnliche und schöne Unterkunft direkt am Addo Nationalpark. Der beheizte Pool nach der Safari ear ein besonderes Vergnügen.

Das Frühstück ist sehr gut. Suzette ist eine Super Gastgeberin, die uns herzlich empfangen und beherbergt hat und uns mit sehr hilfreichen Tipps versorgt hat.

The hosts are such nice and friendly people! We could do the fantastic Addo Tour with Tim and Suzette and spent practically the whole day together. We even tried the plant "spekbuam" and liked them! Right at the beginning of our Gardenroute-trip, Suzette and Tim gave us also a lot of valuable information about SA and made us feel at home. What a great experience!

Very close to the south entrance of Addo. Felt safe and comfortable. Nice braai area by the pool. Good breakfast.

Booked activities weeks in advance via WhatsApp chat with the owner, found they were cancelled or not booked because of some stories about having to fire the office manager etc. Made some accommodations as the last minute but quite unprofessional. Very embarrassing while bringing a group from overseas. Cottage we booked said 3 bedroom but it’s actually 2 bedroom with beds in a living room upstairs. Quite awkward for a mixed group of singles and couples.

Suzette was great and organised our outings + birthday cake: sunset cruise with visit to the dunes, safari at Addo elephant park. The tour leaders we had for each day were amazing: 81 and 83 years old respectively! Full of knowledge, humour and energy 👍

The grounds go down to Sundays River, so amazing view. Room was super comfortable— deep bathtub! Breakfast and delicious. I wish I could’ve stayed another night or two.

Fijn 4 persoonshuisje vlakbij de ingang van Addo Elephant. Hele aardige hosts die goede tips gaven voor de dag in Addo. Er is één restaurant in de buurt waar je prima kunt eten. Er was een kacheltje tegen de ergste kou.

Great location, so close to Addo park with beautiful views of the Sundays river from our room. The host Suzette was so helpful and friendly and booked all our activities for us. Our guide for our full day game drive, Gabriel, was so lovely, very passionate about all the animals and full of fun facts. The sunset boat cruise was amazing, especially getting the chance to walk on the dunes.

We really liked the size of the rooms and the swimming pool. It was right at the entrance to the national park.

From check-in to checkout our experience was first class. Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious. The property is very quiet and comes with a private dock on the river. We definitely recommend staying here.

The happy jackal is an incredible lodge! Suzette who works there was unbelievably helpful in booking activities for our group of 25. All the activities were amazing! The lodge is so lovely and the food was great! We will definitely come back!

The room was great. Comfortable matress, and the quietest ceiling fan in the world. Breakfast was delicious. Fruit and jams from the garden, and local eggs, plus fresh baked bread. Suzette and Tim were caring and professional. They wantrd the first Canadians to stay there to enjoy ourselves. We did. Canucks, book a visit soon. Tim drove us in his game viewer around Addo. We saw beautiful sites and many animals in their natural setting around the huge park. Our 2-day stay was unforgettable. Very close to a well-stocked SPAR, gas station and popular Taste of Africa restaurant. 5 minute drive away.

We should have stayed longer to see the dunes and cruise the river.

The Happy Jackals is a very nice guesthouse at the southern entrance to the Addo Elephant Park. We had wonderful days there. The breakfast was very delicious and varied with homemade bread, the rooms were clean and furnished in African style. Suzette is a very dedicated and warm hostess who is always available and fulfills all our wishes. Her staff are also always friendly and helpful. The safari in Addo Park with Tim was sensational. Tim showed and explained everything important about the park - whether plants or animals. He exudes a calmness that makes you feel safe at every opportunity as he points out the dangers of the various wild animals. He answers every question and gives the participants time for photos. Tim has a very good knowledge of the park, so he knows where the animals usually are. We were able to see all the animals up close. The best guide ever! The Happy Jackals is definitely always recommendable!

Very friendly staff and couple, who manages the guest house. They were very welcoming and had some great recommendations. The breakfast was delicious as well. We like that it is a eco-friendly place. They are also providing the opportunities for game drive, which we unfortunately could not enjoy due to a short stay. We are looking forward to come back.

Great management couldn’t be more helpful. The staff are outstanding and very helpful, provide great recommendations. Lovely stay in a beautiful place, watching the birds at the bottom of the garden in the morning was so mindful and relaxing. Added bonus was they do laundry for you and return it immaculate. Great stay felt very safe, breakfast was good too

Happy Jackal is the ideal starting point for a tour on the river or to Addo (2 minutes). Suzette is very caring. She recommended a good route through Addo where we saw all the animals except for lions and leopards (Maybe we didn't look hard enough.). There is a supermarket and a small restaurant 4 minutes away. The house is large, with very comfortable beds and well equipped. But we didn't really use the kitchen etc. but enjoyed the delicious breakfast from Suzanne and her staff overlooking the river before we started to Addo.

WiFi was not very stable.

The breakfast was really good and even included fresh bread. The room was very quite and clean. There is an Eco side to it as sink water is used to water the grass. Excellent location.

Suzette is a wonderful hostess. We had an excellent breakfast both days, and the facilities were exceptional. It is so close to Addo too. I can highly recommend this guest house.

Breakfast was excellent. The host Suzette very friendly. The Addo Tour a must have. To sit in front of the room while sun sets is awesome.

The pool is rather small. Fits only to cool down a bit. But that is no real reason to be sad.

We had an evening meal and breakfast. Both were adequate and pleasant. The location is close to the Addo National park which makes it good value for an overnight stop before entering the park.

Unfortunately the toilet had a leak and flooded the bathroom floor.

Suzette and her staff were nothing but friendly and helpful. The game drive with Gabriel was fun and entertaining and the gate to the Park was literally a minute or 2 away. The big powerful Fan in the room was our best friend. Breakfast was lovely with a fresh loaf of bread everyday. Maybe bovril or something other than 1 type of jam would be great but otherwise no complaints.

We were greeted by the housekeeper who was very pleasant and showed us to our room which opened out onto the garden overlooking the river. Bed extremely comfortable bathroom very clean with many extras. The hosts organised river boat cruise that afternoon which was lovely. Are in local restaurant for dinner. We chose the private game tour of Addo which is from the hotel with Tim who is Suzette (host) husband. After early and good breakfast we set off for our nearly 10 hour game drive. Tim was amazing so informative we learned a lot in that tour. The B & B had provided many bottles of iced water (essential as it was 35v most of the time) and also a picnic lunch. There were only 4 of us on the drive ourselves and a lovely young German couple and we all got along so well together. In the evening we went for dinner together and also met up with the hosts who were very interesting to talk to - a fabulous evening. Breakfast next morning delicious with a whole loaf of freshly baked bread per table. We had a fabulous stay and would definitely recommend Happy Jackal to anyone. Keep up the good work Suzette and Tim!
