Bigfin beach resort

Schöne Unterkunft in der Natur. Man ist sehr abgeschieden und hat daher einen ruhigen Aufenthalt. Der Gastgeber und sein Team sind äußerst freundlich. Das Essen ist sehr lecker!

Widok jest ładny i na tym można zakończyć plusy pobytu. Na plus było też to, że jak zdecydowaliśmy się zrezygnować z pobytu nie wliczono nam napojów.za które mieliśmy extra zapłacić do rozliczenia. Bardzo miły był też chłopak, który przywiózł nas na miejsce i stamtąd odwiózł.

Przede wszystkim kwota 1200 myr za dwa pokoje bez normalnej wentylacji, w których nie da się przebywać to skandal. Piszą, że są wentylatory, to prawda ale to te małe wentylatory, które się nie nadają do niczego w efekcie nie da się wytrzymać w tych domkach, jest bardziej gorąco niż na zewnątrz, pobyt to męka straszliwa , ociekasz potem, dosłownie pot spływa Ci po plecach, przyjechaliśmy aby zrobić snorkelling i odciąć się od miasta, a tymczasem dostajesz torturę, posiłki all inclusive to po prostu makaron i ryż z jakimś malutkim dodatkiem oraz kawa i herbata!! To nie jest all inclusive! Jedzenie okropne, pokoje duchota i upał nie do wytrzymania, na dworze spać się nie są bo komary i sand flies atakują ! Domki są na wzgórzu nie ma tam przepływu powietrza! Tymczasem na plaży i w lobby gdzie siedzi personel jest...przyjemnie chłodno ! Tam wieje wiatr i jest wifi czy płacisz za dyndanie w recepcji i stołówce! Absolutnie nie warte swoje ceny. Jeśli myślisz że schłodzisz się w morzu, nic bardziej mylnego! Od plaży wita cię ogromną tablica z przestrogą dotyczącą box jellyfish! Do tego woda jest po kostki i nie da się pływać! My wytrzymaliśmy torturę 4 godziny- ucieklismy, zwrotu pieniędzy nie dostaliśmy! Absolutnie nie warto tutaj się zatrzymać, są piękniejsze miejsca z wydajnym wentylatorem i szacunkiem do Ciebie i tego, że za to zapłaciłeś!!!

Sono venuta in questo posto attratta dalle tantissime recensioni postive (addirittura 10/10). Premesse : NON mi aspettavo un resort, comfort particolari e soprattutto, ho alloggiato solamente 1 notte perchè il mio fidanzato ha avuto la febbre altissima e siamo dovuti tornare prima. L'esperienza di questo "resort" è assolutamente selvaggia ed è una cosa che per certi aspetti apprezzi. NO corrente, in mezzo alla giugla, NO cose da fare se non rilassarti, cibo molto limitato (non eccellente), accomodation davvero essenziali, . Il problema è IL RAPPORTO QUALITA / PREZZO. Allucinante. - il bagno ha solamente una copertura non un vero e proprio soffitto ed entrano una quantità enorme di animali ( di giorno e di notte). Durante la notte mi sono ritrovata nel bagno con 4 calabroni e numerosi insetti. - NON ci sono zanzariere sulle porte dei bungalow ed è fortemente sconsigliato dormire con le porte aperte per gli animali/insetti che possono entrare. Il problema è che non essendoci nemmeno aria condizionata di notte fa caldissimo e l'unica cosa che puoi accendere è un ventilatore minuscolo - il quale andando ad energia solare non dura nemmeno tutta la notte. - il mare è MOLTO SPORCO. E' pieno di sporcizia, alghe e meduse. - NO lettini/sdraio quindi o ti piazzi sulle amache (carine ma abbastanza scomode) oppure metti il telo sulla sabbia (durissima e piena di insetti) - tema mosquitos: pienissimo. Al posto della crema solare devi spruzzarti l'autan tutto il tempo. - il personale è "abbastanza disponibile" ma nemmeno troppo. Qualsiasi tipo di richiesta aggiuntiva (un pallone, una sdraio ) non vieni mai preso in considerazione. - immersioni: non ne abbiamo fatte ma tutte le persone che abbiamo incontrato hanno dichiarato di non aver visto molto. Quindi il fatto è: o chiedi meno soldi oppure aggiungi qualche servizio con tutti i soldi che ricevi.

We have just spent 3 nights at Bigfin and we loved it. The place is beautiful, quiet and great for unwinding. We did a couple of dives too. The instructors were great and the whole experience felt easy and very safe (our last dive was 2 years ago). The food is delicious! Plenty of it and a few vegetarian options. The banana pancakes for breakfast were our favourite! Highly recommended!

J'ai adoré ce lieu ! Un charmant petit complexe hôtelier, très bien entretenu. Au calme dans un cadre magnifique . Meme si nous ne faisons pas de plongée , Nous avons passé un excellent séjour ; Farniente face a la mer dans le hamac! Les repas sont simples mais bons.

Il posto è bellissimo, con tanti posti ventilati per rilassarsi e guardare il mare. La struttura è gestita con molta attenzione verso l'ecologia. Il cibo è cucinato sul momento e ottimo. Un'ottima scelta musicale accompagna i momenti di svago. Le attività proposte (snorkeling, night walk, scuba, anche per principianti) sono facili da organizzare.

A causa del tempo, da un lato,u7h566 e della sfortuna (full booked), dall'altro, non siamo riusciti a fare tutto quello che volevamo. Forse per migliorare ulteriormente potrebbero essere proposte altre cose da fare nel pomeriggio (ad es a noi sarebbe piaciuto imparare a fare i dim sum/bao che ho visto fare alla signora, o a tagliare un cocco, o a riconoscere/cucinare alcune verdure). Un po' di paura per meduse (vista solo una però)

De locatie is geweldig! Het is echt een plek om helemaal te ontspannen. Voor ons was het heerlijk om in de ochtend ta gaan duiken en in de namiddag lekker te ontspannen in de hangmat met een boek of met een gezelschapsspel.

De vegetarische opties voor het eten zijn nogal beperkt.

Heerlijk eten en prachtige locatie met mogelijkheden voor kayakken, duiken en snorkelen. De kayaks zijn heel stevig en van goede kwaliteit. Het strand en de rustige baai is ook heel geschikt voor zwemmen, snorkelen en kayakken met kinderen. De hangmatten aan het strand zijn ook heerlijk, met prachtig uitzicht!

Het was een hittegolf toen wij er waren en de kamers hebben een hele goedwerkende ventilator bij de bedden, maar desondanks was het snachts erg warm met slapen. Daar kan het resort verder natuurlijk niks aan doen, maar handig om te weten als je niet goed tegen hitte kunt! Vooraf heeft het resort heel duidelijk gecommuniceerd dat ze geen airco hebben, dus dat was heel fijn!

Dog that bites. We were warned not to touch him but it made me nervous when he chooses to sit under your hammock or chair. Snorkeling was disappointing

Lovely small hidden resort in a beautiful bay. Including great food. More than enough. Free Beach towels for use. And enough kayaks and sups for rent. Loved this place. No mass tourism, just a basic Nice Social environment.

No airconditioning but I did not really miss it.

The most amazing location - stunning beach, lovely snorkelling and opportunities to get out on kayaks/paddleboards. The cabins are comfortable and clean - though pretty hot! Honesty bar and good food. We had an amazing time.

The lack of a/c made the nights pretty hot. But totally worth it to be able to spend time at this absolute gem.

Sea view, good food

The place uses solar so the inconvenience of charging phone or no electricity or light at times. Should do more activities like island hopping for the people that doesn’t like scuba diving. Just options of activities since the island is remote and nothing else to do.

1. The location😍 It is absolutely stunning! 2. The staff were very pleasant. The owner was very helpful with all our questions. The chef prepared good food. Cleanliness standards in the kitchen were good; we felt confident we wouldn't get food poisoning. 3. The room had a large bathroom and a beautiful view. 4. The beach was beautiful. We felt a bit like we were on a deserted island.

1. The sandflies! Omg😵‍💫 2. The presence of box jellyfish, stonefish, and other venomous marine species. The water is murky, so you can’t see what’s in it. We wore stinger suits when swimming and snorkeling (we got them in KK). Most others didn't use this, but I wasn't comfortable with the kids swimming without it. 3. The dog that lives there and is always present in the kitchen. We were told, however, that it doesn't like people and that we shouldn't pet it, as it might bite. This created a somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere. 4. The fans in the room were terrible. We were literally roasting. We heard that others were sleeping with their doors open, but we had been told not to do that, as dogs could get in.

Everything! Such a homey, luxury, calm place where there’s enough to do. As a solo traveler I connected sufficiently with the other guests and staff, and also had some quality time alone - it balanced out nicely. Plenty of hammock spots, great food 3x a day, diving/snorkling/hiking options, early nights in bed and just a great spot to slow down.

De locatie was prachtig gelegen. Het uitzicht vanaf de veranda op zee is geweldig.

Het eten had iets meer gevarieerd gekund. Maar de kookkunsten van de kok was prima.

Drømmeplass for noen dager med avslapping. Veldig bra mat og hyggelig personale, fantastisk beliggenhet. Basic men dette er en del av sjarmen. Anbefales på det sterkeste!

The location 😍😍. You have a whole island to yourself

Nothing. But they can mention that there is no reception over there. For us it was a perfect spot to disconnect from the outside world. And they have wifi over there restaurant.

Great place to escape and to meet other travelers in the common area, peace and quiet all around, plenty of hammocks to enjoy around the resort and on the beach, simple yet delicious food and of course beautiful sea!

Honestly I was freaking out about the jellyfish, not that we got stung, but there are quite a few in the morning when the water is soo inviting.

Amazing beach resort with exceptionally clean rustic cabins overlooking a stunning bay with Mt Kinabalu in the background if you’re lucky on a clear day. Good food (even for vegetarians) and friendly staff. Would book again 😊

Die Anlage war sehr gepflegt, es war unglaublich ruhig und entspannend, insbesondere durch die Hängematten überall und das Internet nur beim Aufenthaltsraum funktionierte.. Besonders war auch, dass es den ganzen Tag Kaffee und Tee zur freien Entnahme gab. Das Essen war auch sehr gut.

I totally loved it. I was a bit nervous when booking knowing that if I didn’t like it I could be stuck but if far outweighed my expectations. I stayed 5 nights wished I had time to stay much longer. If you want to truly relax and unwind this is the best place to be. Great beach great staff great food.

It is very nice and peaceful, a place to relax and scuba dive if you want. The fact that all meals are included, so it is simple!for anything you want to buy like drinks you just write it down yourself and pay at the end

Die Lage ist einfach einzigartig! Der Abholservice mit dem Boot funktioniert funktioniert prima und man hat sofort das Gefühl willkommen und angekommen zu sein. Das Essen hat prima gepasst und die Preise für die zu kaufenden Getränke sind völlig in Ordnung.

Eine kleine Kritik auf hohem Niveau: die Beschallung im Gästebereich vom Restaurant ist teilweise ein wenig laut und wird oft noch von einem parallelen Sound aus der Küche ergänzt.

The beach and setting is beautiful. Lovely views across the bay.

Staff were unhelpful and unfriendly. No welcome, no help with bags. Room was very disappointing, basic and not so clean. The don’t give you fresh towels of make up your room while you are staying. Food is served like a works canteen. Simple plain dishes. Nothing special.

The boat ride, the scenery was superb! I was lucky to spot Mount Kinabalu due to the cloudy weather forecast. The buffet dinner was so good, a big portion and an environmentally conscious business! Love the idea, hope to see more places like this.

It's not the property responsibilities since the main business is water recreation, I guess. Nevertheless, I hope there will be a clear map (doesn't have to be precise, just a marking or a simple map with signage, etc.) of the nearby hiking trails provided as well. As previously mentioned on their website/booking platform, the place also suggested some jungle trekking activities.

Wir waren eine Nacht im Bigfin Resort und es ist wirklich ein toller Ort. Schon die Lage macht es zu etwas Besonderem. Die Aussicht auf den Mount Kinabalu ist spektakulär. Die An- und Abreise mit dem Boot liefen reibungslos.

Wir wurden sehr unfreundlich vom Inhaber empfangen. Er ratterte alle Informationen wie einstudiert herunter. Zeischenfragen wurden ignoriert. Es gab mehrere Situationen, in denen sich der Inhaber unprofessionell verhielt. Ob es um Eischränkungen bei der Ernährung, Fragen zur Umgebung oder Wünsche beim Frühstück ging, er reagierte immer gelangweilt und wenig kooperativ. Hoffentlich lernt er noch etwas im Thema Gastfreundschaft dazu.

Great position

Food wasn’t a lot sometimes, the guy who cooked asked us to just take some food first, and only after everyone had eaten their part, we could get a second one.

Nous sommes restés deux nuits à BigFin et ce fut une parenthèse hors du temps. Quelques cabanes perchées sur les hauteurs d’une colline complètement isolée, d’où vous pouvez admirer la mer, vous reposer sur un hamac ou descendre dans l’espace commun pour profiter des repas (déjeuner et dîner inclus). Nous ne plongeons pas mais nous avons fait du kayak et du paddle. Il y aussi des jeux de société à disposition. J’ai beaucoup aimé le fait qu’il n’y ait pas de wifi à BigFin (sauf dans l’espace commun). Le lieu et notamment son « jardin » est très bien entretenu avec de magnifiques fleurs, arbres etc. Parfait pour se reposer dans un cadre idyllique et familial, au rythme du soleil et de la mer

nous avons eu qq grosses averses lorsque nous y étions mais ça ne nous a pas dérangé, un bon livre a l’espace commun et l’occasion de vraiment se reposer.

Bigfin Beach Resort is a wonderful place to stay in Kota Belud, perfect for travelers looking for peace, nature, and a genuine local atmosphere. The resort is set right by the beach, offering stunning sea views, ideal for slowing down and enjoying Sabah’s natural beauty. The staff is friendly and always willing to help, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. It is also a great choice for divers, with easy access to nearby dive sites and helpful assistance in arranging diving activities. We really enjoyed our fun dives with Jack, Jell and Roy. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a relaxed beach escape while enjoying the underwater world.

Beautiful setting. Beach in front and jungle behind. The only way to get there was by a quick boat ride. We loved the location. The staff were very friendly and the food delicious. Try the pancakes for breakfast.

It is hot at night with fans only. But this was no deal breaker and we highly recommend a stay anyway.

Wonderful postcard-ish place! Some of the staff was ut f the ordinary good: Our diverinstructor Jack was the best! Also Ray, on of the diveasters was a coo and fun guy! And the small-boat captain also a really good young man going out of his way to help us Great diving and great certificate teaching - Jack is the best!

- the welcome from the chef wasnt too warm and as newbie divers we missed an introduction to how this for us new divers world works - the plastic (not that there was a lot, but enough to notice) laying around on the beaches could easily have been taken care of. An idea: Place a big bin with a sign that says something like “find some plastic pick it up, the all day you’ll have good luck” to make guests become a part of the solution. And use an hour every two weeks to clean the small island too when you are at it:) - the dogs roaming around at night and the chefs biting dog, Rocky. It bit me and several other guests, but no one dares to complaint to the rather hostile chef - we had been promised karaoke and bonfire New Year’s Eve. We didn’t see any of that. It seemed like no one cared about that evening and we were the last to go to bed - at 22.30:/ - if I may, it sees like the cooperation between the head of the diving part and the chef/hospitality part isn’t exactly great. - the diver equipment could use an update

Симпатичное место, добраться можно только на лодке. Очень красивые закаты, вид замечательный. Это небольшие бунгало, без кондиционера, только вентилятор. Расположены на горе, нужно вверх идти по крутым дорожкам. Интернет работает в ресторане и немного на пляже. Ползают вараны, иногда прибегают обезьяны. В это место приезжаю экскурсии из Кота-Кинабалу из местных жителей. Даже для них это экзотическое место.

Really relaxed vibe, great food, very friendly and helpful staff who will go out of their way to make your stay great. Beautiful garden with a lot of different spots to hang out and chill, and a nice communal area where you eat and can chat with other guests or play some of the games lying around. We had an absolutely fantastic stay.

No negatives for us.

Staff were very friendly. Food was tasty with good portion sizes. Very relaxed but professional vibe for both the resort and the diving/snorkeling trips offered. Location stunning and very relaxing - a real "get away from it all" destination. Limitations on facilities are clearly explained in advance. Rooms are simple but spotless with very comfortable bed and hammocks on the veranda. Good efforts made to minimize environmental impacts of the facility.

12/10 - we loved the place and it was great to stay there for 5 nights as you can really relax and calm down. We also went snorkeling, diving and renting a kayak to see more lovely beaches. We will definitely come back! Thanks again to the team!

Parfait pour se relaxer quelques jours. Toute l'équipe fait un travail remarquable dans une excellente ambiance. Les plongées sont très belles, tout est organisé à la perfection.

Great location and nature. Hibiskus flowers everywhere, very nice views. Food (breakfast, lunch dinner) is included as well as coffee, tea (black and green) and drinking water. Food is simple but good. Cleaning staff very accurate 👍

The 4 people bunk bed room was very dark, it had only mini fans that did not help a lot. There were just sheets for the matress and cushion but not for the body, just a thick blanket without cover. There was only 1 towel per person provided. No beach towels or beach chairs just hammocks in the shadow.

Die abgelegene Lage des Resorts ist traumhaft, da hier nur sehr wenig Gäste sind. Das Resort ist mit allem Notwendigen ausgestattet. Unser Häuschen Nr. 1 war geräumig mit viel Ablagefläche und einer wunderbaren Veranda.

Manchmal ist das Essen nicht ausreichend.

Posizione super è un sacco di spazi comuni tenuti benissimo. Possibilità di diverse attività oltre alle immersioni. Cibo gustoso!

We loved it so much we extended our stay. The location is awesome - being on the side of a hill, there is a view from everywhere. I especially liked my breakfast view. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. My husband loved the kayak fishing (he brought his own rod and reel etc). The best swimming was a short kayak Paddle across to the small island.

We were happy enough with cold showers and once we worked out our device charging issues it was fine to get it done in the evening window of generator power.

Ein einzigartiges Resort! Als Flugbegleiterin habe ich schon in vielen Hotels übernachtet, aber noch nie so viel Herzlichkeit erlebt. Die Tauchlehrer/ in sind herausragend. Sehr professionell! Der Koch und das Küchenteam sind fantastisch. Alle Mitarbeiter machen einen großartigen Job.In kürzester Zeit fühlt man sich zu Hause , besser geht es nicht. Ich werde diese Unterkunft auf jeden Fall weiter empfehlen!

Everything ! The beauty of the place,even the details with the planting of flowers and plants. Food was very good. Very kind staff. Everything day, a man cleans the beach! So ok there is just electricity between 5 pm and 9 pm , but it is written in the description ! So why complain after?! We loved it there! Great atmosphere ! Not for people looking for a five star resort! But for simple people who want to enjoy nature.

This small-scale resort has it all. In a relaxing environment. You're offered a beautiful view of the bay. With it's in house diving facility or by snorkeling, you're able to explore the underwater world as you like. The rooms are basic adjusted to the remote location. They serve a simple breakfast, and lunch/dinner buffet.

Location is unreal! Feels like you’re own private beach in Borneo with a view of Mount Kinabalu and crystal clear waters. Diving available, and good home cooked simple meals to keep you fed it’s such a perfect little escape and getaway. Rooms are comfortable and everyone is so nice and friendly, we debated staying longer and longer until we couldn’t anymore!

Nothing, Bigfin is excellent and I’d recommend to anyone whether here on a holiday or like us travelling through and exploring as you go.

A complete getaway began with the boat ride across the bay to the resort. The drive to the Dragon Pearl Resort felt like we were escaping civilisation to begin with. When we stepped onto the boat the escape was complete. Three days in paradise cut off from the world beyond. The staff team were all awesome - friendly and happy to help with any question. They really made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The rooms are basic but super clean and perfect for a chilled getaway. The manager Awie really looked after us, the food was simple and delicious. The dive team gave some great advice about snorkelling (we are not divers) which allowed us to explore local reefs. Additional drinks purchases were easy and work on an honest system, which is great and adds to the chilled and trusting vibe. We loved our three days of snorkelling, kayaking and reading whilst sitting in hammocks. We’ll definitely be back to stay again. Next time we’ll even dive.

Location is fantastic. Arriving by taxi and being picked up directly on the beach by boat. Could not be better and a contrast to busy KK.

A little bit hot at night without air condition, but I got used to it. Some small insects was found at the bathroom, but it is by the jungle :)

Location Workers

With this review, I want to be as fair as possible. BigFin isn't a grand resort; don't expect luxury, but it does have everything you need to enjoy a few days of tranquility. After our visit, I conclude that it's an ideal place for diving, but nothing more. The variety in the food is practically nonexistent; during the four nights we stayed, we had the same breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For the price we paid, I think it's ridiculous to eat chicken and rice every day. They don't offer snacks at night. We went snorkeling, and having done so in other parts of Malaysia, I found it expensive and not up to par. On the other hand, the staff is very polite, friendly, and helpful at all times. I hope they can improve with this review because they really do have excellent staff and facilities, but there are many details that could be improved. After spending four nights, it's not a place I would return to.

The location is so beautiful isolated. Wonderful!

-The location is unique, literally. Isolated but not too remote, with a perfect beach, surrounded by superb jungle (and its sounds) -infrastructure is in line with what can be expected for the price (reasonable). No airco and limited power, mosquito nets, fans, adequately ventilated rooms.... with superb views!!!!! (On mount K). In fact, infrastructure is adapted to the environment and that creates also the experience - food is great (and included) - staff is very nice , without exception. Love & kindness - diving is great, and other activities are possible I liked it so much that I d come to Sabah only for that place..... Congratulations to the owners for creating this environment and the experience it offers, with their team, and being able to maintain this over time.... 🙌

Two thumbs up. This place is so well run and maintained. All staff are so kind, helpful and reliable. There is no pressure whatsoever to book any of the tours. The staff are completely open about what they do and don't offer, so no unpleasant surprises - all is exactly as advertised. I had prepared to be pretty much cut off from the world for the 3 days of my stay, but to my pleasant surprise Wifi was solid all day in the reception area and the evening hours of power supply in the rooms easily sufficed to keep my devices charged. Assorted books and board games add to the character of the place, as do the adorable cats and, yes, the two or three monitor lizards seen around. The hammocks were comfortable and in ample supply. Beautiful and tranquil garden setting, fabulous views, awesome stretch of near-private beach with lovely fine sand. And to experience all that without any noise from road traffic? Just an unforgettable experience.

No gripes whatsoever, though I did wonder why access to the beach is barred overnight, starting from 7 or 8 pm.

Absolutely everything. I can’t fault it at all. It was even better in person than in the pictures, i LOVED it and was sad to leave. I loved the staff too, learning to dive with them was incredible and im so happy to have the memories

The no electricity during the day was a little inconvenient but that’s also the fault of the government for not investing in Borneo, not the resort

Great experience, beautiful remote location and everyone was really friendly. We also did two discovery dives, which were also great.

The location was perfect - a beautiful bay in a secluded little spot . Staff were really friendly and great food ( not fancy but lovely )

Not a problem for us but steel steeps if you are a little wobbly on your feet.
