Casa do Rio - Douro Wine Hotel by Vallado

This property is stunning!! From the scenic winding road leading you down the vineyard hill opening up to the Douro River, this place is beautiful. You’re met by the staff who check you in and depending the room you’ve booked (we splurged for a suite for our honeymoon) you are given a golf cart to around the property. The suite was located right among the vines where you have the most incredible view from your own plunge pool. The suite was carefully thought out with powered black out blinds, a luxury mattress and bedding with a spa like bathroom to complete the space. We had a picnic lunch delivered to our suite which we took to the picnic space which has another pool to cool yourself off after eating your lunch with a view! There were options to use paddle boards or kayaks on the Douro river which was nice to explore! The private restaurant on site was delicious! You have a handful of choices to select from nightly and nothing disappointed!! This place along with the kind helpful staff, is WORTH EVERY CENT!! Treat yourself! Book the stay! And get the suite

The only recommendation I’d have is I wish there were a way to make the suite pools cooler in the scorching summer heat. We used the main pool during the daytime which was nice and cool, but wish the suite pool were cooler

Perfect! I feel like we truly experienced the area at this peaceful retreat! The room, food, location, and PEOPLE were exceptional!!!! We especially enjoyed the Foz Coa night time engraving tour which is nearby and kayaking the river! I cannot wait to return in the future!

Struggling; the cappuccino machine in the kitchen, but as they had an espresso machine in the dining room, it didn’t really matter.

Staff were amazing. Super friendly. Professional. We loved Eullalia and Beatrice. The food was also delicious both breakfast and dinner + wine pairings. The wine tasting experience was great. The selection of wines were well curated. The VR wine making experience is cool and futuristic. Beatrice was super knowledgeable and kind. Great that we could use the kayaks/paddle boards on the river for free. The drive there is paved which made it way more comfortable. The pool in the vineyard suites is heated which was amazing, really made our experience so much better. The units are built with love. Especially the pigeon house designed bathroom. You can tell there is a lot of passion and care put into this hotel. Thank you for a pleasant stay!

At first it wasn’t clear whether we could use the golf carts ourselves for the vineyard suite. And the first couple trips we drove our car which was not comfortable. We were somewhat surprised that there is no room service at the vineyard suites. It would be good to mention at the start of the stay what complementary services the guests can enjoy. Like the Kayak/Paddle. Wine tasting. Free Spa massage/facial. As we often had to ask and there were free services that we only found out about too late.

Casa do Rio ligger avigt till med en slingrig och brant väg ner till hotellet. Det är dock väl värt resan. Hotellet ligger med utsikt över floden med möjlighet till bad och paddling. Mycket trevlig vinprovning och mycket god middag. Rummen ligger med en otrolig utsikt ner mot floden.

Inget särskilt. Priset är lite högt, men vi tyckte det var värt slanten.

Um dos lugares mais lindos que já fiquei na minha vida e um dos melhores cafés da manhã que já tomei. Fazer o check in e ja fazer a degustação de vinhos é incrível. O jantar harmonizado tbm é tudo de bom. E sem palavras pra atenção e profissionalismo da equipe: todos impecáveis ❤️

L'établissement est formidable : Cadre d'exception au milieu des montagnes, des vignes, le long du fleuve du Douro. Notre chambre offrait une vue magnifique, était très calme et le personnel était serviable tout en restant discret. Je recommande vivement cet hôtel !

S'il y avait qu'une chose à mentionner, ce serait le fait que l'hôtel est à 2h30 de route de l'aéroport de Porto. Il serait peut être intéressant de proposer un service de taxi un peu plus compétitif que les taxis et Uber locaux.

Incredible place, hotel, views, quietness, quality in everything. Superb Breakfast like in the old good days made with fresh food, sometimes local ingredients. Dinners are amazing and you don’t need to drive out. You have a sommelier 24/7. You have free wine tasting with a view during your stay. Their variety of great wines is surprising. Infinite swimming pool with natural but not warm water, and you can safely swim in the Douro River. You have amazing view of the vines, river from everywhere. The constant silence and nature sounds is another plus. Plenty of mountain bikes and electric bikes to ride around. The staff is very polite and kind and elevates the quality of the place to another level.

It’s not a problem but the shower cabins are outdated and don’t even belong to the architecture of the place.

Plus qu’un Hôtel! Un établissement complètement intégré dans son environnement, dans tous les sens du terme. Un endroit où l’on prends Le temps et on vous laisse le temps de vivre, avec les services mis à disposition, dans un esprit « maison de famille ». Tout est fait dans la simplicité et la sincérité, ce qui en fait toute son élégance! Les menus propose au restaurant mettent à l’honneur des produits locaux et même des fruits et légumes cultivé sur place ( confitures maison au petit déjeuner par exemple) Bref, plus qu’un séjour, Une expérience!

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful vineyard hotel by the river. The setting is peaceful, surrounded by grapevines, and everything is so well cared for. The design is stylish yet cosy, making it easy to feel at home right away. Everyone on the team was friendly and welcoming, but two people truly deserve a special mention. Yarelis greeted us each morning with her contagious smile, kindness, and genuine care – the perfect start to the day! Daniël was always helpful and making sure everything went smoothly during dinner. Their thoughtfulness made our stay even more memorable. The food was excellent – fresh, creative, and clearly made with love. It’s the kind of place where you feel both relaxed and well looked after. If you get the chance to visit, don’t think twice!

Our stay at Casa do Rio was truly perfect, beginning with the exceptional service provided by Gonçalo and his team. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel special on our honeymoon. The location is breathtaking, and no photos can truly capture its beauty. The food at the restaurant was the best we’ve experienced in Portugal so far, and the wines offered a wonderful introduction to this remarkable wine region. We will definitely return at some point in our lives, as this place has carved out a special place in our hearts.

The property is remote completely integrated in the landscape, with a breathtaking view over the river. The fact that there are only 10 rooms and that everything was made to respect the surroundings is amazing. The feeling is one of a luxury cabin. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is on the (very) small size, as is the shower. The food is good quality, set dinner as well as snacks. The service is very faultless.
