Cayo Exclusive Resort & Spa ia a beautiful Hotel. Although we arrived after 1am Alex at reception made us feel welcome and showed us to our room where there was fruit, baklava water and a bottle of wine. We had an Executive room with private pool which was a bit chilly but had beautiful views across to Spinalonga Island. A lovely private place to relax and unwind. We were in room 208 and had sun on our terrace until around noon. The staff deserve special mention who without exception went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. The level of service was consistently outstanding. The food was very good. Breakfasts were generous, with plenty of variety, We were on a bed & breakfast basis but had a couple of meals in the hotel for lunch and dinner. We also ate in a couple of restaurants in nearby Plaka where there is plenty of choice of lovely bars and restaurants. This is a short walk down the hill but a shuttle is available if required where you can also find the private beach and beach bar. We could not fault this hotel and can hopefully return at some point in the future!!
Location in is amazing set in the hills so the views are incredible, we booked a room with pool, but point to note £60euros per day to heat it, which was a bit disappointing, however the room was large and very comfortable, the bedroom is separated by a partition so there is a lot of lights at night from security lights. The staff are wonderful nothing to much trouble, we stayed half board this is buffet style but top quality food, no completes at all. There is a free shuttle service to a private section of the beach which is pebble but it us decked and really comfy bed and full bar service.
Amazing service! Fantastic hotel and property, beautiful island with wonderful people! Highly recommended!
Well, what can I say about this beautiful hotel. It's my 2nd time to visit this year, first time with my husband and kids and second time with my mum and we were welcomed back like family. The views from this beautiful hotel are only matched by the warmth of the staff. Don't be fooled by the calm, laid-back atmosphere. This hotel runs like clockwork. Breakfast is a highlight with beautiful food and warm staff, a special thank you to Margarita for her kindness to myself and my mum each morning. Thank you too to all the staff, but special mentions for Saimira in housekeeping, Dana in reception and our darling Mythos, who is more than just a wonderful employee, she's a wonderful person. We will all definitely return at least once next year, but hopefully twice!!!
Cayo was just perfect. The staff so friendly and welcoming and not intrusive. Our room was amazing and watching sunrise was incredible. I had the BEST head, neck, shoulder and back massage with Eleni, she has magical fingers!!! Thank you ☺️
This is a stunning destination with incredible views. The overall design of the hotel is beautifully done – classy, modern furnishings and attention to detail throughout, from bedrooms to poolside bars, restaurants, gym and yoga suite. The yoga studio’s outdoor deck is especially impressive. Staff & Service The staff were superb – genuinely warm, friendly and helpful almost without exception. Special mention to the bartender at Avra, who made excellent cocktails and clearly knew her craft. Food & Drink Cocktails and local wine were excellent, but a word of caution: “Happy Hour” timings are unclear, and at €14 a cocktail it’s worth double-checking. Breakfast was largely brilliant – fresh fruit, yoghurt, and good pastries. Omelettes were fine, but the Eggs Benedict were disappointing. The hot buffet didn’t tempt us, so can’t comment there. The queue for the fresh orange juice machine was a daily frustration – a second machine would really help. We had booked half board and wished we hadn’t, flexibility would have been better. The buffet was plentiful, with lots of fresh salads and desserts, but hot dishes were sometimes lukewarm and menu planning felt inconsistent. That said, we still enjoyed most meals. Kelari, the à la carte restaurant, was by far the best dining experience – superb food, though the €20 half-board allowance doesn’t go far. The evening buffet was €45 per person, per night if we hadn’t booked half board. Rooms Our room was immaculate. Housekeeping was very friendly, if occasionally over-zealous – “Do Not Disturb” signs only bought temporary peace. Towels were changed daily, sometimes twice, which felt excessive compared to most eco policies. Dressing gowns were a little rough for a hotel of this level. The bathroom was excellent with a great shower and double sink, though a wardrobe light would be useful (and yes, the toilet echoes!) Coffee, tea and water bottles were generously refreshed, with plenty of Nespresso pods on request. Wi-Fi was okay, but not amazing. Setting up a Fire Stick on the TV was a struggle and staff couldn’t help; limited built-in streaming. We were upgraded to a Superior room with a private pool, which was a real highlight. The downside was being directly above the main hotel air-con units, meaning constant low level background noise on the balcony (but not in the room itself)– rooms 106-109 (and those directly above) are best avoided. Also, the bright fire exit sign in the room could disturb light sleepers. The beach bar and included sunbeds are a fantastic touch. The hotel felt peaceful and relaxing despite being full. The village is only a short stroll away – a handful of decent restaurants, but limited variety. Buses are cheap (€2–2.15 to Elounda/Agios Nikolaos) and taxis reasonable (€10–25). Car hire at the hotel is pricey (€110+ per day, albeit with free EV charging), but we arranged one locally for €35/day delivered to the hotel. Overall, this is a very good hotel with fabulous staff, beautiful design and great facilities. A few small frustrations but nothing that outweighed the positives. We’d happily recommend – though next time we’d skip half board and upgrade to a quieter room. We had a late flight home and even through we couldn’t get a late checkout they provided a room to refresh and change - which needed booking before departure.
This was our second visit and we were glad we made the decision to return. We stayed in an executive room which was spotlessly clean. The room was very comfortable, with plenty of space. Apart from sleeping, we spent most of the time outside on our balcony/patio area and making use of the brilliant infinity pool. The views from the rooms and from the hotel in general are incredible, and if you are looking to swtich off, and relax, this is the place to be. We had breakfast included. The choice at the buffet is incredible and you can also order eggs from a menu, these are cooked by the kitchen and brought to your table. We also had lunch in the Sage and Thyme restaurant 4 or 5 times, which is in a fantastic position by the pool. The quality of the food is excellent at Sage and Thyme, but the restaurants in Plaka are a good alternative if you're looking to get out of the hotel for an hour. A special mention for Margarita, who looked after us at breakfast and lunchtime. Her warm welcome and attention to detail helped make our holiday a special experience. In general the staff do a fantastic job. We ate out in the evening in Plaka and Elounda. The taxi to Elound is 11 Euros. We often returned to the hotel to enjoy the Veranda bar. It was quite quiet on some nights, but the music choice was good, and the seating area consists of big comfy sofas and chairs, and with Spinalonga a short distance away, it felt very exclsuive. We had a few issues during our stay, which were quickly and professionally handled to our satisfaction, and the guest relations and reception team did all they could to put things right as quickly as possible. We will be back for sure.
We had two wonderful weeks in this amazing place . If you are seeking tranquility, peace , luxury , excellent service , very good food. fabulous views , wonderful staff across the board , private pool rooms then Cayo is the place to be . We cannot praise this wonderful hotel enough ! Having stayed in several hotels in the area with private pool rooms and 5 stars we can say the staff at Cayo resort made our holiday extra special . They went above and beyond . Thank you all so much . We plan to return next September!
Modern , beautiful hotel in the hills of Plaka. Hotel and rooms , spotlessly clean. Lovely rooms , I think all with a pool . Beautiful bedding , changed regularly and towels changed twice a day . I really enjoyed the buffet food. A different menu every night . The only fault I can find is that the food could have been hotter. But I have found this in many European restaurants. All the staff were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them . The village of Plaka is a delight . Small with lovely restaurants, bars and shops . It’s within walking distance, although the hotel will shuttle you up and down with no problem. Would love to go back again.
What can I say! Cayo Resort blew us away! From our stunning suite with infinity pool with Spinalonga views to the gorgeous minimalist decor in muted tones throughout! All just beautiful! And of course the staff and service could not be faulted! A wonderful 4 night mini break in Crete! Would highly recommend Cayo resort!
Beautiful place to stay, gorgeous views and so peaceful but still close enough to walk/shuttle to the beach and local restaurants. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, giving great recommendations of places to go when we hired a car for the day. The spa was amazing too, very relaxing massage.
Overall, the hotel is beautiful and the views are spectacular. The location is great for a peaceful break. But there are serval areas for improvement. Good points: Generous room sizes. Excellent sunrise views from most room terraces. Main pool and grounds are well presented. Hotel is located within walking distance of local shops and tavernas providing good quality food with friendly service. Room service was prompt and room service staff very helpful. Margarita and Jessica were particularly lovely. Areas for improvement: The room maintenance is poor quality, repairs are very poorly done and easily visible. The shower in our room had large areas of black mould. The private pool ladder was rusty and stained. The second main pool had a damaged sunbed, the top had snapped off in the wind and injured me. We reported it and nothing was done for days, leaving other guests at risk. No one checked if I was okay. There were days when no pool towels were available. Breakfast menu ‘cooked to order’ items were not good - under poached ‘snotty’ eggs, croque monsieur was untoasted bread and served cold. Most days coffee was served in chipped / damaged coffee pots. Some bar staff struggled to make standard cocktails. Reception staff were not receptive to feedback and in some cases argumentative. The negatives detract from the luxury feel. We visited this resort last year and everything was very good. There has been a noticeable decline in several areas. Hopefully the hotel will give some attention to the details and restore standards to their previous high levels.
Great
One of the best massage I ever experienced. Never felt more relaxed Big thanks to Sonela and her professionalism. I recommend gladly
We are currently enjoying a 10-day stay at this wonderful 5-star hotel, and today we treated ourselves to a spa session that exceeded expectations. Both my husband and I booked the Sun-kissed Rebel Exfoliation, which was followed by a soothing 15-minute massage. The treatments were not only deeply relaxing but also left us feeling completely refreshed and renewed. A lovely detail that stood out to us was the delicious tea served afterward – such a thoughtful touch that perfectly rounded off the experience. It made us feel cared for in every detail. The spa team was professional, warm, and attentive throughout, creating an atmosphere where it was easy to unwind. This experience has been a highlight of our stay so far, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting the hotel.
My fiancé and I spent 8 nights with our 6 month old daughter at Cayo, and were joined by grandparents. Rooms: Our room was 412. Fantastic comfortable room with a pool and terrace - all of the amenities were great and spotlessly cleaned every day. Pool was very cold but refreshing - only slight downside of this room was that the sun was completely gone by about 2pm whereas a lot of other rooms had sun all day, there was also no bathtub in the room but otherwise excellent. Staff: Lovely staff, all very friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who cleaned our room every day, she brought a bottle tree for our daughter without us even having to ask. Amenities: 3 lovely pools to choose from, all had plenty of seating and beds. The hotel always felt empty and relaxed even though there were lots of people at breakfast. The spa is fantastic - I had one of the best deep tissue massages I’ve had in a long time and they ensure nobody else is in the spa when you use it which is really nice. We felt as though the hotel could have done more for entertainment on an evening - just some simple music, there were traditional Greek dancers one night on the specific Greek night, but just having a pianist in the bar, or something on each night would’ve been nice. The amphitheater is still advertised on the website which we were disappointed to find out doesn’t actually get any use any more, nor are there any other forms of entertainment in the hotel I.e pool table, table tennis, games etc, something like this would’ve been a nice touch for families. Food: Breakfast is excellent, enough choice of everything and all good quality and fresh. We ate in Sage & Thyme, the hotel buffet, and the specific Greek night buffet, otherwise we ate out every night. Sage & thyme food was nice, as was the hotel buffet, all very tasty however the food was very cold and lacklustre on the Greek night. The hotel did everything they could to make amends for this though, they really cared about our experience which was nice to see. With so many wonderful local restaurants though, I would choose to eat out every night. Location/Beach: Lovely spot, perfect ocean, little taxi down to the beachfront for us from the hotel was very quick and the Plaka village is lovely to walk around. The view from the hotel & room is wonderful and you see sunrise over the ocean every morning. Overall we had an excellent break, we would like to see a few little improvements with the hotel food and entertainment, but otherwise it’s an excellent resort, we would definitely return.
Cayo was absolutely gorgeous. 1 hours drive from Heraklion to a very special paradise. The spa was serene. Room Devine beds perfect. Our private pool added luxury. Restaurants delicious. The village at the end of our road was picture book perfect. Beach safe beautiful clear water. Restaurants at village can’t recommend enough we ate lunch here and had octopus everyday. If you didn’t want to walk there is a Cayo van to pick up and drop off. Staff very courteous and attentive. Would go back here in a heart beat. Christian was very helpful.
This hotel is an amazing place, I can’t be more positive about it if I tried. The rooms the food the restaurants the service the facilities the hotel grounds. It’s beautiful peaceful, tranquil, picturesque. An absolute gem of a place we have been twice now and this time was just as good as the last if not better. Will definitely be coming back here again and again cannot fault it, thank you Cayo and all those who put their heart and soul into making it run as good as it does!
We had booked this hotel in Plaka, as we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and wanted to return to Crete (where we got married). We had previously stayed at the wonderful Blue Palace, but it was being refurbished and so chose this lovely hotel as we wanted to stay close to the charming village of Plaka. Our room was beautiful and overlooked Spinalonga, but was partly blocked by the rooms in front - especially when in the private pool. This coupled with a very large wedding taking over the hotel for the first two days of our short stay, left us feeling a little underwhelmed and felt we should have been advised of this big party before we arrived. However, I always feel that you must judge a business and leadership when things are not running smoothly rather than when they are going well. The response to our feedback was nothing short of overwhelming and we must thank the manager and all his support staff for making the whole trip a special one and one that we will always remember. Thank you! We ate in Kelari on our anniversary and the meal was exceptional (the pianist reminded me a little of the old Morecambe and Wise joke about playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order but it was fine) - with them providing a gorgeous heart shaped cake for us at the end of the meal. So thoughtful. We then returned to our room and found an amazing sculpture on our bed from towels and local flowers - it was a work of art. The free shuttle to the beach was fantastic, with the beds on the beach and little cafe bar being excellent. The pools are great (beautifully lit at night) and the gym was good. We loved to explore Plaka and would recommend Palaria, The Carob Tree and Giorgio’s
Stunning property and very kind staff! Went in early May for a babymoon and couldn’t have asked for a better hotel. Will be back and bring the little one next year.
I love this spa! Constantina was really welcoming! Nice advices and great laughs! I highly recommend this place for a relaxing moment during your stay
We were a couple with a 9year old girl. What an amazing hotel, amazing service, perfect location with great food in the hotel and perfect local restaurants outside. The beach is beautiful (we took a private Greek boat tour arranged by the hotel) that was amazing (we swam in the deep water and our daughter even got to catch some fish! Thank you George from Merakiscruises.gr!!) the rooms are perfect with a private pool and the hotel has 3 more pools that also feels very private with great bars) And don't forget the Spa! We had massages and facials (thank you Kostas and Eleni) and thy even has 20 kids massages that our daughter enjoyed very much.
Amazing!!! great location' very friendly staff and a heavenly view!!
We stayed at the hotel for a marriage proposal I made to my wife. The location was amazing, the hotel itself very beautiful, and the staff extremely accommodating. The only points I would mention as negatives are: in the welcome offer, while there was wine in the room, there was no wine opener, which I considered an oversight. Also, during check-out, the guest relations lady asked if we wanted lunch boxes with breakfast since we were leaving early in the morning, which I thought was a very nice gesture. However, when we checked out, the lunch boxes were not ready, and the staff seemed unaware, which I saw as a communication issue. Lastly, the staff member who handled our check-out didn’t ask how our stay was, which I also consider a shortcoming. Overall, it was a very beautiful experience and the staff were generally very helpful. The points I mentioned are minor details, but I believe they are important for reaching excellence. I would like to sincerely thank the staff who helped me organize such an important moment in my life, and especially Maria for her outstanding service during the private dinner.
I had a wonderful stay at the resort with my husband and a very relaxing visit to the Aegeo Spa on the resort. My therapist Eleni was terrific. She gave me a terrific deep tissue massage and her use of reflexology and stretching throughout was top notch. Thank you!
My mum and I stayed at Cayo Resort for 7 nights. I'd already stayed in Plaka a few years ago so knew it was a lovely location. We weren't disappointed in our stay at Cayo. We had a very friendly welcome and first impressions of the hotel very good. All the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Myrto was very helpful, as were all her colleagues, all the drivers that would pick up from the town in the evening (George was great and all his colleagues), staff in the breakfast buffet, housekeeping and the man who ran the bar at the pool by the gym. Hotel room was lovely (Superior Room – Private Pool – Sea View). Perfect size for the 2 of us and the outside space with the pool was heavenly with a wonderful view of the sea and Spinalonga. Absolutely immaculate decor and a lovely relaxed colour palate. Beds were comfortable. All the grounds of the hotel are immaculate and beautifully landscaped. It was never difficult to get a sun lounger around one of the pools which definitely made it easy to relax. Breakfast was superb. Lovely choice with some local produce and great service too. The freshly squeezed orange juice was very tasty every morning. The hotel arranged for us to take a speedboat over to Spinalonga which worked perfectly. We didn't do any other trips out as the hotel was so relaxing. Overall, a really great luxury hotel which we would recommend to others and hopefully we will return to one day.
I went for a Body scrub - excellent ! Very Good welcome, clean and charmant place to relax. A lot of body and face care. I recommand !
Because of proximity to the beach, the sea, its many pools and the mountains, Cayo resort is a wonderful place to have a relaxing vacation whilst not sitting in your hotel room. Whether swimming, spa-ing (shoutout Kostas), biking, hiking, or exploring you will have something to do, and if you don’t feel up for it, the pool that comes with each hotel room makes the experience accommodating and comfortable.
I booked this hotel as a surprise getaway for my husband—I paid for everything, from start to finish. So I was shocked and frankly upset by how completely I was erased from every stage of the experience. At check-in, the form originally had my name on it but had been covered up with Tippex so that it only addressed my husband. (I know this because I scratched it off the paper myself.) When we entered our room, there was a lovely welcome display of fruit and fizz—but again, with a card addressed only to him. When we checked out, I paid the final bill. Once more, the receipt was issued solely in his name. And finally, I received a feedback email from the hotel (to my email address) but it was still addressed only to him. It’s 2025. How is this still happening? I’m a woman who paid for this trip entirely on my own, and yet I was made invisible in every interaction. It’s more than just a small oversight—it’s a reflection of deeply outdated assumptions that have no place in a supposedly modern, high-end establishment.
Wonderfull resort. Reception and concierge staff was super helpful for us. Restaurant staff was also very attentive. Delicious breakfast and dinner. A la carte restaurant menu was world class. At the beach not always available sun beds. The manager at the Stone Beach bar was involved and proactive but some employees insufficiently trained. Even with this minor challenges the overall experience was nothing short of extraordinary. A venue build and serviced with the guests in mind. Thank you!
Superb service and good food. This hotel stands out from many others in Crete for its location, close to a very pretty village with genuinely excellent tavernas. The island of Spinalonga also adds a lot of charm to the area.
Had a lovely week stay at Cayo, with beautiful views lovely staff all around. Best experience was the spa , their manager Jean really helped us out with some great advice on treatments to suit our needs. Eleni made it happen offering a great experience definitely , I would definitely try out the peaceful atmosphere of the spa.
Many times to Crete but the first time to Cayo and it definitely won’t be the last!! From the moment we checked in to check out everything was Excellent. The food was delicious and fresh and the entertainment was fun. We visited the Spa on several occasions where we had the luxury of the Spa facilities private to ourselves, a great way to come in out of the warm winds. Jean was extremely welcoming and professional with a great suggestion of the many treatments on offer. Chris and Eleni were excellent therapists finding exactly what we needed try the Cretan warm oil massage amazing. Thank you Cayo for the honeymoon holiday we needed. We will return for our anniversary.
Everything was just right from start to finish
This really is a wonderful hotel. Stunning panoramic views of the sea and Spinalonga Island. Rooms very well appointed. Food simply wonderful. But above all the thing that really makes this hotel stand out is the efficiency and kindness of all of the staff. It all made for the perfect holiday. Thanks to all.
Absolutely sensational! We stayed in a family deluxe room with private pool and ocean views! Stunning! Breakfast was delicious, restaurant selection and spa service was impressive. Would stay here again without a doubt. Could not fault one thing! LOVED IT! Highly recommended! Worth every cent!!!
Excellent!
Exceptional stay. Beautiful design, top-notch service, stunning views! Be sure to get a massage...a truely relaxing experience performed in every professional way! Highly recommended. Ask for Maria!!
A great hotel close to the village of Plaka, with excellent accommodation, cosy environment and polite staff. I was mostly impressed by the spa facilities. Ask for a massage by Maria Lola. She surely knows her job and you won’t regret it!
Absolutely astounding hotel providing everything you need for a perfect week away to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The moment we arrived it was just perfect in the way we were welcomed and were very lucky as we were upgraded which we are very grateful for. Thank you Cayo. The hotel is so beautifully designed in the way it's been built and landscaped. The rooms are spacious and so clean, beds so comfortable and the terrace with private pool is just divine which makes you want to stay there the whole day. The service from all the staff was amazing and so friendly. Would def recommend this hotel. Its obvioulsy very new as every inch of the complex is perfectly clean.
Just leaving Cayo Exclusive which is a stunning modern hotel situated just above the charming village of Plaka. Anyone looking for a relaxing chilled out holiday in gorgeous. luxurious surroundings this hotel is perfect . The staff go above and beyond to ensure your trip is seamless . A special shout out Eleftheria on reception and all the restaurant staff. This is very special place .
Beautiful place, lovely rooms, staff lovely but the only reason I’ve marked it down was because of the food, buffet was very poor for a place of this calibre
My Granddaughter and I enjoyed our private pool and the entire resort was immaculate
This was my 2nd time staying at Cayo Exclusive received a lovely welcome back by all the staff. The hotel is just as good as the last time we visited the hotel is is a fantastic location and amazing views rooms are very nice and comfortable staff are very friendly and helpful nothing is too much trouble ! We have enjoyed our 2nd stay and are going back for a 3rd visit in September counting down the days !
The resort is a beautiful oasis of calm. The staff are charming and helpful and the whole place is so beautifully designed. It is a short walk (5-10 minutes) into the tiny town of Plaka, but it is a town packed with excellent restaurants.
This place is magical. From the moment you arrive you instantly feel relaxed. The welcome was incredible. The rooms were spotless and stunning, the resort was beautiful and so well loved. This hotel is my favourite so far and will always make me smile when I think about our family holiday here. Highly recommended 5🌟 as it should be
Verry nice. Stuff it’s very friendly. Place is also very good. We had a amaizing experience with my friend. Highly recommend. We will visit You next Year also we will recommend to other friends. I think so the best experience in Crete! Thank You
Did not like the only buffet dining option...
Mega
Stayed at the CAYO last week you will not be disappointed, the views are amazing the hotel is built into hill side rooms are comfortable and offer all amenities you would expect for a 5 star. I stayed in a superior pool view room As I wanted the pool which is the with of the balcony which has a wonderful view . I enjoyed so much ihave booked again. For next year. My only disappointment is the beach is stones and pebbles and can be very tricky to get into sea . The reception area of hotel is very small and can be chaotic when busy with people checking in but staff always acknowledge you when ever you pass by . All the staff are friendly can’t wait to return
Private pool and balcony with room is great. Breakfasts are lovely. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Truly outstanding hotel. Room was immaculately clean, great view, fantastic cocktails and food, wonderful staff and great attention to the details. I would recommend without hesitation.
Truly outstanding hotel. Wonderful staff, immaculately clean rooms, great a/c, stunning cocktails and a relaxed vibe. The attention to detail was evident everywhere from the shuttle down to Plaka, housekeeping and the speed and efficiency of the room service. Nothing was too much trouble and every single member of staff was friendly, polite and efficient. Highly recommended!
Room is clean, plenty of space, amazing view over the sea and Spinalonga. Private pool is worth a 5 star review on its own but the rest of the hotel adds even more, definitely worth it.
Just back from an amazing week at Cayo Resort… We booked an Executive Room with pool but got a very welcome upgrade to an Executive Suite, so had a bigger balcony, room and a lounge area which was brilliant! The room was beautiful and allowed us to enjoy mornings watching the sun rise, lazy afternoons and early evening drinks, we even had room service dinner one night on the balcony, the Gorgonzola, pear pizza and Greek salad where amazing! The rooms are cleaned daily, beds made and changed every other day along with an evening service of bottled water, towels and sweet treats given a true 5* service! Everything was just perfect from the service to the staff being so helpful, warm and friendly, always with a smile! All the staff were excellent but Margarita was brilliant on breakfast and lunch service. The food which is outstanding for an hotel was so tasty we where B&B so didn’t sample the buffet dinner but had breakfast, lunch at the restaurant and by the pool and tried the A La Carte Restaurant which was amazing! The Sea Bream starter and Lamb main exceptional! We ventured out and went to Elounda, Spinalonga Island (via boat trip) and Agios Nickolas but have to say the food and service at the hotel and down in the little village of Plaka (5 minute walk) or quick hotel shuttle bus trip was the best, we are booking again and will stay local and enjoy the hotel and Plaka as they are outstanding.
CAYO is amazing. We spent the first few days of our honeymoon here and I am happy we did. The staff was upbeat, on top of everything, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was everything we wanted it to be. On first night we received the most wonderful cake and bottle of wine as a wedding present. The cake was so perfect that it didn't look real. Plaka, the surrounding town arean, is so quiet and relaxing; no hustle and bustle traffice and noise. If you are looking to relax in a peaceful setting with excellent views then this is the place to be. Eloundas is a short drive with plenty of dining and shopping if you feel like getting out. One negative for some is the beach. If you want a sandy beach, this isn't it. CAYO's beach restaurant (which is a short shuttle ride away because the hotel is not on the water) is called Stone Beach for a reason. While the stones may not be everyone's ideal material, it does make for a very relaxing audio experience when the waves hit the beach. When I am in Crete again I would go out of my way to stay at CAYO, if only for a night. I wish we had spent our entire honeymoon at this resort.
We had an amazing time here, I think we just about had the best room in the hotel, room 807 which was at the top of the hotel made easily accessible by the funicular. It was a superb room, lovely views and the outside space was great getting the sun all day, I think others do not, so if I was staying here again I would request this room. If you are after a hustle and bustle hotel this is not the one for you but we loved walking into Plaka and eating at one of the restaurants, it is very low key which was fine for us. We enjoyed eating and then going for a drink at Bar Epico, Elias here was great and welcomed you every night. Elounda is only a cab ride away at 10 euros if you wanted more and then 25 euros ride to Agios Niklaos. One point to add is that the hotel is not the rip off type and we were reasonably priced for drinks and snacks. We ate at the Kelari gourmet restaurant in the hotel once which was fine but really preferred the local restaurants and the fresh fish was second to none. Just read a review on here giving the hotel a one star rating and I suppose everyone is impressed by different things but I cannot say this was my impression of the resort. We have stayed at the Nana Princess in Hersonissos twice now (regarded as one of the best in Crete) and I can honestly say I preferred this hotel for their room and view. Breakfast not as good as the Princess but you are paying a lot more there. All in all we would love to go back in the future.
Avoid at all cost, the staff the worst that you would come across from the manger to the porter, unclean rooms and bathrooms and very poor room maintenance and through out our stay. Set down is promised but staff would not turn up. There were bugs everywhere bees at breakfast, fruit flies and Centipedes throughout the room. You will be charged for things and asked to pay without clarity and transparency…. The hotel is 4 1/2 hours away from the beautiful beaches of Chania and other major attractions in Crete. It was a very poor choice … if I can give it minus marks I would…
It has been a while since my wife and I opted for a chill out relaxing holiday, and we couldn't have picked a better place. It was almost Zen like. The pools are stunning with amazing views out to sea and toward the island of Spinalonga, and there was never anyone getting up at 5 am to grab a sunlounger. It was full but you would never know it and you could sit anywhere. It looked empty. Virtually all the rooms have their own private pool. The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive. My wife had a nasty mosquito bite, and one of the pool bar staff Khallia went out of her way to get some cream and administered it. She made a point of asking if my wife was OK every day. The breakfast has a huge array of different foods to cover every taste. The only bugbear was that the only toast machine seemed to habitually break down. Our room was huge. As it is a tiled floor. I suggest that they should be mopped every day. Other than that, the rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day. All the female bar staff around the 2 top pools and in the breakfast area were very attentive and helpful. The small town of Plaka is a 10 minute walk away, and I would highly recommend the Carob Tree restaurant.
Amazing hotel, stunning views. we had a room with its own pool which was amazing. The sun rise over the pool was beautiful and the view of spinalonga was spectacular. The hotel has a good fitness centre and the shuttle bus to Plaka beach was helpful.
What can I say, the CAYO is magnificent , if you are looking for relaxation then this is the place to be, the rooms are amazing and have everything you need, every room has its own pool with outside sun loungers, outside shower and a table and chairs, the wardrobe area is separate from the room and caters for the traveller with the most luggage, it was fabulous ! The shower cubicle was great, very powerful water and 2 wash basins again in a separate area . All the staff from reception to concierge to the housekeepers to the ladies at Breakfast were so lovely, greeted us daily, gave us excellent info on the area , special mention to Yannis the concierge and Margarita at the Ambrosia. We were on a half board basis but as we hired a car we went out most nights but did stay for the Sunday Cretan Night Buffet which was a lot of fun with local dancers and singers, who got everyone up to dance. Food quality excellent, fresh and well displayed. The resort has 3 large pools, it was never a problem to get a sunbed anytime of the day I think this is because each suite has its own pool. Total bliss, quiet music in the background and very good quality loungers, every detail has been thought about, the whole resort is so clean. You do need to be fit as the rooms are built into the hills so if the funicular is not working then it’s a very steep walk depending on which level you are based on, they do however have golf buggies to drive you to and from. We never used the hotels beach as it was very small and the sunbeds were very close together as well as it being open to the general public for a fee. Plaka itself is lovely but the restaurants here are much more expensive than in the lively resort of Elounda which we tended to go into every evening, which has so much choice and a great atmosphere , 10 mins max by car. We went over to Spinalonga from Plaka a 6-7 minute boat trip, what an emotional trip, with its sad history , a must visit if you are staying at CAYO. We would return in a heartbeat, we felt like family and were treated so well, the staff really can’t do enough for you, from parking your car, to cleaning the room twice a day with fresh towels, replenishing water bottles twice a day, the whole experience was wonderful. We have stayed in many hotels worldwide and we both agreed that has to be one of the best for the rooms, view and general hospitality. We came back bronzed from the Cretan sun, relaxed and rejuvenated. Top marks to Cayo your resort and team are wonderful ! Thank you
Beautiful resort, extraordinary staff, delicious breakfast, thoughtfully designed rooms for families, nice gym and pools, convenient and easily walkable to the beach and town. Truly an extraordinary stay in every way. Kelari Restaurant is delicious and unique, and we had two amazing dinners there with exceptional service and lovely Cretan wine. One of the best resorts in which we have had the pleasure of staying. We'll be back!
Quiet area but amazing pool suites and very modern and clean
Beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the sea and Spinalonga Island. Every room has a private plunge pool. Rooms are well arranged and spacious.
Tolles Hotel. Super Service. Leider das Buffet-Restaurant nicht auf dem gleichen hohen Niveau wie der Rest.
Most amazing customer service I have experienced. I travel a lot and have visited quite a few places but this one has really topped all of them.
Beautiful property and location
Overall very very pleasant stay. You will be enjoying a very nice hotel and incredible service and kindness. The beach is crystal clear and very calm waters despite the wind Positives: Service, staff, cleanness (top top), room (definitely get the pool room) the facilities and the views. The food was very good but the desserts (especially choclate desserts) were the worst I ate. For dessert I could only have fruits. The beach bar was clean, they provide towels as much as you want but the beach bar also has its negatives please look at the below section for my negative comment. Negatives: The wind is sometimes unbearable. It is so strong that you cannot stay outside (we visited mid July). The cayo stone beach bar food is absolute abysmall. The service the personnel are really nice they are doing a very great job. But the menu is a disaster. I could not find one thing to order and the prices are 3-4 times the already overpriced neighboring places. For those prices you would expect to have some good food, very surprising. They should check the menu of the neighboring restaurants. The hotel is at the top so you need a shuttle service plus you take an finicular to your room. It is just too much effort to go down to the beach. The prices in the area is no different than Mykonos prices. Also the restaurants at the shore have similar prices. So be ready to spend some serious money here.

Splendid hotel! Highly recommend! The staff is friendly and super helpful. The place is gorgeous and well kept. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Great stay!
Lovely relaxing hotel, great service, recommended for a peaceful time in lovely surroundings
Amazing hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
I have travelled a lot and all over the world and this is probably the best hotel I have stayed in….Exclusive it certainly was….fantastic location, excellent quality and superb service
Séjour excellent, avec une très très belle vue. Etablissement très très joli, personnel très serviable, disponible et très gentil. Chambre excellente, spacieuse et propre! Vaut vraiment un 5*! A retourner absolument! Merci à toute l’équipe!
The design and style of the property is excellent with many little things considered, but what really makes it special is the staff who will always go the extra mile with nothing too much trouble. Bravo for the training and customer engagement.
Very cozy, clean and comfortable hotel. We stayed in the premium room which was very nice located on top of the hill.
Staff were without exception helpful, polite, professional, and extremely friendly. Pool area was stunning and not overcrowded. Room had its own mini pool as well. Excellent breakfast. Main restaurant seemed quite pricey but Plaka village only a short walk where there were a myriad of eating options. Fantastic place and would thoroughly recommend.
This is a really excellent hotel. Not only the staff was amazing alt all times, the entire resort was very well built and comfortable. The owner is local and owns a construction company and you can feel that by how well the hotel is built. There is a funicular lift for the rooms which are built on a steep hill making it very easy to access the rooms. The room has got a great size and the bathroom and toilet are separate and very good. There is plenty of storage space which I feel sometimes is lacking in hotels. The view from the room is impressive and the private swimming pool is quite good size. There is plenty of free water, a welcome pack. The gym is well equipped. The breakfast is excellent and at request some vegan options were available (although not a lot in terms of hot food). There are 2 large swimming pools and the beach is a 4 minute walk. They provide a shuttle to the beach. There are electric car charging points and electric cars for rental.
All Staff were amazing and nothing was any trouble for them
Fantastisk hotel. God beliggenhed og ægte luksus service niveau. Fra transport til og fra strandbaren, søde og smilende medarbejdere, værelse til et bad inden sen afrejse mv.
Nice staff pleasent overall
We got upgraded room , very nice.
Great hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Very good food and service in the restaurants. Good value for money. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend a stay here.
Cayo was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. From the beautiful property, to the accommodating staff, we have no complaints and only praise for this hotel!
Room was perfect, private pool was fun, dinner buffet was delicious and staff was so nice. One of the best resorts I’ve ever stayed at and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone going to Plaka. Truly five stars!
Cayo is perfection! The location was great, the facilities amazing. We booked adjoining rooms and had a private pool with sun loungers plus two good sized balcony areas with outdoor tables/chairs. We ordered room service for dinner one night and enjoyed a quiet delicious dinner overlooking the village of Plaka Beach and Spinalonga Island. Highly recommend Cayo and I’ll return!
Accommodation is of the highest standard and staff are friendly and had working.
Beautiful, picturesque, amazing staff and food
Friendliness, Terrific villas
Great hotel, people, services, restaurant Exceptional view Quiet Luxious but not too expensive One of our best hotel
Excellent hôtel très beau cadre duplex très spacieux très bien équipé Personnel très attentionné Extrêmement propre Je recommande
The hotel and its staff and everything during our stay was excellent. A very memorable stay.
Amazing hotel, couldn’t have asked for anything more. Every room has a sea view and private pool which was so relaxing, we also loved to spend time at the beach area which was free to use for hotel guests. Free parking was also a nice touch as well as the shuttle to run us down to the beach and back (or it’s a 5 min walk). The staff were also amazing, nothing was too much trouble. We loved spending our evenings in Plaka, there are lots of restaurants (all really good) and several little shops, we preferred Plaka to the nearby areas of Elounda and Agios Nikolaos.
