Provider-sourced guest reviews.
I like the lobby ambiance of the hotel. The staff is very kind but not prompt in their response.
The hotel is very, very, very run down, with a dirty carpet in the room, wallpaper that pills off in the bathroom, and very poor quality bedding from pillows, which were completely unusable to the duvet, which did not even have any dawn in it anymore or had some plucks of down clustered in a ball. The 4 star hotel is a false advertising! We have travelled multiple times to Fairmounts around the world but this is a first in terms of the negative comments.
Excellent and wonderful location
The hotel has many activities to offer. We did kayaking, played tennis, used the bikes and the swimming pools. We enjoyed the view the location everything.we had dinner at the restaurant Aux Chantignoles.
The hotel does not allow to have dinner in the big dining room of Aux Chantignoles for tibia only for big groups and events. We were celebrating our 20th year anniversary and it would have been nice to have dinner there where the tables are either white table cloths and the atmosphere is more romantic and elegant
Beautiful property and amenities.
Price is high when all you want is a good rest. To make it worth it you really need to use many of the amenities. Restaurant Chanterelle is ok but overpriced. Better to walk at the Bistro in town.
Diese also ggf. meiden.

Very nice place.
Pools open late: 8am and 10am and close very early: 8pm and 7pm. Bars close very early too, except one inside de hotel that closes at 11pm. For a place that big and that expensive, activities should be open much longer.

Rien a signaler
The location is perfect to visit omega Parc and zone, have lots of activities, good for family, swimming pool is very nice! Dinner in bbq area is so nice!
Bed is too soft, pillow not so comfortable!
Our family of 2 adults and 2 children just stayed here for 3 nights. Overall, we had a good time, the grounds are beautiful, and the activities plentiful. The breakfast buffet was also delicious and full of variety. The staff were friendly as well. That said, for a fairmont property and the price, several aspects were below the standard we would expect. Our room was not fully stocked upon arrival (e.g., the body wash had not been refilled, the light on the makeup mirror was not working, the blankets and pillows promised for the pullout bed were missing). We also learned, upon arrival, that there was an issue with the water in the region, and so the water was not drinkable. Though this was out of the property’s control, the room was not stocked with bottled water. When we did request all these things, the hotel staff did attend to them, but we would have expected them to be ready to begin with. In addition, we appreciate that fairmont properties are classic and this property is historic. That said, aspects of the property were in a state of disrepair. For example, the carpets in the rooms were filthy and full of stains, and no longer secured to the floor, and the room bathroom had not been updated probably ever. The outdoor pool was nice to spend time in and the grounds around it nice, but it could use a paint job and cleaning (the scum lines need some serious scrubbing). On a positive note, at some point the mattresses in the rooms had likely been updated as the bed was very comfortable. While the staff were extremely friendly, we are used to somewhat more upscale service at other 4-5 star hotels/resorts (e.g., towels and umbrellas being set up around pools by staff). Overall, we had a good experience, but it was below our expectations for the price and for a fairmont property.
Our family stay at Fairmont Le Château Montebello was outstanding — a true 5‑star experience with a character all its own. Unlike other Fairmont properties that lean into polished luxury, Montebello offers something more authentic: a heritage lodge atmosphere that feels warm, lived‑in, and genuinely welcoming. From the moment we arrived, it felt like home. The rooms reflect that same charm. They’re smaller than in many modern Fairmonts, but full of character — cozy, comfortable, and perfectly aligned with the resort’s historic feel. It’s a refreshing change from the typical luxury‑hotel blueprint. The range of activities is exceptional and ideal for families. We spent our days running, cycling, paddle boarding, and canoeing, all surrounded by beautiful scenery that makes every moment feel special. The pools were another highlight — clean, inviting, and perfect for relaxing after being outdoors. Breakfast was simply incredible — the best we’ve had in a hotel in a long time. High‑quality ingredients, great variety, and staff who were consistently friendly and attentive. It set the tone for each day and became something we genuinely looked forward to. Montebello combines luxury with authenticity, comfort, and a sense of place that’s hard to find elsewhere. A fantastic family stay, and one we’d return to without hesitation.
L’emplacement
It was huge with very beautiful grounds and lots of picturesque scenery. The indoor pool was strategically laid out and you felt as though you were back in time.
There are some amenities that need to be upgraded. There was no coffee in the room.
Chambre beaucoup trop humide
Meals were amazing.
Would have liked a vegan option on the breakfast menu. The buffet is too much food for some people.
Being in nature, near the water, original rustic construction. The pools and activities available make for a great family vacation.
Very expensive.
Posizione e grandezza
Bagno piccolissimo, doccia troppo datata e scomoda con vasca.
Staff, breakfast, dinner, property, activities
Pillow too flat, not good for side sleepers.
The Château was very unique. Enjoyed the grounds and history.
We stayed in Rm #340 Bathroom small, very tired and door stuck every time. Needs a refresh.
They actual building is the star for sure!
Even when something is old it can still be clean, our room was fine but the rest if the building and grounds felt like it needed a refresh or at the very least a good cleaning.
Nature and uniqueness
Room size not adequate and bathrooms were cramped
the grounds the staff the loveliness of the resort the food
nothing (other than cost :) )
Charming, rustic property in a scenic location. Staff were very helpful & friendly - especially the girl serving at the bar. The initial, renovated room we booked was very compact so we upgraded to a larger room which was much better. Enjoyed the varied breakfast options - delicious smoothies. Many recreational options available - hot, sunny weather allowed us to spend some time at the outdoor pool. Perfect hotel location for a visit to Parc Omega!
Our cottage away from home . Chateau Montebello has been our summer and fall and winter and spring getaway for many years . Service and staff are outstanding they always go above and beyond to make our stay so magical . We always look so forward to our next . Chateau Montebello will always be our home away from home 🏡🏰❤️
The location and the view. Also the Sunday breakfast buffet was delicious and loved the variety.
Our rooms AC had a water leakage issue. Also our sink and bathtub drainage was slow and water would stand. Overall I felt the rooms provided were not providing value for the amount charged.
Beautiful location, the staff were very friendly. We booked the BBQ experience which I thought was excellent.
The bed and toilet could be updated to make them more comfortable and some kind of wardrobe/clothes hanging addition added to the room we stayed in. Also all of the lifts were switched off when we arrived, so we had to carry the luggage upstairs (we were offered assistance).
The breakfast definitely didn't offer good value for money, especially considering the lack of variety.
There could have been more cheese varieties, the quality of the fruits was poor, and the juices were really bad.
Spent a few nights here on a Canadian road trip. Lots of pros: Good breakfast choice (could do with more fruit). Comfortable room. (We did upgrade on arrival!). Beautiful peaceful location, well kept. Stunning core to hotel, fantastic design. Very wilderness lodge feel. Great bar staff, nothing is too much trouble. Also breakfast and dinner team were very helpful. Complimentary parking. Cons: Reception staff generally were ok but a couple were extremely abrupt and actually only appeared happy when attempting to upsell. Not a pleasant check in process but we have fed back to the manager, so no more to be said.
The grounds are beautiful. The indoor pool is amazing.
We booked the king river view room. You could see the river if you were standing up. The windows are small and the view is limited. We ordered nachos at the bar and they were burned chips with lukewarm globs of cheese on top. The room had a table for in room dining but only one chair would fit. No one explained where the restaurants were or which ones were open.
The Grounds and the friendly staff
We were a family if 3 couples. Stay was fully pre-paid for 3 rooms on booking.com. But at check out they had us pay extra. Only after paying did we realise we were overcharged. Got back to the front desk, who tried to dismiss us. Then after arguing back we were able to show them without doubt that we were overcharged (for several hundred dollars). They then apologized and blamed it on some "new" system booking.com was implementing which made them overcharge the stay. They eventually had to refund the amounts overcharged. Due to this fiasco our check out process took some 50 minutes. Left a bad taste in our mouthes. And they never offered anything in return other then an apology. It was our 4th year in a row that our family comes here for a staycation, we asked for a discount to be applied for a future stay in return for the mishap, but we were dismissed in a subtle way by giving us the email address of the manager and asking us to write to him. We said it should be the other way round, your manager should be reaching out to us to apologize and offer something to returning clients. But alas!!
-
The hotel is a historic hotel with beautiful grounds grand architecture. The service was great and the staff were attentive. The food we ate was delicious, especially the french onion soup. That being said the hotel is 95 years old and seems like upkeep has not been kept up. Our air conditioning only worked sporadically and overall the room and bathroom needed updating.
Beautiful hotel with a lot of activities and amenities. Cool that you could eat your own food in the lobby.
Very small, dated rooms. Expensive for the room, but you pay for the hotel amenities.
I attended the Sunday brunch on May 3rd, 2026, and unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing experience—one that management should be aware of but doesn’t appear to be. The buffet area is far too small to accommodate the number of guests. There was a long, winding line just to access basic items like scrambled eggs and beans, and the serving dishes themselves were undersized for the volume of guests. The bacon and breakfast sausages were of very poor quality (as was pretty much everything) comparable to what you might find at a low-end diner. The prime rib station was almost comical; the staff member was carving from a piece of meat no larger than a fist. The smoked salmon was difficult to find and presented on a plate far too small for a buffet of this scale. When I got to my table my food was cold. On my second visit to the buffet, I realized why—the warming trays were not functioning. They were either turned off or simply not working, as they were cool to the touch. This points to a serious lapse in oversight, whether due to absent management or a lack of attention to basic service standards. More broadly, the poor food service reflects the overall state of the property. The building appears neglected, with peeling paint, deteriorating walkways, etc. The ownership and the Fairmount group have allowed the property to decline significantly. At $85 per person, plus tax, this experience falls far below any reasonable expectation. I would strongly advise against brunch at this establishment.
Beautiful location and cottage country vibe. Unique building.
The rooms were very dated and not up to what I would expect at a Fairmont hotel. The bathroom was extremely small and the sink plug didn’t work as one example. The temperature control was turned off due to the season so no heat or cooling in the room. On our second morning the coffee machine was broken so there was no coffee available. The were some issues with the drinking water as well and we were advised to get our drinking water from water stations set out in the lobby which was a bit concerning as well had a baby with us. The furniture in the common areas was very dated, not very clean or comfortable. Also, there were pesky houseflies in the dining area, especially at breakfast. The cafe has very limited hours so if you need a cold bottled drink or some other necessity you had to drive into town. We had a nice stay however, not nearly up to the Fairmont level of excellence I’m used to.
Puis on reçoit 5 essuie-mains...
Merci!
RAS.
Historic ambiance and excellent staff
Hotel is starting to look quite shabby in many places. I can only imagine the deropockets needed to keep up.eih it all Sadly, no fire in the great fireplace focal point.
Location and activities. Food was good.
Little bit expensive
The centre of the building is fantastic as was the pool, curling rink and indoor gym.
The pool closed at 8 pm
The building is spectacular. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Honestly it felt like they were charging for absolutely every little thing, which was disappointing and a bit tacky given the price to stay there in the first place.
Décor activites nombreuses foyer central tellement chaleureux ❤️
Menu du restaurant et ses prix ! Ridicule !
Stunning
Formidable !!
We only stopped for a drink but absolutely stunning venue Quite pricey but certainly a must visit With spa . Restaurant. And many things to do Cabin style rooms also function and wedding venue Small boutique shop onsite Lots of activities if your staying
We spent two nights at the Chateau Montebello with some close friends. From the time of our arrival to the end of our stay, all the staff that we encountered were so warm and professional. The rooms and the amenities have been renovated but the hotel has kept its rustic charm. It's a great hotel for families and friends. There are tons of activities offered with new, state of the art equipment in the gym, pickleball, curling and all outdoor sports. Everything is provided and we made sure to try it all! Highly recommend the breakfast buffet. There's a huge variety and everything is top quality. We just loved our stay.
Excellent
Location , historical decor
Need renovations
Such an iconic facility and location. I appreciated not being “nickel and dimed” - parking and bikes were included. Food remains exceptional. So many things to do there!
Some of the woodwork could use some refresh
Dinner at Nymak was tasty, though the menu had limited options Live music was good.
The hotel and service
Mixed up the booking and had to get another 2 beds arranged for our room
Cozy and comfortable
The overall chateau is beautiful.
I emailed the concierge and reception a month before my stay to confirm the availability of the winter activities listed on the website, as this trip was meant to be a winter holiday for my, my husband, and my two year old daughter. We were primarily interested in sledding, skating, and the sleigh rides. My daughter is too young for the snow shoeing and curling which is also listed. The reception and concierge let me know that the sleigh rides would not begin until Dec 20, but that all other activities would be available. When we arrived there, we received a map which showed where the sledding and skating was supposed to be. We got into our winter clothes and went out to those areas, only to be told that none of it was available during our stay. They had no available activities for kids and toddlers and other facilities were also closed. There was really nothing we could do as a family other than sit around and spend money on over priced food and alcohol. We wrote them an email about our disappointing experience and let them know that we would be leaving a night early to somewhere that was more family friendly. We requested a refund on our last night to which they never responded to. We spent over $1700 on the accomodations and another $700 on our food and beverage while there. To say the experience was disappointing is an incredible understatement. We have traveled to over ten countries with our little one and never had such poor communication and customer service. It was completely their responsibility to be forthcoming about what was available. Had we known, we would have picked another destination. I do not recommend. Worst Fairmont we've ever experienced. As an alternative, we highly recommend the omega parc wolf lodge. Amazing experience.
the entrance, Christmas decorations, dinner
The location is on a lake, beautiful facilities in an old historical building. It’s the coziest place for a winter get away, kids welcome and the fireplace - perfect!
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello. The property has a bit of an older, rustic charm, but that’s exactly what makes it so special. The service was top-notch from start to finish. We visited for a weekend family getaway, and there were plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained—even on a gloomy November weekend. The curling lesson was a fantastic touch that both the kids and adults enjoyed, and our curling instructor was friendly and helpful. We also took advantage of the indoor tennis courts and swimming pool, and we never ran out of things to do. A big bonus is that the hotel is pet-friendly, and our dog loved exploring the beautiful trails and waterfront. The Christmas decorations and fireplaces in the lobby were also absolutely lovely, creating a warm, cozy, festive atmosphere that made the whole stay feel magical. A special shout-out to Jeanne at reception. She was incredibly thoughtful, remembered my name and details, and made me feel genuinely welcome. As a Diamond member, I truly appreciated the added touches. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety, and we had dinner every night at the hotel’s main restaurant, Aux Chantignoles. The food quality was consistently great, and the cozy dining atmosphere fit perfectly with the rustic charm of the property. While the rooms do have an older design, we actually enjoyed the rustic feel. The bathrooms have been renovated, everything was clean, and the housekeeping staff were very friendly—especially toward our dog, which we appreciated. Also, don’t miss Parc Omega nearby. It’s absolutely a must-do! We had a great experience and saw so many animals making it a highlight of the trip. Overall, it was a memorable and lovely stay, and we will definitely be back!
Great buffet for breakfast, dinner very good. Room, the courtains need to be changed, they fall all the time, and they are very old. they can change them keeping the same ambience.
There were somme dirty spaces, for exemple the toilette in the gym, there were some web spiders in the walls and the walls and floor were dusty. check out for the water leek in the tunel to the pool.
