The Lake Hotel Killarney

We have been coming to the hotel for years, which says it all. Country-house style, with modern comforts; open fire, a first class dinning menu and staff who could not be more friendly or helpful. The majority of rooms look out across the lake, and if you are lucky, you will get a close up view of the deer wandering past the window in the evenings. No wild parties, a slow and chilled pace - heavenly.

This hotel has everything I look for. Great food. Gorgeous Thermal Suite. Spacious room with balcony. Wonderful staff.

We absolutely loved our stay at Lake Hotel Killarney. Our room was wonderful, and the view of the lake was incredible—such a peaceful way to start and end the day. Breakfast each morning was top notch with plenty of great options. It was the perfect way to fuel up before exploring the area. The hotel also has several comfortable sitting areas throughout the property, which makes it easy to relax and enjoy the scenery. In the evenings, there’s entertainment in the bar starting around 9:30 pm, which was a really nice touch. One of the best parts of the entire experience was the thermal suites. They were absolutely fantastic and a perfect way to relax after a day of exploring. It truly elevated the stay and made the visit feel even more special. One of our favorite parts was the beautiful walk around the lake right outside the hotel. It’s a must-do while you’re there. If you’re visiting in March, be prepared for warm interiors. The hotel keeps the heat up and often has fireplaces going, so it can get quite cozy inside. We found it much more comfortable wearing lighter clothing like T-shirts and using layers for when you head outside. Overall, a fantastic stay with beautiful views, great food, and a relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Spectacular location, with panoramic views of the lake and mountains. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Accommodation is very clean and comfortable. Bar food is very good. Restaurant food is exceptional. Deserts are works of art.

We had a fantastic stay at Lake Hotel, the location is great in the heart of the natural park, with great views and the chance of enjoying the nature and multiple cultural activities. Our room was perfect, with gorgeous views to the lake and with all the facilities you can imagine. We had breakfast twice, with a great variety of of dishes. We also had dinner once at the restaurant, the food was nice and there was a wide variety of local dishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful, specially Jonathan and Bela, were really kind with us. I would 100% recommend this hotel, and I'm sure I'll go back the next time I go to Killarney.

My wife Cindy and I, both in our 60s, just returned from a wonderful four-night stay at The Lake Hotel — and we couldn’t be more pleased. The highlight of our room was undoubtedly the stunning view of the lake, made even more special by a Jacuzzi tub positioned to take in that same breathtaking scenery. Pure luxury. The room itself was comfortable and wonderfully quiet — exactly what we needed. Dining exceeded our expectations on every visit, whether at the bistro or the main hotel restaurant. Both were excellent. The staff and management throughout our stay were professional, friendly, and genuinely attentive — the kind of team that makes you feel truly looked after. We were just minutes from the Gap of Dunloe, which we thoroughly enjoyed exploring on foot. By the end of our stay, Cindy and I both felt restored and refreshed in a way we hadn’t in a long time. I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Lake Hotel in Co. Kerry — without a doubt one of the best hotels in the area. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained, offering a relaxing atmosphere throughout the stay. The service was excellent from start to finish, with friendly and attentive staff always ready to help. The food was gorgeous, with a great selection and high quality in every meal. One of the highlights of the hotel was the thermal suite, which was incredibly nice and provided the perfect place to unwind and relax. We had an amazing 3nights in the Lake Hotel. Our room was a deluxe lake view room. It was amazing to wake up to the beautiful views & watch the swans in the lake. The staff were so good with our 1.5 year old, they couldn’t do more for us. The food was lovely both in the Dinning room and in the bar. I’m celiac and they were very accommodating. The Hotel was very comfy and welcoming. We will definitely be recommending it and returning.

Another incredible night away for us celebrating our 31st anniversary. Always met by very professional and friendly staff. Our room was upgraded as it was our anniversary and this added to the wonderful experience we had once again at the hotel. Food as always was unbeatable and always keeps us coming back again and again over the years. Hopefully we will pop down again soon. Thanks for a wonderful night in your beautiful hotel.

Staff are patient, friendly and helpful. Hotel is spotless and comfortable. Ideal location and the views are amazing. Thermal suite is fabulous. Lunch, dinner and breakfast were perfect, no problem with gluten or dairy free options. Will definitely be back again.

Lovely hotel right on the lake-this hotel is truly worth it for the views alone but on top of that, they have friendly staff, clean rooms and delicious breakfast. Absolutely recommend the thermal suites as well.

We absolutely love The Lake Hotel, we had a wonderful stay, had the deluxe room with the view and balcony and it was just beautiful. The Castlelough dining experience is the best you will get anywhere. The staff are all extremely friendly and the service in all areas is exceptional. The thermal suite has to be the most spectacular spa area, with nothing but the lake and the mountains in front of you, just fabulous. It’s not the cheapest hotel you will find in Killarney but it’s worth every cent.

My son and I stayed at The Lake Hotel July 2023...we loved it. We returned July 2025 to the same excellent service, comfortable room, delicious dining, immaculate housekeeping and overall amazing visit. Upon arrival, we were welcomed as return guests. Our room was spacious and comfortable witha beautiful lake view; however, I noticed our room did not have air condition. When I discussed it with reception, management personally offered different options including changing our room. A great hotel is not based on high-thread count but rather the lack of resistance and service provided; the Lake Hotel exemplifies those great qualities. The Lyrath Estate hotel managment should take notes (separate review). Thank you The Lake Hotel and the entire team for an amazing and memorable stay. We will return!

We had a very relaxing two night stay at the Lakeside. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the room was excellent with views over the lakeside. Food was excellent in both restaurants and service was very precise but friendly. We look forward to returning again

What a wonderful Hotel!!!! from arrival to departure 10/10 we just love this hotel all the staff are amazing !!! We have a little break before Christmas & we always choose this hotel we spent 3 wonderful days here in a master Delux lake view room again just wonderful !! We had a dinner included in our package again amazing !!! We didn’t even go into Killarney town on any of the evenings we stayed in the hotel . Would highly recommend this hotel . I can't say enough good things about the hotel. If I could give it 10 stars I would. The staff, the room , the thermal suite, the food, the attention to detail is just top class. I took my friend away after a hectic year and we left on a high. Total relaxation from start to finish. Already planning our next trip back. My favourite hotel by far.

My husband and I had a lovely 2 night break. The lake views from our room were spectacular, the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

An amazing place to stay. Friendly staff who go above and beyond. Room was superb with beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains with its own castle ruins for added effect. Food was great, room warm and no noise pollution at all. The Lake Hotel is outstanding and a definite must do experience. Look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful clean and friendly hotel, staff were super efficient but yet we never felt rushed, our meals were excellent and had plenty time at table to relax. Atmosphere in hotel was a lovely vibe. We were on ground floor and no noise. The thermal suite was excellent with Beautiful views. Only downside is no pool for kids.

Sisters weekend and we always stay at the Lake hotel. You cannot beat this wonderful place for location, ambience, staff, food and whole host of welcome and relaxation. An absolute gem!

Fabulous location, great staff and amazing facilities. A short walk from the Killarney convention centre and right in the National Park, the hotel is perfectly situated for whatever takes your fancy. The room and bathroom were large - including the best shower ever! The room included coffee making failities (but no fridge) and a drinks fountain on the landing. Lots of cosy sitting areas and a bar that stayed open very late! The spa was a bargain, with great views and amenities. Breakfast was a buffet, but it also included many items from a menu at no extra charge.

As always, the rooms are luxurious and super comfortable with amazing views, the food is good quality and delicious and the personnel are warm, friendly, efficient and very customer focused.

Just back from our 4th visit to The Lake hotel this year. What an excellent hotel - fabulous location, comfort and food and such helpful, friendly and welcoming staff, who never change. All the above help to make the experience of visiting the Lake Hotel such a memorable one. We love the tradition there - a genuine family run hotel. Have already booked 2 visits for 2026! The Lake hotel could have a nice business on its amazingly scenic location alone . It goes much further , the staff are exceptionally friendly efficient and helpful , they seem to be enjoying themselves . There is a wonderful holiday atmosphere . We had a great stay there . Next time we will stay for longer .

I can only say that each time I stay at The Lake Hotel it is a totally relaxing experience. Once you walk through the door you know it is going to be good. The Lake Hotel is simply wonderful, one of those places you'll feel nostalgic about in future years. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, as well as all the public spaces & grounds. Throughout our 3 nights we were able to try out the restaurant & bistro for breakfast, lunch & dinner- we should've just had all our meals there, everything was delicious! Above all, the staff at the Lake Hotel is first class, not only friendly but took extra care to make all guests feel like VIPs. The staff takes the already beautiful place and makes it shine even brighter, bravo & thank you!

We only had one night at the hotel but it was so relaxing I felt we had been away longer. There is such a relaxed atmosphere but still everything is spot on. Nothing is too much trouble to the staff on reception and the hotel is spotless. The food was delicious. The view from the room was amazing. Beautiful grounds for a walk. Next time we will take a longer break in the Lake Hotel.

The Lake Hotel is a special place, amazing scenery outside your bedroom window, friendly staff, and food of the highest standard.

As with our previous stay a lovely break (prior to the Gap of Dunloe Marathon). The room was lovely as was the food. Staff, great, especially Pavel. The only negative which is significant as I was awaiting important emails. The computer in the library failed to connect to the internet every time during our three night stay, shambolic.

This was our second time staying this year and everything was just as good as last time, if not better. We're already planning our next visit. The staff are all so lovely and helpful. The food is absolutely stunning and the location is gorgeous. I'm looking forward to our next visit already.

On our annual trip to the Lake Hotel this year we got engaged at the castle ruins on the lake. It was so special after coming to the hotel the past 8 years. The staff, the food, the warmth, the service is beyond amazing! Will definitely be back to celebrate all the big occasions in the future as always!

We loved the hotel and the staff were great. We took beautiful hikes each day and went to Falconry Kerry. We saw a Harris Hawk, Barn Owl, Great Horned Owl, and a Great Grey Owl. Loved it all!

Fabulous stay with family . Had a lake view family room with ac, very spacious, beds super comfy, great bathroom and large tv. Only comment would be a better hair dryer. Food was super, staff great and super friendly. Amazing scenery and loved the thermal suite. Great to have so many everything chargers chargers.

We had a two night stay, and everything was perfect. I don't think I could find anything to complain about my only problem was at breakfast I ate too much as everything looked and tasted great I was ready to go back for a nap I was so full. The grounds are spectacular, and the view from our room was breathtaking. The bar had a great atmosphere with music on the Friday and Saturday night. The deer roamed around the grass area to the back as we were having a drink in the bar in the evening it was really special. We booked the four poster bedroom, the enclosed balcony was great and so private. A picture window was also perfectly placed to view the lake and mountains from the bed. It had a fireplace also that created a great ambience. We visited the thermal suite. It was great and well worth booking. The numbers are limited which makes for a great experience as altho there were 3 other couple using this space while we were, we hardly saw them. It was total bliss. The heavy showers we were experiencing while we went out to the infinity pool seemed to add to the experience it was that perfect. This was our second visit, and we will return again. It's our little slice of paradise away from our kids for some well deserved rest and relaxation. I would highly recommend a visit. I would love if a massage was also an option in the future as it would be the cherry on top. Thanks for a great stay, we will be back again !

Had the nicest stay at the Lake Hotel. Beautiful family -owned hotel with excellent food and fantastic service! The staff are incredibly helpful and so professional. They all seem genuinely happy to be there! The food we had in the restaurant was utterly sensational!! The bar food was excellent too, would happily eat in either. Rooms were spotless, beds were comfortable and hotel views were stunning. I cannot fault this hotel, I love it!

We spent a magical weekend at The Lake Hotel and couldn’t be happier with our experience. The food was outstanding. Whether it was the elegant dishes at the Castlelough Restaurant or the relaxed lakeside bistro, every meal was an excellent . Breakfast was a particular highlight—fresh, varied, and beautifully prepared. Even on a wet & miserable day the location is breathtaking on the shores of Lough Leane. The thermal spa was a nice addition since we last visited and enjoyed our slot looking out onto the lake. We highly recommend The Lake Hotel for couples looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway. It’s a Kerry gem that blends old-school charm with modern comfort in the most scenic setting imaginable.

You couldnt ask for a more gorgeous spot. It's the Grand Canyon of Ireland. The hotel is amazing, the history on the walls when you walk the corridor is the only example where the people, artifacts and stories aren't kitschy and actually makes you feel a part of the history. Rooms are warm and comfortable. Suites are gorgeous. And pricing is fair compared to every other hotel in Ireland feeling way overpriced. Lake Hotel is worth every penny. Fine dining is great, and the staff are of the level you would find in a Michelin Star establishment. Food was amazing instead of the same old boring menu that every pub and hotel serves, these guys are definately trying to do something elevated.

There are no words for how beautiful this hotel is. From driving in and seeing the Red Deer before we even arrived, to the absolutely stunning views from our hotel patio, everything about this hotel is absolutely perfect. It was the first day of our honeymoon and our bed was made up with rose petals and a box of Butler's Chocolates (yum) and a large picture of the red deer which was such a thoughtful gift we got to take home with us. The food is amazing, some of the best we had our entire trip (the cocktails are also amazing, try the Bees Knees with there on site honey!). The location is perfect for day trips over to Dingle or exploring the south west coastal areas. We had zero complaints, hands down we'll be staying here again on our anniversary trip!

We had a blissful relaxing stay. Bar food and breakfast were delicious The staff were friendly. What really makes the lake special is the tranquility.

Room was very comfortable with a gorgeous lake view but in was on the 5th floor and not easy to get down to reception from there! We waited for nearly an hour for a table in the bar for dinner on our second night. I enjoyed the hot tub and pool in the rain but the leisure centre should revert back to be free for guests.

We've been to Killarney many times and stayed at several different hotels over the years. This was our first time staying at the Lake Hotel and where we will stay every time we come back to Killarney. Best place we've ever stayed anywhere in Ireland by far. Everything was 5 star, from food to accommodations, staff and scenery. See you next year!

I submitted a review by mistake for another hotel here. So this is our actual experience at the Lake hotel. We upgraded to a lake view room, it was very nice, clean comfortable and amazing views. The beds were comfortable, our room was impeccably cleaned every day. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was great, the staff there were attentive and friendly. We ate several meals at the pub/ restaurant here, not only is it very convenient, the food was good and again the staff was great. The location of this hotel was perfect, we walked to the National Park, you can do short or long hikes or walks depending on what you like. It’s a very short drive , 5 minutes to get downtown. This hotel and this area were a great place to visit and explore this area of Ireland. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Aboustly brilliant time. Great stay.. staff are excellent, room was good, just one little issue, the room was just a little bit too warm at night , maybe turn down the heating , but other than that we really had a wonderful time. We booked another stay, the day we checked out and and we got a great deal.

We absolutely loved the Lake House. The staff was incredible, the room was gorgeous, the bar and restaurant was lovely and the breakfast was the most impressive one we had on our entire two week trip! The grounds of the hotel were gorgeous and we sat on the bar patio with a drink while the sun set over the mountains, lake and castle ruins on the grounds. We spent sometime exploring the hotel and loved all the old guests books in the library that date back to the 1950s! What a cool blast through time. We would definitely come back! It was quiet, just enough away from the road to not hear any cars and a 4 minutes drive into the bustling center of town. It was everything we wanted!

As the review title suggests, this is one of the best located hotels in Killarney. Value for money given the level of services. Would like a more extensive menu / range of dishes for the restaurant, but otherwise, would definitely return in the future.

We recently stayed in this hotel for one night. We have stayed here before and as usual the staff were friendly, the service was perfect and the views were amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel as we have never been disappointed in any of our stays.

As a couple we’ve agreed to try and make this trip to Killarney annually. A great 2 night break to rest and recuperate after a stressful few months. The location of the lake house is unbeatable. The hotel itself is exceptionally clean and beautifully maintained inside and out. A little old faishoned for our usual taste but it’s so in keeping with the location. Breakfast was good, not the best I’ve had in previous stays in Ireland but only personal (picky) choice issues no sourdough bread or overnight oats and the porridge from the kitchen tasted like it had been made with water not milk. We didn’t eat dinner in the main a la carte but did in the bistro and the food was delicious. If you enjoy walking Killarney town centre is 2.5k away and one straight road so very easy if the weather is dry. The Thermal Spa is nice but I don’t think guests given the cost of rooms should have to pay €20.00 pp for such minimal facilities, I would see it as a nice addition to the cost of the B&B. In terms of the gym very limited options, luckily we didn’t encounter anyone else using it but had there been more than 2 of us it would have been an issue to complete a workout. Last but not least I would recommend the tea in the room having a better selection (fruit teas) and it should be an Irish brand in my humble opinion. None of the above would stop us from recommending and returning to the lake hotel

We had a wonderful stay at the Lake Hotel, the view from our window was amazing. The room was large and had everything we needed. The hotel feels more like staying at someone’s home, the whole experience was so welcoming and the staff were all superb. We couldn’t fault it.

We enjoyed our one night stay in an upgraded room on the 5th floor. The room was well appointed with the most beautiful view of the lake and the McCarthy Castle. We also booked a session in the Thermal Suite which was very scenic and relaxing! The ambience of the restaurants and common area completed the luxury feel of staying at The Lake Hotel!

Our hotel stay was fantastic. The facilities were great and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. The breakfast could have been nicer, maybe the volume sitting there caused sogginess in particular the potatoes.

Not great for kids-no access to pool. But staff was fantastic. The hotel is gorgeous. View is remarkable. The bar makes you want to have one more!

Great location, beautiful, peaceful, a nice way to get back to something relaxing and peaceful after a day of travel or sightseeing. The staff was exceptionally helpful. We had a small issue with our reservation and they handled it beautifully. Really great breakfast buffet too, with views of the lake. We weren't sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised.

Dinner service was top class, with exceptional food and friendly, attentive staff. The new thermal suite was simply amazing — so relaxing and beautifully designed. Our Master Deluxe Suite was fabulous — spacious, luxurious, and perfectly comfortable. Everything was top, top class, and we’ll definitely be back!

Our family of 6 (4 adult children in late 20's/30) decided to stay here for 3 nights during our 10 day trip to Ireland. We used the hotel as a base to do activities like horseback riding, Gap of Dunloe tour, etc. It is a beautiful spot, a quick taxi ride from downtown, wonderfully decorated rooms, great bar and restuarant if you want to stay on site. We had intended to rent bikes and also get to Muckross but time got the best of us. We did take advantage of a 7pm slot at their Spa and enjoyed the hot tub, steam and saunas. Would highly recommend if you want a beautiful place, with access to many Killarney experiences. Killarney in general is a great spot to stay awhile!

The location and view are amazing and the room was a great size, but the property is a bit “tired”. We had a great breakfast!

The view is to die for and the focal point for the entire hotel. Food was outstanding and great central point for all sightseeing. We will go back!

No pool access for kids. Our bed was pretty small. The view however is breathtaking. The staff is wonderful as well. Very stunning common areas. The bar made you want to have one more.

Gorgeous property on a magical setting. Very beautiful & charming inside the National Park.

Excellent location, excellent staff, excellent atmosphere, excellent food, excellent thermal suite. Spotlessly clean. Noise level is very quiet & relaxed. Always feel totally relaxed after visiting the Lake Hotel. Reception staff were very helpful & went over and above to ensure our stay was top class!
