The food was amazing, especially the supper, gourmet food. Breakfast was wonderful too. The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly. Every fine detail was thought through. Hostess wonderfully skilled to provide an excellent experience of 5 star accommodation.

Swimming pool could have been a bit warmer for this time of year.

The accommodation was excellent, clean and spacious with lovely décor. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

The lodge is beautiful, the rooms are large, there is a kitchen counter for tea making, however no cutlery or wine glasses as you cannot bring your own drinks or fruit, it’s not allowed. Not sufficient water bottles in the , room that had double occupancy, there was one bottle of 330 ml , we had to ask and they gave us more.

We ate their one night & decided not to eat there again. The dinner was ok, breakfast was worst, I asked for an omelette, sent it back, it’s pretty basic & the chef couldn’t prepare it right, on Jan 1st we were at the pool, ordered tea & that took an hour, came back without milk, another half hour wait, Eden the manager/service staff was alone between breakfast & us. He told us the staff had gone to their homes and would be back later.

My Breakfast was delicious, I loved the wors. The bed was very comfortable and my room was very well equipped. The Wifi was excellent and I was very pleased they had room service for my evening meal.

The quietness of the place, beautiful garden and lounge area

No variety for breakfast. Same cereal, only one flavour for juice, same fruits daily. Same music at dinner and breakfast. It’s tiring after 3days. We stayed 5nights.

This is the second time we have stayed at Monkey Thorn Lodge and it was just as lovely as we remember. In fact the gardens were magnificent. The food as always was delicious, home cooked and fresh. The staff were as friendly and helpful as before. We will be back next year. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Outstanding Lodge. The gardens are the prettiest we have ever seen. The Manager and his team were excellent, super friendly and very professional. Our room was superb and very private. We had two perfect fillet steaks for dinner and the breakfast was equally as delicious. 10/10 in all respects.

The rooms are beautifully put together very comfortable setup and decor

The management is terrible. I go there often and it is always a fight to get what we need. This used to be our go to place as we are in white river monthly but with the way things are being managed it is not guest friendly. Basic requirements are not met. We used to get cappuccinos in our room this is no longer a possibility. Breakfast for kids before school is not possible and indeed charged extra if early despite it being a d b&b charge. It's very disappointing. We have found a new place to frequent close to uplands

Fantastic experience. We were shocked at how nice the lodge was, from the moment we entered you could tell someone really loves this lodge. The attention to detail is excellent, from the room layout to the menu. The staff are well trained and very welcoming. The gardens are incredibly beautiful and immaculate. We would recommend this for a weekend away, it is so relaxing.

Very friendly staff, very clean big room with lovely modern furniture, very nice dinner and breakfast, so all in all a very very nice experience.

We had an amazing stay at Monkey Thorn Lodge. From the moment we arrived it was really good. The manager and his staff were tops and looked after us really well. There is nothing you could fault. We sat on the veranda at sunset enjoying cocktails followed by a lovely meal. The beds are the best and our suite was very private. My wife loved the gardens and bird watching. We can highly recommend this establishment and will be back next year for longer.

The accommodation was excellent, spotless clean, fantastic room facilities and the main lodge building was charming and a lot of care and attention has been given to make it so stylish and comfortable. The staff were very well trained and very friendly. The food was excellent with plenty of choices and all home cooked. This is an excellent place and next time we will stay longer.

Beautiful property, with excellent lounging facilities and outdoor areas. Rooms were comfy and very large. Great overnight stay on our way back to Jhb.

The drinks offering could be improved but this was a minor inconvenience.

We stay with friends at this hotel. It was excellent and staff were very friendly. We eat in restaurant and for us we had pizza and we Italian. It was perfect pizza. The room was grand and elegant and the beds were very comfortable, we sleep very good. We highly recommend this hotel for holiday.

Fantastic place. The staff were so welcoming. Best cocktails and food was yummy. Loved our room and the privacy. We will stay again. Great assistance with what we could do in the area and the manager organised our Kruger safari for us which was really helpful.

The gardens are immaculate and the main lodge where the restaurant is was lovely. We sat by the fire before dinner and enjoyed a cocktail and then had the most delicious meal in the restaurant. we can highly recommend Monkey Thorn Lodge and it was also great value for the price we paid.

Brilliant all round can't fault it

I booked last minute and was amazed at the welcome I received. The room I had was outstanding. It was very spacious, clean and had excellent facilities. I arrived late and the restaurant was still open where I was served a burger that was delicious. Next morning I saw the lodge in day light, it is very pretty, the gardens are manicured and I enjoyed my breakfast immensely, plenty of choices and very generous portions. An overall shock at finding such an outstanding place last minute by chance.

Very clean, elegant. Secure, a lil hidden paradise

Brilliant accommodation and perfect location for our one night stay after the Kruger Park. If we had known it was going to be so nice we would of stayed longer to tour the area. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was really good and plenty of choices. The breakfast was fab and delicious. You can not fault this lodge, from modern, spotless, clean, large, comfy rooms to the privacy and manicured gardens, we recommend it 100%.

Excellent Private Lodge with a great restaurant. Fabulous breakfast and staff were super helpful. Really enjoyed the supersized room which was very clean and had everything we needed. Bed was super comfy and place is very quiet at night so we slept right through. Can highly recommend.

One of the best lodges we have stayed at in a long time. We had dinner in the restaurant and everything is home cooked and really delicious. The setting is charming with beautiful grounds. Staff lovely and very attentive. Best was the breakfast, everything on the menu to choose from and the wors was the best. We highly recommend this lodge and we will be back with the kids.

Fabulous Breakfast and the place is very quiet so got a great nights sleep on the very comfy bed.

Everything you need for a very comfortable stay if you’re keen to do day trips in the area. Close to Kruger but at least an hour away from the other main tourist spots. Was only there for 2 nights, if we’d stayed longer we would have done more driving. Food and staff are incredible!

Booked for a romantic night for a special occasion and it was fantastic. Everything was perfect. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant and the ambience was so romantic, with the grounds lit up and a fire by the pool. The staff treated us like VIP guests and put flowers in our room. Thank you it was a night to remember.

Easy to find. Not far from town. Great internet and room was huge with everything you need and very very clean. I had a meal in my room as I arrived late and it was a lovely steak burger. Bed had a topper so I slept really well and breakfast was amazing, loads to choose from and good strong coffee. I will definitely be using again for my business trips.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Monkey Thorn Guest Lodge in White River. Rooms were huge and beds absolutely comfortable. We had dinner and breakfast twice and our whole family was blown away by the excellent service we received from the dedicated staff, especially from MC, who always went the extra mile and fulfilled every one of your wishes instantly. Many thanks again, MC! Food was delicious and we were really glad we'd decided to eat at the lodge. We would have stayed longer if we could have and we really hope to stay there again some time near. You really won't find a better place to stay at!

We booked online last minute and we were delighted. The pictures really don't show how beautiful this lodge is and the standard of service we received from the staff was excellent. We ate in the restaurant and had a lovely steak and chicken pie which was home made. Breakfast is fantastic, with a great selection and choice.

Superb lodge. Staff are great, food excellent, accommodation huge and very clean. The gardens are a real treat and the location was perfect, close enough to town but peaceful and quiet.

Poor WiFi

We stayed one night at this lodge before our Kruger trip and it was delightful. A very warm welcome from the staff and when we saw our room we were blown away, it was huge and the furniture and decorations was charming. Very clean but best of all very quiet, so we had a fantastic nights sleep before our trip. Dinner and breakfast was excellent.

Beautiful rooms, lots of space. Lovely pool. Freshly cooked meals, an excellent stay.

The dirt road made access difficult due to recent flooding but there isn’t anything the property could have done about this.

The management is fantastic, beautiful property, HUGE rooms with huge bathroom and a kitchenette / fridge etc. BEAUTIFUL food, amazing clean pool. spotlessly clean. gorgeous garden for the kids to roam. We stayed for one night at this amazing lodge on our way to the Kruger. We felt like we were already in the bush when we enjoyed the evening around the boma fire. The cottage we had was stunning and overlooked the lushest greenest garden I have seen in a long time. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent and the staff and service is great. We met the owner who was very friendly and she gave us maps of the best trails in the Kruger. Places like this make travelling a pleasure. Great job you guys.

Fantastic bed with excellent breakfast

If you are travelling to this area you wont find a better place. Everything was superb. The staff are really friendly and looked after us really well. The accommodation is excellent, we had a deluxe king room which was huge and was clean and well appointed. Food was great and plentiful. Gardens are stunning and the whole place is well maintained. Bonus of generator during load shedding.

Everything thing was fantastic, from the time we arrived a warm welcome from the receptionist, room was huge, clean and decor was lovely. The staff really take care of you and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant which was beautiful and romantic. I asked for flowers in the room as it was our anniversary and they made it so beautiful with flowers from the garden. We will remember our stay, Thank you

Spacious clean room.

Dining room doesn't open at 07.30 for breakfast as advertised. Staff only arrive at 07.30. I couldn't eat breakfast, seeing that I had an appointment at 08.00. Management doesn't answer phones until 08.00. Needless to say no compensation was given for the breakfast I didn't have, but was included in my booking.

This Lodge is a real find. I was on business and my work was not interrupted as they have a generator for load shedding and the WiFi is great as they have their own WiFi tower. So it was a pleasure to be there for work, but the lodge is also really nice and staff are very helpful and friendly and they printed my documents free of charge. Food was also great. I will stay again.
