Having to leave
Great location. Close to Porto Cervo. Perfect view across the bay. Staff were so friendly.
There wasn’t enough sun beds. So if you wanted a “good” spot you had to get up 6 am. One couple were placing their towels at 2am! If there were more beds, it wouldn’t be an issue.
Great location and lovely sun terraces with plenty of sunbeds and shade
Garden view rooms are outdated and have a view of the car park not a garden. Food was mediocre
Had problem with one of rooms sorted straight away moved to another room
Mare stupendo piscine molto belle bellissima vista
Amazing location, amazing facilities, so many great spots just within the hotel, 2 beaches and great places to adventure to.
Yes the rooms are dated, but not a concern as everything functioned perfectly and vas very clean
Wonderful location
Our room didn’t have a side view to ocean as promised. AC want cold
Location , beach access, parking
The rooms are dated , although comfortable Breakfast was good but could be improved : juices were not fresh, a lot of the fruits were canned fruits. It’s a pity in such a lovely place as italy.
Great hotel very clean, really good food, one Large pool and I think 8 smaller ones so you can more often than not find your own quiet space, right on top of the Med lunch is great they show you the days selection you choose they cook you eat all while sat feet away from the Med. Rooms have been kept in the traditional style deliberately but are spotless, this was our 3rd visit and will go again.
Struttura ben gestita, pulita e posizione ottima
Please do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS HOTEL!! Saying it needs renovations is the understatement of the century… the carpets are stained, rooms smell of cigarettes and cleaning products, linens are from the 80s. Staff was fine and views are beautiful but at what cost??? I can’t believe this place is passing for 4 stars there is absolutely NO WAY. The food looks to be recycled and is in no way edible. Not even free water provided. To top it off, I got sick after one night here due to the fumes in the room, and my husband and I both broke out in small red bumps (BEDBUGS!!) and rash all over. Do not let the positive reviews sway you to spend your money here, the owners should be ashamed of this place!!!
It is in a fantastic location looking into a beautiful bay and it has a number of pools - it is only about a five minute walk across a small hill from a beautiful beach and little town with lots of restaurants. The staff are friendly & helpful.
The decor is very dated and a bit strange with a mix of flora and British naval ship imagery as well as an antique handpainted look. The pools are mostly quite small and shallow (but very clean and we were always able to find a set of deck chairs). The gym was dated not air-conditioned and the rowing machine was not operational. The treadmill barely functional. But the thing that really let this property down is the strange policies - despite the price of the place they charge you two euro each time you want to change your beach towel, they charge you €10 if you want some ice (where most hotels of this level would provide an ice machine for free). They also have a number of restaurant areas but most of them seem to not be operational most of the time and you couldn’t order a drink or something to eat near any of the pools. The hotel breakfast was okay not great but what was very strange. Was that the best seats along the front looking over the pool? We’re all shut in the morning because they were set up for dinner that night - why they couldn’t reset the tables at night I do not know but it was just very unusual to deliberately prevent people sitting in the good spots. Finally and strangest of all despite two different coffee machines and a proper espresso machine in the bar there was no decent coffee at the hotel. They must be using some the mix that any Italian would cry over. We were not the only guests commenting on how undrinkable the coffee was.
The location is perfect , staff is so nice and helpful! Food was good , beach is very nice , view from the sea view rooms just excellent specially while the sunset time. As well the view from the main bar near the reception spectacular! It’s very close to PHI beach and lost of other restaurants and bars and other lovely beaches . So close to Porto Cervo and Palau. Excellent location lots of things to do as well if u need relax you will find it here.
The rooms are outdated as well the restaurant. The chairs at the restaurant not comfortable. Expensive during the high season.
Praia do hotel. Vista do quarto
Hotel muito antigo. Serviço não é de 4 estrelas
Good positioning, beach front
Rude staff, very old rooms, everything is do it yourself. 0 hospitality .
Third time back. Love the hotel and the beach. Food overall is excellent. All local sourced in the main.
Great location, lovely private beach, great choice of swimming pools, plenty of choice for breakfast, beautiful sunset views and all the staff were friendly and helpful
Tea & coffee making facilities in the room would be appreciated
Location was fabulous.

We really had a great time here and would most definitely recommend it.The atmosphere was chilled and welcoming and the view was absolutely spectacular. The staff are very helpful and friendly too. The hotel is built and decorated in a very classic authentic style however some modern touches may now need to be added….just to bring up to date. The breakfast room is classic and basic too but again cleanliness is at a premium. Noise levels are non existent….it’s a wonderful resort, on an amazing island with some great places to see…Baja Sardinia, Porto Cervo and the Maddalena Islands to name a few….. Ideal for a three or four day break. ❤️🇮🇹
polozenie hotelu, baseny infrastruktura wszystki OK.
pokoj, silownia, ubokie sniadanie
Praticamente me expulsaram da mesa

Great beach. Good location. Nice stuff.
Furnitures old and moldy. Needs renovation. Remove the carpets and modernize the rooms please. Rooms and bathrooms did not look clean, even if they were clean probably! Because so old.
We were disappointed with our stay and don’t feel this hotel lives up to its advertised rating. It’s much closer to a 3-star property. The hotel itself is extremely outdated. Our room had several issues, including drains that didn’t work properly. The air conditioning barely worked, leaving the room uncomfortably warm, especially since there was no fan. When we mentioned the AC to the concierge, he laughed and asked if we were “from Canada,” which felt dismissive rather than customer-focused. The hotel also lacked several basic amenities that many travelers, especially those used to U.S. hotels, expect. Such as no ice machine or small convenience store for necessities, so we had to purchase bottled water, and we were even told we’d have to pay for an extra towel. Our biggest frustration was the service at the beach restaurant. On our first visit, the server was rude and aggressive. She yelled at us because she hadn’t noticed we had been seated 15 minutes prior, and when we approached her asking if we need to order at the counter, she made a scene and told us the kitchen had closed 5 minutes ago. The next day, both my wife and I ordered pasta, but only mine was brought out. About five minutes later, we asked when my wife’s meal would arrive. The server said she didn’t realize my wife had ordered pasta as well and that there was nothing she could do because the kitchen had already closed. As a result, my wife didn’t get lunch at all. 10 minutes later, we see pizza being delivered to the table next to us. It was an incredibly frustrating experience and only made worse by the main server repeatedly being rude. However, the location is excellent, with beautiful surroundings, and the breakfast each morning was very good. The pool and beach areas were nice, although several of the lounge chairs were uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the outdated facilities, lack of basic amenities, poor air conditioning, and disappointing customer service outweighed the positives for us. We wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
Poolbar sehr freundliches Personal Flexibilität wegen Zusatzbett
We booked this hotel for our honeymoon, and as we booked Citalia, We believed it to be a superior standard hotel. Upon arrival, the hotel had kindly left us a bottle of Prosecco in the room on ice and the balcony gave us stunning views of the coastline. However, there were a number of issues with the hotel which let it down. The sunbeds are reserved from an early time by guest at the hotel. And often they are not even used until late afternoon, This is not policed by the hotel or the lifeguards. In fact, when I brought it up to reception the hotel receptionist, Stephanie, shrugged her shoulders and said it was not her problem and to speak to a lifeguard. The quality of the breakfast Is average, the heart selection was lukewarm and not of a great quality, the fruit juices were pre-mixed in a dispensing machine and if you wanted fresh fruit juice you had to pay for this. I believe it is €6 for a glass. The hotel has signage to say it is a superior quality hotel, and I would disagree after spending the first week on the Amalfi Coast in a four star rated hotel the service and food there was for superior. In addition if you want to change your pool towel, you have to do this between specified times in the morning and our charge €2 per towel per person per day to do this. The location is stunning. The views are magical. There are some beautiful restaurants in the village to eat at. Overall, a disappointing stay. We will go back to Sardinia, but not this hotel.
This hotel/resort was a highlight for my family and me on our trip. We loved the location, the facilities and the staff. Our rooms were "charming" but comfortable and well equipped. The resort is beautiful! So many pools to choose from and the private beach was spectacular. Breakfast was great. We didnt eat dinner here, but ate lunch at the beach bar most days and the food and service were great. The upstairs bar was a lovely place for an evening drink or night cap. There are lots of restaurants within a short walk, and several options for day-trips/boat trips from nearby Cala Bitta. We loved this resort and would definitely stay here again.
Posizione ottima, personale gentile e buon cibo
I bagni, troppo datati
We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel although there are a couple of areas which could be improved. All staff were approachable and friendly which ensured a smooth check in. Our sea view room was clean and comfortable with excellent views of the sea and the pool areas of the hotel. Our room had a fridge and efficient air conditioning. We very much enjoyed the gesture of a bottle of prosecco which was in our room on arrival. This hotel is in an excellent location only 5 minutes walk into town where there are many restaurants and bar options as well as a public beach. The supermarket is a good 15 minutes walk from the hotel. Some areas that could be improved include modernisation of the bathroom in our room which felt tired and dated. The plastic chairs on the balcony need upgrading to something more modern and comfortable. Continental breakfast had many options but the hot food selection was limited and poor quality which didn’t change for the duration of our stay. There are not enough sun beds for the amount of guests staying during high season so the only option is to get up early to secure a sun bed. There are many pool options although they are all showing signs of wear and tear. There could be more customer engagement opportunities through additional events such as an evening bbq, cocktail hour and also more variety for live entertainment. Overall we had a nice holiday at this hotel which is in a stunning location with breathtaking views and a lovely private beach, which is the main reasons for the rating. However for us the hotel does feel tired and stuck in a different century so would require significant investment to modernise if we were to stay again in the future.
The property has a stunning private beach which is where my husband and I spent most of our time while there. With that being said, that was about the only thing we enjoyed besides the pleasant staff. The pools are nice, but there are a lot of children on property and most of the pools were overran by them. I envisioned this hotel being the perfect base for our explorations of Sardinia, with multiple areas of interest just a short drive away, but the “Taxis” that the front desk books for you cost a small fortune. 40 euros one way for a 10 minute drive. 100 euros one way for anything longer. For this reason, we slashed most of our itinerary because rides alone would have cost us thousands. It is situated next to (6 minute walk uphill) a very cute town with some decent restaurants, but not enough to keep us satisfied for a 6 day trip.
When I come to Italy, I come for FRESH, DELICIOUS food. When we got there our first day, we were very hungry from travel. It was around 11:30am. With a property that boasts multiple restaurants and bars, not to mention for the price they charge per night, you would think this wouldn’t be a problem. The pool bar informed us the only thing available was 2 different types of FROZEN PIZZA. I’m sorry but I don’t come to Italy to eat frozen pizza. Then I learned about the horrendous food situation: 7:30-10:00 breakfast (aka jarred fruit not even fresh, cold cuts, and cold eggs that we couldn’t even choke down). 12:30-2:00 lunch $40 euros per person. And then dinner doesn’t begin until 19:30 and it’s $45 euros per person. So if you’re enjoying the amenities at the “luxury” hotel (which was very outdated) you’re paying for and they aren’t serving during those times, your option is frozen pizza. Coming back from a hot day and need water? Oh walk back out in the heat and down two flights of stairs to get a bottle of water. Ridiculous in my opinion. Also, the room does not get cold with the “air conditioner”, and our “double bed” was two different mattresses pushed together which they tried to disguise by dressing it as a double bed. The mattresses were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, and both equally as uncomfortable, so we noticed it right away. Seems like they’re cutting corners wherever they can and raking in money for their private beach. Everything is an inconvenience or extra charge. They made nothing easy or comfortable.
Location and beach
Air conditioning not sufficient
- Very nice beach, good breakfast, helpful stuff. - Convenient for walking to Baia Sardinia. - The casual restaurant across the hotel is very nice for lunches and dinners. (Foodie)
- The furniture in the room was so old that I couldn’t tell whether it was just aged or actually clean. - Poor wireless connection.
Perfection!
Fantastic Hotel, just the best location on the Beach as if it is a natural SPA. The Hotel has old world charm and our room was romantic with great views over the bay which amazed at any time of day with clear, light blue, turquoise and emerald colours. There is a choice of 6 pools, and 3 coves one having the tiniest romantic beach for two. There is a large central sandy beach. There are plenty of Sun loungers with guests gravitating to their preference, by a pool , on the beach or on the cliff shaded by the pines over looking the coves. Snorkelling a must at the hotel with plenty to see. We had one excursion the hotel helped us with sailing to the Magdalena Archipelago visiting wonderful beaches with crystal clear waters to swim in, the trip included coffee, apéritif, lunch and fruit and cake later into the afternoon with as much water as you needed only 12 guests on the boat so plenty of space, it was a great day. We ate at the Belvedere restaurant over looking Porto Cervo, and The Barracuda in Baia Sardinia … sssh ask Elanora if you can’t sit on the roof for a special romantic occasion, great restaurant with great staff including Luigi. We would also recommend Korale which again has a fantastic roof top with friendly attentive staff and great food. The Breakfast is Italian so don’t expect an International hotel breakfast catering for an international set, it is very Italian. But you know what with the location and friendly staff, who needs a breakfast to compensate for a poor location. Baia Sardinia is safe, stylish, discerning and very civilised. If you fancy a night out PHI beach is at the end of the bay, look it up and have a great night. Porto Cervo marina is 7 mins away by the local bus if you fancy buying your Yacht, and you will be spoilt for choice. The Super Yachts that sail pass daily or anchor in the bay are amazing Sunsets can bring your day on the beach to a prefect close. Elena and the whole team at the Hotel made us feel most welcome and we can’t wait to go back….. Ssssh why am I telling everyone how great this. Our trip was organised by the incredible Roberta Comley of Designer travel. You just know it is going to feel luxury when the car picking you up from the Airport was a Maybach. Thank you all we will see you all again “
Defo not 4 star... needs to refurb desperately... have stayed in better 3 star hotel rooms... breakfast is beige, fruit and breads and more breads.... no egg station making it very boring day after day. The pools and views are to die for... (but be up early if you want a sunlounger by a pool - the beach isnt so bad).
Just returned from an 11 day break at the hotel. The hotel is designed in a Shabby Chic style which we loved..Great air conditioning and a superb view of the sea..(did pay extra for sea view)..An adequate bathroom with a varying degree of hot water depending on how many other rooms we’re using at the same time.Breakfast was ok with scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage as the hot options (never changes) and a delicious array of cakes and pastries freshly baked..(if your round the pool early you can smell the baking)..The staff are nice everywhere in the hotel from the reception to the cleaners..A few restaurants and short walk away and a nice pizza and pasta opposite..Only thing I could really moan about was a single toaster for the whole hotel and the coffee which tasted like instant..but was lovely when you bought a coffee at the bar..
We were three ladies cramped into an 'upgraded' double room with an extra camp-type bed pushed in..we asked to be moved but were told the hotel was full..after pursuing this, we were shown a room with an awful view, overlooking a car park ,we felt it was just to shut us up..pool area and view were nice..reception staff quite ignorant and unhelpful.
We loved the beach we loved the pools, I thought the breakfast was amazing and a great variety of options. I love the balconies and I love the walk-in closet. Also, the grounds of the property was up, kept nicely.
I felt as though the hotel needed a paint job. The rooms were a little dated and small, but that’s expected for Italy. Maybe more pools chairs out for guests on busy days.
We stayed here for a four nights on a b&b basis. Hotel is lovely and lovely location on the coast. Spacious room with amazing views. Bed on the firm side and we needed extra pillows. Air conditioning was very noisy but needed. Shower above the bath was okay. Appreciated the bubbly and fruit on arrival. Lots of sunbeds/pools but if you go down late morning there is little chance of getting a bed. Not great if you are less mobile as lots of stairs to the pool /beach area. Breakfast was okay really nothing special. Nowhere to fill a water bottle up which is very unusual nowadays. In fact the water machine at breakfast says do not fill them up! We ate out in the evenings, there is a restaurant opposite and the square is about 10 minute walk with loads of restaurants/shops.
Let me start with the positives. The room, bathroom, balcony and all of the hotel's main areas were super clean and very well maintained. While some people may find the décor a little dated, I actually think it adds to the hotel's authentic Italian charm. The pool areas were never overcrowded, making them incredibly peaceful and perfect for relaxing. The private beach is also a lovely spot, with beautiful views overlooking the bay. The hotel’s in a great location, less than a 10 min walk from the main ‘town’ area so you’re close enough but also can enjoy a quieter spot. You do have to walk up a pretty steep hill either on your way there or back so just keep that in mind! My mum has a dodgy hip and knee so we took it very slow but it is doable! The reception and bar staff were consistently warm, welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. That said, I do think the hotel falls short in a few key areas that prevent it from feeling like a true 4-star experience. The breakfast was particularly disappointing. There were only four hot buffet options, which never changed during our stay, and if you wanted freshly cooked fried eggs, there was an additional charge of €5.50. The restaurant itself also lacked atmosphere and didn't feel especially inviting, so I'm glad we only booked bed and breakfast. Whilst the hotel has two restaurants, one in the main building and the other by the beach, the settings didn’t make use of the beautiful landscape e.g outside space. Entertainment was another area where the hotel could improve. Aside from a pianist in the evenings, who was great, there was very little else on offer. For a 4-star hotel, I would have expected a wider range of evening entertainment. A few practical things worth knowing before you visit: - Pool towel exchanges cost €2 each time. - When we requested a late check out room, they wanted to charge us €200. There is a shower available in the bar area for guests leaving later in the day, but the facilities are very basic, with only a single shower rather than access to something like spa changing facilities. - Taxis are extremely expensive. We paid €35 for a seven-minute journey to Poltu Quatu, and journeys after 10pm incur an additional 20% surcharge. Overall, the hotel has positives, particularly its cleanliness, peaceful atmosphere and beautiful location. However, there are several areas where improvements would make it feel much better value and more in line with its 4-star rating.
Nær stranden, hyggelig personal, rent, vakre omgivelser
Pretty much everything could not have been better. The food is great, the staff are great. The only issue is the guests - "reserving" sunbeds at stupid o'clock in the morning and sometimes not even using them for hours. So whilst the guests cause the issue, the hotel needs to find a way to address it. This is of course often a problem, especially with some sections of the travelling guests. Overall though the hotel is good enough that I wouldn't want to knock a star off for that, but if the hotel was full it would be a serious problem so beware.
My wife and I just returned from island hopping in the Mediterranean. This was one of our four stays (Ibiza, Mallorca, Sardinia, Sorrento), and unfortunately, it was the most disappointing. It started with our flight being cancelled from Mallorca, resulting in our missing our first night. We called the hotel to let them know as soon as we knew we couldn't get there, and we were assured it wasn't a problem. Note that they were not sold out during our stay. When we arrived late the next day, our check in was a disaster. We were two couples, with no other guests at the desk. Check in took more than 30 minutes. This included 10 minutes where the attendant tried to get us on the wifi, as it was "complicated" (his words). In the end, two of us were without wifi during the stay, as their system doesn't really support iphones - seriously? Just as we were finishing the check in, the attendant sheepishly informed me that I was being charged for my missed night, despite my having informed the hotel that we were not able to be on the island. I took this up at checkout, where I was assured I was only being charged for four nights (they had my checkout wrong, which they admitted). Upon checking my credit card, sure enough, they charged me for the original 5 nights. The included breakfast was extensive, but the quality wasn't really in keeping with the price of the hotel. Powdered eggs, all drinks from dispensers (no fresh juices in Spain?), and generic meats. It was ok, but again, not what you'd expect at this level. Overall, the hotel felt very dated. The door of our room wouldn't latch unless you used the key and bolted it. Our safe didn't work at all. Bathroom was tiny and old. Again, not what I'd expect at this price level. One thing that really stood out was how they handled water. We were clearly informed that the water from the tap should not be consumed. OK, a little odd for Western Europe, but ok. But then you needed to buy all your water at elevated prices. Nothing provided in the room, even the gym had no water, which was crazy in the heatwave that was hitting at the time. There was water at breakfast, but there was a sign on it telling you not to fill water bottles. Now, I've travelled for business for 25+ years, and stayed thousands of nights in hotels (no exageration), and I've never seen a hotel pull this sort of cash grab. This should not be legal. On the plus side, the beach and pools were quite nice. We had lunch on site, but went out each night for dinner. It's a short walk to the local town, where there are a few nice spots to eat - and a store where you can buy water that isn't at extorsion pricing. We loved the island and would like to return, but I don't think The Grand Hotel Smereldo will be on our itinerary.
Beautiful grounds. Wonderful private beach and four swimming pools
I would have liked full service bar as the pools or at least the main pool.
Hotel comodo.
Really enjoyed our stay at this beautifully located hotel. It was a nice hotel, very traditional and spotlessly clean. The sun beds were a bit of an issue unless you got down very early. The breakfast was ok - a bit repetitive and no ‘egg station’. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The pool areas were lovely and it was nice that there were lots of different areas around the hotel with access to the pools. The private beach was great with easy access to the sea.
Perfect location, pretty grounds and felt very Italian. Couldn’t fault a single thing
No sun beds left by any pool from 7am, you need to get up early which is frustrating
We’ve just returned from a weeks stay here. I tend to do lots of research on any type of holiday so we knew what we were getting. At the general level I’ve listed the pros and cons below, although we knew the cons none of which bothered us hence the 5 stars. Pros: The location is perfect, fantastic views over the sea and towards the La Maddalena islands. There’s a small beach (relatively easy access but down some steps) and a much smaller tiny beach (down a series of rougher steps). The water is just so clear and we much prefer small bays as opposed to large beaches so this suited us perfectly. Additionally there’s a good 6 or 7 pools all in different areas with trees and greenery making the areas feel more individual and as we did you’ll usually find one area that’s your favourite. We only stayed B&B as we knew there’s a well reviewed restaurant straight outside the hotel and plenty only a 10 minute walk away at Baia sardinia. Breakfast was fine for us as it gave the mix of things we like. Other reviews talk of the hotel being dated. In my mind there’s two types of dated with one being a little tired and in need of a refresh and the other being something that has traditional decor but everything is clean and well looked after. This hotel for us was definitely the latter we quite liked the feel Cons: For some people these might be issues but for us they weren’t. 1st. The outside areas have plenty of steps so if you don’t want this then this is not the ideal hotel. 2nd. Granted it is only the end of June and august might be different but the towel dump to grab a lounger definitely happens in the favoured positions but we never had an issue getting a lounger normally with great views over the sea. 3rd. Whilst it’s less than a 10 minute walk to the centre of Baia sardinia with its beach and restaurants it’s up a steepish hill and down the other side. We didn’t mind it in the evenings but won’t suit some people and would limit options for restaurants. One final piece I spent a fair bit of time looking at boat trips to la maddalena prior to travelling. Yes most trips go from Palau but there’s plenty of options from Baia sardinia and it’s a place that we’ll worth going to. The options we looked at are the big tourist motorboats (circa 65 euros) booked via hotel or the booking huts on the beach. Self drive dingys but decided against that. This left 3 options for a day trip all catering for 10-12 people these being velieravalentina and old yacht, a motorboat for the same number which I can’t remember the name of and gamesailing who have a catamaran and actually go from a port 5 minutes away but will sort the trf. I’d highly recommend gamesailing but also velieravalentina but with this latter option the access to the sea is off a ladder to the side and not as easy as a catamaran.
Hotel is generally ok but if you want a sunlounger you need to be up at 6am to put your towel down. Despicable practice but alive and well at this hotel
Fantastic location for the beach and sea front. Two beaches, the main one and another one down steps for able bodied people to a small cove which was beautiful for a nice swim. Hotel rooms are very comfortable with friendly attentive staff. We were half board and breakfast was a nice selection of hot and cold buffet food. Evening meals were 4 courses and plenty of selection for each course. Supermarket is about 10 mins walk away and the room has a fridge so you can bring in your own water to save keep buying drinks all day. Across the road from the hotel is a lovely pizza restaurant as well, reasonably priced. I’d highly recommend this hotel.
Great location. Walking distance to the center of town and to near by Phi Beach club.
In need of an update very dated, a lack of atmosphere, although it’s clean and staffing very good the hotel offers nothing that is 4 star. Very nice pool but poor pool bar which is very expensive two Bombay gins 1 tonic 32euros, beach was dirty and sun beds are 30 euros a day to use. As the hotel is isolated a hire car is essential.
Beautiful location, the hotel is spread over an area close to the sea. It has several access to beaches which are great for swimming and teeming with fish. There are a number of fresh water swimming pools dotted around the area between the hotel and the sea, ideal for cooling off after a bit of sunbathing. There were plenty of sun beds dotted around all across the pools and main beach. Life guard is overlooking all the time. The rooms were fine and cleaned every day. The staff were great and very helpful. We only had breakfast which was buffet style but enough there to choose from. The waiters and waitresses were all very smart and eager to please. There was a free safe in the room which was helpful and the Wi-Fi was okay. It was a short walk from the hotel to a small bay with a number of restaurants and bars. Some were very nice indeed and the area was unspoilt. If you want a quiet, relaxing, plush place to stay this was it.
The beach location was fantastic & numerous swimming pools also to avail of.
We went for half board - food mediocre
Ligging, uitzicht, klantvriendelijkheid, prima kamers
Thanks to the hotel we got a free upgrade to a sea view room which was a nice surprise. The view is incredible and the room was spacious and clean, there was also a bath tub. Location is very close to other restaurants and the private beach is definitely a plus. Free parking.
We were missing some basic things like a blanket in the room.. There was no duvet on the bed , just a sheet and as it was not the start of the season yet it was quite chilly. Rooms are a bit outdated but ok. Breakfast was well below average for a 4 star hotel.. couldn't really call it coffee or proper food, very cheap and mass produced. Unfortunately the staff was not very knowledgable during our stay we got sick and also it was raining every day and they couldn't provide us any help on any tips on suggestions on what to do in the island other than looking on google maps and re-sharing the same information which was very odd for a hotel. They also tried to charge us drinks from a bar which we never ordered. Beware that there are only maybe 10 sun loungers in front of the hotel, the rest are just chairs which don't even recline fully so I imagine it is not great for tanning when the hotel is full and it's sunny.
We paid extra for a sea view and the room we were given was fabulous. WiFi was not available in our room on most occaisions and a very poor speed when (rarely). The problems we encountered were corrected very quickly, such as the cold tap being totally stuck in the shower. The shower kept going very hot sometimes 3 times during a shower before returning to the required temperature. This was much more than just when one person used the toilet near to our room. There was no tea and coffee making facilities in our room. We asked about getting a kettle (as we had bought our own tea and coffee) but were told this was not available. However, after talking to the reception staff our Holiday Representative obtained one for us. The worst thing of all was the breakfast. The hot food was limited (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and potato cakes) and they were not hot at all. I asked if I could have poached eggs but was told they would cost extra. Whenever we go on holiday we book bed and breakfast, in order to try local restaurants. But we also arrange for a dinner in the hotel on some evenings. When asking for a table for dinner we were told that it was fully booked. We found out that the hotel gave dinner to several German groups that were not staying in the hotel. We spoke to some English residents who were booked on half board, who told us the dinner was OK but nothing special and very noisy in a room full of Germans who were talking loudly. Fortunately there are plenty of restaurants only short walk away and the food in every restaurant we visited was fabulous. On our last morning we needed an early breakfast at 5.30am. We were told there would only be cerial, bread rolls, jam and cake plus fresh fruit. There was no fresh fruit or cold milk for the cereal. All of the staff (except two senior restaurant staff) were superb and the quality of cleanliness throughout the hotel and room cleaning service was excellent. The private beach and pool areas were wonderful.
The hotel is in a great place to access the center of Baia Sardinia, Restaurants, Cafes nearby. Also boat trips to 'La Madellena' etc can be booked. I booked a trip to Capo Testa, which looks amazing and different to the local area. Plenty of other tour options nearby. You can easily do an hour Hike from each side of the hotel with amazing scenery right on the doorstep.
Enjoyed overall but could have been so much better with a few tweaks. The sea view rooms are ok but are lacking some basics. The only mirror in the room was obscured by a TV and as usual not enough plugs, or hangers in the wardrobe for two ladies although very accommodating when you ask for more - no full length mirror. No English speaking channels available on the TV except CNN as the hotel mainly caters for Germans. No tea or coffee in room and no decent ‘snacks’ available if you don’t want to leave the hotel and you’re booked B&B, apart from a very disappointing pizza. Wouldn’t like to be there in high season, the restaurant was fairly chaotic and the sound insulation almost non-existent so I dread to think …
Instalaciones piscinas acceso al mar y vistas habitaciones
The location, access to the beach. The grounds were beautiful. The front desk staff were very helpful.
The breakfast! Very average! The only fresh fruits were cantaloupe and kiwis, every single day for the 6 nights we stayed there. No fresh squeezed juices. The breakfast hours were from 7 to 10. But when we arrived at 9:30. We felt so rushed. I recognize that they were going to have lunch service in the same room starting at noon, but they were constantly around us collecting stuff from the other tables and then five minutes before 10 o’clock they would come and ask do you need anything else from the buffet table because we’re going to put everything away! Overall, it was not a pleasant experience having breakfast there. They were not very welcoming and didn’t even greeted us once! Also, it would be nice to have a coffee/ tea maker in the room. We had a beautiful balcony overlooking the sea. It would’ve been great to be able to have a cup of tea while sitting there enjoying the beautiful view.
Lage, Ausstattung, privater Strand, alles top!
Sonst alles gut…
Perfect
Old not like the decor
Stayed for long weekend with a couple of girlfriends and it exceeded expectations. Quirky decor which added to charm, room had plenty of storage, a fridge and was spotlessly clean. Agree it could do with a couple more plugs as we had to unplug the fridge to charge our phones. Above all the views from the terrace were stunning and the layout being on many levels meant we always had a spot to ourselves with a lovely view, we were lucky to have perfect weather so were able to swim in pool and the beautiful clear sea. Food was varied and civilised to have a 4 course menu rather than buffet. If you want to eat out in the evening you can swap dinner for lunch. Drinks were reasonable. Evening entertainment was a pianist who unfortunately insisted on singing! Short walk into the resort with restaurants, shops and again those lovely views. Supermarket was about 15 minutes walk if you want to stock up on water or snacks. We found staff to be lovely, reception gave us a map of the local area when we asked for one so don't understand the comments about them being unhelpful. Don't be put off by negative reviews it made a nice change to stay in a family run non chain hotel.
10/10 for this hotel and location. The photos do not do it justice on the website. We had a side view room that had an excellent view and the room was great and authentic Italian styled. The hotel was lovely and the staff were helpful, polite and friendly. The food was great and the selection for breakfast and the choice of four courses in the evening was delicious. The multiple pools and private beach was a delight to spend our days relaxing around. The town is a small walk to and beautiful with a small selection of bars, restaurants and shops of high quality. A must is the boat trip around the islands that had up to 12 people on board. Best boat trip ever. I would definitely recommend this hotel and location as I we had the best week here and wished we had booked for longer. You won’t regret choosing here to holiday.
The Hotel Smeraldo Beach is in overall excellent. The location is wonderfull. The beaches are very beautiful.
Location was fabulous with a private beach and a lovely relaxing atmosphere through the hotel. Staff were very friendly to our toddler. The Hotel also treated us to Prosecco on arrival for a special birthday.
A shame dinner in the restaurant didn’t start until 7:30pm as with a toddler we had to eat elsewhere earlier.
Lovely hotel, we had an ocean view room amazing waking up to that view each day, room very spacious. Hotel was very clean and well kept beautiful gardens, plenty of sun beds round the swimming pools and there we plenty on the beach. Breakfast plenty of choice everything was fresh. Short walk to the restaurants with lots to choose from. If you want to explore good idea to have a car as quite hotel is quite remote from another other towns, hotel has a car park or you can park outside.
The hotel is set in an undeniably beautiful location with access to a private beach. Rooms are very good and very clean and breakfast is really good with a wide range of choice. If all you want is to stay at the resort and enjoy what is on offer then this is for you. Before we went I emailed asking about excursions etc and was told that this information would be available on arrival. However when we got there all the excursions had already been booked up and the only one we managed to secure was on our last day, was cancelled. My criticism is that the front desk did not help with offering information at the start e.g. a map of the immediate location giving information on location of booking booths for boat trips, where the tourist information was, market day , where the local supermarket was - all these things we had to find out for ourselves. It seemed that you needed to ask questions rather than be given a package of info like in other hotels. The trip which was cancelled (no fault of theirs) was only discovered when I went down the previous evening to ask the pick up time for the following morning and then we were left a note in German under our door. Had we known in advance then we might have been able to sort another trip for that day.
Everything was perfect!!! The staff, beach, breakfast, cocktails! We had a sea view roo and it was fantastic!!! To Recommend!
I have have just returned from a week at the Grand Hotel Smeraldo Beach in Baja Sardinia and simply could not fault it. As noted in other reviews the location is picture perfect with the hotel benefiting from its own private stretch of beach and within 5-10 minutes walking distance of the small resort centre, although its worth noting that some of the inclines might be challenging for those with walking difficulties. Again as noted the half board option was really good value with all the usual choices at breakfast and the evening meal which consists of four courses was always enjoyable, wines ranged in costs upwards of 25 euros per bottle so not cheap but similar to those elsewhere. I can see that many people have commented on the rooms being dated which is true, but in my opinion this only added to the rustic charm of the hotel and the option of a sea view room is highly recommended. What did surprise me was just how busy the hotel was for mid September as I had expected the hotel to be quietening down for the end of the season, but no the opposite was the case as it was really busy, with a wide variety of guests from many different nationalities. I was slightly concerned over some review noting that the sun beds were difficult to find in the morning due to other guests reserving them first thing and whilst this did occur we never found any problems finding one and enjoyed all the nooks and crannies which were tucked away around the hotel grounds. Again as noted the staff were marvellous and attentive so again no concerns. Worth highlighting that the nearest supermarket is a 15 minute uphill walk at a steady pace. In summary, we really enjoyed our time and would recommend this hotel for a family or couple looking for a beach holiday.
Very good location, friendly staff, beautifull building desing, very clean, nice garden. Food- speechless! A lot of choices for breakfast and dinner, super quality and taste. Big ❤️ for your kitchen cheffs🙂🙃
A lovely spot locaion wise in a small cove but there are some pros and cons. Pros 4 course meals , helpful staff and lovely scenery. There were some cons though. The room itself was apinted like some kind of Barbie den-not to my taste but more importantly no tea or cofee making facilities were provided. Not many plug points and noUSB points aswell, so bring an adpater for charging. There is an extensive and wide site ogf mini pools and the main pool. So many of these are reached by steps and its OK for most, but if you have a mobility problem I'd book elsewhere. Not much problems with sunbeds, although you may lose your favourite spot, you'll find another. There is little to no public transport in this part of sardinia and so going anywhere for those that don't want to car hire is by boat. there is a lovley boat trip out to the nearby archipelego though. There's a piano bar in the evening and the servie there was OK. For sa meal out go to the nearby pretty decent Pizza restaurant. Also it's just a 10 minute at most walk to the main part of the resort where theres a large beach, some pedalos , kayaks and s few shops. Its quite popular and theres some decent places to get an ice cream or eat out. On the down side for the hotel, we did point out that my daughter had nut allergies and nearly every night they brought a dessert with almonds on . A forceful reminder to the reception staff about this problem did on the last night bring a no nuts dessert to the table. On the whole though a decent enough place to stay and the fact that it wasn't over run with Brits was a good sign. In my expereince if you go where the Germans go its usually a decent place.
Great location, pool beach swimming etc was great
Not much activity or evening atmosphere.
Beautiful location and hotel, staff hard working and all pleasant. Lovely beach attached to the hotel with great snorkelling. Four course dinner served to the table, idyllic location. First impression might be that the hotel and rooms are a little dated but ac works well, views to die for and great sleep. What’s not to like.
