The building is incredible, the views are beautiful, and the grounds are absolutely stunning. The pool was perfect, the food was very good, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Great location and a truly memorable stay. We would happily come back!

An absolutely wonderful stay! Our stay at Pousada Mosteiro Amares was absolutely incredible! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beautiful historic monastery, the stunning surroundings, and the peaceful atmosphere. The property is truly special and offers a unique experience that we will never forget. Everything was wonderful, from the charming rooms and beautiful grounds to the overall ambiance. It was the perfect place to relax, unwind, and soak in the beauty of Portugal. The setting is breathtaking, and staying in such a historic and beautifully preserved building made the experience even more memorable. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the entire stay felt special from beginning to end. We honestly could not have asked for a better experience. If you are visiting the Gerês area, do yourself a favor and stay here! It is a true gem, and we would absolutely love to return. Highly recommended! ❤️

нам все дуже сподобалося, жити в такому старому монастирі це неймовірно. Скоріше за все я б це помешкання роздивлялась на добу, дві не більше, бо мабуть сумновато, але хоч на добу це того варто , будемо проїздом обов'язково ще зупинимося.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The setting was absolutely beautiful first of all with gorgeous views from the bedroom. The staff were wonderfully friendly - especially the gentleman at reception who checked us in (apologies do not have his name!) as well as the lovely restaurant staff. The breakfast was amazing - fresh papaya was lovely in particular as was dinner - we loved the cake dessert buffet! The rooms were clean, beautiful as well. And in particular it was the small touches - the water and fruit in the room, the remembering of giving a bit of cake in my daughters room when she asked, etc etc.

Se trata de un edificio precioso, atendido por un personal súper amable. El desayuno es fantástico y su restaurante a la carta, donde comimos y cenamos varias veces, respeta un producto de calidad y una cocina tradicional y sencilla.

Considero que la parte del alojamiento necesita una buena remodelación, los baños están muy obsoletos y las habitaciones mejorables para un hotel de esta categoría.

La literie n'est pas du tout confortable. On se réveille l'un, l'autre et l'on dort très mal.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. C'était un cadeau pour l'anniversaire de ma maman et elle a été enchantée. L’accueil a été particulièrement chaleureux et nous avons été vraiment gâtés. Le lieu est somptueux, avec un cadre historique exceptionnel et beaucoup de charme. Le fait de séjourner dans un ancien lieu monastique donne une atmosphère toute particulière à l’expérience. La chambre et la salle de bain sont très agréables et tout était très propre. Le calme du lieu est également très appréciable. Le petit déjeuner était très bien, avec tout ce qu’il faut pour bien commencer la journée. Une très belle expérience, dans un endroit plein d’histoire et de sérénité. Nous recommandons vivement !

Les chambres sont certes un peu petites, mais cela s’explique parfaitement puisqu’il s’agissait à l’origine de chambres de moines.

Heerlijke plek. Mooie kamer met prachtig uitzicht, prima restaurant en bar. Veel te doen in de omgeving. Maar vooral het complex is heel bijzonder.

Nossa estadia na Pousada Mosteiro de Amares foi excelente. O hotel está instalado em um antigo mosteiro muito bem preservado, com uma arquitetura belíssima e uma atmosfera única. As acomodações são confortáveis e toda a propriedade é muito bem cuidada. Gostaria de destacar também o atendimento do Sr. Sérgio, na recepção, que foi extremamente cordial, prestativo e nos auxiliou em tudo o que precisamos durante a estadia. Uma experiência que superou nossas expectativas. Recomendo sem hesitar para quem deseja conhecer a região do Gerês com conforto, história e excelente hospitalidade.

Outstanding staff service who went above and beyond, coupled with excellent food.

This is a very special hotel located within a monastery, redesigned blending historical elements with modern interior design. Very sophisticated and special place that feels like staying in a place that you would usually do sightseeing in. Can easily spend a day or more to relax within the building and the grounds, play billiard, spend time in the pool or read a book in the courtyard. Very good breakfast and dinner. Rooms are modern and beds are comfortable.

The room was a bit small and the hotel is on the expensive side, especially if you choose to have dinner there.

Hotellet uppfyllde helt våra förväntningar. Stillhet, tystnad och doften av träd och nyklippt gräs är det enda som omger dig. Hotellet har allt som behövs för att du ska känna dig bekväm. Personalen (Antonio, Carolina och Jacinta) är mycket trevliga och hjälpsamma med allt du behöver.

Die Aussicht vom Zimmer / Badezimmer direkt in die umliegenden Berge. Die ganze Klosteranlage mit Terrassen, Garten und speziellem Pool. Ausgesprochen freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal (Rezeption und Restaurant). Riesiges Frühstücksbuffet und tolles Restaurant. Ideal gelegen für Ausflüge/Wanderungen im Nationalpark Peneda-Gerês.

The property was absolutely stunning. It perfectly preserves the peaceful aura of the former monastery into a modern treasure. The staff was so accommodating and helpful at any given time. Very lovely people in a beautiful location. The hikes around the area are amazing with beautiful waterfalls and Roman ruins.

Schlicht und edel gehaltene Ausstattung, die dem alten, würdevollen Gemäuer und der schönen Parkanlage nicht die Schau stiehlt. Der von Eichen umsäumte ovale, große Pool ist ein Idyll. Sehr schöne Atmosphäre, auch auf der Terrasse. Gutes Frühstück und Abendessen.

Die Isolierung des Fensters hat nicht die Verkehrsgeräusche abgeschirmt, dafür war das Fenster jedoch wunderbar groß und bot eine schöne Aussicht. Die Straße durch das kleine Dorf, entlang des Hotels war zum Glück auch nicht stark befahren, insbesondere in der Nacht nicht.

Lamentamos ter passado apenas uma noite neste hotel, pois é magnífico em todos os sentidos. Os funcionários são muito atenciosos e acolhedores (um agradecimento especial à Diana, uma jovem rececionista (estagiária?), que nos mostrou o hotel enquanto falava connosco em francês! Muito obrigada mais uma vez, Diana, e muito sucesso na sua carreira). O tempo parece ter parado neste mosteiro, renovado com muito bom gosto e habilidade.

Beautiful scenic location, very well renovated hotel that still managed to keep the historic value and texture.

There are not many food options around as it's in a rural location, so you often have to eat at the hotel restaurant. The (included) breakfast was delicious and fresh, but we found the dinner options were a bit overpriced and sometimes lackluster.

Cet établissement a un vrai charme, ce qui est rare. Le passé est présent, mais c'est parce que l'architecte Eduardo Souto de Moura s'en est occupé. C'est un franc succès de voir cette cohabitation entre un bâtiment du Moyen Âge ayant servi la religion et l'approche d'un grand architecte. La pierre, le bois, le verre et l'art sont en concert pour nous faire vivre une expérience unique à la limite du Parc national de Gérès. L'équipe sur place est formidable. Pour l’équipement des chambres, il faut se préparer à découvrir ce que l’architecte dans les années 90 a trouvé de mieux ; c’est passionnant.

Pequeno almoço perfeitamente adequado a este nível de hotel. A localização muito boa. Os espaços da pousada e os jardins envolventes são muito relaxantes e muito inseridos na natureza local.

Parece-me que o colchão da cama já estava um pouco usado demais, no sentido de que já não acomodava tão bem o corpo.

Stunning place to stay with a real sense of history. Amazed by the scale of it - it was a 5 minute walk to breakfast from our room! Our room was comfortable with beautiful views. Staff were so helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Gardens and pool area were also wonderful.

As the renovations had taken place in the 90s, some of the decor was a little tired. Plus there are some very noisy frogs in the pond at night! Didn’t detract from our fabulous stay though and would definitely return.

Prachtige locatie en schitterend verbouwd. Het restaurant is spectaculair qua locatie en het ontbijt is heel goed. Ook het personeel is erg vriendelijk.

Er viel niet echt iets tegen. Met alle ruimte die er over is zou een gym een goede aanvulling zijn. Daarnaast zijn er geen koffie / thee faciliteiten op de kamer of gemeenschappelijk.

Tivemos uma estadia absolutamente memorável nesta pousada. Ficámos apenas uma noite, mas foi suficiente para perceber o quão especial este lugar é. Desde o momento da chegada fomos recebidos com enorme simpatia e disponibilidade. Explicaram-nos a história do espaço, o que tornou tudo ainda mais interessante. Ao longo da estadia, toda a equipa foi impecável, sempre pronta a ajudar em tudo o que fosse necessário. Um destaque especial para o Manuel Vieira, que nos acompanhou mais de perto e foi extraordinário em todos os aspetos: atencioso, profissional e sempre disponível. O quarto, um antigo dormitório de monges, era muito confortável e estava equipado com todas as comodidades necessárias. O pequeno-almoço, servido na antiga cozinha do mosteiro, também não desiludiu: muito variado e com produtos de grande qualidade. Relativamente à localização, mesmo ao lado do Gerês para quem prefere natureza mas a menos de 30 min de Braga para completar a viagem com história e cultura! Em resumo: um lugar incrível, com uma arquitetura única, mas acima de tudo com uma equipa excecional que faz toda a diferença. Sem dúvida, queremos repetir!

What a wonderful experience staying in an old monastery!! The restoration work was carried out by one of Portugal 's most famous architects and one could clearly see the attention to detail.

The cloisters where I could sit and read my book with a glass of wine. The restaurant, the meal was excellent. The staff who were welcoming and friendly. The bed was comfortable.

The coffee at breakfast was horrible.

The old monastery has been very tastefully converted. Our room was functional and comfortable rather than luxurious, but the setting is stunning. All the staff members we encountered were exceptionally helpful and friendly. A truly unforgettable experience.

A pousada é lindíssima e localiza-se numa área calma e tranquila, ótima para descansar. As vistas são de cortar a respiração e tudo o que se ouve é natureza. Os espaços decorados de uma forma minimalista que realça o imponência do edifício, e a combinação da arquitetura moderna com a sobriedade medieval do mosteiro trazem um contraste ponderado mas conseguem agregar conforto e vida num espaço que tipicamente vemos vazio, inóspito. Queríamos há muito visitar o mosteiro de Amares e iremos certamente voltar.

The food could have been better

The architectural harmony between the historic monastery and modern design was masterful, particularly the delicate lighting and fixtures. The peaceful atmosphere and the high-quality meals also made this a truly significant and memorable stay.

Everything was wonderful and I have no complaints. If I must say something, the location is quite secluded, but that peacefulness is exactly what makes this property so unique and special.
