Reviewed Dec 3, 2025This is a friendly and perfectly located hotel in the centre of the old walled town. The staff could not be more helpful. My room was recently decorated in a cool modern style. Comfortable bed. I needed to work in the day time and the room was nice and quiet which was good. Breakfast was a really nice selection of items and a couple of hot options included. I’m not a fan of coffee from the machines but that is the norm now. Some very good herbal tea, loose leaves available as well at breakfast.

Reviewed Aug 26, 2025The area was very central however hotel itself is overpriced. Dining area is small and stuffy and the breakfast is not good. Food has been standing out for quite some time. Disappointing overall wouldn’t stay there again.

Reviewed Aug 7, 2025Hotel Cartier was perfect for our family of three. The hotel feels newly renovated with modern design choices and clever finishes. We stayed in their largest room and everyone enjoyed a modest double bed. The AC worked really well and the bathroom was very large. The location is convenient and everything is within a 3-5 minute walk. The staff were friendly and helpful. Check in and checkout was very smooth. I’d highly recommend staying at this hotel when visiting Saint Malo.
Enkelt rent hotell midt i gamlebyen, derfor en del støy fra gata. Noe små rom.

Mon séjour était vraiment très agréable.
Son emplacement est très bien situé, mais je n'étais pas gêné par le bruit a l'extérieur.

Reviewed Jun 8, 2025Ideally situated small, friendly hotel in old walled town yet just minutes from bus hub,ferries to Dinard & beyond as well as beautiful beaches. We were able to easily visit many lovely places by public transport from this base. Very helpful staff. Comfortable & stylish room,tasty/varied breakfast. Soundproof windows were effective, as this is situated in a popular area,with many shops & cafés also street sweeper machines at work early mornings. None of this affected our good night's sleep! Very happy with our stay!

Ett mycket bra hotell mitt i centrum. Nära till allt. Det som störde var städningen på gatorna tidigt på morgonen. Frukosten var super. Mycket att välja på och väldigt fräscht. Frukosten var en höjdpunkt på dagen.

We have been to saint malo, maybe 10 times, always stayed at the Ibis hotel and liked it, but as we were booking a trip, 2 double rooms for 2 nights in may, to celebrate my mothers 80th birthday, the price was unreasonable high, so we started looking for an alternative.
We knew of hotel Cartier, from passing, the price was good and we knew, we liked the location already, so ended up booking here.
The hotel was refurbished a year ago, styling carried out by the beautiful furniture store across the road, very stylish, exactly like in the photos!
We liked it here a lot, the team working here were all super nice, especially Valerie! My god this stylish woman always seemed to be at work, ready to assist and advise, also worth a mention is the kind and bobbly lady working in the breakfast area, sorry didn’t get her name, but together with Valerie, she made the place run like clockwork, yet keeping it smooth running and personal.
My husband straight away wanted to stay here next time, I was sceptical of the price, but it turned out when looking up prices, pretty much always to be cheaper then Ibis, so better, more stylish, cheaper, bigger bathrooms and even nicer staff, means that Cartier from now on, is our preferred place to stay in this mind blowing city!

Per chi desidera soggiornare a Saint-Malo intra-muros, l’hotel è comodissimo vista la vicinanza con l’ingresso di Port Saint-Vincent (2 minuti a piedi).
La struttura è recentissima, arredata in stile moderno e pulitissima.

Reviewed Sep 4, 2023The hotel is perfectly located within the walls of the old city. It is clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee in the rooms and friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was better than I expected, with some hot food, as well as a large selection of continental items. Well worth a visit.
Loved staying here. Very small and minimalist but we didn’t expect more, given the location. Easy walk from nearest parking, and all the stunning sites of St Malo. Lovely friendly attentive staff. Surprisingly quiet when windows closed (had aircon).
Would happily stay again.

Reviewed Aug 4, 2023Hotel Cartier is located in the middle of the Ville Clos so ideal for exploring the old town. Staff were friendly and check in / out was made easy by online form filling. Our room was comfortable with an outside balcony, adequate seating and tea making facilities. The buffet breakfast in the basement was excellent value – all one could want, cold and hot. Not cheap, but not bad value given that we were in the centre of a tourist town in the height of the tourist season. Recommended.

Reviewed Jun 30, 2020j'ai réservé deux chambres une avec 2 lits jumeaux et une avec grand lit. Sur place, les deux chambres étaient identiques. Quand j'ai demandé de changer de chambre pour avoir un grand lit, la réponse du directeur : les deux lits sont mis côte à côte c'est la même chose, de toute façon il n'y a pas de chambre disponible....
De plus, il semble qu'aucun contrôle n'est fait : couette sale, fuite d'eau, équipement manquant ...
Le directeur a été informé et il ne s'est même pas excusé

Reviewed May 26, 2019It was interesting to stay in the wall of the Fort. The parking was free overnight, which was a nice surprise. It is a convenient location, close to grocery store, easy to drive in and out of. Room was rather cramped but clean.

Reviewed Aug 29, 2018We had a very good experience at this three star hotel over the August Bank holiday.
The room was light and airy and the staff very friendly.
The only downside was the road sweeper which arrived about 6.45 am every morning to clean the square outside which woke us up. Wasn't a problem for us as we were able to go back to sleep but it's something to be aware of. Clearly the hotel can't do anything about this.
Hotel in the middle of the old town near restaurants, bars and major sights. Rooms were small but clean, very friendly and helpful staff.

Reviewed Nov 10, 2014We stayed here for one night before catching the boat back to Portsmouth. The location is fantastic, right near the middle of the Intra-Muros area, and no more than 5 minutes walk from anywhere in the walls.
The hotel is lovely, modern and well kept. The room was comfortable, and there wasn't any problem with street noise from the second floor.

Reviewed Oct 11, 2014The hotel was well located inside the walls of old St Malo. That is about all you can say about it. The rooms are beyond small compared to NA hotels and most of Eorope. The shower was a joke a 10 year old skinny kid might be able to turn around in it but I doubt it.

The hotel provided bike storage in a room by reception on the ground floor which was secure so this provided great peace of mind and convenience.

Reviewed Apr 20, 2013Very helpful staff, great location next to a plethora of shops and restaurants. The city was very quiet at this time of year which we liked. Didn't get to spend a great deal of time because we arrived late at night and left the next morning. Note since US credit and debit cards don't use the smart card system yet we had issues using cards at locations like the car park next to the water. Will definitely stay ther again !

Plenty of parking close to the walls that only cost 1.40 euro a night.

Reviewed Oct 19, 2010THE CARTIER HOTEL-VERY CLEAN-FRIENDLY STAFF-GREAT LOCATION FOR BARS AND RESTURANTS.
A friend and I arrived in mid September after a week in Paris...it was pouring rain on arrival so it was great that from St Vincent gates where the bus dropped us off we were only a four minute walk away. central abnd surrounded by lovely shops and restaurants. You MUST try the Ker-Y -Pomme pastries...wow..amazing...also the Caramel Buerre Sale crepes!!! The caramel beurre sale is particular to the Britanny region..as are the Ker-Y -Pomme pastry. You have to try the oysters!!!! Anyway a great time there...plenty of things to eat and drink! ( try the Muscatel with seafood or the Britaany cider) Nice little hotel...quiet and comfortable...however the shower could have been cleaner. Friendly staff too!!

Reviewed Sep 24, 2010The hotel itself is small "but perfectly formed", the staff were exceptionally helpful and spoke excellent English. The rooms are quite compact but very comfortable and my room requests were all met. We had a small balcony overloooking the street, which was very nice. Facilities in the room were good, and the beds comfortable. We didn't have breakfast but it looked delicious and was reasonably priced. Overall this was a great choice for a short stay in St Malo, and we would definitely stay again when we go back. There are loads of restaurants in close proximity for evening meals and lunches. The hotel was better than I expected for the cost, so good value too.

The double is too small for two people and the continental breakfast was very much over priced for what was available. Otherwise the room was comfortable just wished that the bed was bigger and the breakfast should be cheaper as was not included in price
