A beautiful peaceful setting in the mountains. The architecture is inspired. Breakfast was delicious and great options. Staff were dedicated and helpful throughout.
Visited at a very quiet time, only a few other guests. Made it slightly eerie, albeit peaceful. The pools were closed (which I was informed in advance) We were two couples travelling and booked two king rooms. We were placed in a sort of standalone “house” with 3 x king rooms and a shared living/kitchen space. It would have been quite awkward if the third room had other guests. The kitchen also had zero utensils/cutlery/crockery which was odd.
Location is beautiful
Rooms, at least assigned to us, were a bit worn out but not uncomfortable
Mooie ligging
Enkel buitenzwembad
I got upgraded but that was thanks to booking.com app
Staff were polite before taking my money, after they didn’t help with bags leaving the room, open car doors for customers, we were hungry after 8:30pm staff told me there’s no food to buy I had to literally tell them we’re in the mountains I can’t get food, after 10 minutes of arguing the point they told me they can make basic food…… won’t go back
The location is beautiful. The grounds are well maintained and pleasure to explore. Interesting mix of architecture.
Lodge capacity was stretched. Didn't realise as a guest you had to make reservations to get into the restaurant so had to eat in the town the first night. However the hotel took us there in the shuttle and made an excellent recommendation so the night was a success.
Location.
The staff was amazing, personally drove me to the Great Wall and picked me up. I am so thankful

Very good and nice location Staff and the management treated as well Very cooperative and convenient safe place to stay with family.
Breakfast
The location and the architecture was amazing. The staff was very polite and attentive, specially the Duty Manager Frank, he help us with everything we needed and made our stay more pleasant. Overall we were very happy with our stay.
I found this accommodation in the book 501 Great Places to Stay when it was still run by Kempinski. The location is ideal for visits to both the Badaling (night visit) and Shuiguan (day visit) sections of the Great Wall. We stayed in the Bamboo section with clean and comfortable rooms in a unique style and the hotel arranged twin beds for the children who were able to stay in an adjoining room. The outstanding staff member Lee Li went beyond the call of duty in PERSONALLY arranging tickets at NIGHT to the Badaling section of the Great Wall including the taxi to / from the hotel. This was a major highlight of our entire trip to China but without Lee Li's assistance we would have missed it as not otherwise arranged by the Hotel. The Hotel's breakfast was very enjoyable with superb food catering for International tourists like ourselves. The morning shuttle to the Shuiguan section was on time and the timings provided sufficient time to see the Wall and travel to central Beijing with a stop off at the Ming Tombs on the way. If you are travelling directly to Commune by the Wall from Daxing Airport, expect a taxi drive of just under 2 hrs / 125 kms, a fare of 425 Yuan.
The staff member at our check-in was very poor and out of his depth. He incorrectly told us that the Great Wall had closed at 16:30 and could only be seen the next day at 09:00 with the hotel shuttle. This information was WRONG as a night visit was possible but required a local taxi. Fortunately, we did not accept his information and after searching found out that the Badaling section was open at night and turned out to be spectacular. We returned to reception to question the closure at 16:30 and were duly assisted by the excellent staff member Lee Li. Our stay would have been completely spoiled if we had not returned to reception and spoken to Lee Li as the night visit is UNMISSABLE. The pool area had neither food nor beverage service but this was possibly linked to the time of our arrival in the late afternoon. The view from the pool was not the same as I had seen in the book 501 Great Places to Stay - possible due to plant growth over the years since publication.
location and the trek for the Great Wall
no facilities available, food/drinks selection poor
I live in Beijing for 15 years, and I always heard of Commune as a piece of art, but with low management. With Hyatt, I was expecting for nice improvement. In fact, the houses are wonderful, really superb architecture work with the very nice concept of four rooms by unit, and a huge and wonderfully designed common space. It’s like having a 200sqm suite. The grounds are well kept are cleanliness is very good. We had the chance to stay in Bamboo Wall, perfectly designed. With a lot of luggage, you can find space for everything. it was like staying in a museum, but a super comfy one. thanks Mr Kenzo Kuma… Restaurant is very good, a little expensive, but it’s normal in 5 stars place and staff very professional. Breakfast buffet is nice and fresh. Private access to the Great Wall is very enjoyable.
BUT…. The pool was closed…. Excuse was Covid…We were informed IMMEDIATELY after booking that we need to show our HealthKit and 72 hours negative PCR test, but no one ever mentioned that the pool was closed. Seen the deep green color and the condition of the loungers, it was not open for more than a year. One of my choice to go there was the outdoor swimming pool:( The air conditioning was not working properly in the room. At our arrival, we had 23C, but at the time of going to bed, probably 29C. The contrôler was broken. It was replaced immediately, but the temperature never get down 26C during the night. The next day, We mentioned it to the reception, and some engineer came to say that everything was normal. After complaining several times, in the beginning of the afternoon, temperature went down to 23C. But again, in the evening, back to 26C. We were asking for a fan…. When you pay 2000 RMB for the room only on middle of summer….Every motel around offer better service. When we checked out, the receptionist after our complaints saw the manager on duty that offer us two bottles of red Chili basic wine and the promise of upgrade to a suite in case I come back. But he never came to apologize and the promise is only verbal, no voucher, no email… it’s a very good way, for both engineer and management to ignore and get rid of the problem. I find it arrogant and insulting. I thought that Hyatt was giving serious training about client service. This is not the case… Three of my patients and potential clients living in Beijing for very long asked me already in the next days, what I think about the place, and they think this is in unacceptable. I was planning to stay an extra night eventually, but in these conditions, no way. Will you be back ? Maybe, but never in summer, and if management acts better.
Impressive room, fine food and service
My booking was lost, but hotel solved it by giving a room till they solved the problem. It took over an hour to check in. Restaurant is great, staff did their best. Beijing duck and pleasant wines for an ok budget. House atmo was very pleasant, corridor in cellar to room had unpleasant smell. Pools had not opened. Kids club was still closed, this I found out locally. No mentioning by booking. This is one of the first hotels on walking distance I found to visit the wall. I give it a second chance.
The hotel is nice and we generally enjoyed our experience but there were 2 large parties there with a band so it spoilt in my opinion the ambience of the hotel
We stayed one night at the Commune. Wow. What a project. I was stunned and taken in by the amazing architecture and design elements. The staff were really great. Everything was taken care of. Our otherwise delightful room in Chalet 1 had a strange odour of water stuck in pipes or sewerage. This bothered my travelling companion more so than I. The walk around to the wall was beautiful, even in the rain. And the whole setting was serene and otherworldly. While others had expressed concern at the service level of the hotel, I found it to be appropriate. Everyone was quite friendly and extremely helpful. And the restaurants were better and better priced than we had anticipated. I do so hope that they maintain the buildings and furnishings in the hotel. IT is truly a unique project, and I would recommend it to lovers of modern architecture, design and people who enjoy China and the Chinese experience.
It's a beautiful hotel, great location on the mountains and with access to a private section of the great wall. Some areas need a bit more upkeep, but in general its a great place. Great for designers/architects, every house is designed by renowned architects.
Can be very hard to find. the entrance off the expressway is no signposted and the website does not give the phone no.of the hotel
The buildings at the Commune are amazing. Stunning, sleek and airy architecture complimented with perfect lighting and top notch service.Being the only ones walking along the wall is a memorable experience. For the high standards of rooms and service the price is more than worth it. An excellent weekend away escaping the hustle and bustle of Beijing. The hotel has a pool, a few choice places for dining, a gorgeous yet a bit pricey spa, and a kid's play centre. Waking up to overlooking the wall was an absolute highlight of the whole China trip.
