Provider-sourced guest reviews.
In fairness, I think it was good (rather than excellent). My room was clean. The sheets on the bed were good quality, although I chose initially to sleep on top of the bed as it was a hot night. The shower was good. The breakfast was very good. All of the staff that I dealt with were very polite.
The room was incredibly hot. I ended up having to lie on the floor beside the window to get some fresh air. However, what we were most disappointed that on our evening, at the hotel public bar and also within the hotel, as hotel guests (4 of us) when we requested a drink well in advance of 11pm closing time, we were declined as they said the bar was shut and our evening was prematurely concluded without ceremony. We explained that we were staying at the hotel but they still said no (and we were not intoxicated). Very, very disappointed.
We stayed in room 24 . i asked my partner to marry me on the balcony, with that wonderful view And she said yes .
The hotel was beautiful, food was lovely, friendly staff and great location.
There wasn't anything to dislike.
Great location and a lovely breakfast.
Rooms were very hot including the breakfast area.
Location, Breakfast, Lovely Building
Room was very rundown & outdated for the price charged
The hotel is in a great location, the breakfast was amazing, and the staff were excellent. We also really liked the overall decor and atmosphere of the hotel.
We wish we had been told in advance that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment, as the scaffolding was very visible (took up our entire view) and affected the overall experience. We also felt the bedding could have been better prepared for summer, as sleeping was not as comfortable as it could have been.
Excellent location in the heart of Sandwich
Nothing
The breakfast room was nice and clean. I needed to move to another bedroom, when I got there. The bedroom reserved for me was too small. The manager quickly put in another room, without any hesitation.
I had the English Breakfast, the food was nice but not hot enough for me.
From the minute we arrived, Jay was very welcoming, attentive, fun & accommodating. Our room was perfect, with the riverside view as requested. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in the sunshine prior to going for dinner. We have stayed here before & would definitely stay again.
Although the breakfast was very tasty, we had to wait just over half an hour after ordering for it to arrive. The staff were friendly & apologetic but as a heads up, if there is going to be a long wait, perhaps advise residents when they order. Worth the wait though.
Good location close to Royal St George and Central to Sandwich!
Kitchen closes quite early even on weekdays
Tap was lose and worked the wrong way. Carpet had stains. Room needed updating
Beautiful hotel, staff friendly ,helpful and efficient.
Friendly staff, very helpful. Excellent food, lots of choice for breakfast.
Car parking, luckily we did get a space.
Le personnel était très serviable. On est arrivé très tard le soir et reparti tôt le matin. On nous a préparé un petit sac avec des croissants pr manger en route. C était super sympa. Le village est très joli et l'hôtel est vraiment beau et confortable.
Lovely historic hotel great location, lovely staff clean facilities and generous breakfast
Too hot in the rooms in summer needs air con a fan was provided but the room was like a hot box
Great historic building, friendly staff
Boiling hot. Even hotter in the bedrooms than rest of hotel or outside and safety locks mean you can only open windows an inch. Very uncomfortable and sleeping was miserable.
Excellent location. Inside and outside eating areas was great and the food and breakfast was excellent! Very enjoyable stay.
Great location. Everything you need! Lovely rooms! Friendly helpful staff!
Breakfast was very good
Room was pretty basis, had no view at all from the window as the window was blocked off!
Good location for exploring Sandwich and local area!
Felt a bit dated! Stayed during heatwave and was hard to cool room! Fan was ok
location cleanliness and staff
nothing
Location excellent and great sun terrace
Poor breakfast….. quality and and speed/accuracy of service needs to be improved
We loved everything about the hotel and would stay there again, staff were excellent and location brilliant
Nonething
Really lovely oldey worldy B&B, very friendly staff, central location. Great room, comfortable bed, delicious breakfast.
Service was very good, breakfast was excellent and bed was clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful over parking in nearby public car park. Close to the golf club, Royal St George’s
The room was small and very hot - no air conditioning. Window didn’t open very far. Old fashioned decor throughout. Only 4 parking places
A very pleasant and comfortable stay. A great location for seeing the town and the local area. The room (looking out over the river) was spacious and with a good bathroom. Clean and tidy and quiet.
The building has charm and character but is let down by a ‘worn out’ feel. It’s ready for a refurb - by professionals! For example, the carpet on the main staircase is a complete disaster! The staff were uniformly polite and helpful. Breakfast was good (although coffee served in a teapot was a surprise!). Parking was easy (nearby carpark) but very limited on site.
Perfect location for access to town and walks. Lovely room overlooking the river.
Limited parking but not really an issue as nearby car park available and good rates from hotel
Our 5th time staying at The Bell Hotel. Great location by the Quay, friendly staff and good food. Comfortable bedrooms and we had a balcony which was a bonus!
The bedrooms are comfortable and clean but feel the on suite shower could do with an upgrade, slow running luke warm water and quite a bit of mould on the tiles and grubby skirting boards. The shower was difficult to turn off and dripped for a while after using. The hot tap on the sink was also loose.
Breakfast service took an age Rooms had faults - taps not working in bathroom and broken window blinds
Good location, friendly staff, good bar/restaurant, rooms good. Interesting historical town.
Hotel parking small, although public parking very close.
Lovely old place in a lovely village. Clean and bright. Friendly staff. Great breakfast.
A lot of stairs so would be difficult for people with mobility issues.
Centrally located and staff were great
Nothing
Helpful staff. Good breakfast. Excellent evening meal.
Room was rather small given what the cost per night is
Lovely property in great location but unfortunately it was very hot and we had an awful problem with the food on the first night we stayed so never ate there again during our 3 night stay……
Beautiful building in a lovely spot
The Bell Hotel is beautiful and in the heart of sandwich, the staff were super friendly and the breakfast was fab. The room was super spacious and was very modern
The room was incredibly hot, granted we are in the middle of a heat wave however could have done with either an extra fan or portable air conditioning... the hall ways were humid and stuffy...would have been good to open the windows a little more than 2 inches
Location room view dining
No lift little parking
Friendly staff great location easy parking
Hotel room are tired and could do with modernising especially the bathrooms which are clean but with poor showers and ventilation, the rooms were hot even with the fan supplied which made sleeping difficult, the bar shut at 2200 in Sunday even for residents which was disappointing as it cut short our time with friends!!
The breakfast was lovely. All the staff were helpful and kind. The hotel is in a great location.
The upstairs of the hotel and our room was very tired looking and our room small. It was disappointing considering the cost of the room for one night, it sadly did not meet our expectations.
Good location and service
Room was unbelievably hot and had trouble sleeping.
Great location next to the river. Decent bar which also makes a nice coffee during the day. Good breakfast included, all was cooked well and a large choice on the menu. Room was a good size and was clean.
We stayed during a heat wave in a deluxe river view room, which was on the third floor. This was really hot with no air con in the room. There was a fan but all this did was blow hot air around. Being on the third floor the windows could only be opened slightly due to safety. This made for a very hot night. Tea and coffee proceeded in the room but had to go to reception to ask for milk, nowhere to store this in the room.
Friendly staff, great breakfast, clean, lovely setting
No air conditioning in room. Too hot to sleep!
Restaurangen och baren, samt personalen
Inte underhållet och oerhört varmt i rummen som saknar AC
Location
Only 1 small towel supplied, disappointed with the service & not worth the £££!
Central location, friendly staff, spacious room with great view of the river. Welcoming restaurant with local specialties. Breakfast staff helped us with an early start- Thank you.
Evening waiting staff a little chaotic.
Lovely hotel in the centre of Sandwich. Would recommend
The flower boxes outside the hotel were empty and would make the property look much better if they were full of flowers
The Bell Hotel is in a lovely location, room was very clean and comfortable, food was very nice and staff very accommodating.
Nothing, everything was lovely.
Great location
Shower was poor Not very powerful Breakfast wasn’t all that
Wonderful location
Very shabby accommodation and overpriced for the condition of the bedroom and bathroom
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The location is beautiful and calm, the breakfast was really good and the room was spacious, bright, comfortable and cosy.
Greet hotel, restaurant evening meal and breakfast were really nice - very friendly and helpful staff.
N/A
I have stopped at the hotel on a number of occasions, can't always get a room as fully booked which says alot about the place. Its rated as 3 * which I believe to be a fair rating however the staff are friendly and the restaurant/bar is excellent.
Nothing bad to report,
A comfortable bed. There was a small balcony with a large french window opening out onto it. This provided some ventilation during the very hot weather (30 degrees C). Good size shower. Pleasant dining room. Good breakfast. Wide menu choice for dinner, which was very tasty (Fried squid and Caesar's Salad) with a good wine list and plenty of choice of beers.
No air conditioning which made sleeping difficult in 30+ degrees. No lift makes life difficult if you have heavy bags to carry upstairs. Car parking is very limited at the hotel. Nearby public car park can be busy and result in a long walk from the hotel.
Our greeting at reception was friendly, we was very early for check in, but said they will get it sorted early for us. The position over the river was good, very clean. Evening meal was lovely, evening staff very friendly, stopped to chat with you.
Breakfast was a bit poor, poached eggs was hard. Staff there was only 2, running around doing everything, but as they gave you a pot of tea, they run off, i asked for a clean cup and she was gone, i asked for vinegar, they didn't hear us as they was rushing away. I thought this was very rude. It was like a comedy. We Evan tried chatting and saying are you short staff, he grinned and was gone. It gave us the hump and we left. They both where very smiley, but rude
From the manager through to cleaning staff, all were cheerful and helpful. We entered hotel by bar entrance and felt confused as to reception area, the waiter who subsequently served us in the dining area cheerfully stopped what he was doing and escorted us to reception. Becky, the manager, introduced herself to us and made sure we were well taken care of.
Mirror over bathroom sink is too high to see above the bevel border.
Good
Great sized family room - clean room and friendly staff. The location is lovely. The beds were super comfy too. All in all a very nice stay.
Breakfast on the first morning was very busy - food was super tasty, but it took quite a while to come. It felt like they were a bit understaffed on this particular morning. Breakfast on the second day was seamless.
Check in. Lovely lady, almost too happy to see us.... staff. All very good. Breakfast. Cooked fresh, and included in the price so you get value. Location. Bang by the river, if you like this area, this is perfect for it. Coffee machine, some top hotels in London you don't get this.
Very hot in the room, but we did stay during a heat wave. Not much the hotel could do about that. Was given Water at reception on arrival to take up to the room.
Friendly staff. Basic, but good price value
There was a water leak in the floor above us, causing some water into our bathroom. It was noticed and handled properly by the friendly staff.
Für einen Mann über 1,80 Meter kaum möglich, ohne mittelschwere Überschwemmung im Bad zu duschen. Die Glasabtrennung ist zu klein.
Friendly and helpful staff on arrival. The bed was ultra comfy and the room was decorated tastfully. Toiletries included were most welcome. Menu outstanding, it was hard to chose! Jay and Dannie made the restaurant experience tip top. The bar Manager made our late night tipple enjoyable and was chatty but not patronising. Have made a decision to visit again for a special occasion in the nit too distant future.
Not having booked for a longer stay!
Cosy and quiet very traditional
Some elements just needed a little bit of tlc , re painting, re grouting etc
Location, price and clean
Bathroom a little dated, but absolutely fine for the price
Very friendly staff. Wonderful building. Good food.
Facilities a bit dated and could have been a bit cleaner.
Good room, good ambience, good location.
No help with luggage up stairs. Officious night reception.
Staff super thankyou! Reception, waiting on, bar and so on. Room 41 large and clean. Walk-in shower as requested. Rooftop views. Standard price. Breakfast very good overall. Restaurant, conservatory and bar areas really inviting. Just great. Plenty of seating, both comfy chairs in large reception area and dining. Good choice of beers etc. Lunch more varied choices than the year before. So well done. Able to get 1 of the 4 parking spaces at the front of the Hotel. Location brilliant, right on the edge of the Town and by the Quay. So great walks to historic centre, shops or along the river.
Room 41 on the very top floor, tight stairs, huff and puff (no lifts). Bland decor, think someone forgot to hang pictures but the curtains were new and good quality. Shower a bit difficult to operate controls, needed "servicing"! Two doves managed to get under sash window into bedroom open a few inches, quite exciting really. Able to check them out, and they didn't lose their deposits (a quip). Poor Bloody Mary, not enough tabasco or worcestershirec sauce, no celery or celery salt,?no ice, no lemon. A cheap but expensive drink!
Location was great. Some of the staff were nice.
Not enough staff at breakfast and all guests waiting far too long for food which then arrived warm. Majority of main Staff not friendly and practically ignored guests. Extremely rude bar manager. Room basic and very tight, shower also very small. The hotel needs a lot more care and updating.
Absolutely central to Sandwich. Bar / Bistro operating most of the day with pleasant staff. Excellent breakfast and good evening menu with something for Everyone. Clean and comfortable rooms - with lovely views over the river or the ancient roof tops.
Only three free parking spaces. Nearby parking on the quay £2 / day time hour. There is no air conditioning and sun filled rooms during the day are Very Warm at night.
Prima, nett, das Frühstück war ausgezeichnet!
Room was a very good size very comfortable . Breakfast was good and the service very good .
Location, the staff, bath, facilities in bedrooom, quality of breakfast.
Parking, however there is not much ch they can do about this other than offer a reduction for those who have to pay.
So near everything.
Lovely location and river view
It was fairly basic
I stayed here with my husband for a long weekend. On arrival, the reception staff gave us a room upgrade! It made our day & the room was beautiful. We loved the view over the river.
There wasn't any negatives. The hotel was wonderful. The food was delicious & the location was ideal for walks around the village.
Food and service.
Everything was great, but the corridors felt a little unloved compared to the room and dining areas.
Good breakfast.
Convenient good location
Needs updating shower and bathroom. Not up to standards
Location, value for money . Stayed at the Bell many times never disappoints .
No parking
Great location good food 👌
Rooms are very Tatty and small
It was a beautiful hotel our room was lovely. just the stairs was a bit of a problem for me to get to my room.
One thing I think is the rooms could do with a mini fridge. And the stairs was different for me. And it’s a bit of a walk to park your car.
Charming, elegant inn, great service and location.
No complaints
Arrived about midday and asked if they would store our luggage until check in, which the 1st receptionist was very nice about. She said our room should be ready by 2pm (which we believe was the correct check in time). We went back and was told problem with housekeeping and we should go and have a drink in the bar (not complimentary). We took her advise and purchased wine, went back 40 minutes later, still not ready, we were fed up and went out again. Got a call after 4pm to tell us room was ready. We were out with friends by that time and had to come back from our get together to book in. We were upset by this, dumped our stuff and met up again. We were not told what time breakfast was, the room was the same one we stayed at before when we booked through you. Do they only have a couple of rooms they put your clients in? The reception was also busy when it came to booking out. There was a box which said ‘keys here please’ which we did. Got a message just after 11.30 to say we must vacate the room by 11 which we did. When i notice the message some hours later i called and asked what they needed. She said the key, i told her it was in the box and she replied “oh yeah, thanks”.
Everything collected to customer care and attention, see above. Very disappointing. Hotel, breakfast and room were nice as they’ve been before but we felt unnoticed and unimportant.
1/Amazing staff. 2/ Lovely big room 3/ and comfy bed.
1/ no noise insulation from room above 2/ no secure onsite car park. 3/ no CCTV in hotel.
Lovely staff, plenty of choice in foods, nice bar and lounge areas. Dog friendly.
Bathroom needs updating.
A lovely hotel, perfectly situated for exploring Sandwich. Great breakfast and extremely helpful and kind staff.
The bathroom and some of the communal areas look a little tired.
Beautiful building in a great location
Shower room was a little dated but still clean
Good breakfast and customer service.
Shower could do with a refurb
Beautiful location. Clean, comfortable and well maintained.

The hotel is perfectly located and although there is limited parking at the front there is a pay and display CP along the road. The hotel has a good atmosphere with polite friendly staff. Our room was clean and spacious and the shower was good. The bed was comfortable but the duvet was a heavy winter one and we were quite hot and had to open the window and turn off the heating. The breakfast was very good with options for cereal/fresh fruit/croissants and fruit juice. The cooked breakfast was tasty. We also had an evening meal which was very good and excellent value and the waiter was professional and attentive. We would certainly return here, and there is plenty to see in Sandwich.
The bedroom was very warm and the duvet was heavy. Only one window partially opened.
The Bell is a lovely hotel with a spacious entrance and bar area. They have kept the old features and not tried to over modernise it into a grey cube. Breakfast was great and nothing was too much trouble for any of the team. We asked for an early check in and the were most helpful.
