Tolle Zimmer mit herrlichem Blick. Liebevolle Gastgeber. Man hat sich sofort wohlgefühlt.
Sehr nette Gastgeber, tolle, komfortable Unterkunft, sehr gutes Frühstück, toller Ausblick
Alles war perfekt
Breakfast is cooking very good!
I suggest turn off the light at the night time , if will be very good for stargazing. Not good restaurant around the hotel.
Matuka Lodge is a wonderful place to stay if you’re looking for comfort, tranquility, and genuine hospitality. The lodge is beautifully set with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The rooms are spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully designed, with comfortable beds and large windows that make the most of the scenery. Attention to detail is evident throughout, and everything feels well cared for and welcoming. The hosts were very warm and attentive and made us feel very welcome!!
Nothing we didn’t like
This is a little gem. The room, the communal space and the little extras (home made fruit cake, tea, coffee, fruit, biscuits all available to enjoy) were all perfect. What made it extra special were the team running the lodge. Guy and Jamie were not only excellent managers, they were wonderful hosts. On arrival Guy not only got us settled, he then advised us on dinner and going straight out to see Mt Cook as the weather the next day (when we had planned to go) was not good. The next day was a whole day of rain so decided to stay around the lodge to read, relax etc. Guy came over and checked we were OK and had everything we needed. Breakfast was freshly cooked, great continental too. Rooms clean, good view and comfy beds. Felt very relaxing, nice high spec, a bit of a home from home. Lovely
Nothing for us. All good, a nice surprise.
If you leave the lodge early, you can’t take a coffee or a snack with you, as taking food outside is not allowed. The rooms are very comfortable, spacious, well-equipped, clean, and offer a beautiful view. However, the bathroom is heated only by the air conditioner, and the floor is very cold.
Quiet, available amenities in common room, space outside, view (far) of mountains, possibility of storing food in common fridge
Service a bit slow, small TV in room, no fridge and coffee/tea making in (small) room
Everything: the view from the room, the breakfast, the sky at night, how comfortable and huge the room was. It is as good as other reviews say!
Honestly nothing
Location, views, accommodations, and the hosts.
It was all good.
L’emplacement La vue La gentillesse du gérant
This Lodge is a true gem! You can tell that the host put love in every detail :) I would highly recommend a stay here if you are looking for a trough and trough luxuries experience!
Lovely lodge in a gorgeous setting
The views were absolutely stunning and guy was a fantastic host. Thank you for the lovely breakfast.
The bathrooms are quite dated and a hot tub outside would have been incredible for the price we paid. Nonetheless thank you.
Fantastic stay and our host, Guy was top notch. Breakfast was made to order and delicious. It deserves a five star rating across the board. Thank you!
We had such a lovely, relaxing time at Matuka Lodge. Luxury accommodation with a family vibe, so friendly and welcoming. Everything was wonderful, highly recommend this gem!
Guy was a wonderful host, made a great fruitcake. The honor bar was nice after a day of riding bicycle. A convenient location to the Alps to Ocean cycle trail with very clean accommodations and a great breakfast.
room was very nice good view from the room
Breakfast was vey poor Oily food Not even the hash browns were home made.no home made jams very little fruit. Breakfast a great disappointment
A great foundation for the nearby Mount Cook area as well as adjacent to the Pelennor Fields battle scene from LOTR The Return of the King. Delicious breakfast, easy parking, very clean, lovely area and spacious extremely comfortable rooms. Six stars!
A lovely place, the rooms are beautiful and well maintained, our room was on the banks of a small lake with a great view, Mel, the landlady, is nice and makes every effort to make you feel good.Very recommended!!
Beautiful tranquil location with amazing views. Staff friendly and accommodating.
Rooms too close together and poor sound quality. Keep awake from heater in next door bathroom.
Location, location, location and the team that run. Especially the amazing Mel. The view from our suite was off the chart!
Nothing
Breakfast menu covered the usual items, with additional cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juice. We enjoyed the shared table experience with other guests.
While initially, I expected tea facilities to be in room, the alternative of a shared tea room with homemade fruit cake and biscuits plus, was great.
Lovely rooms overlooking duck pond with Mount cook views. Very friendly host. Delicious breakfast. Great lounge with cake cookies and fruit all day. A first class operation
Nothing at all
Very clean and beautiful location. Breakfast was amazing. Mark and Mel were excellent hosts.
Mel was an excellent host.. great fun and very accommodating. Property has a lovely outlook and felt like home
Nothing
Outstanding stay. Mel made us feel like we were in our home away from home! Fantastic accommodations…
The hosts & the beautiful comfortable room with amazing views !!! Also the delicious home cooked breakfast & their service was impeccable !!! Just wish we could have stayed longer . Will definitely recommend to family & friends in the future
Nothing
This place was an absolute gem, as were the hosts. I felt like I'd come home. The property is stunning with mountain views and a duck pond. The room was lovely. The common area was cozy and a wonderful place to unwind. I only wish I stayed longer.
Breakfast was superb, accommodation and fact were first class. View was amazing. The hosts were welcoming and informative. This place has everything.
Nothing to dislike
Exceptional. Great location. Great room, very clean and well presented. Everything considered by Mel and Mark. Very friendly hosts and easy to get on with. Great breakfast and lovely genuine warmth to the welcome and in the lodge. Would definitely return and would stay longer. No complaints at all
Nothing
If we could give a higher rating, we would. One of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. Super warm and homey with an incredibly tranquil view. Delicious breakfast and an ultra clean room.
The location and the view. The hosts were great. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The view how clean it was and the breakfast.
Una casa de campo sumamente acogedora. La propietaria, Mel, es muy hospitalaria. Habitaciones confortables con vista a un hermoso lago natural. Buen desayuno preparado según la preferencia personal del cliente
Excellent breakfast and wonderful staff/owners who couldn’t do enough for us!
We thought the property as on a large lake from the photos but loved the duck pond and view just the same!
So quaint and secluded. A mini oasis. Mel was amazing. Hostess with the most-est. She suggested we do an early breakfast to get to Hooker Valley Trail early and she was so right for that! Rooms were immaculate. Refreshments and breakfast were immaculate. I wish we stayed more than 1 night.
The lodge was absolutely incredible to stay in! Amazing views out of our room of the duck pond and the mountains in the background. Our room was spacious and well equipped, with an amazing spa bath in the bathroom. Mel was the most amazing host and made us feel so welcome, and went out of her way to help - including dinner recommendations and ten serving us breakfast earlier than scheduled due to an early start. We wish we could have stayed for longer than our 1 night!
Not recommended for couple as lacks privacy nor families as too small! Only one long dining table for 10 and wonder how it qualifies as a lodge! Only 5 rooms and breakfast from 8 am to 9 am!!! No fridge nor even kettle plus! Checkout is at 10 am and a loud knock on the door to confirm; hardly hospitable act let alone service. Over priced at NZ$500 per nite! Expedia needs to update.
Mel prepared us a wonderful breakfast, probably the best in our five weeks of travel. There were choices to suit what we felt like and the scrambled eggs were perfect. I loved the cereal choices and the great coffees. We also appreciated the fruit cake and cookies and other treats that were generously provided. The room was very comfortable with quality bedding and furniture and a beautiful bathroom and great views of the mountains. Mel’s care and warmth were very much appreciated, and her restaurant recommendations were great!
The options for watching TV channels were very limited. Most things we wanted to watch required a different subscription so we had to settle for really bad TV shows. This didn’t affect the enjoyment of our stay but it is really the only thing that could be improved and that we would have welcomed.
Quite honestly one of the most well appointed rooms I have ever stayed in. The made to order breakfast was a great addition!
Nothing.
Mel was a fantastic hostess, she greeted us with warmth and energy that brings happiness. She cooked cookies that were yummy. She was very easy to deal with and well presented with how things ran. we had a wonderful night and would easily stay again. We will tell our friends and family.
Nothing, faultless.
This is a very cozy and well maintained house. The view from the living area and also our room is astonishing! Few rooms which made us feeling like this is our home. Mel is super nice and the breakfast was well made beyond our expectations. The location was also not bad, about 10mins drive to the nearest town, Twizel, for gas.
Everything was perfect! The soundproof could be better, but guests in the house slept early, so didn’t have much trouble with that.
Everything. Mel welcomed us and looked after us throughout our stay. She is an absolute star. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the view is awesome. Nice modern bathroom with spa bath. There are comfortable communal areas and tea/coffee is available all day long with freshly baked goods. There is also something stronger if required. Plenty of choices for breakfast cooked by Mel. Can’t recommend highly enough. Worth every penny.
That we had to leave
Our room was luxurious and well designed. Great bedding. Beautiful bathroom. Libby, the lodge manager, was friendly and full of good advice. She even reached out ahead of time to make sure we had dinner reservations in town. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.
Everything was great, but Matuka is more of a luxury B&B than a "lodge". Worth knowing that ahead of time so expectations are appropriate.
the property was amazing and the views were spectacular
absolutely nothing it was perfect
Amazing lodge and lovely hosts. Highly recommend staying here. We stayed for 3 nights and the proximity to Mt Cook area was excellent (about 45 mins). The lodge was peaceful and included a lovely breakfast. Plenty of space to relax in the large lounge room in the lodge. There are a number of local places to eat dinner at (a short drive away).
We only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. A very beautiful property, very spacious and wonderful hosts. The view of the stars at night in a specially prepared area was fantastic. the cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious. Also wine and beverages available at any time.
Great accommodation close to Twizel. Excellent breakfast - all home made. Rooms were spacious and bed extremely comfortable. Bathroom furniture could do with a refurb. The outstanding feature were the positive energies of the hosts (Libby and Geoff). Libby was so caring for all her guests and ensuring that they were maximising their experience of the area - nothing was too much trouble for her to try and organise or to suggest.
We had the best time. Libby and Geoff are amazing hosts. Thank you both so much.
Amazing stay. Lovely bedroom, sitting area, and huge bathroom with luxurious spa tub, walk in shower, heated towel rack, plush towels, and great smelling shampoo/soap. Beautiful setting with well landscaped pond, Mountain View’s and even ducks in the pond. Great welcoming snacks and really excellent breakfast…best tasting mushrooms ever! Friendly, attentive hosts as well.
We could not ask for a more comfortable or personalized experience/stay.
The hospitality
none
We loved our stay at Matuka lodge. Geoff & Libby were fatastic hosts and the breakfast made by Libby was fantastic each morning. The lodge is a beautiful location to spend time and a great place to access Aoraki / Mt Cook National park.
What a wonderful surprise!!! This place was awesome. The staff, the bed, the views, couldn’t have been better. The hospitality was the BEST, we felt so welcomed!!! Thank you!
Excellent stay!! Great hosts, location, accommodation, breakfasts and amenities. Could have stayed longer! I would highly recommend.
Unmatched experience. Most wonderful hosts!
It was simply a amazing experience. Something we will me er forget. We loved our host
We enjoyed a wonderful time with Pete and Jo. They were exceptional hosts and the lodge is luxurious. The nearby fishing was excellent.
Fantastic setting and amazing hospitality from Jo and Peter
Amazing place wonderful hosts made us feel at home!
Jo and Peter, by their fantastic, hospitality, made part of their family. They guided us to all the great activities and dining in the neighborhood, but still made our stay quiet and relaxing. Our only regret was that we did not plan to stay much, much longer. There was so much more we could have done and we do hope to return to do so. Do not shut the curtains in your room. The remoteness of the Matuka lends great privacy while allowing great views into nature. On dark nights, whilst well blanketed on a chaise in the garden, enjoy the Southern Cross and Milky Way without the tour crowds. The Matuka is world class luxury in a very quiet, refined, relaxing way>
Quiet location and convenient to Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook/St Johns. Great hosts and great suite rooms, with luxe amenities (sheets, toiletries, etc). Really nice small touches and attention to detail with personalized service.
Beautiful, clean, lovely place with real heart, hospitality, and generosity. My 24 yo son said, "Jo is like our fairy godmother"
Property owners were so welcoming. We felt comfortable and cared for.
Matuka is an absolute dream. From the scenery to the adorable town of Twizel to hosts Jo and Peter, this was one of the best - if not THE best - highlights of our trip. We simply didn’t want to leave. And why would you? Jo’s chocolate chippie biscuits and celebration cake - not to mention her and Peter’s delicious home-cooked breakfasts - keep you coming back for more. We’d without a doubt stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet respite. We truly hope to see Jo and Peter again someday!
Beautiful location, and the property was out of this world. Loved our hosts, Jo and Peter. I wish we could have stayed longer!
This prperty had everything one might need. In every respect. Very friendly and professional reception by owner. Perfect example of what a B&B should be.
Perfect Luxury .. an oasis of calm. Location, views, facilities, staff all top notch !!
Warm hospitality from Jo and Peter. Very knowledgable about all of New Zealand. Superb comfort and lovely scenery. Excellent food and attention to detail in every aspect. Our hosts truly enjoy providing a first class experience.
Incredibly peaceful and relaxing setting with great views of Southern Alps
Our host, Jo, was delightful, friendly and a wonderful cook! We loved everything about Matuka Lodge - it was the best place we stayed in the 10 days of our NZ trip. Although on the pricier side due to lack of similar options in the area, the comfort and wonderful house more than made up for it. My Husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we’ll definitely be back!
Absolutely fabulous place to stay. The ambiance, smells, view are just amazing and the hosts are absolutely adorable. You HAVE TO stay here if you are considering this area and place. 100% you wont be dissappointed...garanteed.
Beautiful views and very comfortable. Jo was kind enough to drive us into town for dinner since we had already started enjoying some NZ wine. My only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer.
Flawless. The ultimate way to end a holiday. I left this morning and I miss it already.
Matuka was one of the highlights of our three week trip to New Zealand. Wonderful hosts and great views from the property. Borrowed bikes and road a 17.5 kilmometer loop that afforded magnificent views of the peaks and and rural life in this small relatively untouched community. Looking forward to returning to New Zealand someday and Matuka will definitely be part of our visit!
Gracious hosts and a beautiful location with incredible views — highly recommend for anyone wanting a base to explore the surrounding area.
Peter and Joe and the rest of the Matuka lodge family were amazing and made this experience so special. We received a warm welcome, enjoyed a delicious breakfast, received some well known local tips and had a blast!!
