I recently had the pleasure of staying at Bishop Arms hotel and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. The room was clean and comfortable.
Nothing
Area is scheduled to be demolished. Hotel had no staff available after restaurant closing till 3 pm the next day. Lack of nearby restaurants due to moving of city center 4km away.
The hotel is upstairs from the main business which is a very good restaurant and bar. While, it doesn’t look like much from the outside, the rooms are very nice, clean, and comfortable. like much of the town, the neighborhood around the hotel is not very exciting. if you want to eat in the restaurant, be sure to make a reservation since it seems to be the only place in the neighborhood.
We were on a 2 day trip to Kiruna to catch the Northern Lights.
The hotel is central and the rooms are comfortable.
Perfect location for our stay. Great breakfast!
The room is clean, well equipped and larger than I expected. I was able to leave my luggage til check-in.
Very interesting location, beautiful city, Hotel has a great, The staff were nice, they were just a bit too serious, maybe it's a cultural thing
The staff in the pub are the worst ever! The girls that run the hotel portion are very nice and stand in stark contrast to the bad pub staff. Room was very nice and we can recommend the hotel.
Only 4 parking spots for the whole hotel, so I didn't manage to get a spot. That meant to deal with parking for 2 hours during normal weekdays till 21, if I remember correct.
Great place to stay, food a little expensive relative to nearby options. Good choice of beers.
Good location. Good pub. Decent breakfast given what we are used to for Swedish standards. Some staff struggle speaking English but helped where they could
An wonderful experience and the hotel is very close to the tourist center and other transportation
Very basic hotel. Bar staff very friendly! Close to bus stop for the airport bus.
Nice place to stay in Kiruna if you are looking for nothing fancy but it’s cozy enough
Hotel is centrally located, which is about a 5-8 mins' walk if you take the bus from the airport. Rooms are clean and the toilet looks to be newly refurbished. The hotel has a bar which also serves food that makes it really convenient if it gets too cold to go out. A very comfortable stay but the pillow needs a bit of improvement, it gets really flat after some time.
Hotel in the center of town, above a good pub (where you check-in, no real front desk). Room was a bit old, dirty carpets and walls; bed and bathroom clean though. Not far from bus stop to airport, or free bus to train station. Breakfast was pretty basic but not bad.
Comfortable and quiet. Staff were friendly & helpful even providing a prepackaged breakfast for an early departure. Convenient location as very close to central bus station
For a little town like Kiruna, this hotel is very nice, clean, well-cared for, and it sits right on top of the Bishop Arms bar, the best and most happening place in the city. Highly recommended.
Breakfast buffet was quite ample. Room was quiet and comfortable. Free parking! Good food off the dinner menu. Good location for walking around town, but not too much to see.
Nice room. Noisy from the bar on the Saturday night. Especially every time someone moved a stool. Good breakfast, good beer and good food. Overall a good stay.
The rooms were nice and clean. Excellent service. The restaurant and cafe were great. We really enjoyed our stay!
Property is centrally located, within easy walking distance of a number of places activities. Rooms are nice and clean. Staff at the pub is very friendly and fun!
The room was warm, clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. It's location in Kiruna is perfect. They also had a terrific breakfast buffet in the morning. I have to preface my next statement by mentioning that we were checking in on January 1st. I was surprised to find that the Bishop Arms does not appear to have a front desk. I checked in at the bar on the 1st floor and when I wanted to check out there was no place to leave my key card. Still I would highly recommend the Bishop Arms to people who are not put off by something a little different,
Great place to stay. Large comfortable rooms. Convenient locations
Well located near the tourist center where most activities can be purchased. Check in is inside the bar not a true reception area but hotel room spacious and very clean.
Well I never actually stayed here but as my money was paid and I was asked to write a review I thought I should. I booked my accomodation and booked “non refundable”. This was my First mistake. This was several of months prior to “staying”. I had flight changes by the airlines twice which resulted in me not having 2 nights now, only about 8 hours. No one in their right mind would fly so far to stay 8 hours total. I informed hotel (via Expedia) of my situation and it fell on deaf ears. As this was a non Refundable booking they said go away more or less. I am not saying that they should of refunded booking however they could of provided some excellent customer service and attempted to help... by getting room rebooked (at least 4 months notice). So I lost several hundred dollars and never saw this hotel. I certainly would not stay here on a non refundable booking as airlines change dates and times regularly and you will NOT receive help from hotel. If you stay here book a flexible room or shop around to a cheaper place.
Room was very different from the pictures on the website, much smaller. Also, was given twin beds when I had requested a double bed in the reservation. Looking though the pictures again, I believe I was given a single room with an extra bed, as the room was so small. Also, tve door giving access to the hotel, supposed to be opened with the room cards was not working and always left open, giving any person access to the the hotel corridors. Overall was a good stay, but could have booked a better hotel for the same price.
Simple, but clean, comfortable and convenient. Loved that the hotel was connected to the pub.
Nice clean hotel. Comfortable bed and chair. Very clean. Located nicely in the middle of Kiruna town and just 2 minutes walk to the bus station.
Lovely pub, rooms are clean but a little dated. Overall though it was a comfortable stay.
I found the Bishops Arms Hotel to be very convenient, the breakfasts good and the furnishings quite good. It was quiet, in spite of its central location.
Good spot for a night or two. The lobby/check in is in the pub on the first floor. Great service in the pub even though it was very crowded. Pretty sure this is the only real "pub" in the area. Room was basic but comfortable and clean. Good wifi. Good breakfast. There isn't a traditional lobby though and the pub doesn't open till later in the day, for me that meant a 6 hour gap between check out and train departure on a Sunday when no other businesses are open in the area. Something to keep in mind if you have a similar itenerary.
Excellent hotel, good condition, good cleanliness, good location, recommend
Only had a 1 night stay in Kiruna but was very happy. Clean facilities & friendly staff. Room was neat & tidy. Reception desk at the bar was a different experience no less professional.
The hotel is nice and there is a decent chain pub. The advertising made it sound as though it were a locally owned pub/hotel, but it is still pleasant. There was virtually no interaction with staff, but everything was efficient. The rooms are nicely renovated - fairly recently from the appearance. Some rooms (like mine) have windows opening into the galleria (mini-mall) which is odd and doesn't allow for opening the windows to cool the room or circulate air, but it isn't a major issue. The provided breakfast and dinner, purchased at the pub, were both good.
Beautiful, comfy, can't fault it.
Great location Great service and friendly staff Highly recommended
The room was nice and staff helpful. The restaurant was great.
This is not a top of the range hotel as it is a pub hotel but good value for money compared with other hotels in the area. It had a good atmosphere and the staff were excellent. Check in was so quick. The rooms were a good size and modern. Central location as it is in the middle of the town. Easy walking to shops and tourist information. A good variety of food for breakfast and our dinner at night was a good size and very enjoyable. There is a free bus from the train station to the bus station and then it is an 8 minute walk up a slight incline to the hotel.
We didn’t have a chance to enjoy the hotel in Kiruna because of a medical emergency. We lost our booking and monies because we couldn’t travel to Kiruna. Hopefully, we can enjoy Kiruna and the Northern lights next year. Therefore, We can’t rate the stay! But had to rate something to submit.
Comfortable, clean rooms. Staff were helpful and friendly. Only a 5 min walk to the airport bus (police station stop).
Great but unfortunately we did not see the Northern lights
Absolutely great bar with terrific service, good food, and a terrific range of beers. The accomodation was as described, perfectly comfortable and not fancy. I would definitely stay here again when returning to Kiruna.
The Bishop Arms Hotel is an unique experience. The hotel rooms are over the pub. There is no lobby etc. However this added to the charm. The location is best in Kiruna. Right in the center of town. Walkable to everything. The rooms are dated but our was very large and very clean. The bathroom was large and also very clean. 2 of our 3 windows overlooked the indoor mini mall which was strange. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast has a good selection. Overall this is the best place to stay in the center of Kiruna. Just be aware it doesn't offer the concierge, room service, amenities of a full service hotel. However the pub is the place to be at night, especially if you want to talk to the locals.
My girlfriend and I went there in early December. The hotel is in a good location there is a small mall underneath where you can get a SIM card for your phone, buy some clothes or eat at the little cafe. The hotels bar and restaurant is nice and the food is very tasty but a little expensive. I spent about $82- $85 U.S. for baked salmon a burger and two beers. The price was worth it for me because the food was very good but I couldn't eat there every night. There is a bus station within walking distance so you can go and see the ice hotel. There are also some things to see around town with lots of restaurants, cafes, and a little grocery store as well. The rooms were clean and well heated. We had the free breakfast which was pretty good. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Nice hotel with one of the only bars/restaurants that stays open late. Easy check in process. Friendly staff.
Ticks all the boxes! - central location - clean, modern and spacious - easy check-in (from 12) - breakfast bag if you are checking out early - attached to a pub with amazing food!
Very central in Kiruna. Very popular and buzzing pub. Excellent choice of beer and whiskies!
Enjoyed our family holiday. The room was just what we needed: sufficient space, comfy beds, well maintained and clean. The only other facility is the pub bit which was excellent for breakfast and almost too good for dinner since it was hard to get a table unless booked a day or two in advance.
Great hotel and I would want to commend the staff for finding my stuff as well
Basic & clean. Happy to stay there again.
It is strange to find an English pub in northern Sweden, reception is at the bar, amongst the horse brasses. Our room was basic but had everything we needed, and a view out across a large square, where we could park the car for free.
This hotel is in Swedish Lappland, which is a beautiful place to visit.
Great location! 5 min walk to the airport bus stop, ICA market, restaurants! Centrally located in Kiruna Centrum! To top it all, the reception/lobby is the Bishop Arms Pub and the ground floor is a shopping area with systembolaget (wines and spirits store) a level down. I thought it would be noisy! But it was not at all! The room was very comfortable and clean . It has hardwood floors with a large space for suitcases and skis! Paul, the bartender/ receptionist was very helpful and friendly. Food in the menu was reasonably priced. The breakfast could be better.
LOCATION: the hotel is extremely well located right in the city center so you can walk anywhere within 5-10 mins (the city is quite small though). HOTEL: the hotel is located within a small shopping complex and the front desk is an english pub part of a swedish chain. The atmosphere at the pub is quite good and the hotel properly is good enough. ROOMS: The rooms are spacious, comfortable and plainly good decorated. The facilities are convenient and modern. STAFF: the staff is not un-friendly nor very helpful. Average good. OVERALL: Kiruna is one of the most expensive cities I have visited in my life if not the most, and as such, this hotel, as every other one in the city has OVERWHELMINGLY high prices since those prices belong to special class hotels EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. If you are traveling to Kiruna, everything will be very very expensive -much more than in Stockholm- so considering the 'standard' of the city, you will not find any other hotel so central -all of them have the same category prices-. Considering this, I would really recommend it as an excellent departing point for touristic purposes.
Lovely comfy room but staff could have been a bit friendlier and helpful. Couldn't get a table to eat in the restaurant (I say restaurant, it's just a pub). Don't expect much for breakfast.
This was the perfect stay for one night before going to the Ice Hotel 20km away. Although you wouldn't expext a pub to be a hotel I can highly recommend it. It's just about 3 years old, all rooms are very modern. Being in the middle of Kiruna is very convenient. It was extremely quiet.
Great hotel well located in the city center of Kiruna. Rooms were clean and fresh. Reception open hours can be a bit inconvenient for some travellers but for me was not a problem.
Excellent location, there's supermarket and local shopping mall. Very clean and spacious room with very friendly and helpful hotel staff plus free parking cross the street. Hotel can consider to install a room key drop box for guests to check out while the reception is closed. Overall we had a good stay here!
Nice clean hotel. It has a bar/reception that makes this hotel unique, I mean, the reception itself is an irish pub, the only downside of this is that when the bar is closed there is no way to get any help or information from the reception. The rooms don't have a phone.
Remember that this northern town still operates the largest open cast iron ore mine in the world. This town is built by / upon and lives for the mine. If you come to the pub for the beers and want to spend the night then it's OK. But only just !!
Everything was fine. Only minus point: restaurant a bit to expensive. We recommend the hotel and the pub.
It may seem a bit quirky to find a hotel above a shopping complex with the reception in a pub, but this is not an issue. The room was spacious and clean, also quiet. The breakfast provided was satisfactory. A couple of points: it appears you can check in from 12 noon, except on Sundays when it's 4pm. Secondly, if travelling by train as I was, the train station is not walking distance from the hotel as shown on the map: it has been moved about 1km north of the town. But there is a free shuttle bus that meets arriving trains and runs to/ from the bus station.
Kiruna, Sweden. 1. couldn´t find reception and had to go upstairs and downstairs with all of our luggage until I found a bartender in the restaurant. 2. room was cold and the staff told me that it was impossible to regulate inside room since it was controlled through a main system. 3. the entrance key was disactivated before checkout and we couldn´t get back inside to get our luggage for the flight. The sign suggested calling however we don´t have a European cell. When someone else called in for us, there was no answer. 4. a guard came eventually and his card did not work either. 5. Room did not open either and we were very tight on time since it took almost an hour to get into the room. 6. Staff told us that no bus was available on a Sunday to go to airport, so we booked a taxi. Sure enough, when pulling in from our more expensive ride to departures, there is a local bus. 7. Wrote to them appraising them of poor experience; still waiting for a response.
The only place to have dinner in Kiruna at the weekend (pretty literally) and bar the odd double room which was two beds pushed together (not attached) it was a lovely experience.Set an alarm for 1am to hear the mining explosions.
Nothing exciting about here. Expensive but I guess that comes with the territory. Breakfast was served on a bar top, very small selection. Was very average for the money we paid ($250 AUD (1442 SEK) per night) location was good though. Close to the centre and the bus stop for airport transfers.
The room was spotlessly clean, and had been recently refurbished. Although simply furnished it was of good quality. The location over the pub and shopping centre was stange, but did not intrude and was quiet. Breakfast was basic with limited choice and availability. Some confusion at check in whether we had paid or not, as the hotel system did not seem to register that we had already paid.
The hotel was in a perfect location, was extremely clean and had all the facilities we needed. It all looked to be very recently decorated or refurbished. After spending a night out in the forest, this was more than welcome!
Very good central location and comfortable rooms. I would recommend this hotel and stay again.
Excellent place to stay for a day or two. We stayed for one night after having spent a night at the Icehotel. Lovely atmosphere in the pub - and good accommodation for the price.
The staff and quality of the lodging is quite good. You get your money's worth (considering it's Sweden...way North Sweden, too!) Kind of hard to find, depending on time of day, as you have to enter the "mall" to find the reception when the restaurant is not yet open. Definitely recommended for a stay in Kiruna!
This hotel, like most in Kiruna, is a fair distance from the train station. When we finally made it there, in a biting cold snow storm, it was more than worth the trouble getting there. The rooms were great, the pub was a blast and the food was also great. The hotel is right in the centre of town and great value for the price.
We had booked a family room for the 2 of us and we loved it. Modern, quiet, very spacious and clean in a very central location. We will certainly stay at this hotel again when travelling to Kiruna. The late check in was not a problem as we arrived in the evening. The breakfast was nice too. We were very pleased that we stayed at the Bishop Arms. Highly recommended!
We arrived in Kiruna on 27th Dec around 21:00 CET and checked in. There was a bit of confusion as the bartenders were at the reception which is the same as the bar reception and asked us to pay. We told them that we have paid through Expedia. They however allowed us top check-in and told us that they will get the payment verified by the hotel staff in the morning. Next morning the hotel staff checked and confirmed that payment has been done! What a relief! Breakfast is very good with lots of options and hotel rooms are clean. Wifi is great as well. Food is available only until 10 pm beyond which there is no flexibility for a burger even! If you plan to visit the Abisko National park, do activities in Jukkasjarvi, Ice hotel etc, this is a nice hotel to be based at. Overall a pleasing experience.
No complaints....good place / staffs
Welcoming. Great and old stay again when we go up to the Arctic Circle again. They even sell cider! Now you don't always find that on your travels. Good buffet breakfast, strangely served in the pub/bar area. Rooms warm and clean and comfy. With a fridge and kettle. Probably had an iron too, but try to avoid ironing if I can!
Room was nice and spacious with a large comfortable bed. Bar downstairs was excellent and did really nice bar food . Staff were very helpful and allowed us to check in early . Good breakfast choices.
high price for the hotel type/location, however the country is so beautiful one tends to overlook other things
We loved the location and also how quiet it was! There was a great bar and good food served in the restaurant.
Excellent location, just five minutes from the central bus station. Great food available in the pub downstairs. Free parking and free Wi-Fi. Noise was no issue even though we slept on the first floor right above the pub. Breakfast is tasty, the rooms nice and clean and the pub downstairs by far the best watering hole in Kiruna. Plus they do great burgers and steaks.
Overall the hotel is good quality. However don't rely on the Hotel to assist you with any tourist activities.
All the water in Kiruna has this nasty chemical smell- you have to wonder when there are signs everywhere saying "our water is drinkable!". People seem run down- I wasn't imagining it, a bartender who had moved there a year before said the same thing and begged me not to judge Sweden by this town. The hotel was fine, more space than others though lacking in all the little things like a tea kettle in the room, phone in the room, etc. People in the hotel were friendly and nice, the breakfast wasn't the freshest and the bed was uncomfortable. But seriously, the town has nothing to offer- it's a mining town. Go to Abisko- they have dogsledding, skiing, nature trails, the sky station, nature center, etc. Clean, non-chemical smelling water, gorgeous mountain views from the dining area. Kiruna doesn't offer anything worthwhile city-wise and it just feels awful. If you can afford it stay at the ice hotel. SO WORTH IT. And they have a cheap shuttle to the airport, warm rooms, very friendly, beuatiful, interesting place, though all the tour stuff (dogsledding, etc. is double/triple the price in Kiruna and Abisko.
the room is clean and comfortable. We enjoyed staying in the room after our outdoor activities. location is good to the town center and bus station. We felt that the hotel staff can be a little bit more friendly and responsive, and that will be perfect. the drinks in the pub is great.
Incredibly comfortable and warm rooms, basic in the sense there was no mini bar or tea and coffee in the room but very clean.
Great location, just around the corner from the airport bus stop and close to town centre shops and restaurants. The rooms themselves are above a shopping centre and there's no recption desk as such, you just check in at the pub then get a key card which allows you to access the rooms via an elevator in the mall. This is the only drawback to this hotel- the 'reception' is only open during pub hours and the staff are doubling up as bar staff. It seems to be a very popular venue with local people, especially on weekends, and the staff are clearly there to pull pints rather than manage the hotel. They're pleasant but not that helpful, for example we requested an additional pillow but couldn't have one as the rooms were all booked- I've never been to a hotel that has the exact number of pillows as guests! Other than this it's a good base for sampling the local winter activities. It's one of the cheaper local options and it's fairly basic- no tea/coffee making facilities, for example- but it is comfy and warm, and there were no problems with noise from the pub or the shopping centre. Breakfast is included and the showers were one of the highlights- really powerful, just what you need after a day in the cold weather.
Great little hotel above an English-style pub, in the centre of Kiruna. The rooms are very new, nicely laid out and comfortable. Nothing but good things to say about it!
The hotel is very nice and updated. Having to check in at the bar seemed strange, but worked out just fine. The hotel is very central to the city center and restaurants in the area. We had a family room which consists of two single beds and the most extremely uncomfortable pull out couch. If you plan to stay here and have more than just small children, think twice about the family room.
Great location, good breakfast and a bargain. Only issue would be that check-in can not be done before 4pm.
Great location, one downside is availability of reception as only open during pub hours, so unable to leave luggage on arrival.Pub offers good food and nice varied continental breakfast.Rooms were comfortable and clean, bed a little soft for my liking but after a full days activities I slept like a log! Kiruna is very small so everything was within walking distance. Perfect base for one or two days closeby activities. Staff were all very friendly!
The check in was a total disaster. Although we were aware that the check in was only at 4pm ,at least we should have the benefit of using the lounge or whatever is available. Even the taxi driver who dropped us volunteered to stay back and offered us some other options. We tried to telephone the hotel but nobody responded. We were to be told later in the bar by a Thai waitress that there was a new girl on duty and that she did not attend to any calls. The Manager that we wanted to speak to was not available on that Sunday afternoon, and also on Monday as it was her off day. We were therefore trudging the town all afternoon carting our bags in the deep snow. It was a poor start to our one day visit, and on hind sight should have done our home work more earnestly and opted for another hotel!!
We enjoyed this hotel, we stayed in the Ice Hotel one night and moved here for 2 nights to be in the city and less expensive then the Ice Hotel. It was in a great central location, Kiruna is easily walked around. The room was clean and comfortable. We missed the breakfast so cannot comment on that. One thing the check-in was strange being at the bar, no issues, but no front desk support either. We did not need it but could see that as an issue if you had an after business hours issue. Would recommend.
Although check in is at the pub, the staff was friendly and helpful. Despite the busyness the next day, my request was promptly catered for! Overall, very happy with the service and the standard of accommodation!!
great little hotel.. righ in the center!
This is a fairly new hotel and the rooms are very comfortable and kept to a high standard. However there were a few minors issues that could have greatly improved our stay. We arrived on the overnight train from Stockholm and our arrival at the hotel was 12:45. Reception was limited to pub opening hours so, not open till 16:00. Quite a few guests had arrived on the same train therefore, it would be helpful if the hotel had a reception service that coincided with arrivals at the airport and train station. Also, the hotel was mainly frequented by tourists and having breakfast available till 10:00 would also have helped. Overall, we were very satisfied with the hotel but, if the check-in experience could was improved I would give it a 4
The hotel room was big (for a European hotel) and very comfortable. The toilet floor was heated, which was very good. The breakfast staff were very thoughtful and helped to prepare a very good breakfast bag as we had to leave early (before breakfast). The location is good, as it is inside a shopping mall and is very near to the different travel agencies. On the flip side, it can be quite a walk from the train station (15 mins, uphill) so stamina is a must.
