Sue-Ellen was delightful and very knowledgeable providing great advice on where to stop based on our travel plans. The room was beautiful and spacious with an incredible view and breakfast was à la carte. Wish we were staying longer. We will be back. 😀
The breakfast was fabulous, way beyond expectations. Room was very comfortable and nicely furnished. Our host was friendly and helpful, but not intrusive.
Location is a bit remote, with limited dining options nearby. A minor problem at best
A fantastic lodge. Perfect host, and excellent facilities. We could not fault our stay. Also the added bonus of dark skies!
A wonderful experience throughout, with great attention to detail. A warm welcome, and lovely stay.
Great house luved it
Nothing the host was amazing
The view from every room! Happy hour on the deck and breakfast were exceptional. The hostess/owner was the best part of our stay. What a lovely, friendly and informative person. She also left us little treats and a hand lotion during our stay.
Nothing.

This is a special venue, superbly presented, every attention to detail - truly 5*
The welcome, the lounge, the deck, the room, happy hour! The hosts, the other guests, breakfast…. All amazing.
A perfect place to break the journey with a very hospitable host. Shame we had to go out again for food.
Everything. The host, Sue-Ellen, was excellent. The Lodge and bedrooms were spacious, spotless and up to date. The views were amazing. The breakfast was excellent.
Everything was perfect. There was nothing to dislike.
Tastefully decorated and impeccably clean property with lovely views over the river. The owner is friendly and attentive and the breakfast is top notch.
Lovely facility, nice rooms, great view, delightful deck.

Everything!
Really couldnt fault it
We had a wonderful stay at Rimu Lodge. It was indeed a relaxing and rejuvenating experience after a long day of travel. Sue-Ellen is a wonderful host who graciously looks after her guests’ needs.
An elegantly appointed property with a charming host. We enjoyed the garden views from upstairs out to the river and the nearby farms. The breakfasts were excellent and left us smiling. Local free range eggs and hydroponic spinach made for a healthy start to the day. We had fun walking around the streets at night visiting the local pub and seeing the glowworm dell. There was no light pollution so the skies were incredible at night. The room was spacious and well laid out. The heating system was very cozy. Sue-Ellen’s local knowledge was excellent and she gave us lots of ideas on what to do and we really enjoyed our happy hour drinks by the fire reading the coffee table books. We look forward to visiting again!

Easy location with only 4 rooms. Lovely atmosphere and Sue-Ellen was delightful.
We liked everything about this place.
Nothing.
Everything about Rimu Lodge was just perfect. Sue Ellen was the loveliest host: so thoughtful, informative and with just the right level of friendly attentiveness. The Lodge is an elegant property in a gorgeous setting and Hokitika is a great wee town, full of surprises. Breakfast was superb and a generous Happy Hour was a great way to chat with fellow guests. We cannot praise our experience enough.
Nothing. You can't beat perfection!
Sue-Ellen is an excellent and knowledgable host. Rimu Lodge is in a unique setting providing respite from travel demands and time to rest and rejuvenate.
The property had amazing views and Sue Ellen was really helpful with making recommendations and offering suggestions. You can tell she really cares about her guests. The views were amazing!! The breakfast was unbelievable! We were shocked by the offerings and how delicious everything was. We were invited to but did not attend the happy hour, but I am sure it would have been fun. It was a real treat to stay here!
The only thing that was a little difficult was the parking - it was quite tight. Also, the walls were a little thin. We didn't have issues with it, but did notice it.
Sue Ellen was a fantastic host and made us feel right at home during our stay. Her extensive knowledge of the West Coast helped us make the most of our driving holiday. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and set us up for a day of exploring. We only stayed for one night but wished we had stayed an extra night or two. Will be back.
Felt welcome as soon as we arrived the host went beyond expectations. Treated to complimentary drinks , and as this journey was our retirement present to ourselves , we were surprised with chocolates and a lovely card.
This was an absolutely fantastic place to stay. What a gem! Sue Ellen could not have been more welcoming - even making a dinner reservation for us and updating the restaurant because we were running late. Rimu Lodge is delightful. The rooms are large, contemporary yet cosy, beautifully decorated and with lots of little touches such as a turn down service, exquisite bathroom products and fine quality chocolate treats to welcome you. The super king bed was extremely comfortable and my husband and I slept like tops! Our room opened out onto a gorgeous veranda where, weather permitting, you can stargaze at night and relax during the day. We arrived too late for the welcome happy hour drinks to meet our host and other guests, but this was another lovely touch. Breakfast was divine. High quality ingredients, fresh fruits and pastries plus beautifully cooked hot options. Both hubby and I had the French toast which was accompanied by a divine fruit compote. Totally delicious. Sue Ellen was really helpful in providing tips on what to see and do in the area and relating to our onward journey. Thank you Sue Ellen for being so kind and attentive. We really felt that it was important to you that we enjoyed our stay and we appreciate the effort you made on our behalves. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rimu Lodge. You won't be disappointed.
Beautiful setting, everything just lovely, the host thought about everything you could possibly need to make it a luxurious stay and gave us the best advice on sightseeing locally, would definitely recommend this lovely accommodation!
Nothing it was all perfect
Great location and host.
First class accommodation
This is a really first class operation. Only 4 rooms, each the same. Owner, Sue Ellen, did everything to make our stay special. She is friendly and full of suggestions and resources. She couldn’t have been more helpful. We enjoyed the cocktail hour out on the patio and a most delicious Full breakfast with lots of choices. Would definitely come again and highly recommend.
High class B&B where every little detail has been thought of. Highly recommended.

Sue Ellen our host was delightful and waited for our arrival which was late in the evening
We stayed 3 blissful nights at Rimu Lodge, welcomed on our arrival just a few minutes before 8pm by Sue Ellen, who immediately phoned the local pub to ask them to keep the kitchen open so we could rush down for a pizza ( excellent & home made). When we went to Hokatika Gorge & a nearby lake, Sue Ellen thoughtfully produced a picnic rug & beach towels for us. Sue Ellen has made the Lodge exquisite with furnishings and artworks, the bed was super comfortable, the ensuite facilities are beautifully designed with wonderful soaps and shampoos. The evening drinks on the terrace every day to meet other guests was a lovely touch. The views from every room are magical. Breakfast included fresh fruits from the garden. Everything is perfect- try it - you will love it.
Nothing to dislike, it’s wonderful.
Sue was an amazing host, picky bits and a scotch whiskey with some lovely others that were staying. The view was amazing and the the sounds that were coming from the woods were lovely to hear. Thanks Sue ❤️
not a big con but would have been nice to have an air-conditioned room being so warm the night we stayed.
The property was exceptional as was the pampering and extra special ways that the owner went out of her way to make our time memorable. This was a luxurious stop on our travels.
Sue-Ellen was a fantastic host, so knowledgable about things to do both locally and also in Franz-Josef. We had the BEST night at her local pub, (on her recommendation) on a Sunday with music, open mic playing fab americanah and others. On the way ‘home’ we then hit her local Glow Worm Dell. I thoroughly recommend Rimu Lodge for more chilled luxury, her ‘Happy Hour’ and her knowledge of the area. Thank you so much Sue Ellen, it was a stay to remember in NZ.
Nothing.
The stay exceeded my expectations. The host was very knowledgeable and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and spacious with beautiful furnishings. The view was instantly relaxing and stunning. It was a super quiet location and was the best nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was exception and beautifully presented . Our best stay in New Zealand and highly recommend.

Wow, wow, wow! This is a great place to stay. Very comfortable, spacious and super welcoming. Breakfast is fantastic and there’s a nice happy hour. The rural area is quiet and beautiful. Walk to the pub up the road for dinner. Stop at the glow worm dell to see glow worms shine at night. The owner/host is a gem!
The views are amazing nothing was to much trouble for the staff , enjoyed happy hour with the other guests
The property was cosy, comfortable, luxurious. Fantastic views. Loved the open fire. Very generous at happy hour.

Absolutely beautiful property. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided plus more. Evening dinner drinks in the lounge room allows you to chat to fellow guests and a wonderful breakfast with various menu options cooked to order. Highly recommend this property.

It was all perfect
Property was simply stunning! Sue-Ellen was a wonderful and welcoming host. Lovely breakfast and enjoyed sitting out on the deck for cocktail hour! If you do go, highly recommend the Precisions helicopters tour with Matty! Thanks again - and highly recommend this property when visiting the West Coast.
The west coast of NZ is extremely rural and poor. Typically that means marginal lodging. Marginal amenities. Cheap motels. We were so pleasantly surprised to find the Rumi lodge the exact opposite. Wonderful accommodations and food. What a wonderful breakfast. Literally five star. Cecelia, the host, was wonderful . Warm and inviting and so full of helpful info. Two thumbs way up for Rumi lodge.
beautiful facilities, great hostess and wonderful view and breakfast..
some confusion over the payment - booking .com says its prepaid and the hostess had not been prepaid and i paid again... now i have an issue with booking.com overpossible double payment.... hopefully we sort it out with no problems..
Everything was wonderful, this is a wonderful place to stay and not to be missed.

Great breakfast and service with attention to excellence in every detail. My wife and I loved the walk to the local hotel for an enjoyable meal and evening with the locals dropping in at the wonderful glowworm cave on the way.

Our hostess has done an amazing job with the property. Her attention to detail is exceptional. Her friendliness and desire to help make the experience of staying there as good as possible was much appreciated.

The view outside is spectacular. You can see Hokitika river through your window. The bed is comfy and food is delicious. The egg benedict I ordered is the best I’ve ever had in this year. The hostess is amazing. She’s super friendly and very informative.
Rimu is a jewel!
The local pub that was recommended for dinner is a dump. A delightful lodge but no good dining nearby.
This property was top shelf luxury and the innkeeper was so gracious. When we arrived she greeted us at the door, showed us around our room, started a fire in the fireplace. She gave us tourist sites like the glowworm dell 5 minutes.from the lodge, and printed us info on hikes for the next day. Breakfast was also delicious.
Breakfast was amazing
Nothing it was all perfect
A quick one-night stay. Beautiful views, peaceful spot, and a quick 15-minute drive into town. Personal touches from our lovely hostess. We would certainly stay again and would not hesitate to recommend it to fellow travelers.
The view is amazing, and the facility makes you feel like you are in a lovely home (you are!) yet have your own ample space. The owner, Sue-Ellen, was so welcoming and kind, providing great local tips and making guests feel so welcome. Her “happy hour” allowed us to make new friends whom we went to dinner with, which added to a wonderful experience.
Nothing, we loved it!
