Very friendly and helpful owners, lovely rooms, good breakfast.
Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice. Very clean, Great parking, Perfect hosts.
Hospitality was on point as ever. Breakfast was lovely.
Easy parking. Friendly service., a family run Hotel. Reasonable menu in restaurant. Ale selection limited. Main road a little noisy. maintenance appears to be done in house . No shower curtain and single room was warm despite cooler weather, but fan provided.
Miserable….. I have nor anyone else we met there was happy. The owner is miserable, huffs and puffs at everything. Food is burnt and dry. It’s like he’s given up on everything. We felt as if we had entered his home and just decided we were going to help ourselves and claimed squatters rights. He should close the doors and sell up and prehaps be happy. We could not wait to leave and we’re very grateful we only had one night. Another couple were cutting their losses and finding another place to stay as they felt so unwanted and unwelcome and uncomfortable.
Convenient for a stay in Ross On Wye, a short walk along the river to get to the town.
I recently stayed at Castle Lodge Hotel and had a mixed experience. The location is convenient, just off the dual carriageway and close to Ross-on-Wye — yet surprisingly quiet with little to no road noise. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and breakfast was a highlight, offering a good selection including a well-cooked hot option. That said, the room was quite dusty, with noticeable cobwebs, which gave the impression it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned. The bathroom was very small and felt cramped, and I personally found the bed uncomfortable, though I appreciate comfort can vary for different people. Overall, it’s a charming place with potential, but it would benefit from improved housekeeping and some room updates. Fine for a short stay if you’re not too particular, but not without its downsides.
Excellent family run hotel. Great location, beautiful old building. Friendly owners make you feel welcome. Excellent breakfast.
The property was quite traditional but very comfortable and clean. Our cooked breakfast was served in a lovely airy room downstairs and was delicious. It was ideal for our overnight stay in Herefordshire.
Was an ok stopover for a night, food was good, hotel needs a bit of tlc, room okish bit dated, or is that what’s called shabby chic ?
Great place with a stunning breakfast
Hotel was clean and comfortable, and the owners were helpful and courteous. We had dinner one evening and the burger was amazing, honestly one of the nicest burgers I have had. The hotel is a perfect location to explore the area, and we would book here again.
Nice place. Host was great and the town is lovely.
Lovely hotel and hosts very friendly and helpful!
Comfortable stay with warm hospitality from the owners, no issues
So welcoming. thank you for a great stay
Hosts Georgina & Steve were professional, helpful & friendly - top class. Food was superb with great variety, steak & ale pie was a must eat choice, full English breakfast was piping hot and a great setup for the day ahead. Room was comfortable with reliable WiFi. Parking was spacious. We had a great three night stay and look forward to returning.
Very pleasant stay and was made to feel welcome from the first moment.
We felt at home throughout. Great location, a short picturesque walk down the river into Ross on wye. Lovely breakfast, did everything to cater for ourselves and our two year old. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
We stayed one night at Castle lodge. The owners are very friendly very comfortable beds and the dinner and breakfast was excellent. We wouldn't hesitate in staying again.
Nice hotel with very friendly hosts. Room was a good size and beds were comfortable. Full English breakfast served if wanted. Easy access to Ross on wye and lovely pubs. Would stay again if in the area.
This family run business was a delight to visit and the breakfast was lovely.
Made to feel incredibly welcome. They helped at every opportunity and without doubt one of the best hotel stays we have had.Cannot recommend highly enough.
Our stay was lovely!
Good food and friendly service.
We liked the property, it was well located for travellers. The owners made us very welcome. The food was of an excellent standard varied menu good value for money good portion size. We would well recommend.
Fabulous hosts, evening meal was fantastic and so was breakfast, I'll be back.
Extremely friendly Great food, would recommend
Comfortable and spacious room. Large shower. Bed a little uncomfortable for my liking. Breakfast was superb, hot and beautifully cooked. Owners were helpful and friendly.
Well outfitted room. Lovely meals both breakfast and evening meal. Helpful owners who put food products we had bought in the hotel fridge. Very good value
A lovely relaxing stay. Room very comfortable & I was made to feel very welcome on a very wet & cold evening. Bed very comfy & it was great to be have a bath in the en-suite.
Lovely large room with a huge bed, lovely little touches in the room, easy 15 min walk into Ross-on-Wye.
Delightful stay for one night , excellent service all done with courtesy and respect. Wonderful hosts would come back again if I needed a stay in this area.
Lovely 300 year old Bed and Breakfast family run and really nice helpful hosts room was comfy and had stunning views of the river food was great and very well priced excellent value for money lots of parking and a warm homely feel with a slight modern touch. I will be recommending to others and would 100% stay again!!
Great overnight stay. Evening meal super, great home cooked food. Overall a pleasant stay.
Great welcome. Manager/owner he was at the entrance to welcome us in as we got out the car and offered to carry bags which was lovely. Asked if we needed breakfast but we didnt as heading off early. Quirky rooms but all well decorated and tea/coffee, ironing board. Had air con and fan as a top floor hot room so good was there already. Only a one night stop over but would definitely recommend/ return in the future.
Fast check in. Comfortable room. Only 15 minute walk to town and a great breakfast
Very peaceful
A very pleasant stay. Friendly efficient service, very reasonable prices, good location, plenty of parking.
A very nice place with very friendly service
Used for a nights stay prior to a golf match. Comfortable and friendly staff
Oldy worldy staff superb !
great host would highly recomend
Lovely hotel. It is an old house converted into a comfortable place to stay. Such a pleasant change from modern hotels where the walls are thin and quests bang hotel doors. Substantial breakfast to set you up for a pleasant walk across the river to Ross on Wye. Will definitely book in this hotel again when in the area.
Steve was an excellent host. Nothing was too much trouble
Very friendly and great food
Lovely stay. Very good breakfast. Good value.
Lovely hotel
Such a lovely space to stay. Very friendly and welcoming - plus the beds were super comfy! Food was tasty and locally sourced.
Friendly reception..good breakfast..clean, comfortable room.
Great location, friendly welcome at reception to restaurant. The food at dinner and breakfast was fantastic with perfect poached eggs. Room was spacious and clean perfect for my business stay.
Very helpful and opened up for breakfast early for me. Food very good and home cooked. Will definitely stay again
Made very welcome on arrival, like the personal touch missing from the Premier Inn up the road, will definitely re visit
This is our third time staying here and we are likely to do so again if the opportunity presents itself. Splendid ambience and great hospitality. The food is excellent. Just an all round pleasurable experience, thank you.
Very decent bedroom, large. Great shower! Excellent breakfast and great supper very reasonably priced
Check in painless Room clean tidy and big enough Bathroom well fitted Breakfast brilliant (and I’m gluten intolerant)
Had a lovely stay at Castle Lodge hotel. A lovely room with a bath and very comfortable. I had a great dinner and breakfast and was surprised at the size of the dinner menu. I dont recall seeing so many choices at a hotel before and the meal i had was homemade from scratch. I will certainly stay there again if in the area .John
Incredible stay! Extremely welcoming, great facilities, comfy bed! Everything you could need.
Welcoming host who helped with luggage up two flights of stairs and was diligent in facilitating the service for all meals. Excellent food (breakfast and dinner) and comfortable room/bed. On-site parking in large car park. Some slight noise from nearby major road during the night.
Excellent base to explore Ross on Wye and surrounding area. Very friendly hosts, comfortable room, good food and all for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Castle Lodge Hotel is an old building with lots of charm. The welcome was warm and the room was very clean and comfortable with the ensuite up a few (steep) steps inside the bedroom door. It is conveniently situated close to the the town of Ross on Wye and not far from the main road to South Wales. My evening meal and breakfast the following morning was tasty, well presented and excellent value. It is worth saying again that as this is a characterful building there are steep stairs and some uneven floors, which might provide a challenge for some, but I would happily stay there again.
This is a great hotel with friendly and efficient staff. The location is excellent, being a short walk from the wonderful river Wye but with no road noise to spoil your sleep. We had three nights here and will definitely visit again.
Greta last minute stay - well looked after and located in a very convenient location. Outstanding food, especially the evening meal - much better than most local restaurants (IMHO) - such a pleasant surprise. Can't speak highly enough of the hospitality. A great stay!
A lovely hotel conveniently situated beside the a40 but within easy walking distance to the centre of ross-on wye and the river wye. Our bed and breakfast rate was great value; the breakfast was amazing with a large selection of hot and cold food and our en-suite room was beautifully furnished and with everything we needed. our hosts were friendly and full of local knowledge. We felt like home from home.
Everything about the hotel was positive and made our short stay most enjoyable.
Friendly and welcoming staff
Pleasant and friendly staff great breakfast bedroom is clean and tidy. would have no issues recommending the hotel
Friendly hotel, lots of stairs so need to be fit, friendly and comfortable
Lovely comfortable and friendly
Steve and Georgena very good host , breakfast and evening meals are excellent and hot and great choices. Very good place to stay with good parking as well , will be returning again .
The hotel has a warm friendly atmosphere. Location is excellent. Comfortable lodging.
Relaxed atmosphere throughout the stay. Excellent food and bar. Made very welcome from arrival to departure
Very fair place to be at !
Lovely stay in stunning area - food was straightforward, plentiful and delicious. Definitely recommend.
Position of hotel, although could be a little noisy due to closeness to dual carriageway, was convenient for a short and pleasant stroll into Ross on Wye, probably 15 mins walk.
We only needed a bed for the night as we were out all day. The people running the hotel could be seen to make sure you were happy with your stay and were very friendly. Convenient for us as it was in the right spot for the local area.
Well appointed room (8). Breakfast and evening meal very good. Made to feel welcome, by the hosts. Easy access to and from the A40 and walking into Ross on Wye along the river walk.
Lovely quaint hotel, wonderful staff lovely food, nice and clean, easy walking distance to main town
Welcoming great food comfortable very friendly. Would recommend it
A short weekend break that was made more enjoyable by the friendliness of the owners and staff.
Lovely modern room. Hotel accommodated my special request which was really kind of them.
Amazing bed&breakfast nothing was to much trouble amazing staff great room 10/10 will defiantly be going back
Fine
Very good service
Lovely hotel, great food and a good nights sleep
Great friendly place with good food and very comfortable. Could have done with a better shower but nice bath which I needed aftwr a longer cycle. Owner was very accomodating, letting me keep bike indoors despite wet.
Needed a couple of days relaxation and it was just the place for it, food was fantastic and the the hosts Helen and her Dad were inviting and friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The room was fine and bed was very comfy. First night there was an issue with the Gas in the kitchen so the dinner was cancelled but all guests were booked in elsewhere and we were even given a lift, we ate in the 2nd night and the food was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Our room was disappointing. 1. No bath tab, shower only. The door keep coming off. 2. Sink is in the room not inside bathroom. 3.fire exit sign on the door. So, when an emergency incident happened, everyone run through our room!? 4. The carpet in the bathroom was very old. 5. Breakfast room, ceiling was leaking. 6. I can hear foot steps above or outsides. I woke up middle of the night by that. But, I enjoyed fresh strawberries and cooked English breakfast every day.
Lovely stay, the room was lovely and the building in is quirky. The staff were very accomodating and even had gluten free bread for my breakfast. Only a 10 minute walk to town along the river (and up a hill). Only issue for me was there was only a bath and no shower attachment so had to go old skool with a jug to wash my hair but that was ok for a few days. Overall, lovely stay and would recommend
Great location for a river walk. Amazing room with a lovely view. Lovely breakfast
The hotel was great. The staff were professional and friendly. Rooms were clean and covid precautions were adhered to. I definitely recommend this hotel.
The photo is deceiving due to my room was on the second floor including additional steps in the bedroom to use the bathroom in the attic. Lots of difficult stairs when aged 76. The furnishings are old and tired.
We were welcomed warmly and the breakfasts were excellent. Our room was clean and comfortable with a very large bed and decent shower. Evening meals were good, well cooked and plentiful.
Fantastic experience from start to finish. Very friendly attentive hosts, beautifuly furnished room and fabulous breakfast- with a special mention for the superb, locally sourced bacon.
Wonderful location to see Ross on Wye and surrounding areas. The hotel was clean, bright and spacious. The host was perfect. All facilities were to a high standard and the on site restaurant and breakfast were to a very high standard. We will definitely re-book. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in
the code for the wifi did not work, we were without internet access for the whole stay
The Castle Lodge Hotel is a Georgian building with character (including squeaky floorboards). The hosts are excellent and the food and service at this traditional country hotel are good.
A great place to stay if fishing on the Wye or exploring the wonderful countryside. Fantastic service, nothing was too much and the food was great in both taste and value. Will be back next year.
The staff were excellent, very friendle and attentive. Evening meal was very good, with a varied menu and breakfast also very good. The building was very old, with steep stairs and low ceilings. It was in need of redecoration and could do with deep cleaning. Overall we enjoyed our stay in a convenient location with a helpful and friendly host.
Lovely place to stay, great food, comfortable and clean rooms. The hosts made us feel very welcome. The location was ideal with plenty of parking space. Would definitely stay again.
