Warm and comfy everything you could need and great food in the restaurant
Nothing
Food was lovely and staff were very friendly
Lovely old pub with flagstone floors with a good selection of beers etc. Wonderful views across the country side, Good breakfast and evening meal with very pleasant and helpful staff. Room was a little small but had everything we wanted. Plenty of parking spaces. This was just a stop on our way to Whitby
No problems for us.
Stunning location, although hair-raising to get to and from owing to the hill and windy roads. Pretty room (3), comfortable bed. Peaceful and quiet. Dinner and breakfast were tasty and good value.
Service could have been more welcoming on arrival and at dinner. Chap at breakfast was very friendly.
The location as a little hard to find but the pub/hotel is very attractive.
The room was a little small.
Comfortable rooms. Lovely meals and breakfasts. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Location was nice and quiet. Plenty of parking.
Nothing!
It’s was very clean and comfortable The staff were very friendly and polite
Nothing. It’s not a didn’t like more of a pointer Door hooks on the back of the bedroom door for wet Coats and maybe a bit of walk guide in the information folder as to where to walk with your dog if you’ve never been to the area before
The Alma Inn is in a truly stunning setting surrounded by lovely views of rural Yorkshire. Nice terrace to the front and covered area outside to the rear. It is very well supported by locals who surely come for the very good food. The staff are unfailingly pleasant and do all they can to ensure your stay is a good one. One fabulous Yorkshire lass took trouble to tell us about the local custom of 'Rush bearing' - transporting a fair maid on a cart surrounded by Morris Dancers!! Excellent Pub food with ample portions - the Chef clearly knows food. Both food and alcohol modestly priced. Room was a little compact and tended to be on the warm side but fans provided. Ample parking.
Be prepared for a bit of a climb to the property on a rural lane.
Great veiws unfortunately not from the . Food was very good
Poor lighting in room
Great location, beautiful surroundings
The bed was horrendous. Really uncomfortable.
The staff were amazing and so friendly as were the locals. The food was such good value and of good quality. Our room was above the pub yet so quiet with fluffy towels and comfortable beds
Nothing g everything was spot on
We had such a lovely time Everything was perfect a great location and lovely staff bedrooms and food
Top class stay - lovely room with a beautiful room, friendly staff, excellent evening meal and breakfast.
A minir point - the music in the dining area was rather loud, making conversation difficult.
The staff were so friendly and the room was very spaces. Good food and veiw
Very narrow roads on way in.
Great view from the inn and our room. Friendly and welcoming staff. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. Clean en suite and great shower. A lovely breakfast too.
The stairs to the rooms were in need of some tlc. The room was a little dusty in places.
The staff from the moment we arrived were truly fantastic extremely warm and welcoming indeed. The Alma Inn is a wonderful pub, restaurant and accommodation to stay at we wouldn't hesitate to stay again. We had a meal in the evening and the food was spot on, breakfast was also fab.
Nothing everything was perfect.
Very relaxed, very dog friendly, the location was perfect, was lovely to sit out in the sun. we ate from the bar menu and was good.
We booked room only and ordered breakfast on the day, only wish would have been to have brown/wholemeal bread with breakfast. that said the full breakfast was great.
4th visit to stay over - one of our favourites actually. Received great welcome from Pods, young guy who was friendly and helpful all through. All the staff were good actually. Nice quiet room and pleasant evening meal.
Nothing really.
How friendly the staff are, amazing food and really dog friendly
The property is in a lovely rural location, and there is lots of outdoor seating enabling you to enjoy the views. There is an outside bar and plenty of food to choose from the menu on offer.
Everything was lovely. Couldn’t fault it.
Remote location, good parking for motorcyclists
Fantastic accommodation rooms where perfect and the food and drink was great at a good price

All of the staff we were in contact with were lovely and very helpful, couldn’t fault them😊. The food was amazing, and the facilities downstairs (bar areas) were very good, and the views of the surrounding countryside were to die for😍.
However, we had to be given another room, as the bed in the room(5) we had chosen was broken and hadn’t been replaced. We were given room 7, and although it was a larger room with a big bathroom, the futon bed was very uncomfortable for an adult to sleep on as there was a dip along the middle making it very uncomfortable. I don’t think the room had been made up properly as the bathroom floor had a large sticky patch on it where something had been spilt, and there were no sheets, pillowcases etc for the futon, just a single pillow and duvet inside a musty wardrobe. For 2 nights it was ok, but couldn’t manage sleeping on the futon for any longer. The size of the room would easily take a proper single bed. Saying that, the view from the window was amazing, the room just needed a good clean, as it was a good size room and bathroom. Have stayed here quite a few times over the years, first time I haven’t slept well😐.
Comfortable bed.

Lovely setting
We loved the views from the pub garden. The food and drinks were so tasty and we really liked the location. Room was beautifully decorated and bed was comfy.
One major thing for us was that the room was overwhelmingly hot. Despite opening the windows and having a fan out I was still melting. Perhaps we were above the kitchen or they overdid it on the under floor heating? Also the greasy smell from the kitchen was quite hefty in the hallway and staircase but it didn't put a dampner on our night
Beautiful location. Tasty evening meals. Excellent shower room. Well equipped bedroom. Pleasant staff.
Bedroom was attractive but quite small with not much storage, and no under bed space. There was a heatwave and the room was very hot and airless, despite the fan.
The location and staff were great.
The room was cramped and extremely hot, mainly due to the weather and small windows in the room.
The room was lovely overall and the location was very quiet and picturesque. There was a nice atmosphere in the pub itself when we had food and the food was really nice, couldn't fault the staff or the pub at all.
The mattress was solid, me and my husband didn't sleep a wink, I'm not usually fussy when it comes to beds but the mattress was really too hard. The coffee cups in our room had also not been washed, there was dried coffee on both of the cups and coffee marks on the tray so I think the whole drinks station had been missed by the cleaning staff.
Fabulous size room, comfortable bed & a beautiful bathroom. View was great too. Breakfast was delicious with many choices.
The room was very warm even with a fan. The weather has been very hot so I guess in normal weather it’s absolutely fine.
excellent breakfast and dinner.
No lift, however stairs not very steep
The location is amazing and the staff excellent.
A few minor things were “just not as they should be “.
Would have preferred real fresh mushrooms but I am being picky.
It was a super hot night. Air conditioning would have been perfect, the owner has this in mind.
Absolutely beautiful place to stay! Even though it’s not far from civilization you would think you were in the middle of nowhere. Lovely old Inn. Rooms were perfect. Amazing outdoor seating space and outdoor undercover bar. Staff were fantastic. Food was good. We had breakfast, choice of cooked options was really good. The gent that served us was really good and friendly. The evening meal was very good and the pizzas were excellent. Fab place to stay!!
Nothing at all.
Great location. Amazing views. Very clean. Food was very good.
Very hot room. There was a heatwave on so made the most of the hotel supplied fans.
Booked this for my mum for a night - she couldn’t rave about it enough. Loved the bed, food, view from the hotel and outside space. Everyone was friendly and it felt like a proper escape
A little tricky to get to on the windy roads but more than worth it!
Beautiful, characterful, well proportioned rooms in a lovely countryside pub with fantastic views . Everywhere very clean, friendly welcoming helpful staff, & plenty of free parking. Great food & drinks in the bar. Breakfast cooked to order..
Nothing at all.
Great pub, with excellent food. Bedrooms clean, comfy beds and loads of hot water. Staff were excellent.
The pub is miles away from the town, we came by train so had to used Uber to get around
FIRST impressions from the car park were great. We were not disappointed inside with a nice friendly feel and loved the outside bar though it was not open when we were there but the beer garden was huge. The room andstairs and landing was nicely carpeted and our room had a stone wall with fireplace.Plenty of tea and coffe and the beds were comfy. The bathroom was great with a shower with bodywash, shampoo and conditioner.I went with my mate as we were on a annual walking trip but agreed it would be nice to take your partner there and eat in the restaurant and stop a night. All though saying that it we ventured out as maybe five or six miles to Halifax. Lovely scenary and just across the road was a public footpath.Could not fault our room and our experience.
The room was spacious and well appointed with an amazing view of the countryside, the bed was comfortable, everything you need in a room was there, the breakfast was superb, quality products make an excellent meal bravo chef.
The toilet was awkward to flush properly apart from that nothing to complain about at all.
Breakfast was lovely and plenty to choose from. Access to hotel is up very narrow lanes but great when you got to the end. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. All round a lovely stay and would recommend it.
Nothing.
Very beautiful pub....loved the location and room views 😍 great breakfast menu as well 😀
All was good...no complaints at all x
Lovely pub food great
Accomodating
All good, a lovely place to stay
Beautiful Inn, very scenic. Lovely homely pub vibes, and food. Rooms are well equipped. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed on the hottest day of the year and our family bedroom was above the kitchen, it was like being in the actual oven. Our room had a fan and i did ask for an extra fan but unfortunately this wasn't much use. Air con in the rooms would of be ideal for the warmer/summer days.
Friendly and very helpful staff. Option to add on breakfast if you wanted. Stunning location
Staff we're excellent from start to finish. Food was excellent
location for views is very nice and staff are very good. good selection of food and drinks.
difficult to travel to with single lanes and for some reason I could hear some pumps or chiller's making noises through out the night. maybe something that's broken or needs attention. But overall is a good little place to stop
Great staff. Great location and awesome food.
Location is amazing
Great place, they love dogs, great location and amazing food.
Absolutely fantastic and what a deal the dinner bed and breakfast is!!!!
Nothing
Downstairs ,location and staff all great
We had a family room , that in my opinion should not be let out , it was so hot , not reflecting the weather which was cool . They had two fans in the room so obviously know this is an issue , it’s directly above the kitchen and they have a cupboard door next to the bed in the eves that later in the evening had smells coming out into the room of all the frying from the kitchen you could actually see the steam coming through . The heat and smell was so unpleasant . There was a futon which was grubby looking and would not want to pull out for any child . Safety wise there was a metal walk way or balcony outside the window and when we were going to sleep we were unable to lock the windows . ( By this times the kitchen had closed down so the heat coming up from there and smells were no longer invading the room ) So we had to sleep with a window open that was a potential safety issue . Also of concern was the amount of extension leads plugged into one another . However the bathroom was good and clean . But this room should not be available for guests due to the heat and smells from the kitchen it’s in my opinion not fit for purpose they charged 99.00 for the room which is not really acceptable as it was over all quite grubby looking . It’s a shame as I’ve stayed here before in another room which was the same price but a much higher standard .
Beautiful setting/views. Friendly/attentive staff. Delicious food.
Beautiful location staff all friendly and helpful breakfast was amazing
Stunning location, friendly welcoming staff, good food and beer, comfy room and the best shower I’ve ever had in a hotel!
Nothing to dislike
The food was exceptional
Clean room and dog friendly
The room was unbearably hot, very poor night sleep
The staff are very helpful and friendly, good choice of food at breakfast and dinner for vegetarians, lovely decor and furnishings, comfy beds and great shower. The Alma Inn is very dog friendly, it's a pity there's not more places to walk the dog from the door, if you want a long walk. The narrow roads up to the village could be a test of nerves if a bus or tractor was coming!
Lovely food and service
Bed was uncomfortable
Nice location but felt isolated
No chairs in room had to sit on bed bar was closed early
Staff were excellent. They even rang to ask if we were eating that night because tables were getting booked. Very thoughtful... Breakfast was nice (scrambled eggs on toast)
Ensuite was very cramped and the floor was really dirty
Excellent location great view's really great staff excellent food
Fantastic food and atmosphere,
Breakfast and evening meal were both very good. Staff were freindly and helpful.
TV reception was poor.
Absolutely fabulous! This is how hospitality should be.. a privately owned pub in quite a remote location which serves great, fresh food with great staff supported by local customers.. We stayed for 2 nights, rooms 3 &7, both with great views, really clean & faultless .. you can even get a bucket of ice from the bar for drinks in your room ! Thank you for our stay, we will definitely return again .. such great value for money too, thank you
Nothing
The breakfast was delicious and the views from our bedroom window were lovely
No fruit juice readily available
Very lovely stay. Really enjoyed the food both nights and staff were so friendly & helpful.
It was a little noisy on an evening down at the bar and corridor when I was trying to sleep as I stayed for business purposes & needed to sleep. Another room had their TV on very loud until around 1/2am and could hear them talking early in the morning too which woke me up before my alarm so the first nights stay wasn’t as pleasant in terms of noise. The second night was a little better oddly as it was a Friday evening I was expecting it to be the same or even louder.
fantastic breakfast and coffee
Clean, comfortable and good value. Friendly and helpful staff. We didn't eat at the pub as we were going to a wedding but the food looked good. Great bar area.
No dislikes
A proper country pub, but so well run with excellent staff!
This place is a real gem and definitely surprised us - in a good way! It is nestled on a Yorkshire hillside with beautiful views across the valley. We arrived about 4pm on Good Friday and the whole place was buzzing. The bar and restaurant were full but, despite being very busy, the staff immediately made time for us and made us feel very welcome. The room was lovely - exactly as you see on the photos. We had a walk around the immediate vicinity on the morning after our night’s stay and it really is gorgeous, with streams and stone buildings and stunning views. It also became clear that there is more to The Alma than we realised with a big outside bar and seating area. Dogs are welcome too. We would definitely stay there again. Oh, and when you see the other reviews saying that the breakfast is superb….you can believe them. It was! Overall it was a great night away and the staff were fabulous. Give The Alma a try - you won’t be disappointed!
Our only minor comment is that we felt the pillows and bed were a little hard but this is totally our own preference and definitely not a complaint.
Before check in we had a meal. The food was unbelievable. Really really good quality
Room was so cosy. Beautiful decor just far too warm with heating on
The location. The staff, the breakfast and the view from the shower was amazing
Very hard bed
Staff great, contacted me to seecif I wanted to book a table for food on the evening which I felt was a great and thoughtful touch as they didn't need to do that. Very welcoming also with our dog. Food excellent.
Was a little noisy but that should be expected in the pub environment
Excellent food, staff were really nice and very helpful. A very nice experience.
If I had to pick one thing, matress was too soft, but appreciate some people prefer that, so its a personal preference so its just a nit pick and did not impact my stay in the slightest.
The service was fantastic, felt very welcomed ,the room was great ,the bed was super comfy ,and the food was so good .
