Rooms were a good size and beds were comfy.
Difficult to find staff to buy drinks or find out information. Tea and coffee, booked for the function room, had to be chased and the bar was closed early without any notification to our group.
I thought all the staff were friendly and considerate. The room was good. Restaurant and breakfast was good. An added bonus was we were allowed to change our clothes in a room after we had checked out before going to Glyndebourne and were not charged extra parking. Altogether a good experience.
Nothing
Convenient for town and where I needed to be the next day. Breakfast was good.
Bed cover stained, blood on pillow case and shower door was revolting. Barman didn't appear to be very experienced as when I asked a question about the wine he said you're asking the wrong person!
Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was varied & tasty. Manager was very helpful after the receptionist assigned us an upstairs room even though my wife was obviously using a mobility scooter. Well-equipped room. with a proper opening window and a second door that opened directly to the car park which add plenty of spaces.
Although breakfast was good, it could have ideally been a little hotter. The description on Booking.com describes the entire unit on the ground floor.... although this is true for some rooms, perhaps it could be mentioned as there is no lift available, hence the confusion over our room.
The hotel was a perfect location for where I needed to be, and is a short walk from the main town centre. It's not a modern hotel, and doesn't come with all the glamour, but certainly serves it's purpose if you're just needing a bed for the night. It was very clean, the bed was very comfy, and the bathroom was lovely and modern with a great shower and I had everything I needed. I would say it is a little pricey at £120/night, in comparison to where I have stayed elsewhere, but I did well and booked it on Booking.com for £98 with my genius discount. I had also booked a single room and was given a double room.
My only comment would be making it feel a little more modern, but without losing its internal character.
Convenient for our stay
Very hot and fans were not very good!
Staff were friendly and the rooms were pleasant if a little too warm
Air conditioning is needed in these rooms during such hot weather.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. The original part of the hotel is lovely, with lots of character and history. The bed was comfortable and, although some of the bedroom furniture was quite dated, the bathroom was modern and clean with shampoo and body wash provided.
There was occasionally a noticeable smell of stale cigarette smoke in our bedroom, which wasn’t pleasant. The room was also very hot overnight and there was no information to say that it had air conditioning. We only discovered the air-con remote the following morning, which was frustrating as it would have made the night much more comfortable. The hotel is on a busy A road and traffic noise is noticeable.
Staff were lovely and friendly. Our evening meal was very good
Norhing
Great beds, and breakfast
Nothing
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, quick to act and resolve the issue with the bathroom. The room itself was comfortable and contained everything expected.
The standard of cleanliness could , however , have been better. It seemed rather perfunctory cleaning of bathroom floor and carpet, dusty surfaces and window sill.
Chambre spacieuse, lit confortable, petit déjeuner copieux.
Staff really helpful and, the air con and fan in 34°+ heat. Much improved since I last stayed.
If I were Goldilocks, I'd say the breakfast tables were too high...or the seats too low..or maybe I'm too short...who knows?
The location was close to where I needed to be, early the next morning. The staff were pleasant. The breakfast was delicious.
The room had a strange smell & wasn't very clean either. The extra charge for my toy breed dog, especially after the cost of the room! The bed was horrendously uncomfortable & hard! The TV squealed when plugged in & the kettle was filthy!
Walking distance from station. Big bath and plenty of hot water. Excellent breakfast.
Convenient to where we were going to an event. Good easy parking
Our room was small and at the very top, 3rd floor. Lots of stairs
We has a room with air con, which was really needed. The room was small but comfortable. Free parking. Great breakfast. Friendly and welcoming.
A fridge would have been great but we knew this was not mentioned aa part if the room.
Breakfast was a standard, good English breakfast. Ordered the night before, it was slightly cheaper than it I’d ordered it in the morning.
The shower was difficult to regulate. Maybe I’m stupid, but it wasn’t simple. Too hot, then too cold. Ate steak and chips in the restaurant - reasonable though not rare enough for me and no Dijon mustard.
Friendly staff on arrival and leaving
All was good
The atmosphere at the Birch is friendly and accommodating The entire experience was superb
Location
Location was ideal. Excellent breakfast. Good value for money.
Lovely hotel.brilliant helpful staff.
Bit isolated
Comfortable spacious rooms, pleasant public areas, large car park.
The room was light, spacious and cool (as it had an aircon unit). Had free parking.
We stayed as we were attending an event at Plumpton, so did not stay in the hotel other than to sleep, so not really got any negative comments as did for us what we needed.
Good breakfast
Fairly basic room but it had AC
Bar closed early and no facility for an early chick in.
Free parking, clean hotel, food on sight , plenty of space to relax in lounge areas
Breakfast it starts at 7 I leave at 6:30 For work
The staff was very friendly they always help and was very happy and smiling
The room was unbearable hot did not get any sleep I know they had a fan but it did not do anything to help with the heat
Lovely staff, very helpful. Close to venue we were visiting. Good to have air-conditioning in the bedroom.
It's a bit dated. Bath was a bit squeaky
The bathroom was modern, clean and had good shower.
The walls are very thin and the tea selection in the room was poor. No herbal teas offered.
Location was great for getting around the area. Plenty of parking places, easy to find.
Friendly staff, easy to park.
Plug sockets and bit weird and outdated. Door draught excluder kept falling off. Bathroom a bit dated and my room looked directly at the dining area sp couldn't leave my curtains or blinds open.
The location is out of Haywards Heath itself but is only a 20 minute walk from the centre so away from the bustle and close enough for a stroll into town.
Minimal effort on vegetarian choices
Nice and clean very pleasant and helpful staff
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free parking for staying guests.
There was nothing to dislike.
The hotel lacked a lift. Bathroom fittings were OK but required effort to operate. This was minor.
Clean air conditionec
Breakfast . Queue to make coffee|tea . Bread ran out to make toast . Cooked breakfast ran out . Lack of tables for 2 people .
Stayed for one night with friends, the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and allowed us to check in early. The rooms were a good size and the bathrooms were very modern. There is ample parking and are bus links nearby and it's a 25 min walk to the station.
Nothing!
Handy carpark, walkable distance to the train station if you’re fit enough, great shower
Very outdated hotel, not very comfortable room. We were in room 215 and the aircon was leaking water on the carpet and it was really wet on one side and the room smelled really damp and not nice. The aircon made loud noises sometimes too. We were on the first floor and weren’t offered to use a lift, only stairs (I’m not sure if there is a lift), staff were nice but didn’t do anything about the wet carpet and damp smell.
Breakfast was fine. Location good
Bodywork dispenser was not working.
Had a lovely evening meal in the bar with good choice of menu.Staff very attentive and pleasant. Good breakfast. Good stopover point for our trip so ideal location.
In a ground floor room which I wasn't keen on as I like the Windows open but there was a air cooler in the room which was a bonus so not so bad.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel had good free parking. Breakfast was good. Rooms were adequate, and the bed comfortable. The shower had a good water flow. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Petrol station right next door was handy for supplies.
Room 304 was very warm, and safety catch prevented being able to fully open windows. The supplied fan helped circulate the warm air! Leaving the room when housekeeping were in action was interesting- bedding, towels, mops and buckets strewn all over the corridors - forcing you to step over everything - a bit of a trip hazard really - was a bit ‘faulty towers”!
Air con, comfortable bed Quiet Parking Bar
Nothing
Value for money and lots of original features
Clean and comfortable beds. Very hot in room, and due to location on roundabout too noisy to have window open. Staff friendly and helpful, decent breakfast.
Very hot in room and location on road
Good access to hospital
Sorry nothing
Very tired , boiling hot despite a weather warning - very old fan put in room ! Contacted property through bookings they chose not to reply !
great location for an event at the showground with plenty of safe parking.
Very small room. But probably my fault as I didn't realise what is described as a 'standard double' on here is actually the hotels 'cosy double'.
Good sized room with a comfortable bed. AC was a bonus. Great location for exploring West Sussex
Great location and I loved the fresh air from the windows
N/A
Location. Comfy bed.
No rubber mat in very slippery shower Cooked breakfast very overcooked, eggs like rubber and black around edges. Generally tasteless. Reception staff (1 in particular) very surly
The bedroom was comfortable
On the 2nd night when my wife asked for tea it was in a cup with the teabag still in the mug while the 1st night when we asked for tea she received a pot of tea and also complimentary biscuits
Clean, comfortable well stocked room. Nice bar and restaurant. Excellent buffet breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. Plenty of free parking.
Seating in the Bistro restaurant is a bit limited if you don’t want to watch the tv.
Great hotel great bar staff and restaurant
The man on the reception was so miserable and rude not like the usual lady not impressed
I absolutely loved this place. The location is fantastic, the staff are incredibly friendly and professional, and the breakfast was simply amazing. I had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend it to anyone. Thank you for the excellent hospitality!
The only downside during my stay was the room on the first floor. Unfortunately, there was quite a lot of noise day and night, which I believe came from the kitchen or refrigeration equipment. Also, the air conditioning in my room didn't seem to be working. Apart from that, everything else was excellent, and I truly enjoyed my stay.
Nice looking hotel
good breakfast
Good size room, comfortable bed, best benefit, Air Conditioning,
Selection of drinks at the bar, otherwise o k.
The communal rooms, the bar area and reception are lovely. The gentleman on reception was good
Our room was incredibly small for a double which meant that it was like a cauldron when we entered. We had to open both windows and prop the door open to let cooler air in. The fan provided was inadequate and we ended up bringing our own fan in from the car. I appreciate that you can do nothing about the weather, but I'm surprised no member of staff had noticed how bad it was and maybe passed this on. I also assumed the hotel was full, but judging by the car park I don't think that could have been the case, in which case a bigger room could have been used. The hotel is a good location for us and we were happy with our last visit so it was a shame this was such a difficult visit.
Very friendly staff
No lift, no ac and desperately in need of updating. The water in the shower was so hard to regulate that I could not shower properly. The room was so hot along with a party happening also that I had very little sleep.
Lovely old building. Good coffee.
Expensive for what we got for our money No breakfast included Abrupt staff
Comfy bed, spotlessly clean, welcoming staff and (in this heat) lovely air-conditioning - what's not to like.
room perfect !! lovely to come down to breakfast with attentive ,helpful staff ,and above all a lovely hot breakfast !! well done all !!
lift would have helpful but design of building help that request!!
The staff was lovely and very attentive to all our needs. The pub serves very good diners and drinks!
Our room was clean, well stocked and had a comfortable bed. A fan was also provided. The room was a bit small though. Bar and restaurant were ok, breakfast was very good with a good selection of hot and cold food.
Our room was a bit cramped for the money and faced onto the roundabout so was a bit noisy. Unlike some hotels though, the windows did open and a fan was provided.
It was great value for money. Used as a stop over for a party (not at the hotel) so only used it for a bed and a shower.
The room was quite tight if it was needed for a longer stay.
Air conditioning in room
Restaurant not open on Tuesday I arrived and offered bar area, it was not good, very large TV screen blaring out, very basic tables and the fish and chips, barely warm and peas cold, were not enjoyed. There was constantly nobody manning the bar as the one person was going to kitchen and serving food. Several people walked out. I wanted a glass of Malbec but said I could only have it if I bough a bottle! Asked for the popular Tanqueray gin and they did not know of it. Asked for the popular Fever Tree, tonic looked blank and said only Schweppes. Ate in restaurant on Wed evening with 7 colleagues, no one else in the restaurant so no atmosphere and the food was not enjoyed. I had salad niçoise and the green beans were rock hard. Very disappointing.
The reception lady was exceptional. The rooms were fabulous. Meal was really great. A lovely relaxing hotel
Professional staff,friendly,spacious
The staff are very helpful.l and the room was very clean.also the food was very good.
Nothing
Tha bar was convenient the breakfast was good.
Need to work on the vegi option poor.
Great staff, location and cleanliness.
Could do with aircon on hot days
Good selection for breakfast but buffet food not very hot
Everything was ok
Aircon and dinner superb excellent waitress very attentive
All good xxx
Fin beliggenhet. Stor parkeringsplass.
Denne etasjen burde vært stengt for besøkende i denne varmen. Ingen aircondion.
room was clean and fresh...also has air con...bonus
Clean and tidy
Breakfast was extremely poor, no choice of healthy options just cooked breakfast or continental
Clean and fresh decor.
I was woken at 5am by the air conditioning system on the roof outside and wasn't able together back to sleep.
Booked here to visit the Bluebell steam line for dinner and nearby Nymans National Trust property. We came with friends. The hotel is ideally located for many excursions. Friendly welcome. Rooms both suitable. Lovely breakfast.
Fair selection for breakfast except fried eggs were overcooked on both occasions. Waitress very helpful in finding some oat milk for cereal.
Ground floor room was quite small with twin beds, the duvets were very thick possibly winter ones which were not pleasant in the current warm temperatures. Unfortunately, the room was next to the staff room which meant there was a lot of talking very late at night and early in the morning! There was no walk in shower only one over the bath which was a challenge even with the grab rails supplied, ie trying not to slip again.
Convenient
Staff lovely
Comfortable enough room. Was very appreciative of the bottle of water everyday. View wasn’t very exciting, but it was a lovely quiet room. Beautiful Hotel
Carpet could have done with a hoover half way through.
it wasnt a tent
there is nothing i didnt like. i loved it
Ligging aan een druk kruispunt. Geen voortreffelijk restaurant.
Staff were excellent
Loft rooms should not be used when it’s high temperature weather
Room was lovely, staff were helpful.
The restaurant is never open so only able to eat in the bar. With a very basic choice. Have stayed before so now eat out.
Breakfast was great...
Staff not aware of gluten free options at breakfast..asked if hash browns gluten free... staff went to look but didnt really know on return....maybe some gluten free options schar do a nice croissant and single sachet cornflakes...bread was tiny and only toasted on one side
Very friendly, helpful staff. Willingly moved us to a quieter room. Comfortable room and v pleasant public areas.
Only the WiFi - no one's fault but the hotel was experiencing some difficulty at the time.
Location
The cleanliness of this hotel is much to be desired. Filthy kettle and remote control The air conditioning is noisy and sounds like a clapped out taxi.
Ease of access.
Busy traffic - hardly your doing, though.
Extremely friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Clean room. Lovely breakfast. I travelled with my 15 week old puppy and the staff were so accommodating with him. I will definitely be booking with them again!
Nothing!
everything
nothing
Parking very convenient.
Evening meal was very disappointing: 'sliced beef tomato' was one thin slice of tomato, 'gem lattice' was one leaf, 'chicken burger' was three small bits of chicken and 'sriracha sauce' was a bit of colouring on a roll.
