We had the most wonderful stay at the Arasi Resort!! The resort manager, Ian, visited with us personally each day to make sure all of our activities (kite surfing, trips to town) went smoothly. He is very knowledgeable and we learned so much about the local culture from our chats with him. Because this is a smaller, boutique style hotel, they can really make any arrangements you desire - I had the feeling that nothing was too big or small of an ask for the resort team. From an amazing boat trip into Wilpattu, to taking us to three different banks and calling in the bank manager for help when we had an issue with our ATM card, the staff at Arasi truly understand hospitality! Some top highlights for us was the fresh, locally caught seafood dinners each night (some of the best food I have eaten anywhere!) and the beautiful views of the lagoon right outside our bungalow. I highly recommend this resort!!!
Nothing could have been done to improve our experience! Maybe a better road to reach the resort but they are working on that, and we didn’t want to leave the property anyway!

The place was nearly new, the rooms and the view was good. The service staff were also pretty good.
The manager scammed us badly! He asked us to cancel the booking for a technicality, said he'll give me a good deal and then swindled me good.. he charged me almost double for everything. He charged me 1800 rupees for a plate of pineapple that had 8 pieces of pineapple. Then charged me the price of a 1l ice cream tub for 1 scoop of ice cream -- when we asked him about it be started arguing with us. And then played an emotional game with us by saying since we're questioning about it, he'll reduce it from the staff salary. This is definitely not the way to manage the resort. He will run it to the ground if he continues the same way. The owners should be made aware of this.
Mooie kamers/huisjes
Menukaart is klein/beperkt.
The rooms were as described and shown in the pictures.
Communication with staff and owners was difficult. Services that were promised weren’t performed (e.g. exchange of broken lock). The breakfast was only average. The price for the dinner option was not worth the value. This place can only be recommended if your sole purpose is kitesurfing.
The manager, Ian, is very helpful in handling all details and arranging personalized boat tours around the lagoon and to the islands. He also can arrange tuktuk and cars with drivers, which is necessary because the property is remote and a bit difficult to find. Pradeep is a helpful room and kitchen assistant and can also give massages on request. The villas are beautifully decorated in an industrial style and are very comfortable. The lagoon-fronting villas are literally 10 steps from the sea. The meals are off-the-menu. Ian asks what you'd like to eat and then prepares it; your choices aren't limited to a set menu. Overall, the stay was delightful and relaxing despite all of the rain in late November.
The hotel presently doesn't accept credit cards, which was a significant hardship in my case. I love the open-sky bathroom concept, but if you visit during the rainy season, it means you're sitting on the toilet in the rain. On the other hand, taking a shower in the rain is delightful.
Generally, pretty good stay and a very nice location - we would go back.
We booked it due to the kite centre, but the kite centre was closed and the space to launch a kite was really minimal. In addition, the resort had no boat to cross the lagoon. The manager started WhatsApping me and sent some unwanted/unprofessional messages - it was a little inconvenient but not too major. We quite liked the rooms although the beds weren’t very comfortable and curtains were non-existent.
Our stay at Arasi Resort was very pleasant. We highly recommend choosing the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast – it’s a real treat for the taste buds. The staff, especially the manager, were incredibly friendly and always willing to help. The rooms are comfortable, and the open-ceiling bathrooms are a unique pleasure. The resort offers stunning views over the Kalpitiya Lagoon.
Never ever have I thought that during our world journeys I will find the place so close to paradise in each aspect! From the very beginning you feel like home! The hotel is so arranged that you find a beautiful detail in every corner, although most is round :) The couple from Sweden, Carolina and Roland who manage the hotel are the best! They helped us a lot. First of all they speak English fluently! Before, in every hotel that was a problem for us. The owners didn't speak English, or it was really hard to get them. Carolina and Roland feel and understand the guests so well! We will never forget the movie night with popcorn! Thank you so much! Then it's much, much easier to arrange anything: from money exchange, ice cream and coconuts to tuk tuks or short and long trips as well as small and deep talks ;) The place is created to relax either after busy travels around the island or just from the work at home. Here is a list of all we loved: lots of places to hide and relax in peace like hammocks, lovely benches with ocean view, the pool, yoga and reception spots with cushions and wifi spots :), silence, the restaurant with fantastic Ravi and other boys, the most comfortable beds!, breakfasts with Nescafe coffee, fresh juice every day, coconuts, yummy ice cream and fantastic seafood dinners, cleanliness, birds singing, mornings and evenings and above all the atmosphere of the place, possibility to jog to town, volleyball and soccer pitches 10min walk from the hotel, great restaurants around in Kalpitiyia and Kudawa with its best Windy Waves! We also went there for kitesurfing. The kite school is at the hotel with its best instructors: Jeevan and Aarus! Thanx guys for every day and especially for the Kite trip to Wella Island! Special thanks to Luke and Ben ;)
Charmant ingericht!
I truly loved the peaceful atmosphere, which creates the perfect setting to enjoy a morning coffee by the lagoon, unwind after kitesurfing, or simply relax with a delicious meal at the café. What really makes this place special is the amazing staff — always smiling and ready to help. I especially want to highlight Ansalees, the young administrator, who manages to maintain a warm and friendly relationship with his team while creating an unforgettable experience for guests. A special mention also goes to Jeewan for the excellent kitesurfing lessons. If you're ready to try kitesurfing, this place is definitely paradise. Ashen always served with a big smile and made sure the food arrived on time, adding to the overall great experience. And last but not least, there is Chathuranga — often behind the scenes, but working hard every day to keep the surroundings beautiful. Thanks to his efforts, the blooming plants and well-maintained environment make this place even more enjoyable.
The only thing I felt was missing during my stay was a bit more variety at breakfast. For example, it would have been wonderful to have some wholesome gluten-free porridge options, such as buckwheat or certified gluten-free oats. If there were mozzarella with tomatoes, or a ricotta or cottage cheese in the morning, it would be just perfect. Additionally, I missed having better coffee choices in the morning — a good Italian-style coffee or a cappuccino made with almond milk (for a lactose-free option) would have been a perfect addition. I also believe the kitesurfing equipment could use some updates. On lighter wind days, there were no bigger kites available, and one of the kites had a torn sail. Furthermore, the kitesurfing boots were clearly worn out and in need of replacement.
Comfortable rooms, terrific food, attentive and friendly staff and a charming host. Very relaxed vibe, while all our needs were promptly attended to. The view of the lagoon is lovely and we had beautiful sunsets every night we were there.
It was a bit difficult to find.
Although hard to get to by normal car (a jeep would be better) the location on the side of the lagoon is wonderful, you really feel like you are away from the modern world. The team there were very jolly, although it was a bit chaotic. If you like the hippy-vibe you'll love this place!
The food was not great - we had booked half board and were instructed our only option was pizza (even though our driver - a local - was served rice & curry, which is what we asked for). Everything was a bit chaotic, with the team not seeming to know answers to any questions.
The room / own cabin was nice
The entire place is run by 14-16 year old boys, they don’t know anything about hospitality or making any form of food. Asking for cigarettes and so much more, it’s just annoying to be there and the road to come there is awful, even for Sri Lanka standards.. high tide is just the first possible obstacle, before arriving that is
The staff was exceptional
The access road was very bad
Really lovely vibe away from any hustle and bustle. The staff were exceptional catering to every need. Gevan, the kitesurfing instructor, was fantastic. We went to a little party outside of the accommodation and he took care of us the whole time. Great for relaxing and kite surfing. I'd highly recommend.
Nothing
Clean quiet and friendly staff
Nothing to dislike
Location and breakfast was Excellent. But the reaching road is difficult to recognize in google maps and the road was not suitable to small vehicles like cars.
Reaching road and the location on the google maps.
Calm and relaxing
It is in a beautiful location. There was beautiful scenery and sunset . So relaxing. Kind and helpful staff. Specially Amila was very nice.
Staff is really friendly and accommodating. Resort has a really good scenery and good facilities. Has a chill relax vibe to the place. Planning to visit again.
The road to the resort is bit difficult to travel in a low ground clearance vehicle.
Beautiful location. Excellent facilities. Staff are lovely, kind and helpful. My got to use the kayaks free of charge.
Not much, can’t really help the surroundings outside of the property…dirt and litter.
Beautiful and relaxing

Breakfast was OK. Location was hard to find and was not exactly as described on the website.
Availability of pop, drinks and snacks.
New resort directly on the lagoon. Great bungalows. Clean, comfortable and well furnished. With private veranda. The breakfast was more than ample. We ate there in the evening. Reasonable prices for the more than good dinner. Very friendly and helpful staff. The resort is quite far away at the end of a dusty road. The manager organises transport to the main road.
The design and layout of the resort is exceptional, its really is quite beautiful. The location is pretty cool, the beds were really comfortable, the breakfast was excellent. Our bungalow was gorgeous. Dealing with the resort through Booking.com was great, they were highly receptive and quick to respond to any query, helped us out with a driver (who was excellent).
Be aware you cant really swim in the lagoon and the pool is chest high at best. There was one staff member who was quite helpful, but sadly thats where it ended. The staff who were there played their music pretty loud and pretty late - we were the only guests at the time, so it may be that they felt they had some extra leeway as there wasnt anyone else to look after. Trying to get cold drinks - they had to go to the market to get, and cant get a coffee or tea in the morning as nobody was there to help until about 9am (so just be aware if you are an early riser)
The property is remote… It’s the perfect place to write a book. Having said that there’s tons to do if you’d like, kites surfing, or boating… You can visit historic sites… Sunset on the Indian Ocean is very serene. The staff will love you and take care of you as if you were their own family. The professional chef will make the best, fresh seafood you’ve ever had! FRESH/alive beforr cooking.
Location. Other guests pleasant. Quiet setting .Good food. from Ian despite him being overwhelmed with requests.Great place to kite surf.
Inattention to food preferences. Ants, cats & dogs.at dining tables. Lack of kayaks, and those available were in unsafe condition.inadvisability of swimming at their beach due to mud, seaweed, and crustaceans with spines.
Unique and modern set up. Well thought out chalet set up - very clean.
Only minor things: No toiletries eg: shampoo or body lotions etc Some items on menu were not available at the restaurant but can be managed.
It is a boutique resort that you can enjoy yourself in quiet surrounding
Luke the owner was superb! His vision for the property is truly inspirational. The atmosphere, vibe, service & professionalism was first class. Food was delicious. We gave the chef free reign to cook for us. We were not disappointed! Fish, prawns, incredible soups, curry, freshly made naan bread. We felt very spoilt! The property has been designed with love and care. The views! We loved all the finer details on display. The location is a knock-out! Right on the lagoon. What a magic spot to kite surf & do a range of water sports. Luke and his staff can cater for everyone’s needs. Can’t forget to mention the bed! Divine! Lovely linen. Gorgeous outdoor shower too. My husband and I travel a lot. And have stayed in too many places to count. What we love about Asari is the love that has been put into designing & creating this resort. It’s special. If you want to arrive to a beautiful unspoilt location with the warmest of smiles & services then you will love this place! Truly a very memorable experience. Sad to leave, but we will return. 5 stars!!!!
Nothing.
Of all my years of traveling I have never found such a beautiful place that incorporates such a perfect blend of creativity, stunning nature, fresh sea air, incredible views, rustic charm. This resort has a magic of its own that provides guests with the deepest sense of calm and relaxation. The staff are exceptionally helpful and greet you with a smile and warmth making you feel comfortable and welcome, nothing is too much trouble. The on-site chef provides delicious food and excellent value for money and will tailor to your requirements happily. The cabanas are beautifully designed combining comfort with nature. We stayed in the family room which was well thought out and perfect for our family of four providing a very good sized living space. We took several excursions by boat and would highly recommend the mangroves trip, swimming in the most natural source of lazy river was a fabulous experience for us all and unique memories that will stay with us and our children. We can’t wait to go back to this truly stunning haven.
Nothing
The breakfast was outstanding. The activities provided by the hotel was spot on, especially Kayaking. Would highly recommend this place.
I absolutely loved the beautiful beachfront location, with a relaxed vibe and stunning views of the lagoon from the bar deck. The accommodations were comfortable, with a cozy bed and cool AC. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making my stay enjoyable.
I recently stayed at Arasi Resort and had a fantastic time! The location was breathtaking and the staff were friendly and attentive, making sure I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay and made me feel right at home with their laid-back, friendly attitude. The accommodation was clean, spacious, and had a lovely view of the ocean. The stunning sunset views were unlike I have ever seen before. The atmosphere was so relaxing and serene, and I felt completely rejuvenated during my stay. I’ll for sure be back for a longer stay.
