Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We loved our stay at this very nice guesthouse. It was clean, the staff were friendly, and the food was good. The location was beautiful. Thanks for a nice stay!
Great place with really good food and super nice staff!
Receptionist excellent
Veldig koselig sted hyggelig pesonale. Unikt sted
Pensionatet ligger lite avsides i en liten by nära vattnet.
My wife likes this hotel very much. Because the price is reasonable, I think this is a very good hotel.
Absolutely stunning hotel. We had a three course meal that was also very good. Can recommend.
Stunning place we didnt want to leave.
Amazing location, so beautiful and serene. The food was delightful! We would stay for longer if we had the chance. Loved it!
Fabulous boutique hotel - highly recommend, great dinner and breakfast, terrific staff
The hotel is situated in the quiet village of Norddal and was a convenient stopping point after visiting Geiranger. Communication ahead of arriving was terrible, we counted four unanswered emails and an internet search indicates falsely that the hotel is ‘temporarily closed’. They eventually answered one of our messages to provide some comfort that the hotel was actually open but further questions about the dinner remained unanswered. They seemed unconcerned about the internet advice The hotel is a heritage building. Beautifully laid out and decorated. We had a room overlooking the river and whilst small was okay for an overnight stay. Facilities in the room are limited and the shower in the bathroom is over a cast iron bath with no glass cover or curtain but everywhere was spotlessly clean. Our meal was so-so. It is a three-course meal starting at 20.00 but food delivery is incredibly slow with the main meal served at 20.50 after a cold starter. Food portions also quiet small for the cost involved. They were able to offer a fish alternative for the main course for non-red meat eaters which we only sorted out on arrival due to communication problems. We were still happy with our stay but we get the impression the place really needs to have a good hotel manager to provide some organisation.
Beautiful, but upgraded inn. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good.
Stunning location and impeccable service. Feltblijecaxrealvgurstvhousecrathercthan a hotel. Meals were lovely and all round a wonderful stay
Absolutely wonderful place - away from the crowds, so peaceful and elegantly decorated! The staff were so attentive and helpful. Breakfast was so delicious! I highly recommend this place
Front desk staff is very helpful. My husband's ankle was strained. Front desk lady was helping us to call doctor and provided us ice and pain killer. My husband and I are really appreciate her great help.
Nicest place we stayed during our 3 weeks in Norway. The location is idyllic and property exceptionally charming. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent and our host was a delight
This was probably my favorite hotel stay ever. Petrine’s Guesthouse was wonderful and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. The free breakfast was lovely and the optional dinner was exceptional. Five stars all the way.
This guesthouse is superb, if you are looking for a place with soul, friendly staff, a really great breakfast, comfortable beds in a quiet calm location this is the place for you!
super vriendelijke medewerkers
Check in late without having dinner. Unfortunately, the hotel restaurant has already closed. Ana helps a lot, serve us boiled eggs and breads. The hotel is a nicely decorated old building.
Alles super
Very lovely place, away from the hustle and bustle. We are very happy with the stay at this guesthouse!
Very lovely place, away from the hustle and bustle. We are very happy with our stay at this guesthouse!
Top verblijf
Lovely guesthouse in a beautiful, quiet spot, but within striking distance of Geiranger,(approx 1/2 hour drive), so we were able to use this as a base for activities we'd planned in Geiranger and then retire to the peace and quiet in the evenings. Friendly staff; great breakfast; exceptionally comfy bed; option for dinner in the evenings too - we really enjoyed our 2 night stay during our Norway tour!
A beautiful property. inside and out. Everything was done with a special touch.. the guest book in the bedroom, the nice menus, cute little handwritten place cards, and all the messages left throughoit. Dinner was nice, especially the trout salad. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful and made a special effort to explain the dinner courses when serving them. A wonderful experience we had spending the night at Petrine’s
Absolutely adorable property! Lovely service, clean, comfortable, super-quiet! My favorite stay of all the places we stayed in Norway. Food was delicious.
Great atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff! Only thing we would recommend to make our stay better would be more comfortable pillows that are more firm. It felt like the pillows provided no support.
Super friendly beautiful location. Superb evening meal. The bed The best i slept in in the 18 day stay, so comfortable. The decor and charm of Petrnes was first class. Thee evening meal was prepared from locally sourced produce. If you like good food and a comfortable bed look no further.
Wonderful place to stay in Norway. We stayed one night but I wish that we could have stayed there for a week. Beautiful location, spacious rooms. great breakfast. We decided to stay here rather than stay in Geiranger when visiting the Fjord, and it was the best decision that we could have made. Skip the cruise ship crowds in Geiranger and stay here instead.
Beautiful guest house in a lovely quiet location. The room, service and food more than met expectations. The staff were excellent.
Petrines was located in a stunning location. The staff was very good and friendly. The room was as advertised. There are no restaurants in the village, but a set 3 course meal was available at the hotel. It was overpriced and not that great.
The guesthouse is in a kind of magical setting with a friendly and helpful staff. The rooms and shared spaces are beautifully furnished and unique. Wished we had a longer stay.
We had an amazing time at this fabulous place!
Amazing location, that is perfect for exploring Geiranger, cozy, clean accommodations that is full of character and charm. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. I highly recommend this for your stay in the area.
We stayed two nights in this quiet, bucolic, rural spot. It was absolutely wonderful. Very clean, quiet, and restful. Fantastic dinner of potato and leek soup, lamb shank with mashed potatoes and carrot purée, and apple cake with whipped cream…totally delicious. Great breakfast as well with a generous buffet, all perfectly laid out…very tasty bacon and scrumptious scrambled eggs. Free, easy, safe parking. Very comfy beds with great linens and towels. You just have to love a place with an actual room key on a big wooden fob, a quiet lil library, and a cozy lobby furnished in white wicker and tons of perfectly creased pillows. There’s even a child sized lil wicker chair with a soft sheepskin. A very detail oriented place, very pastoral and soothing. So if you want to do a lot of stuff in nearby Geiringer, make the drive to Norddal and stay in this hideaway.
Wonderful hotel. We had a spacious corner room with views of the fjord and a rushing river, which was delightful to listen to at night. Nice bathtub. Great restaurant but you have to reserve dinner in advance. Very cute town. Great staff.
so nice
Tolle Unterkunft
Great accommodation and very nice staff!
Like a step back in time. Very clean property, attentive staff and the views were spectacular. Check in is on ground floor, dining on 1st floor and rooms on 2nd floor.
The name of the property as guesthouse is not what was expected with guest accessible kitchen or laundry. The staffs are nice and the property is kind of out of way with limited service. The hotel has a restaurant but runs on tight schedule. The trail from the village leads to the trail head of other hikes is muddy. Otherwise the property is nice and quiet.
A beautiful hotel full of little details. Excellent staff and food.
Excellent stay. Food is great. There’s no elevator, so the front desk guy took two heavy bags up to the room. Go on Google maps, then drive the roads up the valley and west up the hill for a surprise waterfall and pastoral farms hanging on the cliff side.
Great stay
Beautiful property in a beautiful location. We stated 1 night on our 2 week trip around Southern Norway and could have stayed much longer. If you want to get away from it all in a quiet village off the main routes this is it. Super friendly staff and excellent 3 course dinner.
Such a cozy place with wonderful staffs in beautiful area
Everything was perfect. Can not fault this guest house. The staff were lovely and the dinner so good. Highly recommend if you want a relaxing break.
We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel! The location is so beautiful and secluded, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of Norway. The staff was great, by far one of the best services we ever had. The room had everything we needed, and a very comfortable bed. The meals were also delicious, made from scratch with fresh local ingredients. Highly, highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed!!!
Wonderful place. Only downside is their menu/restaurant is extremely expensive with no other options for dining out within the vicinity.
Lovely guesthouse. Wonderful location. Excellent food and helpful friendly staff.
Beautiful quiet location in small village by a rushing glacier river and easy walk to the village and fjord. Very pretty room, with waterfall view, plus pleasant breakfast. Dinner was fine. There are lovey grounds around (if it weren't pouring rain) to enjoy, with outdoor seating. There was not staff at the desk, at check in or check out, and I assume they are short handed. Everyone was gracious.
Excellent accueil et très joli !
Everything you expect from a stay by the fjord is fulfilled at Petrines. Beautiful scenery, delightful interiors, tasteful food and welcoming staff. Comfortable beds and very quiet surroundings. This is a perfect stay-over especially if you don’t want to do both Trollstigen and the Eagle Road in one day (which in my opinion is too much). There’s also a small beach, just a few minutes walk across the road, where we had a swim and went paddleboarding. We will return, for sure!
Wonderful hotel in a very peaceful valley. The food is excellent and the service feels like being with friends. The valley is a very natural environment, with beautiful waterfalls, rivers, mountains and endless forrests. Great place for a longer stay.
The guesthouse has two rooms on the ground floor, and the rest of the rooms on the second floor. On the first floor the restaurant/breakfast area is located. All the rooms are designed by a Norwegian textile designer, and it gives them a very cozy feel. We got room number 5, an extra large room with a view to the fjord. It also had a separate small bed for a child/small person, separated from the rest of the room by a small step. Very nice if you travel with a child. There is a a water boiler in the hall, for coffee and tea. A buffet style breakfast with local jams and different spreads was very good. You will be asked to sign up for dinner, and this is a very good idea. We had a great 3 course menu, with two different options for each course. We also enjoyed great local cider and beer with the meal.
Behind the beautiful hotel at the great location there is a plain field with the regular norwegian caravans with their hideous annexes, but that does not matter: the showers and toilets are very clean, the field is perfect and the walk to the water is just a couple of minutes - perfect break !
We stayed here for the food reviews on TripAdvisor. The room and location were very nice as we like out of the way places. The breakfast had a great selection and it was very tasty. We had dinner and were very disappointed. The soup was very nice but the main course was tasteless slop called lamb stew. We figured it must have been the chefs day off as it was terrible. It’s not cheap so we expected more. Poor form.
I booked this place based on a recommendation from a friend, and will pass the recommendation on as we really enjoyed our stay. We really liked the quiet and beautiful location in the tiny village of Norddal, a quick drive from the tourist chaos that is Geiranger. The hotel is traditional and very welcoming for all guests with spacious rooms and comfortable beds nice. The atmosphere is very relaxed with a pleasant staff always willing to assist you, albeit young and inexperienced at times. The set 3 course dinner comes with a strong recommendation, with classic family style food and generous portions. Breakfast was also very good. We enjoyed our brief stay very much and I would give this place a strong recommendation.
The guesthouse and the apartments are very comfortable and clean. They are set right by the river and you can easily spend an hour or two just soaking the ambience in. Definitely a great spot from where you can explore the region around Geiranger. The guesthouse set Retirement goals for those who dream of running their own place
This lovely hotel was booked for me by Norway Adventures so I had little expectation. However when dinner was served it became clear that it takes itself quite serious from a cooking perspective. I loved the food and with a nice bottle of wine to wash down the klipfish I was in post heavy day heaven. A real recommendation if you want a place away from it all but you're not willing to compromise on quality food !
If you are visiting the Geiranger and Trollstigen area, be smart and stay overnight in the middle. As world wide travelers we often decide to stay by locals, more than at the places where all tourists are. This place, Norddal, is such a place. After hours walking, driving, climbing among tourists from all countries, we went "home" again to Petrines Guesthouse to rest, eat and sleep. The employees are among the best "taking-care-of-guests" we have ever seen and experienced during our traveling. And, maybe best of all, take a silent walk in the neighborhood and let the fresh air make your brain relaxing clear again, while taking an overview to the fjords close to. The Hosts,..... are homemade..
Petrines was the only place left with a room and the only restaurant in 20km so we lucked out by finding it! This old retirement home was turned it to a guesthouse with just one person operating the reception and the restaurant. Room was ok - no soundproofing .. Beds were decently comfortable .. We did the tasting menu and everything was very good.
We stayed here for 2 nights. Realy nice breakfast. Homemade jam, bread and several local products. We ate a 3 course meal with Petrines own beer. Very tasty. A must try. The bathrooms were nice. One of the room, nr. 1, was a bit small for 2 adults. Room 11 was great, but did not have curtains that blocked the light. Good beds also in 11, but a bit small in nr.1. One can by local products from a nun monestery, and Melchiorfarm, but one can as easly visit the farm as it is just a good 5 min. walk from Petrines.
Away from the bustle of Geiranger, across the mountain, in this cosy little town of Naddal where the Fjord is name after. Petrines is a very homely place with very cosy sitting room with lots of books and magazines to browse. The dinner of slow roasted goat meat in herbs is one of the best meal we had so far. The desert of raspberry mousse cake is also excellent. Unlike Geiranger, one has to take it slow here, enjoy the serenity of a small town without the bustle of the hordes of tourist.
This we found out is a community run/owned hotel. We came in the low season and the staff service was the best we seen in Norway. Guess being owners of a business makes people proud and off their best. We had a room with a attic bed, and our 5 year old simply loved it. Lots to do with nature and walk around the area. Pity we only use it as a stopover stop
Especially for the dinner. I have to say that we were extremely dissatisfied with the 3 course menu, for which we paid more than 40€ per person (400nok). The first course was an appetizer with some tiny portions of the village's specialities (which we also found on next day's breakfast). Main course was a well cooked fish with vegetables, nothing special, a little tasteless but good, and finally some apple pie which was decent enough. The wrong thing about it all was the amount of food, it was half a portion, literally! Even more painful for me because we were on a long journey and wanted to have a nice dinner to recover strenght and I recomended this place (normally we cooked our own food). We thought it would be worth the price for a special day... but it definitely wasn't and all my family was hungry afterwards. Shame on me.
The old "old folks house" has been given new life as a guesthouse. It is located in the centre of the small "village" which only has one small grocery shop. With 12 rooms in the main building, Petrine can also offer other rooms in other locations in the village. We stayed in the main building. The room was quite small an offers only the bed (no chairs to sit in or desk to sit at). No TV or radio in the rooms or else where. So bring your PC. Bath room is nicely renovated with a bath tub. Ask for room 5 or 9...
