Reviewed May 21, 2025What an amazing find ! this is an outstanding property, we were looking for a nice stop over and this come up and look lovely but when we got there we were blown away with the attention to detail of the decor and the whole stay was an experience not just a room. the room was like something out of a movie set. the facilities were excellent, and the recommendation for an evening meal just up the road, was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. the themed rooms are all so different it really is a stunning place and made our trip so special. the "old English pub" was a great surprise, the whole stay really was way more them expected. photos do not do it justice. great value for money. great breakfast !

Reviewed May 2, 2025I checked in at around 9pm. I was received by friendly staff who assisted me with my luggage and took me to my room. The next morning as I was leaving before 6am I requested a packed breakfast. I was given one that was large enough for breakfast and lunch. The owner went out of his way to ensure that I enjoyed my stay. The decor and gardens are beautiful and immaculately maintained. I will always be staying here in the future when visiting lydenburg.

Reviewed Apr 10, 2025Quirky, historical, unusual, attractive building and furnishings. Welcoming, relaxed, hang-out-with-owners-and-other-guests kind of feel. Accommodating to our dietary needs; made the effort to be creative with the vegan options. Also accommodates our two big vehicles on the property. The rooms became very hot during the night - if we had stayed more than one night, we would have asked for a fan, and I'm sure Francis would have made a plan. We had a memorable short stay. Convenient location, and Lydenburg looks like a town worth exploring further.

Reviewed Feb 6, 2024We stayed at De Ark to break our driving journey from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit after a long overnight flight, we needed somewhere quiet and comfortable to recharge and achieved exactly that. An oasis of calm in a busy town. Loved the beautiful furnishings, such an interesting building and friendly and welcoming hosts. The breakfast was perfect and served in such a lovely dining room. Particularly enjoyed being able to stretch out and relax in the roll top bath after being scrunched up in a plane all night.

The place needs some refurbishment. It's a bit worn down. Breakfast was disappointing compared to 2 years ago.

The roads leading into Lydenburg are atrocious, but then again, most roads north of the Breede River are!

We've been given so many tips and information, it was a shame to leave next day. Room was very spacious with huge bed. We had a peaceful and quiet night. All guest house is decorated beautifully with attention to details and history. The decor of pub room is amazing, real wow effect. I can't express how thankful we are for such a lovely stay. Thank you so much for feeling like at home.
