It was very convenient and close to lots of nice restaurants.

Everything about this hotel was perfect, good size room and bed (not a given in japan), immaculate cleanliness, great breakfast, great location and above all the staff who were courteous and friendly almost to a fault! Location was perfect, Gion a 5 min walk away, literally hundreds of places to eat and drink within walking distance (not least inside the hotel lobby itself). Highly recommend!

Wonderful hotel in a great location.

Hotel molto curato, reception con bar e terrazza all ultimo piano. Posizione centralissima e camere ampie e pulitissime.

Unica pecca che abbiamo riscontrato é la mancanza della laundry a gettoni che é presente in ogni hotel in cui siamo stati in giappone.

The staff were very friendly, helpful, and professional. The room was clean, and the facilities were excellent for a comfortable stay. We also appreciated being able to borrow umbrellas from the hotel when it was raining outside. The breakfast was outstanding, offering a wide variety of dishes. In particular, the traditional Japanese-style breakfast was very attractive and provided a memorable dining experience.

The room design was a little unusual, as the property was converted from a former school building. However, this unique concept was understandable and added character to the hotel, although it took a little time to get used to the layout.

Beautiful property and I loved the uniqueness of this being an old primary school building. Lovely staff and a great lounge / reception area with gorgeous views. Highly recommended.

The entrance to the hotel has some restaurants which is handy but can smell sometimes, which is not pleasant esp. with stale cooking smells.

Big rooms, very comfortable and clean. Close to the center and stations.

The Breakfast was excellent. The views from the eighth floor truly spectacular. The amenities for the guests to use cannot be faulted.

The furniture in the foyer and my room were made with fabric . This made it very obvious that they needed to be cleaned or the fabric replaced. It spoils the opulence of the areas.

Perfect location- staff help us to get taxi. So polite and Friendly. Very close to everything. There are authentic Japanese restaurants everywhere serving amazing dishes. Went way and above service. Like a 10 star hotel

Question- if I would have left my shoes out side By my hotel door- would they be polished the next morning. ???

Ingresso senza reception (che si trova all’8o piano), stanze piccole, palestra sostanzialmente inutile (non ci sono neanche i pesi), nelle foto si presenta meglio di come è realmente.

Absolutely amazing location!!! Rooftop bar was fabulous and everything was clean and comfortable. We saw 2 Maiko hopping into a cab as we drove down the street to the hotel, so a very authentic part of town! Would definitely be open to staying here again. The cafe downstairs is very very good also!

Not that I didn't like it - but there were cheaper (just as nice) options at the time, which would probably have been as good. I chose this because of the location.

La ubicació és genial (al costat de Gion i al cor de Pontocho). La habitació era enorme (tenint en compte l'estàndar japonés). Disposa d'un bar-restaurant a l'àtic amb unes vistes ESPECTACULARS de Kioto, on fan uns cockails boníssims. El personal és molt amable.

El bany no aïlla gens. El buffet de l'esmorzar ens va semblar limitat de varietat en proporció. Disposa de servei de bugaderia, però és MOLT cara.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable with phenomenal views. The bed and provided pyjama’s are comfortable and luxurious. The location towards pretty much everywhere is unbeatable, but the best part is the staff and their incredible hospitality and friendliness.

Not a thing. I wished we could have stayed longer, also because the city is fascinating.

5 étoiles on ne vous porte pas vos valises chambre style hôpital design ( j’adore le design mais chaleureux) on m’a demandé 20 E pour avoir la chambre plus tôt ( 12 h 30 au lieu de 14 h) je ne suis pas restée tellement j’étais déçue .

This is probably the best value hotel I’ve stayed in. The location is on point, in the centre of town but very quiet. The room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable.They had free drinks tea coffee and adult drinks from 11am till 10pm in a lounge on the 3rd floor which was included in the standard price. The staff were professional and helpful. The view from the 8th floor during breakfast was delightful. Highly recommend staying here the cost to value ratio is too good to deny.

Excellent location, set behind one of the busiest shopping streets and very central so everything is walkable, yet with being on the river the setting is very peaceful. Common areas are lovely to lounge in. Loved the library. Staff are not the warmest, which is unusual for Japan. Rooms are tiny, nowhere to open a suitcase, we just had ours open in the middle of everything and had to keep stepping over it. Our room had lots of natural light. Everything was very clean, decor simple and basic. I would stay again, but only if I got a good deal on the room rate as I feel the average prices for a room here are way too expensive ordinarily.

Het is een 4-5 sterren hotel. Ik miste daarom wat entertainment voor de gasten (bijv een show). Er was wel een optreden van trommelartiesten, maar hier moest je een fors bedrag voor betalen.

El hotel es precioso, muy bien ubicado, habitaciones más que correctas, y el estado y limpieza de las instalaciones es excepcional. Es un edificio singular, digno de ser visitado, con mucho encanto. Personal muy amable.

El desayuno es de calidad, y ofrecen la opción de desayuno tradicional japonés. No obstante, el desayuno tipo occidental podría ser más variado. Con el calor que hace en verano se agradecería una piscina.

An exceptionally beautiful hotel with a perfect location in Kyoto. The breakfast was outstanding and is highly recommended. The rooms were clean, well maintained, and in excellent condition.

We had a great stay at this hotel. It is in an excellent location, making it easy to explore the city. Public transportation is nearby, and there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and major attractions within walking distance. The hotel was very clean and featured a modern, minimalist design. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection of delicious food, and the dining room offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city, making every morning special. The beds were extremely comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. We also appreciated having access to the gym, which was well maintained and a nice bonus during our stay. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city. Family from Poland

First floor check in before time was not friendly. After we paid additional price we managed to get the room earlier in the 25 floor reception

My partner and I stayed here for 6 nights in July and overall had a really good experience. The location is fantastic for exploring the city — everything felt within easy reach, and the closest underground station is just a 3-4 minute walk away, which made getting around effortless. The hotel itself is immaculately clean. Our room was spotless throughout the stay, and it was clear a lot of care goes into housekeeping. My one criticism is the breakfast, which felt below the standard you’d expect from a hotel of this quality. Over 6 nights, the menu only offered three options: eggs Benedict, French toast, or a Japanese traditional breakfast. There was a side selection of yogurt, fruit, pastries, and a few small hot items, but the overall offering didn’t quite meet our expectations for the price point. What we found particularly odd was that they don’t advertise having additional egg options. We only found out an omelette was available when we spotted another guest eating one — it was never mentioned on the menu or by staff, which seems like a strange oversight. Overall, this is a very good hotel and we’d happily stay again — just probably without breakfast included next time.

Heerlijk hotel op een top locatie. Wij verbleven in het ‘school house’ en de kamers waren geweldig.

Parkeer faciliteiten voor auto ontbreken. De dichtstbijzijnde garage waar grote/hoge auto’s in passen is 10-15 minuten lopen. Als je maar voor een nacht gaat is dat wat ver. Wij verbleven 3 nachten en hadden de wandeling er graag voor over.

The hotel is one of the best I've ever stayed in. It is comfortable, clean, and friendly. Staff were great. The lounge was comfortable and provided soft drinks, water, and wine. The location was perfect.

Everything! The staff was so helpful and nice.

Prefect hotel, in a prefect place. The staff were warm and welcoming. The superior king room size was wonderful and our 5 month old baby loved the space. He was able to crawl around and they provided a few baby add ons for bathing. The lounge and sofa area was great, as I would go to sleep early with the baby, it baby my husband could relax in a separate area, still within the open plan room. The hotel itself was nice aesthetically in the reception and breakfast area. The hotel provided free entertainment some days which was lovely. We experienced a nice cultural theatre performance. The breakfast was the most standout during our holiday in Japan. Aside from having fluffy pancakes at external eateries, this was our next favourite breakfast option. The hot breakfast was fantastic (French toast, eggs benedict or royale, and à Japanese option). The location was fantastic, only a walk away from Gion and other historical sites as well as public transport options. We were very happy to have spent a bit extra for these added comforts.

That we didn't stay in Kyoto and the Gate Hotel for longer. Next time we will skip staying in Osaka, as it is so close to Kyoto. Aside from that, there's nothing really we didn't like, it was the highlight of our trip.
