We stayed two nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff were professional - polite and attentive, from the moment we arrived till the time we left. We love our room and I believe all rooms have a view of the lake. The room was clean and everything worked well. You can choose to have a private onsen in your room or use the one in the accommodation. A great place to stay while we were at Shiraoi. Meals were kaizeki style which we love as we had small portions and able to try many of the local delights. Dinner had several courses of fried, steamed, hotpot etc and it took us one hour to finish our dinner leisurely. That is why the timing (5.30pm or 7.30pm) may appear rather ‘rigid’ to some but this is quite typical of accommodations that serve kaiseki either in your rooms or in the restaurant. We made the timing work for us so it wasn’t a big deal as we have had similar experiences in other accommodations (luxe, ryokan, onsen hotels etc). Dinner served at the restaurant in small partitioned spaces (some with views of the lake) and on the last day, we had breakfast at the counter. Which was fine with us. It wasn’t castrophobic at all. In fact, it gave a little privacy while we ate. I believe they rotate their guests so that you have different experiences. It was also great that the menu was different for the days we were there. We have been to accommodations where over two nights, the kaizeki menu was the same. So this was a nice surprise for us. We chose KAI as we wanted to be close to Upopoy which was the main reason for our visit. Though next to each other, it’s a short walk to the entrance of Upopoy. Would recommend this place if you are considering this option.

Room onsen tub was small, food is terrible (except for the milk pudding for dessert). There is a rotten moat that bred mosquitos and were landing on our window. No bars, facilities, amenities etc...

Wow, this place gets an A across the board! Luxurious new accommodations with a beautiful birch forest theme and all elements of the structures and furnishings designed as a homage to the indigenous Ainu people. Location is right on Lake Shiraoi with the volcanic cone and bucolic forested shores viewable from every room, and boating, paddle boards, and equipment can be rented a few hundred yards up the road. Only a five minute walk to the sprawling Ainu Cultural Center and museum grounds, where numerous exhibits, performances and audience engagement activities of this freshly opened sight made for a full day. The most distinguished features of this hotel, making it truly world class, are the onsens and the food. There are two onsen areas, one indoor/outdoor with spectacular architecture, open top and open infinity pool fronting the lake. You can stargaze directly at night (closes at 1 am and only accessible to hotel guests). The other onsen is indoors but also architecturally spectacular. Each has full bath and changing facilities and spa amenities as well as complimentary popsicles, tea, waters, etc. Very meditative and utterly quiet in a bucolic setting. In fact, guests are encouraged to roam the resort in plush Japanese robes provided in each room, so a very relaxed while decorous vibe. The breakfast and dinners included in the room price were astonishing in quality. Kaiseki style, each meal has over a dozen courses or dishes, artistically prepared with local ingredients. The restaurant is set in a beautiful wooden artisan crafted dining area with wonderful private rooms and top notch service. Deserving of Michelin star! Staff were uniformly helpful and attentive. There are a number of activities and tours available, so plenty to do even on a rainy day. We look forward to returning to this peaceful top notch destination resort!

The staffs were very kind and professional. The lake view was the best.

晚餐與想像中的不一樣，很fancy 但沒有很美味

職員親切友善，每次看到他們都是笑容滿面地跟我們打招呼。房間乾淨整潔而且十分大，還有私人溫泉。隔音很好，給我一個寧靜舒服的休息時間。一泊二食每天餐單不同，本來以為會吃不飽但結果是十分飽。整體十分滿意，會再回來的！

The staffs are not too enthusiastic, not sure if it’s the language problem. The meals are mediocre concerning the price of the stay .

ĺĺ camera assegnataci era in fondo ad un lungo corridoio, distante dagli ascensori. Essendo due persone anziane, abbiamo fatto richiesta di avere una stanza più facilmente accessibile ma senza risultato. Anche perché la proposta dell'hotel di cambiare stanza è arrivata dopo che si erano già disfatti i bagagli e sistemato le nostre cose inĺ camera. Altra cosa che ci ha spiacevolmente colpito è l'assoluta mancanza di un'alternativa alla colazione giapponese. Ora noi eravamo pienamente consapevoli del tipo di ospitalità alberghiera ma ci saremmo aspettati un po' di flessibilità sulla colazione. In fondo, un caffè, con pane tostato burro e marmellata un succo di frutta non ci pareva una richiesta impossibile da soddisfare.

직원분들 친절하고 협조적입니다! 건축물과 아이누족을 컨셉으로한 인테리어가 아름다워요. 온천이 딸린 객실을 선택했는데 여긴 컨디션 관리가 썩 좋지 않아서 대욕탕만 이용했습니다.

시설 좋음, 하지만 무료 식음료 라운지가 좀 약함. 다과, 술 같은 약간의 서비스 필요. 2000엔짜리 술 마시는 체험 신청했는데 종교적인 의미가 들어가 있어서(불의 신에게 술을 바침) 좀 불쾌했음. 하지만 뷰는 좋았음. 음식도 아주 괜찮았음

寧靜而美麗的婆羅多湖畔，晴朗清新的空氣和微風，可惜的衛生糟糕，免洗馬桶噴水頭都黑色污漬，浴室牆壁發霉，房間內溫泉非常髒，第一天泡完我們皮膚都發癢，餐點品質普通，除限定用餐時段第二天還延遲到八點才能入席，最後我們只想趕快離開到下一個飯店行程

-Very nicely located next to the Ainu museum -Well trained staff, greeting you from the entrance including concierge and bell boy -Rooms very nice, high quality material and amenities, views of the lake - outdoors onsen really nice, not massified at all and with great peaceful views of the lake -food was also very nice, we enjoyed more the breakast specially the ainu stew than the dinner, but dinner was also great

The water at the onsen Sankaku no yu is amazing. We went to three additional onsen after KAI Poroto but the water at KAI was the best. The main pool has a part that is outdoors which looks out on the lake. Beautiful. I also appreciated leaving the hotel and walking around the village of Shiraoi. There are interesting bakeries and restaurants not too far from the resort, even though the general Shiraoi area appears to be quite remote. The kaiseki meals were good but what I appreciated more was the service by the staff, which appeared to be more familiar with foreign guests. At other resorts run by other companies, the staff appeared clearly hesitant to approach us, let alone take the time to explain the food. They would just point at the paper Engish menus and tell us to read it. This was not the case at KAI Poroto, where the staff took the time to explain each course, at least the best they could. The rooms were quite comfortable and well furnished. It was a bit ironic that the Sankaku building is so architecturally interesting, but not the main building of the hotel, which is basically a rectangle.

시설은 고급스럽고 조용했으며, 온천 물도 훌륭했습니다. 주변 환경, 사람들의 전통과 어우러지는 것도 인상적이었습니다. 저녁식사와 조식 모두 최고급 레스토랑 같다는 인상을 주었습니다. 무엇보다 그러한 느낌을 받을 수 있게 최선을 다해 주시는 스탭들이 대단하다고 생각합니다. 카이 계열의 다른 곳들도 방문해 보고 싶습니다.

Priced & advertised as a luxury resort, this was nice but not worth the very high price tag. Claustrophobic dinner settings, badly cooked food, no flexibility of dining times, poor housekeeping standard & zero luxe touches expect the nice onsen

숙박도 좋고 야외 온천도 좋았는데요 음식이 그리 맛나지는 않았네요 주변에 너무 아무것도 없어서 한가롭게 지내긴했어요 그것빼고는 다 만족스러운 여행이였네요

Top class modern ryokan with stunning design based on Ainu indigenous culture, fantastic, caring heartfelt service, and outstanding food also with Ainu influences. So glad to have been able to visit, will definitely return in the future to stay for a bit longer. Expansive Ainu museum next door as well.

장점: 뛰어난 휴식 프로그램, 온천, 식사 및 숙소 컨디션 단점: 작은 아이를 위한 배려. 특히 식사는 성인과 동일한 구성이었는데, 외국인 아이들이 먹을만한 옵션이 2-3개 정도 있었다면 더욱 만족했었을 것.

It is my first time to visit Shiraoi. We stayed a night in a room with private onsen. Kai was opened in Jan 2022 and the furnitures were new. Our room was clean and spacious. I really like the room design and high room height which are relaxing and comfortable. The skincare products were completed in bathroom. We were surprised that the colour of the Onsen is light brown. Staff are friendly and helpful. They helped us to take photos when we found a deer inside the hotel. Also, they helped us to dispose the waste after we removed the packaging of our a new luggage. Lastly, I would Highly recommended a restaurant 白老牛の店いわさき おもてなし亭 which is 5-min driving distance from Kai for beef lovers. Remarks: There was no neither USB outlet nor Type C outlet.

Beautiful location, very comfortable room with an onsen in your bathroom. The private open air onsen is wonderful, one of the most peaceful moments of our trip. The hotel is architecturally gorgeous and the way it blends with nature is stunning. Food is ok, there’s only one restaurant and you have to book breakfast and dinner - otherwise you have to walk to get something to eat as there’s nothing the kitchen can prepare which I find a bit disappointing after several hours traveling and feeling super tired. Dinner was great although for tourists not used to the style there could have been an explanation of the set menu which I found out later there were many dishes I was allergic to and couldn’t change. Overall is a nice hotel for a one night stay but given above preparation is needed.

We came here to visit the Upopoy museum and this hotel is right next to the museum. Check-in at 3pm was a bit of a zoo but it was nice to enjoy the lakeview while waiting. There are a lot of staff and they are friendly and attentive. The room is comfortable tho it's possible some guests may feel a lack of privacy since the large windows face the access way to the onsen. There are two onsen areas. The one inside the hotel is small, indoor. The other onsen complex in the funky building is a short walk outside. The dressing area is a little cramped and the whole building including the baths have funny roof angles. Ladies outdoor bath does not have views of the lake. Meals are taken in a dining hall separated into private booths. The food incorporates Hokkaido seasonal specialties. You can see Mt Tarumae smoking in the distance.
