Montebelo Mosteiro de Alcobaça Historic Hotel

We stayed one night on our drive from Lisbon up to Porto. We wanted to break up the long drive and we are so glad we did. We loved Alcobaca! The hotel is right next to the monastery. Just walk out the door and there it is. We also loved the indoor pool and sauna. The room was large and the bed extra large. The AC worked very well and breakfast was very nice with many options.

O hotel é excelente, as instalações estão todas reformadas como novas. O café da manhã é farto e com diversos produtos locais. A infraestrutura do hotel é excelente, camas e chuveiros confortáveis. O atendimento por parte dos funcionários foi impecável e rápido. A sensação de privacidade no hotel é algo ímpar e praticamente não se vê hóspedes pelo corredor dado o também do hotel.

A falta de ferro de passar roupa nos quartos e a indisponibilidade dos mesmos foram o único ponto baixo. Existe serviço de engomaria porém o valor cobrado é um bastante salgado.

As instalações do hotel são maravilhosas. Quarto amplo, muito limpo e confortável. Piscina interna excelente e com a água na temperatura adequada. O café da manhã é bom e variado. Equipe muito gentil e atenciosa.

A very unique property in a beautiful and historic setting. The building has been refurbished but the sense of purpose that it was originally built for still remains. The lightness and airiness of the hallways seems to instill a quietness despite the soaring ceilings. The room was very comfortable with a big bathroom. All the staff were very attentive and helpful.

I felt the breakfast was lacking. While it looked impressive, the hot food was barely warm and the breads and a pastry I had were rather stale. I would have expected better food from a 5 star hotel.

Friendly staff with great restaurant suggestions.

Some groundwork is being done next to the hotel during our stay. It was not pretty to look at from the breakfast room windows. Bulldozers and backhoes with piles of dirt. However, when it is finished, I trust it will be as beautiful as the rest of the hotel. The hotel's courtyard is a square patch of dirt lined with trees. No one was ever out there. What a missed opportunity to create a beautiful setting with grass or a stone patio, maybe a water feature, and a place for evening gatherings, drinks, dining outside, or listening to musicians.

Me gustó la ubicación y los servicios que tiene el hotel. Además, de ser un edificio histórico me gustó su ambientación y sus carteles recordatorios del lugar que fue.

El parking de clientes estaba ocupado por otros clientes que no pertenecían al hotel. En época de Fiestas de Alcabaça deberían tener las plazas reservadas solo para clientes.

It feels inhospitable. It’s closer to a 4 star. I did not feel it was a luxury 5 star hotel

Très bel hotel inséré dans un superbe monument le monastère d’Alcobaça … la décoration est sobre et de très bon goût . Les chambres sont très confortables… si on préfère le calme et le silence demander les chambres dont les fenêtres donnent sur le cloître / cour intérieure . Excellent petit déjeuner , le restaurant aussi très bon mais un peu trop cher à mon avis , on trouvera des restaurants très bien en ville , à 2 pas de l’hôtel… ( António Padeiro 👍) c’est mon 2eme séjour dans cet hôtel et il y aura sûrement un 3 ème … j’oubliais la piscine ! Une merveille

A wonderful experience to spend some time in this exquisitely restored monastery. It is a very special place. Be sure to explore all areas of the monastery hotel to see what the architect and design team have achieved. There is an interesting book available at reception too.

The hotel was an old monastery. The way it was transformed into a hotel is amazing. Clean, simple, full of light and beautiful. Congratulations. The decoration is simple and clean, light pine wood. Loved it.

At breakfast I would prefer coffee served at the table instead of a machine. But I understand it. In the suite the light between the rooms that turns on automatically is too strong.

Great position, atmospheric historical building, comfortable bed and pillows. Spectacular and unique indoor pool and spa facilities.

The decor was stark, possibly in the monastic tradition, but I felt it was a bit overdone with little soft furnishing or wall decor. The bar area had no ambiance at all.

It was the nicest hotel we ever stayed in. Everything was beautiful-the building is exquisite. Then there were all lovely extra bits eg breakfast was fabulous, rooms clean and the bed so comfortable, fluffy bath towels, water in a jar and cookies at reception for one to help themselves. A real treat💕

The staff was very welcoming, and the building is very impressive. It was nice to see all the features of the monastery kept. Breakfast was excellent. We had dinner there and the starters and desserts were amazing. The swimming-pool beautiful. It is also very well situated right in the centre.

A shame that the walls and doors were very cheaply made or looked it anyway. A bit more class there would have been the cherry on the cake. For such a wonderful building, the rugs had stained and looked also very cheap. Just a bit of a let down on that side.

An exceptional restoration with equally exceptional interior design. Very impressive structure and history. We will return.

The hotel is situated in a very old monastery. It has been renovated tastefully and minimally to retain its character. We were both celebrating our birthdays and from our arrival and check in until checkout the staff made us feel very welcome. Thank you Mariza. All the staff were extremely friendly. I would highly recommend dining in. The bar was extremely well stocked and pleasant to relax in. I made use of the spa facilities and had a perfect massage before we left. Truly a fantastic hotel.

The hotel is located in one of the monastery cloisters and staying there was a great experience. The rooms are large and luxurious. There is surface parking outside the hotel entrance.

This monastery turned into a hotel was fabulous. Beautiful. Rooms are completely modern. The restaurant was spacious and the food was very good. The breakfast was outstanging. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The location in the town of Alcobaca was great. It was quiet and peaceful but you could walk about the town. Not as hilly as some towns. Can walk to many restaurants. And the church that is part of the complex can be visited. There is a free section and a more extensive tour for a small cost.

The ambience is too empty (some paintings on the walls of the corridors for example would make the space more comfortable). We had to walk quite a bit from the lift to our room, maybe there are not enough lifts or they are not properly indicated.

We have booked this amazing hotel for our Gala dinner for Global Fairpay. We stayed for 5 nights and we had our VIP guests from all over the world . Every guest has given us excellent feedback about their stay. We had Royal families including Duke and Duchess of Braganza and Royal family of Habsberg for the event . Also Mayor of Alcobaca as well Vice Mayors attended the event . I would highlight Ms Joanna Lisboa Vitorino and she been our contact to organise event from day one. She has been amazing with great attention to detail , courteous , flexible and can do attitude . We had enormous requests , change in plans , amendments but she has never said No . She was with us from arrival till event finished successfully. Always with a smile and efficiency. Everything mentioned for the event was spot on . Ms Hèlia Carvalho Director of the hotel is a great host . She met us on our day one . She spent significant amount of her time with me to understand our expectations and what our plans will be . She was the last person left our event to make sure everything has been done upto standards . She is calm , great listener and handson . It has been noticed that she helps guests at reception as well you will find her in different parts of hotel to make sure standards are exceeding guests expectations.She is a "Great Hotelier " . Anna from Front office has communicated v effectively and I met her in person and I found very friendly, polite and professional. On our last day she has a colleague and sadly I missed her name and she has been terrific . V attentive at reception morning time . Front desk manager Ms Marisa Couto is managing her dept v well and can shows with their efficiency, smile in every interaction and willingness to help and going extra mile . Whether we needed large envelopes or water bottles she make it happen. Absolutely 5 star and best person in hospitality business . Executive Chef Mr Bruno Mendes and entire culinary team did a fantastic job . Food was amazing, delicious and Excellent presentation . Head waiter Mr Dinis Carvalho has done a fabulous job. Table setup , Beverage and food service were prompt and immaculate. Every team member in his team was willing to service with manners and I would like to highlight Mr Dinis Carvalho as I am sure he was the one who got me an " Ice cream " after event was finished . I didnot had my dessert and all were finished and kitchen was closed . Mr Carvalho arranged for me ice cream . I very much appreciate as he had the option to say No but he tried his best to satisfy my need and definitely exceeded my expectations . All BELL desk staff , porters been amazing . Our porter on our last day was Mr Dèrcio Sindique who has handled all luggage by himself and a v polite and professional gentleman. This hotel has great postive vibes , excellent cleanliness , housekeeping has done a great job . All rooms were cleaned timely and with high standard . Mr Pedro every day at breakfast has looked after all of us v v well . Always with a smile . Its the only breakfast restaurant I ever come across that one person can handle everything. Absolutely a super star . V positive attitude and every request he accepts with a smile . We all loved Mr Pedro . I dined twice at hotel main restaurant and food and service been excellent. 1 - Apesar do conforto, o aspecto austero conservado dos tempos de mosteiro causa alguma impressão. 2 - Mas do que realmente não gostei foi da falta de tratamento para reduzir a fenomenal acústica do espaço onde funciona o restaurante. À hora do jantar, quando lá estive, mesmo grupos pequenos dão a impressão de um estádio lotado em dia de FCP X Benfica. Acredito que a administração poderia fazer alguma coisa para minimizar esse efeito que é fruto, certamente, da arquitectura original com tectos abobadados que fazem o som reverberar imenso. À parte a boa comida da cozinha, o barulho, dada essa particularidade da sala, é mesmo desagradável.

Great location. Easy parking. Wonderful historic hotel with plenty of character. Large room and very roomy and spacious surroundings within the hotel all kept to the highest standards. We would definitely recommend/visit again if in the area.

Could have done with more coathangers in the wardrobe. There was a conference on at the time and breakfast was a bit busy and noisy. Really can't think of anything else we didn't like.

We booked a pet room and paid more than a normal room to have this . However as we paid on leaving they asked for another 30 euros for our second tiny dog , which is fine but didn’t understand why the didn’t tell us at check-in it was more because of another dog ? Felt very cross about this as I had had a lot of chat with hotel beforehand also . Reception staff were very serious and not very friendly at all . The only place we had friendly service was the bar by our waiter , he was delightful . Did feel that with pre dinner drinks is we should have been offered some sort of nuts or olives . So to summarise not sure I feel like we would go back because of the high cost of the dogs .

Natürlich die tolle Präsenz der klösterlichen Architektur. Den Indoor Pool kann man sicher als einmalig bezeichnen. Die Rezeption war sehr hilfreich und freundlich.

Nicht ganz so toll war die Sauberkeit im Bad. Hier ist Luft nach oben. Im Restaurant wäre ein souveräner Kellner besser aufgehoben als ein junges, durchaus bemühtes Mädchen. Der absolute Schwachpunkt beim Frühstück war der Kaffee aus den Automaten. Ich kann mich nicht erinnern jemals so eine "Flüssigkeit" als Kaffee bekommen zu haben. Dieselben Automaten produzieren in anderen Hotels trinkbarere Ergebnisse.

El agua de la piscina está un poco fría para considerarse spa. Tener que salir a la sala más grande para el baño turco no es muy cómodo, porque está con los vestuarios y la climatización es complicada...

The building is stunning and location good. Self guided tours of the building would be a good addition to the stay.

The breakfast was average. The hard boiled eggs were cold would have loved a hot one. The coffee was poor.

Malheureusement beaucoup de bruit dans la soirée de samedi par un groupe venu en séminaire. Nous avons fait des demandes au personnel qui a fait ce qu'il a pu ... mais cela a été long à se calmer .Des réunions bruyantes ne devraient pas être autorisées dans un tel lieu.

Zimmer. Badezimmer schön gemacht, aber ohne Fenster. War wie ein Würfel der ins Zimmer gestellt wurde. Das Zimmer war zum Parkplatz ausgerichtet und bei geöffneten Fenster laut. Ausserdem waren periodische Geräusche im Zimmer, zu hören, eventuell von einer Hebeanlage. Wir wollten tauschen bzw. Upgraden, aber die Dame am Empfang erzählte uns es wäre nicht möglich, da wir über Booking.com gebucht hätten.

It was fun to stay in such a historic building and witness the restoration their breakfast was great.

I know it was meant to be stark because of the monastery theme. I think they had subs in the bar that had no idea how to make drinks.

Nao consegui utilizar o spa pois estava cheio de gente, inclusive crianças a fazerem muito barulho. O hotel deveria colocar um horário de spa para as crianças. O restaurante a comida era boa mas o serviço nao vale o preço. Grande confusão com os nossos pedidos. Melhor comer fora.
