Cena e colazione buone.

When we got there we got some tea and chilled in the common space meeting the other guest and after the sun dropped a bit we went for a walk in the desert to one of the highest dunes in the region. We then sand boarded and got served an amazing meal that could be vegetarian as well and all looked exquisite. They speak both English and French and can give you info on anything you may need. Would absolutely recommend if you want a more secluded and private experience in a smaller camp. Recommend star gazing towards 4:30am you can see the milky way perfectly.

Reviewed Apr 7, 2026My stay at Erg Chegaga Berber Camps was a once-in-a-lifetime experience (though, another guest there was already visiting for the third time, which says a lot.)
Everything felt authentic. It didn’t feel performative or touristy like some of the more luxurious desert camps (especially compared to places around Erg Chebbi).
Muhammed, who started the camp about 20 years ago as one of the first in Erg Chegaga, and Ali are genuinely part of the nomadic desert lifestyle. You can feel that in every detail and their vibe. They were incredibly relaxed and welcoming, and both nights they played music for us, which added something really special to the experience (see the video I uploaded).
The location is truly remote, the nearest town is about 2–3 hours away, and you can only reach the camp by 4x4. Transfers can be arranged directly with the camp (around €90 return per reservation), larger groups may need an extra vehicle.
There’s a real sense of slowing down here. The camp itself is simple, but that’s exactly where its luxury lies. Breakfast is included and modest but tasty, and dinner (around 120 dirham) is absolutely worth it.
Evenings are incredibly peaceful, just silence, the desert, and a sky full of stars.
If you’re looking for something genuine, quiet, and deeply connected to the desert, this place is something special.

Reviewed Dec 8, 2025Ali picked us up in M'hamid. We felt very comfortable in Ali's car during the approximately 2-hour drive (60 km) to the Chegaga Berber Camps. The driving service costs 900 MAD (€90) for 2 people. Ali speaks English quite well.
Once you arrive at the Chegaga Berber Camp, you first move into your tent and are then served typical Moroccan tea and pastries.
After that, you have free time until dinner.
After the beautiful sunset, we returned to the Chegaga Berber Camp. It is highly recommended not to walk too far from the camp, otherwise you run the risk of getting lost among the sand dunes. You should definitely record your route with a GPS tracker so that you can find your way back. If you are planning a long tour into the desert, it is advisable to do so with Ali or his brother Mohamed.
Dinner started with a kind of vegetable soup, followed by a very good tagine with vegetables and beef. Then there was fruit salad for dessert. Dinner costs 130 MAD (€13) per person. You can also buy water from Ali or his brother Mohamed at any time.
Afterwards, a campfire was prepared and we spent the evening together.
At this point, we would like to mention that you can hear many animals at night and occasionally some animals scratch at the tent wall.
In the morning, there was a fine breakfast with really good scrambled eggs, bread, jam, etc.
After that, you have the day at your leisure and you can do sand surfing for free, for example. Basically, there is the option of riding a camel or going on a hike. We took a walk in the desert and were served Moroccan tea and pastries in the afternoon.
Basically, there is the option of showering in the communal bathroom. There are toilets, but you have to scoop the flush water yourself from a water bucket using a kind of ladle.
After breakfast, it was time to say goodbye.

We were picked up in the village of Hamid for 90 euros round-trip, and all communication was smoothly handled via WhatsApp. There were plenty of activities to enjoy at the camp, like playing pétanque or surfing on the sand dunes. Ali was amazing—he arranged a camel ride for us and made sure everything was perfect.
In the evenings, we had a fantastic time singing around the campfire with Mohamed, Ali, Mustapha, and other guests. It was one of the best experiences we’ve had all year.
I highly recommend staying for at least two nights and taking a three-hour walk to the high dune to soak in the local atmosphere. It was truly a unique opportunity. Thanks to the entire team for this exceptional experience!
As for a minor downside, the water pressure in the showers was a bit low. But honestly, if you’re used to camping and outdoor trips, this isn’t really a big issue.

They can also arrange a camel trek with healthy, well looked after camels, if you'd like. The beds are comfortable in the tents, or you can sleep outside if its too hot. There are 2x showers and toilets, but water is limited in water cubes so try to be reserved with usage. There was one multiplug available for charging but bring a power pack just in case. The food was all brilliant; breakfast was plentiful and the tagines were some of the best we had in Morocco.
No complaints, more just suggestions:
Proper hand soap, not watered down stuff.
Maybe a hook in the tents so that snack bags could be hung to deter the little desert mouse from exploring.

The drive from M’Hamid costs 90 euros per two persons. The return trip is included. We wanted to go west, so Mohammed was so kind to drive us to the other side. It cost 100 euros extra, which was very much worth it. That was a 4 hour off road journey I will never forget. Reviewed Feb 14, 2025We had an incredible experience in this fantastic location. The rooms are basic, but that’s exactly what we loved, we didn’t miss a thing. The facilities were clean, and there was even a hot shower. Don’t come here expecting luxury, come for the authentic experience: dark, quiet nights under a sky full of stars and great conversations around the campfire.
The drive to the camp was an adventure in itself, made even better by Mustafa and his fantastic local music. We’d also like to thank Mohammed, Ali, and the rest of the team for their warm hospitality and for making us feel at home.
If you’re looking for a pure, authentic desert experience, this is the place to be

Reviewed Jan 28, 2025very good breakfast, comfortable beds, just go there and taste the desert, unforgettable experience! kind and generous people, thank you so much for taking care of us
just one small thing, it would be nice to get an offer on what we can do, like what the options are (like camel rides or quad rides if available)

Reviewed Dec 31, 2024Everything. A shower isn't something necessary in the winter time.. so if you do, it is a little cold in the evening. Food is simple and nice. Ali the host was accommodating and nice. His team is nice .. everything great. Location is awesome.. all view from all rooms are the same. Their shared toilet is also the same as private toilet .. it doesn't matter.
The driving journey was also great. Mohammed is the designated car owner/driver ... Has great desert Berber music and drives safely and a lot to share about the desert..

Reviewed Nov 7, 2024We thoroughly enjoyed our quick trip into the desert.
We organised a pick-up by 4WD and Mohammed picked us up on Mhamid at the end of the last roundabout in a white Toyota.
It was an unbelievably fun 1,5hr drive through the desert.
The camp is situated just between the first smaller dunes, tucked away so that you don't see other camps (at night you hear the drums and music a tiny bit if the wind is a particular way), but otherwise it feels secluded.
The hut/tent is spacious and the bed quite comfortable.
The bathroom was better than imagined for the desert.
Also food was really good, a very good soup and chicken tajine for dinner and a crispy egg made in a tajine for breakfast.
Walking the dunes was a lot of fun, especially for sunset and bright and early in the morning.
Mohammed took us back to Mhamid early the next day, and even tried to drive us by some antilopes.
We also had really nice conversations with him, fascinating to learn about Berber and nomad life.
I would have liked to have stayed some more hours in the morning (it was a bit hectic as we didn't know that we had to leave at 10), Check-out time might have stood in booking.com but I'm not sure.
If you have time, do two nights and spend the day lounging about in the calm of the desert and doing some dune trecks or camel rides
