Cosy, loved by owners, real Maine!
I stay often but room 13 had a very soft bed. Not great for me- but maybe for others.
Location was excellent, easy to find. Cottage was super cute. Rustic/campy feel. Loved the kitchen. Bed very comfortable.
Breakfast was limited (not a problem since we weren’t expecting anything!)
This is a very authentic place to stay. the knotty pine decor is what Maine is all about. The staff helped us pick the right cabin for our needs. Glad we decided to stop for a few nights after driving by the location. For many years!
there were no negatives to report
Baked goods and good coffee for breakfast
Highway noise
love these little cottages. such a throwback and campy experience.
nothing
Loved the blueberry muffins. Staff was very helpful and accommodating.
Cozy cottage for a very reasonable price. I super appreciated the firewood being supplied so I could relax and enjoy the fireplace every evening. Perfect place for quiet relaxation and remarkably good WiFi for working remote
The breakfast was super cute & definitely homemade. The cabins were super cute and private, surrounded by the woods. Super close to downtown Freeport as well! Loved the family run business vibes.
The cabin smelled of smoke. The chimney needs an updated ventilation system.
friendly staff, clean and good value
small bedrooms, and needs tlc
Peaceful setting, spacious cabin, kitchen had everything we needed. The woodwork is very nice. There is a fireplace but we did not use. There is a playground that looks brand new.
Could have used fluffier pillows.
Friendly staff, breakfast was light and homemade
The idea is sound. The cabins are cute and there is a new playground area for kids. The manager was friendly when we checked in. And the bed looked clean and comfortable.
It was not clean. As we walked in, there was a small pile of dirt that needed to be swept out of cabin, and the toilet could have looked cleaner if there had been a toilet brush used. The toilet also lacked adequate pressure, and since there was a plunger next to it (but no toilet brush) we assumed that there might be a constant problem with that. There should have been a clean sponge in kitchenette and the refrigerator did not look like it had been wiped down.
It was surprisingly quiet for being so close to the highway and Rt 1
The cottage itself was dated and could use a refresh especially the bathroom.
Everything. So cute, clean, friendly staff, homemade breakfast. It was so peaceful. The best day we've had anywhere in a very long time. Everybody was so friendly. The cabins were absolutely adorable. It was like home away from home.
Absolutely nothing we didn't like. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Loved the reception and helpfulness from the owners upon arrival and the character and coziness of the cabin. The surroundings were lovely and easy to get to restaurants.
Although there were lots of ant traps all over the counter, the kitchen was still crawling with ants. We didn't like to put anything on the counters, and were reluctant to make drinks in the coffee maker. The cabin we booked was with a queen bed and it was a double, which sank in the middle. Sadly, we wouldn't return.
Full of character! Very friendly welcome. Fab kids play frame.
Floor was a little grubby!
We likcsed the setting and the playground.
Breakfast - they shoudn't have offered
This was a great value for the location and the atmosphere reminded me of my summer camp deep in the woods. The breakfast pastries were delicious and the staff was very welcoming.
Great for visiting shopping LLBean. Nice restaurants . Lovely town clean and tidy.
The cabins are lovely and love having a porch.
Nothing!
This was a walk back into history. If you want modern or glitzy, it's not for you. The cabins were built many decades ago and upgraded according to contemporary standards. They are tiny and outfitted simply, even old fashioned. But they have all the necessities organized well. Extra credit for enough electrical outlets to charge lots of devices. The office staff were very helpful. The propery has been handed down through at least 3 (maybe more) generations and one of today's proprieters is an artist whose work and words are evident. And it was very clean-- not easy in old, used spaces.
Front porch
Uncomfortable furniture, horrible water pressure in shower.
Clean. Bed was comfortable. Easy to get to.
Brushing my teeth in the kitchen sink. Shabby towels. Bad lighting. Skip the "breakfast".
This was a fantastic deal for a family with all the amenities to make you comfortable such as the kitchen.
Activities on the property but Portland and Freeport were close enough to take a drive and explore. We did a pretty sunset Cruise one evening and the air show was the main event of the trip
I love the cabin it was spacious and clean and comfortable. And cute.
The property was lovely. I had my own little cottage and it had everything I needed for a three-day stay. Joe the proprietor was wonderful. The bed was super comfortable.
It was just a bit more rustic than I was expecting, but it was great.
Beds were comfortable Breakfast was great Mango the bird 🐦.
Nothing
The cottage was comfortable, and a good size. It fit our family well, and had a nice size kitchen and bathroom. It was a handicap accessible room, which helped.
Could have been a little cleaner, they were dust bunnies on the floor. But it is a rustic cabin, so I do expect it to be "rustic".
Only stayed 1 night but the small cabin had a very well equipped kitchen including coffee maker and coffee. Even outdoor gas grill & picnic table.
We enjoyed the historic significance of the Idyll Inn and it suited our needs for the weekend. We did not partake in the breakfast, so I cannot really comment on that, and we did not use the kitchen for cooking, but I was happy that there was a freezer to re-freeze my ice packs. The staff were super friendly. I loved the framed poems that were so thoughtfully placed in our room.
Through no fault on the part of the resort, the 295 traffic noise was really loud. We pretty much solved that by using our fan for white noise.
Convenient location near Freeport and shopping.
Cabins were old and musty.
The cabins were extremely clean and cozy and the breakfast was really freshly made. I left my wedding ring there and the owner's going to ship it back to me. Excellent customer service.
Very friendly staff. Funny bird Bingo at the registration. Generously gave us freshly baked PopOvers for the next morning because we had a very early departure.
Very cute cottages, nice feel to it.
Cozy cottages equipped with a kitchenette and bathroom. It had everything we needed and was very clean.
We had a 2 bedroom unit with a fireplace and a kitchenette. It was very clean, shower was hot and beds were comfortable. It was a cold Maine evening so a fire in the fireplace was welcome! Enjoyed our stay. Good continental breakfast included.
It was all pretty great!
The cabin had a real fire place. We had a good stay. Nice check-in. Good home-made breakfast (sweet only, not savory though).
Since the cabins are close to the highway it is rather noisy outside.
I liked that it had 3 bedrooms.
It was supposed to be ADA and it wasn't. Robin at the front desk was rude, not hospitable to any of the guests that came in. The breakfast was limited in space. Food and even coffee. I scratched my van trying to get my wheelchair bound brother into the cabin. We had to put kitchen chairs 3 feet apart for him to make his way to the bathroom. This was a nightmare. We did not stay the 2nd day.
Big cabin, very quaint. Comfortable beds
Just noise from the highway, nothing they can do aboutthat
Very charming and full of character. Cozy and homey cabin with everything I needed. You can tell there's a lot of care in what they do there
It's close to the highway, so you hear cars, but it's more like ambient white noise.
Conveniently located, pet friendly, clean, friendly, helpful staff.
Breakfast was supposed to start 7:30 - we left at 8, still wasn’t open but really not a big deal. McD was right down the street.
Very welcoming
Location was extremely convenient and perfect place to stay w our dog. We came to hike Wolf State Park which was 5 minutes away. Very convenient to downtown freeport also. Cottages have some places to walk w your dog also. Baked breakfast goods were an unexpected treat. Really appreciated the front porch to sit. Heat or air conditioning was greatly appreciated.
Not really able to cook, microwave wouldn't work, hot plate too dangerous to cook on. Did boil water though. Cottage a bit cramped, so would rent a larger one next time. But all in all, we enjoyed our stay w our pup very much.
Very nice location w lots of trees and parking.
One of our group is 6'5", the bed was a little small for him.
Lovely continental breakfast with good coffee
Nothing
We had a group four families so had four different cottages. Two of the cottages were obviously older than the other two and were clearly in need of updating, however the price was the same as the cottages that were newer and definitely in better condition. Ours had a fireplace in it and the smell of smoke saturated the whole cottage. It was disgusting. Don’t stay there!!
It was quaint and lovely. Breakfast every morning was delicious.
We don't have any complaints!
Home cooked muffins etc- Good coffee- Good travel breakfast Lovely old style family run motel in rural Maine. Expect pine walls and floors. Woodsy. The opposite of corporate.
This place is such a gem. The perfect cottage that has great amenities for a great price. The bed was super comfortable. Nice kitchen, seating area, and a fireplace with wood provided! They even had some nice baked goods and coffee in the morning. The staff is also very friendly.
I like the individual cabinet style unit. Cabins were designed with a vintage feel. Cozy.
Windows need new blinds or drapes. Cabin looked like a work in progress. Old non-functioning broken heater unit still sits unplugged should be removed and patched. Outside and inside needs sprucing up.
Cute, clean, nice staff
Liked the individual cabins …cozy
Breakfast wasn’t of significance…we brought our own. A bit of road noise with location
Baked good were home made and very good
Lovely hidden gem!!! Checked in with Todd, he was very friendly and helpful.
Nothing left at the continental breakfast table at 8:30am, with another hour+ left for stated breakfast availability.
Maine Idyll offers an opportunity to experience the classic Maine motor court. It is a collection of old-fashioned cabins that have been refurbished with older unique furnishings and art. It was clean and comfortable, reasonably priced, AND allows pets for a reasonable price. It even offers a tiny but tasty breakfast buffet. It is directly outside of Freeport for L.L.Bean fans.
It suffers from the noise from 295, which I believe was built after the Maine Idyll cabins. The road noise is loud, outside, but minimal inside, at least in Cabin 8, where we stayed.
The location was really convenient on our way up north. The manager was friendly and helped with extension cords. Also, they offered a nice continental breakfast.
No outlets in one bedroom…and only one in the other. Musty odor. There was a fan and lamp in the room I stayed in, but no outlets. Needs updated amenities.
It was a wonderful time. My family enjoyed staying in the cabin. It reminded us of vacations we had as children with our aunt and uncle. Would definitely go back again.
Cozy individual cabins with all the amenities you need: bathroom, mini kitchen, bed, table & couch. Very homey and comfortable & clean.
We could hear the highway at night, but we turned on a fan to drown out the noise.
Excellent home made goods.
Better mattress, lamps that work, better soap/shampoo it was
What a wonderful place to stay! Adorable and spacious cabins, kind and helpful staff, and home cooked baked good for breakfast! I only wish we could have stayed longer. I really appreciated the late check in and their sign being so visible from the road.
Nothing!
Full of charm and friendliness, this is like going back in time. The little cabins have everything you need, and they had firewood and kindling waiting on the porch. The continental breakfast was lovely, they even had gluten free options!
Not the proprietor's fault, but there is road noise from the freeway.
Cute cabin with very comfortable beds. Nice and big with a decent sized kitchen. We didn't cook anything except to microwave but the full sized refrigerator was handy. Close to Freeport for shopping.
The location is near the freeway, although trees separate it from the cabin. When we were outside we could hear the freeway noise, but it was quiet once we went inside. A rocker broke when we sat in it. Looked like they had tried to fix it before. No one was hurt just surprised.
Continental breakfast was a surprise. Homemade granola and baked goods besides coffee and juice. Very homey atmosphere
Bed not so satisfactory.
Adorable retro motor court. Very Maine-ish. Clean, Roomy cabin complete with small kitchen. Homemade baked goods at the office for continental breakfast. Fun overnight stop.
Minor: Cabin was near highway— traffic noise if you want to sit on the porch. Quiet inside the cabin.
Beautiful setting. Clean, comfortable cabins. Would recommend to anyone!
Location and privacy
Breakfast was meager, staff generally not helpful.
