WOW - the BEST place to stay in Midigama 🫶 I spent a wonderful three weeks staying at Lotus Surf House. The couple who own and run the place are so so kind, helpful and caring. As a solo female traveller, I felt extremely safe staying there. It was lovely to chat with other guests, friendly vibes! The guesthouse is only a 2 minute walk to the beach and the nearest restaurants and shops are 1 minute walk. Just off the main road, the area is peaceful. The train passes by a few times a day, however not an issue at all. I stayed a few days in the Queen fan room, the room was simple and spacious. For the majority of my stay, I was in the King Room with AC. This room is brand new, big, balcony, AC & fan and has hot water shower. The room is perfect! WiFi works well for those who work online. A delicious breakfast is included, just choose that morning out of a few choices. When I return to Midigama, I will 100% be staying at Lotus Surf House again. Thank you🧡

The property was in a great location, nice and quiet but very close to the beach. The table tennis table was a great hit with my 13yr old son and the breakfast was great. The staff were very lovely!

Very centrally located next to Midigama station. Simple, clean, lovely staff. Relaxing garden, a washing line to hang bathers and a communal ping pong table.

I only stayed one night as I couldn’t bear the heat. Even with a fan it was so hot and stuffy, but that’s also just the reality of end of the high season. If you want a good night sleep on a Tuesday I’d recommend elsewhere - you can hear the party at Lazie’s from there.

De locatie is top, vlakbij het strand en de hoofdstraat in midigama. Verder is het zitje met de stoelen voor de kamer ook fijn. De kamer was super schoon.

Er was geen airco (wel een ventilator) maar daardoor was het wel wat warm in de nacht en de ventilator maakt veel geluid. Ook was er geen warm water.

A proximidade da praia, o facto de ter pequeno almoço incluído e todas as opções serem igualmente deliciosas e locais. Ponto positivo também é sem dúvida a mesa de pingpong! Os hosts extremamente simpáticos e prestáveis :)

A única opção de água para duche é fria e a rede de mosquitos por cima da nossa cama estava em queda eminente do teto. A porta da casa de banho também não fechava, ficava sempre entreaberta.

Nie spaliśmy finalnie w obiekcie, bo z powodu rzekomego błędu booking.com na nasz pokój był overbooking. Dowiedzieliśmy się o tym w dniu przyjazdu. Właściciel oferował pomoc w znalezieniu podobnej jakości miejsc w tej samej cenie. Jeżeli to faktycznie błąd techniczny portalu - to bardzo dobre zachowanie właściciela. Szkoda, że w końcu nie udało się tam spać.

I had a room without ac and it was fine but for a long period stay won’t recommend (since the humidity is high and my staff couldn’t get dry)

Well positioned just 2 minutes walk from main street and beaches. Nice garden sorrounded by nature and animals.

Very friendly and lovely owner - always helpful, easy going. Yelum can also help you with getting around Sri Lanka. Beautiful garden and 5 min walk to the beach. Close to the train tracks but the train doesn't run very often. We were here 5 years ago and decided to come back this year and will do it again:)

We really liked the nice atmosphere with the garden, we felt like home! Yellum is very friendly and super helpful, he even invited us to a local event, which was a great experience! The food was also very delicious! Thank you so much!!

The owner, Yelum was very reliable and helpful to make guest comfortable during the stay. He is knowledgeable of the area surrounding Midigama to give me suitable advise to do the activities. When I had a hassle with an online booking and refund process of STLB bus, he supported me with a big patient at heart.

Really enjoyed the location and the hospitality. Yelum was super helpful and laidback, really made my stay as easy as possible. The house is a few hundred meters away from the beach and close to all the surf breaks.

Great location only a few minutes walk to a quiet beach that is great for more advanced surfers, with some nice restaurants and juice bars very close by. Unfortunately I missed it, but the beach even had some turtles hatch during my stay. Very helpful and kind owner, who sorted me out with a moped to rent for a few days at a good price. Super tasty breakfast.

Very nice Homestay with various breakfast included. 5 rooms with privat Bath are located into a nice shadowy garden, which makes it a nice familiar athmosphere. The rooms (with fan) are simple and clean and have everything you need. Yelum the SriLankan owner is very nice and helpfull in every situation and speaks very well englisch. He and his family run the location. They also rent Scooter, do laundry, and make nice breakfast. There is a waterstation where you can refill your water (with a box for money when you use it). They are not obtrusive but help when you ask. The Location is just a few minutes walk from the nice beaches from Midigama. You can surf lazy left and lazy right and rent a surfboard just at the corner of the beach. There are a few nice restaurants with good srilankan food nearby. The railwaytracks are nearby but the trains that comes from time to time did not disturb me. The Spa Station next door is run by the brother of Yelum and I can higly recommend to go there! So the whole setting is really nice for a great stay at Midigama. I will come back.

Yelum and his family were such brilliant hosts. If you want a simple spot with great food close to the waves and centre of Midigama, look no further.

We arrived late and he woke up to welcome us. Very nice guy the price is low and seems appropriate for what you get.

Very poorly maintained room, in the middle of the night the fan broke down and it was very difficult to fall asleep with the heat without air conditioning, it was uncomfortable

Sri Lankan rice & coconut muesli with fresh fruits and curd was an excellent breakfast option. They let us help ourselves to tea and coffee which was great. It was a short easy stroll to the beach. And the train station is very close. Great place for dinner just down the road at Chill out cafe. Lovely family runs the guesthouse.

Could do with a little touch up - rooms downstairs need a little maintenance and would be nice to be provided with basics like soap and shampoo, a bath mat and more comfortable pillows. We had the luxury of staying in the brand new big room upstairs which was very nice but the rest of the family were down stairs in older rooms that need some maintenance. But the family is super nice and helpful.

Yelum and his family provide such a welcoming and comfortable stay. The garden is like an oasis away from hustle of main road. Rooms are clean and comfortable and sitting on the porch breakfast is served with a range of options made by Yelum mother, the coconut roti and dhal a highlight for me and granola yogurt and fresh fruit and banana pancakes for my family. Yelum organised an airport pickup at midnight for us and welcomed us at 3 am. Would definitely stay again

Beautiful garden, the owners are so friendly and accomodating and the location is really close to all the cafes and restaurants in Midigama and walking distance to the two best surf spots around. I felt right at home here as a solo fem traveller!

An amazing place and just minutes away from the the shore. We had all the care from Yelem and his family. A good place to have a peaceful rest and meet charming Sri Lankan family:)

We had an amazing stay at Lotus House. The family are so kind and welcoming. The breakfasts every day after surfing are amazing. Great location, only a 2 minute walk from the beach and the local surf spots. A very calm and relaxing vibe - lots of fun on the ping pong table in the garden. Our favourite stay in Sri Lanka, we would highly recommend, and we can’t wait to come back next year!

Location is great: beach is close, there are a couple of local restaurants nearby and a massage spa next door. Garden and rooftop terrace are very good for relaxing. Breakfast options are great.

Very sweet Accommodation! A nice garden with a ping pong table and a great rooftop terrace, partly with a roof to get some shade. Had lots of yoga sessions up there with a wonderful view over the jungle. Location is great, lots of Restaurants around and just a few minutes walking distance to 4 surfspots, suitable for everyone from beginner/intermediates to highly advanced surfers. Yelum and his Father are super friendly and will help you with whatever Question comes up. I will be back :)

Most rooms had AC and hot showers, mine didn’t - which I knew and got used to very quickly so not really a minus :-)

Unfortunately I never got to stay here. I booked a 3 night stay about a week in advance. The property messaged me at 10 am on the day I was supposed to arrive to say that some other guests wanted to stay longer so they had no room for me and they wanted me to cancel my booking. I had to scramble to find something else at the last minute and unfortunately there were not many options left in the area. Not sure what is the point of taking reservations if you do not honor them

Fantastic place, very chilled out, not on the main road like many other places, breakfast was delicious, and they even had a very cute puppy who liked to play a lot!

Originally booked for just one night because wanted to check out, whether this is solid base for my long surf trip in Sri Lanka. And it sure is! So will be spending 6 weeks here. The room is nicer than in the pictures and has all you need to enjoy your time in Midigama. Beds are nice and firm! Second floor terrace is perfect for chilling and has nice long table for remote working. WLAN is easily fast enough for video calls. 3min walk from Lazy left surf spot, and couple good restaurants just 2 minutes away. Yellum and his family are really good people, and always happy to help you out!

Nothing really to complain! Maybe could use better pictures in Booking.com, to really show how nice this place actually is. AND bring your earplugs with you, if you don't like the noise of a train while sleeping. Its running close by, but that is the case in all coastal Sri Lanka. (cant really say whether it runs at night or just early mornings, because I always sleep with earplugs anyway.)

Charming little hotel , Yelum is developing his own dream so good to stay and support him and his family. Basic clean accommodation, I stayed in off season so very quiet. Surfed everyday in Weligama with Yelum taxing me around in his awesome vintage Tuk Tuk and sightseeing for turtles and Galle Fort not far away.

No aircon can be hot if hot at night.

Yellum and his father were very heartfelt, welcoming and courteous. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The hostel is a 2min walk from the beach and is in the middle of the trees. You can enjoy that best on the rooftop terace.

The train station is pretty much right next to the hostel. We weren't bothered at all because we got up early in the morning, bit some people might be. Apart from that, everything was perfect :)

I liked the rooftop and the good breakfast. The owner gave me good tips for my journey and was very nice. The price was very good and nit expansive. The bed room and bathroom had everything that I needed and was clean. Met some nice visitors there.

An absoloute gem. Lotus achieves a rural setting for you to laze away the hours between surfs in a hammock listening to the sounds of the jungle and quiet Midigama. All while being a 2 minute walk from the water at Lazy Lefts and Rights. Yelum and his father are two of the most genuine and welcoming people I have ever met and they couldn’t do more to make you stay easy and introduce you to authentic Sri Lankan culture. Whether it be learning to make rotti and coconut sambul with Yelums mum using fresh spices from her garden or playing Korum over a few beers in the evening, this place is a paradise. Rooms are spacious and clean and the breakfast options are deicious. We became addicted to the best cocunut rotti and Sambol in Sri Lanka but the yoghurts, oats and fresh fruit is great after a dawn surf session. The location is also convenient if you want to go out in ahangama or Weligama and look for hipster coffee, smashed avo on toast etc. (we did a couple of times, only 5 - 10 min tuk-tuk rides respectively but always found ourselves comming back to the authentic solitude of Lotus. Surfing wise you can also walk to rams in 5 mins or Plabtation/ coconuts in 10 mins. Board racks, storage for your birds if you want to head in to the interior for a few days, ping pong and a kitchen stocked with tea and coffee. Yelum also invited us to the local temple to partake in Buddhist full moon celebrations and alms giving. As you can tell, we really didn’t want to leave.
