I felt very happystaying here. Wonderful hospitality, always helped me with any requests. I really miss the delicious khmer food too! Great location, i enjoyed the morning market and watching the life all around. A special place for me, look forward to returning again!
The room was very clean and comfortable. And the family were SO wonderful and helpful! One of the comfiest beds after 1 month in Cambodia.
The only negative is the cockerel who loves a morning by call nearby. But hey, you’re on the Mekong and that’s their life.
The location is great, away from the main town. Right next door to a fascinating little market.
Excellent family homestay. Very accommodating, delicious meals prepared by homeowners for breakfast and dinner. Fantastic tuktuk tour with the owner Mr Sok. Our favourite experience to date - highly recommend.
Amazing property which gives you an insight into Cambodian life! The family really look after you, they took us to a Khmer boxing match and taught us Cambodian dance in the evening! They do a family dinner every night which is super tasty and in the mornings, there is a market right on your doorstep! Would definitely recommend staying here - thank you!!
Rien
A FUIR, malhonnêteté.
Bijzondere ervaring
Het is back to basic, zonder airco.
Staying at Sambat and his family was a beautiful experience, right into the village market. The tour is inspiring and full of discovery. Very helpful to help plan anything as well. And the home made cooking was delicious. It was a beautiful time and even extended nights to appreciate it all a bit longer.
Good price for a private room.
A bit far from the city Center, I feel the hostess is nice just when you get his services (tuk tuk, tours or food) otherwise he doesn't really care.
If you like to try to stay with locals this is the place. We had a room to ourselves but there was a room divided just by a curtain next to us. The toilet and shower are shared but all is clean. The owner is nice, and will cook for you. They can also organize activities. There is also a local market right next to the property which we found out when the noise woke us up at 6 am 😆. It is part of the experience.
My stay here was wonderful. Being in the heart of local life, in the market and discovering Cambodia in this way was incredible. The temples, the Mekong and especially the warmth of the Cambodian people and the children in the villages are in my heart for life. Thank you for everything. I highly recommend taking the time to stay here.
Everything is okay
We were very well received by the hosts who were very friendly and helpful. We we offered to go on a fantastic tour with the owner who made sure we discovered all cultural aspects of life in the region.
Sok and his family were the most amazing hosts. I did a full day tour with him, which included literally everything there was to see. His cooking was amazing and the rooms were very comfortable. The morning market is right outside the door, providing the real village experience. The whole atmosphere was just very heartfelt, I felt right at home. I couldn’t have wished for more!
Autentičnost.
The owner and his young daughter speak good English and are very helpful. The wi-fi works well and the place is clean.
Regrettably, upstairs there is only one toilet, one shower and one basin for all the guests and the family. You can sleep in a normal bedroom with a door (as you would expect) or on a mattress on the floor that is separated from the other area by a semi-transparent curtain only. But even if you are accommodated in a bedroom, you cannot lock the door as there is no lock. Early in April, our bedroom was very hot and the fans didn't really help. Fortunately, there were some storms in the afternoon and evening, so the temperature dropped a little bit. Still, we didn't sleep very well. Not only because of the hot weather, but also because the mattress was quite overused (sagging) and early in the morning, quite well before the dawn, you could hear roosters and noise from the market. One night was enough. Sorry to say, but we had a much better sleep in other homestays in this country.
Sok is a great guide. He has lot’s of knowledge and interesting information. He knows lots of people and business around as wall as great spotts on the Makong River. Very reliable honest and funny person I would highly recommend him as a guide in Kartie (karche). If you’re into simple life and want to experience the authentic Kambodian way of living your more then welcome to stay at Sok’s homestay: “Tonle Mekong homestay”
I was prepared for local homestay so actually there was Nothing I didn’t like.
The other reviews are more or less accurate. Good place if you're looking for the "local experience".
The host is very helpful, but note that some of the things he offers are services (as some other reviews hint). This is not made clear and it is easy to assume he's just being friendly or it's included in your stay; you'll only find out about the costs at checkout if you were not wise enough to ask beforehand. Costs seemed to be within normal range. The main exception for me was the 12USD for the host's tuk tuk sevice for the dolphin tour (round trip + boat tour is 2hrs approx), which does not include the 10USD for the boat tour. I admit I did not do my research properly and thought the place was much closer than it was, but I still think it's too convienient to only mention the 10USD and forget to mention the additional 12USD. If I had known, I would have checked for other options (motorbike, just go to a viewpoint, etc). My point is that the host should be transparent and clear that he's offering services and present the costs beforehand. It's a good place to stay and I still think the host is a good person, but this aspect needs to be improved.
A really traditional, lovely family home. A wonderful experience, at great value... Thank you for welcoming me into your home!
The mosquitos!!🦟
Super fantastic stay in a local homestay. The accommodation was simple, but all you needed to explore Kracheh. The hosts helped us book a tour to see the dolphins in the morning, as well as made sure we had a great dinner every evening. We loved staying here
Everything was Perfect. Sok is the best host, very nice and his family too.
Owner is very friendly and helpful with everything. Location is in a cute, local area which gives it a nice touch of local living
Meals might be cheap for travellers but like with any guesthouse are slightly more expensive compared to street food
Super friendly Homestay which provided an insight into Cambodian culture and an opportunity to see real Cambodian life and work. The hosts couldn’t have done anymore to make this welcoming and went above and beyond to collect me from the village/drive me to get passport photos taken. Can’t recommend highly enough
This homestay is hosted by the one of the most lovely families, who make sure that all of your needs are attended to. The location is a little out of the louder town centre which I really appreciated as it made the evenings cheaper. The hosts will cook you all three meals if you desire for a brilliantly cheap price. I would highly recommend having dinner at the homestay, as it is a very social setting where you can chat with other guests. There is also a nearby market where you can buy fruit for incredibly cheap!
It didn’t bother me as much but the rooms have no air conditioning and are little open to the elements as the roof of the building is not fully connected to the walls.
We loved the chilled atmosphere of the place! The bed was really comfortable and was exactly what we expected! The temperature of the room was absolutely fine, considering as we thought it was going to be dry hot.
Not much.
It is a typical Cambodian homestay, so I didn't have too high expectations. The room was simple, with a big bed (comfortable) and a ventilator. There was a window. I shared a tolilet and a shower. The accomodation has a coommon area downstairs, by the entrance and by the street. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was good, and the family hosting house are very geneour and kind people.
The accomodation is far from the centre of Kratie (more than 30 minutes by walk). My room had a comfortable bed, but it was separated from the room close by by no wall, but only a by a big towel, used as a wall.
We enjoyed de homestay because it gave a very good impression of day-to-day life in this agricultural community with a lot of very poor people. Poor in the aspect of money, etc. But rich in 'lust for live' , laughing and communitysense. We made a dagtrip with the owner in his tuktuk on the countrysite and we helped bij making tobacco, noodles, rice, etc. He speaks good English, has a lot of humor and is a real ambassador for het country. Very early in the morning you hear cock sreaming, then start the dogs barking, a priest is singing poems about the live of Buddha. And at 5 am the fishers start selling and preparing their fish. The market is open.
The family was really nice! I loved the food (they cook for you, vegetarian is also an option!) and the accomodation was simple but good! It's a shared bathroom with all the others. You can book tours and busses directly at the accomodation.
It's about 20-30 mins away from the city, if you want to walk. But if you want to be surrounded by cambodian familiys it's the best way to spend your time! In the morning it's quit loud because there is a local market but with some earplugs you can deal with this kind of situation :-)
The owner and the family is amazing. Great dinners, and do the local tour!!
Real homestay of kind and helpful hosts. You really share their daily life. They took care of me from the moment I arrived downtown until I left. I did not eat there but I've been told by other travelers that dinner is tasty with generous portions. The fan and the anti-mosquito did the job at night.
It's a real homestay, so it's not suitable if you prefer a private 5 stars hotel.
First of all, to grasp the beauty of the place you have to consider that it is a real homestay. The host and his family are more than welcoming and happy to help the guests (e.g. bus bookings for next destination; the host has a beautiful tuktuk to ride you to the city center which is a couple of km far). We had a tuk-tuk countryside full-day tour which was one of the best and authentical experience in our whole trip (forget about those touristic tours offered by other local agencies) with a beautiful and secret sunset spot on the Mekong river, maybe the best of our lives. You can have breakfast or dinner at his place and this allows you to enjoy a cozy and nice atmosphere with other guests and with his family and especially with his daughters, we had a beautiful language and cultural exchange with them, especially with Nicka (who was so funny and cute!), showing and teaching us some traditional dances, they were amazing! Of course you have a shared bathroom and a shared shower (cold shower, but in February it was definitely not a problem) and the rooms are basic but clean, we would recommend ear plugs because of a tipical local market in the street in front of the place, which again is really nice to experience! Definitely worth the price but moreover the experience!!
everything.. the host and his family are amazing people, the location is exactly what you want to experience.. if you're going to Kratie, look no further, this is your place!
"Home stay" They are a very nice family and the guests are wonderful. The time I spend with them is definitely awesome! Orkurn chran my friend Sok Sambath! I'll definitely be back to see you and stay again!
Everything, Sok Sambath and his family were very hospitable, they also let me sleep there for another night even if they didn't have rooms left. Perfect stay in Cambodia.
Nothing
The owner was friendly and welcoming. He cooked us dinner - amok, which was delicious! My room was small, but cozy and clean. It was an interesting experience to stay with the family and share the space with them and other guests. I loved observing the market and people living their life. Nice location too.
I stayed 3 nights and every night I was woken up around 5, by roosters and market, but I didn’t mind it. I know some people might, that’s why I mention it. I got to watch the sunrise every day which was actually a beautiful way to start the day.
The owner is an amazing guy. Very helpful and friendly.
Noisy area in the morning.
One of the most authentic homestays I’ve ever stayed in. The family is so welcoming and having home cooked dinner with all the guests was a treat. Great value for money.
Be prepared to be woken up early in the morning by the cockerel :)
One of the best and most unique experiences of my whole Cambodia trip! Everything was perfect. The homestay is very close to an local market. The family is very friendly and you feel like you are a part of them. I highly recommend to book the local tour at the homestay. You will see dolphines, a local school and many more. A good possibility to see the real cambodia in an less-touristy area.
Everything was perfect.
The owner is a great person that really cares about the local society! It really was my most authentic experience in SEA!
Nothing comes to mind!
We loved the location and our hosts. Being surrounded by the activity of a neighborhood market was the perfect way to start the day and get a slice of Cambodian life. Our room had a bed with comfortable mattress, and both an overhead fan and oscillating fan that kept us very comfortable at night. Soksambath gave us a ride to see the dolphins the day of arrival, then he took us on his wonderful tuk tuk tour including stops at the many cottage industries in the area plus a lot of other interesting places. We enjoyed delicious food his wife and daughter prepared, eaten in the company of other travelers in the open air courtyard of their home. We stayed 3 nights and highly recommend the whole experience. The house is shared with the family and other travelers, but we found people respectful and it was surprisingly quiet and didn’t feel crowded at all. During waking hours the ground level courtyard was the place to gather, eat, and converse.
Travellers need to be aware that this is a homestay in which the family lives and is generously sharing their house with travelers . There is one toilet and one shower, but we never had any problem accessing the facilities.
Amazing home stay in Kratie! This is a very authentic experience where you get to stay/eat with the family. We did the tuk tuk tour with Mr Sok which was really interesting and showed us the day in the life of a Cambodian. Mr Sok always helped us organise a dolphin tour and bus tickets to our next destination. It can be a little noisy in the morning as the market is right outside. We didn’t mind as we were up early everyday doing this. Highly recommend!
I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Sok and his family. They were so kind and welcoming to their home. It’s a true homestay where you live and eat with the family. The local village tour that he runs was amazing. We got to see so many things that you would miss without a local guide. He said for him it’s not a tour, it’s just going to visit his friends. The veggie noodle soup for breakfast was my favorite.
There was nothing I didn’t like but just a few notes to manage your expectations. You are sharing the home, bathroom, etc with the family. No AC and some of the rooms are just divided by curtains, not walls. But none of this matters, your stay will be amazing!!
This was a true homestay. We were in a section of the house. If you wanted you can take delicious meals and our host offered a wonderful full day local tour. This is not luxury. Shared space with shared bathroom but it works well.
No complaints
It's a lovely place! The beds are comfortable and covered by a mosquito net. The facilities are simple and clean. There's free drinking water and they have a restaurant in the morning if you want to have breakfast. The village tour is super interesting and the whole family is just really lovely!
Be aware that there is a morning market right in front of the guesthouse (which is super nice to go to) so it gets quite noisy early on!
The location is fantastic close to town and in the village with a local market every morning. Tours and services provided for by the owner were invaluable. The home is warm, and the family is so welcoming. It was our first homestay, and we never felt like we were imposing. Home is also safe. Family is always around. Food was scrumptious. They accommodated me as I don't eat fish, and we ate there 3 out of the 4 nights. Was so Good. The local market right on the street has fantastic ice coffee, pastries, and fresh fruit. The family does make breakfast as well, so that's an option.
Was a little noisy in the early mornings, BUT it wasn't something we were too worried about. Got us up to do the activities.
All family Is really kind, help you with tour, transport, offer you a typical dinner and Little trip to see the real daily Life of people there. Nice typical house.
Some rooms haven't Doors.
Authentic experience with a very friendly family! The room was spacious enough, the bed was soft and big, and the bathroom was clean. The food was so delicious and the experience of eating at one big table with all the guests and the family was fantastic. The tour is really worth it, you’ll definitely see dolphins.
This is a unique place to enjoy this area. The day tour is highly recommended, a perfect way to discover the way the locals live, and to watch the dolphins.
Don’t expect luxury, it’s very basic, but so cozy.
Loved the family. So warm and friendly and spoke very good English. The food was delicious and great value. The tour was unforgettable. Ok, so it's a no frills accommodation, but if you are looking for an authentic Cambodian experience, you will not be disappointed. I will definitely go back.
Leaving.
It's the perfect stay to get to know Cambodia. The family is super friendly and you wake up in the more rural cambodian life. It was the most authentic experience i had during my trip. You can also book tours (the local tour is great and i learned many things about local food production)
Traditional authentic Cambodian no frills homestay. Homecooked dinners were delicious and plentiful. Owner and family friendly and attentive and arranged trips and transportation. Wonderful experience having the local market right next door. If you are after the real Cambodia without the tourist accoutrements of air conditioning, private bathroom and swimming pool then this is the place to go.
Firstly this is the best Homestay we have had during our 1 month in Cambodia. If you want an authentic local stay, this is the place to come - local market, school and friendly locals. The hosts family are so friendly, with nothing appearing to be a problem (whether it’s booking tickets, hiring scooters, etc). It was also such a nice touch to have the rice wine after the fabulous evening meal as well. The accommodation and facilities are amazing, great wifi and everywhere is super clean. The rooms we stayed in was spacious, and remained cool, during the day and night. The outside seating area is a great space to chill-out, eat meals and relax. Location was ideal for us, being close to all the amenities, but also far enough away to be peaceful and relaxing.
Everything was amazing
This place is really exceptional and so authentic. If you want to live as locals, this is the place for it :) I have nothing to complain about as it was just awesome. Yes, you are staying in the middle of the morning market - but it's great to experience it :) Yes, you will share everything with the family - but it's why you choose this place, right? Yes, it's louder - I highly recommend to bring the earplugs - but it is as it is :) I did a Local tour - I did many tours in my travel life - and this one was one of the best I have ever had. If you are around Kratie, do not miss this place! What should I say - Thank you for everything, good luck in future!
