location
room was a bit pokey.
Very old, in need of a good reno.
Location. Friendly staff
Coffee tea etc all provided, but A small bottle of milk would have been nice as I was too late arriving to buy any.
Friendly staff.
Drafty window the curtain was blowing all night. Chub bath/shower difficult to access due to height lifting leg to get up into it and recent hip replacement. If I had known the shower was like this probably wouldn't have stayed.
The allocated room (more like a storeroom cupboard afterthought!) had some kind of generator or aircon thing going all night and loud. No window to open for fresh air. A sick room. Should not be let. Got a nasty headache. Old toilet and health/safety non compliant shower room!
Service in dining room good.
This is an elderly property and assessments need to recognize the age and style. The room was clean and the staff friendly It was a good spot to overnight
The restaurant an bar was great the meal was outstanding staff were friendly an lovely ,location was good
The bed was uncomfortable there was dead flys on window an also on one of the beds rooms a pretty average but ok for just one nite stay
Basic pub accommodation - Nothing flash, but good value for money
Access after hours was brilliant 👍
Nah don’t change anything 👍
Location was central.
The room was old and the smell of cooking from the downstairs kitchen permeated the whole room. It was so bad that we had to open a window altho it was 12C at night and our clothes smelt of it. The whole bathroom was very old style with a small but high tub. It would be difficult for older customers to get in and out of the tub. Furthermore the corridors to the rooms were dimly lighted so it was difficult to see where to put the room keys into the lock.
Clean and comfy beds. Friendly staff.
Noisy trains opposite. Kettle didn't work (I went to sleep as id travelled far). TV didn't work which was annoying. I wanted to relax. Several plugs didn't work.
Resturant food very good and priced at the current rate.
Beds and furniture showing their age.
Hotel rating was 5 star..I would rate it backpacker level..Rooms old poorly maintained, toilet dirty,Lino in bathroom cracked.
The entrance to the accomodation was very run down and the room was tired looking
Felt like home
Central location , hot water
Toilet and cistern dirty, bathroom not clean, no bedside lamp so couldn't read. Very noisy, room next door had multiple visitors late, noisy vehicle doing donuts in car park
The location was great
The room itself was dated, the shower over the bath had a window where the building across the way was clearly visible. Anyone looking over would have seen EVERYTHING above my waist. I had to put a towel up to block the view. The carpets were dirty looking and the bathroom itself had very poor lighting. We decided not to stay the 2nd night...No refund offered, it was worth it to not stay there again.
bar downstairs noisy
L’emplacement et l’accueil Bon rapport qualité prix et excellent restaurant Service et personnel très agréable
Immeuble ancien très sonore
Location was close to family
The bed was so uncomfortable
Host were good. Location was good.
I understand that this accommodation is dated but the having a good clean would have been more ideal. Regardless of the cost the shelving and beside cabinet placemat should have been cleaner, mould on fabric is not nice. Little bit unsure about placement of microwave (outside the room) overall it is what it is i guess.
Clean and comfortable with a restaurant which was very useful.
Rather noisy as very close to railway line and busy road
Bit run down
Value for money, cleanliness, friendly staff. Its not a 5 star hotel (but neither are its prices). Good value for money and I'd stay there again.
Everything was good.
The room was well equipped with all the necessary appliances to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The fridge, toaster, electric kettle, and heater were a great plus. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets to keep us warm. And clean place.
Unfortunately, noise from other guests running in the hallway disrupted my sleep. It wasn't a problem with the hotel, but rather inconsiderate behavior from some guests.
Accommodation was what you would expect for the budget price. It was clean, comfy, but dated. The staff were amazing and when something was asked for (iron and board) they were quick to assist. The courtesy van saved the day for us during our stay and we were so glad we stayed here. The bar and extra amenities were convenient and added to the stay. Thanks so much PK!
The weather was hot during our stay, a stronger fan in the room would have been great, but we spent our down time down stairs so it wasn’t so bad :)
Stairs too steep, narrow and difficult with luggage Electric blanket and light above bed don’t work Window too tiny and high up so claustrophobic Couldn’t shut window so in draught all night Sheets and towel clean but No mirror in room Shower fan fitting broken and lying in shower tray Step up into shower far too high and nothing to hold on to Taps too hard to press and hold Smell of fat permeating building was sickening
Magnificent breakfast!
Lost on pool table!
Good meals in the Cafe
Decor a little dated
Location
It was fine single accomodation
The shub was dangerously high off the ground with no safety rails, let staff know our tv wasn’t working they came up and looked at it and said they would get someone to fix it (never heard anything back from anyone) there wasn’t a bin available in the bathroom, we weren’t shown properly to our room just given a key and said it’s up there. I don’t think this hotel is suitable for a leisure stay more set up for truckers, our power board kept turning on and off so we couldn’t use it to make breakfast, the fan sounded like it was going to die while using it but it was to hot not to have it going
Location, Front of house welcoming, staff very friendly and meals were good compliments to the chef
Nothing really
Comfortable bed. Friendly traditional pub experience
Awkward shower.
Comfy bed
Very dated broken light fittings draughty windows really noisey
Pretty good no kitchen .priced good so get what you pay for overall good
location
no heater in room, It is winter, no cups or anything to make coffee just a jug
Location. Staff tried to be helpful.
Don't stay here if you can help it! Room cramped, beds not nice, no hot water either night! Asked staff Friday night, and they said usually no hot water from 5-10pm. Wait half an hour, should be ok, nope! Waited till 11pm, Luke warm, Saturday after 2pm still no hot water.
Great food great people👍👌
The staff were good except we found the middle aged Indian man to be a bit pushy rude and abrupt ladies were nice and the young fella
Bed was comfortable
No hot water at 10 pm
The Darfield hotel is pleasant and well located in central Canterbury between Christchurch and Arthur's Pass. There are scenic places to visit in the area including the great walkway at the Rakaia Gorge, for example. The hotel staff are always pleasant and helpful. The Pub and restaurant downstairs are very good. There is plenty of parking at and around the hotel.
If you need sleep, it's probably best not to stay during the weekend as there tends to be quite a few well lubricated guests carrying on socialising upstairs in the hotel hallway late into the night and the sound proofing of the hotel is not good.
Wonderful friendly and helpful staff. Cosiest of fires in dining room!
Electric blanket, tea making facilities in room
room was small, stain on ceiling, bed uncomfortable, noisy
Location Room was lovely and had a jug and toaster Microwave in hall to use
Noise I stayed 5 nights and loud music played every night I got very little sleep as rooms were not semi sound proof
Very disappointed from the outset. Had to ring and wait for someone to come and let us in. The room was really dated, small and not at all what I wanted. Ended up finding another booking closer to the airport and leaving Darfield. Only stayed an hour. I wasn't comfortable at all, decided to write it off as a bad experience.
Had evening meal, excellent, great service
Lack of power points in room
The hotel manager was great to deal with. Very friendly and like able. We unfortunately took the hotel key to the airport but be was amicable to converse with in this situation.
Location was good easy to find
no bowl in room to use for my breakfast
Room was ok
Good location and restaurant downstairs
Very dated and common bathroom and toilet immediately across the hallway.
Location and cheap for one nite. Dining room had good cheerful service and receptionist really friendly.
Lack of plugs, cheap circuit of 4 only use one at a time, had to climb up high to shower, taps over sink did not work properly, surfaces dirty, carpet dirt. Dining room meal awful—chips way overcooked and dry, salad of about 10 small leaves ,few bits hard red cabbage, sliver of t0mato and fish average.
Lovely, friendly staff. Really comfortable bed!. Great value for money.
Needs a bit of a tidy up outside
Nice little hotel rooms could do with a make over especially bathroom.Shower not ideal for our age group had to step up to one foot to get in.Staff very friendly.unfortunately close to railway.Lots of freight trains at night.Noisy.

Continent easy location
Beds were comfy and location quiet once bar closed. Staff friendly and assisted with early check in.
Very tired property, and not the cleanest, but expected as located above local pub.
The bed was super comfy. Such good people. Nothing was a problem. I needed an iron. No problem. I needed a hairdryer. No problem. Such friendly staff.
Climbing in and out of the chub for a shower. I'm a bit stiff in the hips and was a little nervous without a handle to grab for support. Oops. I never looked at photos when booking...my bad.
Staff was awesome. Power was out when we arrived and staff went above and beyond to aid in our stay
