The staff was very friendly. She offered rides and suggested great places to visit around the area. The lodge was also nice and clean. It was a truly pleasant and memorable stay.
Mountain access lift is right behind the lodge. There is great storage for your gear. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant on property was great for breakfast and dinner. Very happy we chose this location.
Super close to the chair lift directly behind the building. Attentive, friendly staff, clean rooms.

Es un hotel acogedor y con personal muy amable y agradable
La comida… mucha hamburguesa y desayuno básico
• First impression Brandon picked us up at Myokokogen Station and took great care of us from the start. This was our first ski trip as a family (mom, dad, and child), and he helped with everything — ski rental, where to find an instructor, and all the basics. We felt impressed right away. • The accommodation The place is cozy and simple. No elevator, but it’s only three floors, so it wasn’t a problem at all. The bathrooms are shared but very clean. Everyone keeps things tidy, so it didn’t feel uncomfortable. Guests are quiet and respectful, so we slept very well. • For skiing There’s a proper drying room for boards, boots, and wet gear, which is super helpful. The best part is the location — only 1–2 minutes walk to the ski lift. If we got tired, we just walked back to rest, then went out again easily. • Food The food here is good, mostly Western style since many guests are Australians. Not very Japanese style, but we still enjoyed it. If you want something different, there’s a really good pizza place within walking distance. • Area & convenience Not many Thai guests here yet, which we personally like because it’s peaceful and not crowded. After 8 PM, it’s very quiet. There’s no 7-Eleven nearby, just a small local grocery shop. If possible, renting a car is a good idea since the ski area closes at 4 PM and you can drive into town for more restaurant options. There is a bus, but we didn’t try it. • Overall We really loved staying here. Even as comfort-loving people, we felt totally comfortable. Brandon is super kind and always happy to help with anything. Thank you again, Mr. Brandon! We’ll definitely come back again 😊❄️
We stayed for 3 nights and our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay. We’re not sure if we were supposed to inform the front desk in advance, so this might have been a misunderstanding. There was also quite a bit of dust in the room. However, we didn’t spend much time in the room since we were mostly out skiing or relaxing downstairs, so it wasn’t a big issue for us.
Nice property next to lifts

Location, location, location!
Red Fox Lodge was perfect for our stay in Myoko. It was right next to the ski lift (practically on it!), it was attached to ‘The Den’ which served breakkie, lunch & dinner which was super convenient & had great food. Staff were lovely & the lodge was super comfortable & well kept.
N/A! :)
駅までの送り迎えに柔軟に対応してくれた!とても良いスタッフとオーナー!
The staff were amazing, they went above and beyond with advice and help to make our stay amazing. The location is fantastic, the ski lift is just behind the lodge. Pretty much door to door skiing. Really nice vibe too. Family friendly.
Perfectly located next to Suginohara Romance Chair lift; Brendan - the friendliest and helpful owner/host; drying room for all our clothes & equipment after a day on the slopes; great western food at the connecting restaurant The Den.
Location is great and walkable to Suginohara Pair lift 1.
Facilities are mainly old and non-repair. Bathroom is so pity and cold. Room is quite small for snowboard trip. No cleaning room or service during the stay.
Proximity to chair lift, beds and facilities extremely comfortable. Staff extremely help
Fantastic location, right on the ski slopes. The whole vibe of the place is the perfect balance of fun and relaxing - awesome staff and great management team supporting them.
Nothing - couldn’t fault it
Friendly and helpful staff. Great location- ski in and out (our room looked over the start of the chairlift and mountain) quiet village and Onsen nearby. Resturant/bar attached. Rooms were cozy and warm. Good atmosphere for families with kids and teenages area.
Nothing. Everything was great
The clean rooms and comfortable beds. The staff was very welcoming and friendly.
Not having a toilet in our room.
Genuinely the best place we have ever stayed. We have done many snow trips in Aus and Abroad, this takes the cake. This is the best place we have been too. I'll try to keep it short: - Staff all genuinely care and check in with you each day. Brendon the owner continually goes above and beyond to make your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. - Great food, drinks and service. We found it great eating Japanese on the mountain while snowboarding and then coming back for something a bit more western and close to home for dinner. - The lodge is family run and feels like another home when abroad, multiple spacious areas to relax, wood fire, drying room, kids room, lounge, vending machines, restaurant. Honestly what more could you ask for. - Convenience: Chairlift is right outside the lodge, food onsite as well as a conscience store a 3 minute walk away. They let you arrange pick up and drop off to the train station or town so no need to worry about taxis or busses. Lastly, the care. We were late, lost a room key, mixed up our days up and missed check out. Their first priority was make sure we were happy and had a roof over our heads. They were booked out and still managed to sort us somewhere to stay. Great Lodge, even better location, and best of all, the amazing staff.
スタッフ明るくて対応が優しい

Service was very good, thank you Brandon!
Amazing location, very friendly staff, cozy fireplace, convenient drying room! Perfect place to stay for a ski trip at Suginohara.
Perfect location about 50m from an access chairlift. Room was comfortable with a great view. Breakfast was simple but filling and inexpensive. The bar/restaurant was great but a bit quiet at the end of the season. Ski, boot and gear drying room well set up. Staff were fantastic, welcoming, offering great advice, free pickup from the station etc.
Nothing. A great ski lodge. The village is a bit quiet but has a few very good dining options. I would probably recommend a hire car if you want to visit nearby resorts as access between them is a bit of a challenge.
Friendly vibe helpful staff. Value for money.
Location, lift proximity and view of the room!
Everything you needed all in one place, couldnt get any closer to the chairlift. Staff were fantastic and we really enjoyed our stay.
Perfect location.. Ski in/out.. next to a twin lift that delivers u to the main Gondala..
Loved it. A few steps to the chairlift. Lift passes available from the hotel. Comfy beds. Friendly staff. Charming little resort. Aussie food in the restaurant plus a few nice places to eat in strolling distance. Lift to the station.
Minor cons which were easily offset by the overall great experience: Shared bathrooms were clean and close to our room but the showers were a couple of storeys down from our room and more rustic. Without a car, it is possible to visit other ski areas, but it was tricky. Buses are infrequent and finish very early. We waited 2.5 hours for a taxi back from Akakura one evening - book taxis early or hire a car as everyone advises 😅. Having said that, we will happily come again without a car, and just stay local.
Amazing stay. Brendon, Ash, Travis, and Nev were all fantastic. Picked me up from the station and made me feel at home from the moment I stepped inside. Great restaurant and breakfast. You can see the lifts from the lodge. I would absolutely stay here again and already wish I could come back!
Brendan was very hospitable. Took time out to always say hello & check if you were happy & needed anything. Buffet breakfast was fresh & tasty. Great start Breakie for a days skiing. Rooms were spacious & clean. Nice cosy areas to sit & enjoy after a day on the slopes.
I have just completed a 2 week stay here with my wife and 5 kids and to say the stay was enjoyable is an understatement. We booked the family suite which comprised of 2 rooms with an interconnecting door. Each room had the most comfortable western King size bed and a single. The quality of the linen was not lost on me nor were the 5 star grade pillows. This was changed many times during our stage, without asking. We drove from Tokyo and always had a parking spot at the door along with snow clearing equipment. Toilets are on each floor in groups of 3 male and 3 female cubicles. At first I thought this would be annoying but I can assure you having a large group conduct there business away from the room turned out to be a blessing.. Each morning we dined at the in house restaurant “The Den”. Breakfast was a continental style buffet with alcarte options available for premium coffees and breakfast items. Located in Suginohara, restaurants are limited so many nights we enjoyed the western menu of the Den. The owner, Brendan, is a chef and the quality of the dishes were a testament to his knowledge and skill. Well priced, with a nice variety. It is also licensed with ressonable priced alcohol. Skiing was the main reason for our stay and the location could not be better., My window was a mere 20m from the Ski Lift. Although we didn’t;t take advantage of it, Brendan was more than happy to assist guests with pickup and drop off to surrounding stations,. I left the best till last. Having skied all over the world, including 3 trips this year alone, I have never experienced a better boot room. Ample storage with actual boot and glove driers. So much hanging space for wet skis, boards and outer wear. It was always warm and access is right by the front door with plenty of room for multiple people. I will definitely be back. Thanks to Brendan and his team for the consistent great service and never ending smiles.
Location location! Red Fox Lodge was ski in, ski out with a 5 minute double chair ride right behind the lodge to take you up to Myoko Suginohara gondola. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms had a view of either Suginohara mountain or Kurohime mountain. The continental breakfast was only $10 and had a good selection of pastries, fruit, yoghurt, boiled eggs and even Vegemite was available!
The showers were located on the ground floor just next to the reception area and were very cold in the bathroom. Floors were not heated. There is an onsen but it is not in use. The food at The Den restaurant was nice, but limited to Western food. Would be nice to have some Japanese food options.
Position to the lift was great. Adjoining Bar/restaurant really convenient. Super clean accommodation with excellent staff Comfortable beds
Amazing staff and location, everyone willing to help out. We had a great time.
Price is very high for shared bathroom and toilets and having to pay breakfast on top. Due to the location.
The Red Fox Lodge is a great spot to stay! It has a chairlift right out the back door for easy access to hit the slopes. The breakfast is great, an American style buffet spread and it's nice having the restaurant as there aren't many other food options super close by. The lodge is super clean, quiet, and has games and a TV to relax and enjoy with friends and family. And all the staff were really helpful and kind. Would definitely stay again!
Nothing, it was all really great and is exactly how it's advertised.
Staying at red fox lodge was unforgettable! With the chairlift right at the door, it couldn’t be more convenient. The lodge’s authentic Japanese charm, cozy clean rooms, and fantastic facilities like the drying room and ski storage made every day a joy. Waking up, having breakfast, and jumping straight onto the gondola? Pure magic. Great communal spaces, a fun bar, and Niigata’s famous snow made it even better.
Great location at bottom of ski lift. Great lodge for a family ski holiday
We loved Red fox lodge. It was run by an awesome Australian crew so it felt like home for us and we were sad to leave. Brendan and the crew were so welcoming! Slopes were much less crowded than the ones you see in Japan. Was our favourite place in Japan and we will be visiting every time we come back to Japan and it was one of our favourite places to stay ever!! Thank you so much <3
Frankly it’s Brendan and his staff that make this place. It felt like visiting a friend’s lodge. It is also literally next to the beginner chair lift!! This was perfect for our family who are all at different experience levels. Brendan and his whole crew are fabulous! Nothing was too much trouble for them and they always made us feel welcome. I was initially nervous about the shared toilets and showers but I didn’t have to be - every thing was kept clean at all times and I never felt that I needed to wait even when the lodge was at full capacity. Gear drying room was amazing, small details like inside slippers, loads of shared living space, hairdryers, entertainment room, make this place perfect for families. Brendan was kind enough to pick us up from Kurohime train station as Myokokogen station was snowed in, which we were so grateful for! The breakfast is listed as continental but was generous and varied, we ate dinner here most nights too.
Not an issue with the property as such but next time we stay here we may hire a car! The closest onsen was closed for maintenance but there is convenient shuttle bus that leaves from around the corner to the other largest onsen (tattoo friendly) and other restaurants.
Staying at Redbox lodge for our first Japan ski trip was a such a pleasant experience. The lodge situates right in front of the chairlift. You can’t ask for any more convenience than that. Brendon, the lodge owner looked after us with all our extra needs like ski hire and chair lift tickets, with ready smiles and such friendliness. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. We definitely would recommend Redfox lodge to our families and friends and will return for another visit soon.
- Staffs were very friendly and helpful - The location is very close to chair lift
- Dinner was a bit pricey.
This hotel felt like home and the staff was so friendly, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!
Staff was awesome
Great condition
We stayed at the Red Fox Lodge in Myoko for three fabulous nights. It was very comfortable for our family of 4, with adjoining rooms. We loved the authentic Japanese feel of the lodge. Very warm and Brendon, the host, was very kind and friendly and helped us get around town and recommended some delicious traditional restaurants. The boys were lucky enough to get some end of season snow to play in and build a snow man and we were able to do some beautiful treks through the village and up to the waterfall. It was very helpful to have an English speaking host, as he was able to tell us a lot about the history of the area and showed us rice paddies which are still operational after 600 years. There is a traditional Onsen a short 5 min walk around the corner which was well worth visiting too. We loved Myoko during the spring time. It was a peaceful change of pace to the big cities and gave us a chance to relax and enjoy walking in nature and looking at the many cherry blossoms that we in bloom with comfortable temperatures each day between 18-23 degrees. Well worth a visit. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Many thanks Brendon for your warm hospitality’s hospitality.
The staff was really relaxed and helpful, breakfast had some nice small touch like fresh strawberries, and the very warm drying room for skies and gear worked extra well.
Outstanding! Red Fox is a real find ! The owner went out of his way to assist us and the staff were also excellent
Excellent location, being able to wake up, have breakfast and jump on the chairlift. Great facilities, cool hangout area, beers/food at the bar and friendly staff. Brendan is a legend! Would highly recommend 🤙
Very comfortable beds, super accommodating lodge with a perfect location to the slopes!
The ski lift was just outside. The snow was great. The lodge work well.
Hard to travel around without a car.
Before I get going - we have tested and stayed in lots of lodges in Japan. So please consider this an informed view. And independent - just in case you thought I am somehow connected with the owner. If you are looking to an immersive Japanese experience this is not for you. If you are looking for easy access to great snow and a comfortable relaxed stay - check this out. This lodge attracts clients who are considerate and informed citizens of the globe. The clients love the Japanese culture, love the snow and want to be in good shape each day to make the most of all it. A safe place for the kids to have some time and give the parents time to relax. So easy to find a quiet spot in the lodge and enjoy the company of other guests if you are looking for that. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room and bedding, it as warm and cosy. The drying room and facilities ensure you are dry and ready to slip into to some dry warm gear. Niigata is regarded as one of THE best places for their snow. They were ready and willing to help us with our dietary restrictions - thanks! The shared areas are comfortable and quite large for the number of guests. Location, location, location! Right at your back door - yes RIGHT there is a chair to the gondola! AND when you are ready to return - you guessed it - you can ride to the back door. I love a quiet night’s sleep - every night I got just what I love. You are in a small Japanese town. If you want to explore - Recommended - you are strongly advised to hire a car (with snow tyres). There is a Pizza place within walking distance. The local public Olsen is worth the short walk to relax those muscles.
Nothing I can think of….
Very good location close to lift.
No negative all good
Relaxed feel Great Hosts
Not sure
Excellent location, easy to reach from Tokyo and very close to ski resort (Suginohara). Very welcoming family and accommodating, brings you to the ski gondola in the morning and have a convenient restaurant in this peaceful little village. Ski resort was excellent and truly enjoyed our stay! Very good value for money.
Village is rather quiet and not many restaurants or shops (2 very small and local mini-markets).
Amazing staff, extremely friendly and accommodating, they made our stay wonderful!
Once you entered the Lodge you can quickly tell it wont be the usual Hotel. The owner and a big part of the staff are Australians and same for the restaurant in the hotel that was offering different Aussies recipes. The owner and the staff were always willing to help us and advice us.
The breakfast options were limited
