The property is beautiful and in a very secluded part.
It’s getting old and things are starting to break. My toilet commode was broken. It shook evertime I sat on it
Beautiful house located on stunning, quiet beach. Lovely pool and grounds. Food was excellent quality.
We stayed here off season and were the only guests during some of our stay which meant we had the house to ourselves but also meant service was more hands off. Choices for dinner are limited.

We loved the design of the house, the friendly staff, the food and the beach
We found the dogs on the beach a bit intimidating
Wonderful staff Great food Peaceful Great location

Everything was exceptional - perfect location and beautiful rooms. Food was delicious and the best breakfasts of our entire trip. Staff were very friendly and extremely efficient - you’re own personal butler! Just fantastic.
Nothing.
This was the best hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka. The sea is calm for swimming, but also good for belly surfing (hotel provides). There are some small restaurants near by ( Sea Dragon was the best one we tried). Breakfast was good, they give you a menu and you can keep ordering whatever you like (I liked their banana bread :) )
I still would give property a 10, but maybe some more activities to spend the time would be good. Maybe like table tennis or small pool table would be nice to have. Nearby town is 10min drive- if you want to go grocery or some restaurant.
Great location and architecture style
Too expensive for what it is
The property was absolutely beautiful and the chance to stay in such an architectural house was memorable. We had a room with our own private courtyard, which gave us the benefit of being able to arrange a massage in privacy. The property was beautifully maintained. Being footsteps from a secluded beach was also wonderful.
Such a beautiful hotel and the staff are amazing. Highlight of our trip in Sri Lanka!
Quiet and close to beautiful beach
beautiful property and location. low key colonial vibe on wonderful beach. food was good but not amazing.

Great location at a very quiet beach. We were upgraded to the Master suite - huge and very comfortable 4-poster bed with impeccable mosquito netting. Simply stunning and enormous. To be mentioned that there are no glass windows but sliding wooden shutters. Lovely garden with ample space, parading peacocks. Wonderful staff, great cooking. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable - we will back in due time!
could not think of anything
Une adresse intimiste où l'on se sent de suite chez soi. Une décoration soignée et raffinée dans le moindre détail. Chaque élément est à sa place. Tout est pensé pour apaiser l'âme et le corps. Personnel discret et attentionné. Cuisine savoureuse.
Tout était parfait.
Everything. The secluded location, the sound of the waves at night, the room, the chef and his wonderful flavours. The smiles of those that work there. Everything.
Nothing.
Exclusive. Perfect for a special way to begin or end your trip in Sri Lanka. We celebrated our anniversary here. Staff was having butler service. The architecture and space right in front of a private beach with wild monkeys, peacocks, and birds on the property were awe inspiring.
Amazing place to stay from the building to decor, staff, food - paradise!
Minor issue as hairdryer didn’t work - but who cares when on holiday!
Fab breakfast and perfect location
No tea making facilities in the room and no fridge to keep water cold
Unglaublich, wie Privathaus mit full service
Our stay at the last house was sheer perfection!
Everything was perfect, including the food!!
The hotel was excellent overall, great location, beautifully designed and furnished, friendly staff, lovely food, great room and view
Nothing. It was all I could wish of a small boutique hotel
Beautiful tranquil location. Lovely decor. Comfortable seating areas. Beautiful pool. Friendly staff and excellent service

The Last House came recommended and it exceeded all expectations. We had the whole place to ourself at 1 point. Everything was perfect from the room, to the garden, to the pool, to the pristine and empty beach. The staff are wonderful and the food is divine. You have to go to understand how wonderful this place is as it is hard to express in words. 3 wonderful relaxing nights in this little peace of heaven.
I haven't stopped thinking about this place since we left. Its a total oasis, an easy tuktuk rude from more of a 'scene' in Hiriketya should you want it, but nothing but the sound of the waves and wildlife at the end of a single track lane. The garden steps directly onto Mawella beach - gold sand and huge waves that we could hear from our bedroom. The Geoffrey Bawa Architecture is beautiful, we could see the sea from our bed, and so much colour was used throughout the house. The team are so kind but really relaxed which we loved. They even played cricket with my husband! We visited in low season (early October) but would love to come back. We dreamt of filling every room with our friends and family. Please stay here and experience a beautiful home and authentic Sri Lankan hospitality.
Nothing - we loved every minute.
Séjour fantastique!!! Lieu incroyable, équipe merveilleuse ! Tellement triste de n’être restés que deux nuits ! Lieu paradisiaque et nourriture tellement raffinée … la meilleure du Sri Lanka !
We had a very special stay at The Last House. This is low key refinement at it's best. A place one can truly relax. The service was attentive and the staff were so lovely. We were welcomed with warm smiles and didn't want to leave! The breakfasts are some of the best we had in Sri Lanka and all the produce was very fresh. We also stayed in for dinner and it too was exceptional. We loved the interior design and the architecture of Geoffrey Bawa. This was a classy stay in an incredible tropical setting.
It was all perfection!
Todo increíble. El sitio es precioso, el personal súper atento y la comida la mejor que comimos en Sri Lanka. Super recomendable
The location is amazingly beautiful at the end of the beach. The staff is excellent and super friendly and the food divine.
We loved everything about this place! Beautifully located, amazing pool, fantastic beach, mesmerising wildlife walking around the garden (we saw monkeys, lots of birds including owls and peacocks and lizards) and great, freshly prepared food. Some of the best fish we had in Sri Lanka! Great cocktails and ice tea. Fabulous desserts, too. The hotel was happy to organise great excursions for us (we went to Galle, Mulgirigala temple and also to Rekawa Beach at night where we saw turtles). The room was cleaned daily, fresh filtered water was provided. Everything was perfect.
Everything was amazing.
Wow! We stayed in nine hotels over 14 days and this hotel was by far the best. It is beautifully designed, as you would expect from a Geoffrey Bawa house, peaceful and totally relaxing. Our room had its own private garden. The hotel is located directly onto the most gorgeous beach, and there were monkeys and peacocks in the garden. We stayed two nights but really wished we had stayed longer. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent and staff were lovely. I particularly liked the banana bread served at breakfast. It would be really hard to find a nicer hotel than this!
Nothing!
We absolutely loved our time here. The hotel is beautiful and so peaceful, and it feels like you’ve got your own private beach. The food was lovely and the staff were amazing. Couldn’t recommend any more!

The Last House is a beautiful property. You relax and feel calm as soon as you arrive. Sometimes it can always feel to clam, as there are only 5 rooms and you might be the only ones having dinner at the hotel on any given night. We loved our room and especially the outside shower. Service is impeccable and they help you arrange tuk tuks as the property is a bit out of the way.
Maybe the amount of mosquitoes, but it’s of course not the hotel’s fault.
The whole place was beautiful. The spaces in the building gave it such a sense of peace and calm. A truly magical place. It also had a fantastic beach for surfing and a pool for ultimate relaxation
Having to leave...
Such a beautiful property, particularly if you are a Geoffrey Bawa fan. Breakfast was delicious.
The service was very reactive and not proactive - if you wanted anything you had to hunt for the staff in the kitchen. We never got offered anything the whole time we were there. They were nice but could be more “available”
I loved this place, it was probably the best place we stayed at during our 1 month trip around Sri Lanka. Mawella beach is stunning and quiet. Good food, lovely helpful staff. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. A bit expensive (but it is a Bawa house) and the location is far from everything, cars and tuk tuks don’t come that easily. The beach has big waves so not the best place for small children.
An incredibly special and unique place to spend a few days.
A place where time slows, nature and architecture blend seamlessly, and every moment feels effortless. Nestled on the best beach in the Tangalle area, it invites long walks on soft sand and perfect swims in warm, gentle waves. The rooms are stunning, filled with light and a quiet elegance that makes you feel at home yet somewhere extraordinary. The staff here are simply wonderful - warm, attentive, and always making sure your stay is unforgettable. And the breakfast? Absolutely incredible. Try the buffalo curd and the spicy Sri Lankan Omelett. We’re usually not the kind of travelers who spend much time in hotels during the day or have all our meals on-site, but The Last House is different. You don’t want to leave. Lunch and dinner here are as special as the place itself, making it easy to just stay and soak in the atmosphere. Step onto the beach, and if you're lucky, you might meet local fishermen who invite you to a sand game (spoiler: you will lose). A huge thank you to our fantastic driver, Taraka, who was arranged by the hotel and became our trusted companion for the entire trip. Always on time, incredibly skilled, and just a wonderful person - we highly recommend his service. The Last House is not just a hotel - it’s a meditation, a rare find, a place you never want to leave.
This was without a doubt my favourite place I’ve ever stayed! The staff were so attentive and helpful, the property was beautiful, the food was delicious, the private beach was stunning. We were so sad to leave and must return!
Nothing
The most extraordinary location. The beach was sublime. The house was beyond our wildest imagination. So stylish in a simple way yet so beautiful.
Nothing
Yes, the design is good but that’s all there is to it.
Expensive for what it is - they don’t even have tea or coffee in the rooms which is basic.
Everything amazing !!!
I almost don't want to share my review of The Last House because I want it to be my own little secret paradise! But of course, its fair to share. This is one of the most incredible hotels I've ever stayed in, and I've stayed in some pretty cool places. Of course the Geoffrey Bawa factor is cool, but the fact that the house manages to strike that perfect balance between luxury, yet so accessibly and comfortable. Nothing felt contrived or overdone, the house fit the surroundings perfectly, yet you felt like you were living in luxury. The incredibly beautiful and completely deserted beach is steps, STEPS, from the hotel. Every day we were there it was less than 5 people on the whole beach. Some of the best meals we had on our whole trip was at the Last House, the breakfast especially is incredible. And the service was impeccable. Nothing was too much, and they were super flexible with us on check in and check out time. Despite the fact that this place is a 12 hour flight from my home, I have no doubt in my mind that I will be back to this hotel. 11/10!
Absolutely nothing
Beautiful villa that has a very private feel to it. All the staff were lovely, food was delicious and the view from my balcony was just perfect. I would certainly come again.

Beautiful premises, amazing location and food.
Amazing stay at the Last House, designed by Geoffrey Bawa. Staff spoiled us with impeccable and warm service. The room we stayed in was so relaxing, with beautiful furniture! The breakfast is amazingly diverse, tasty, and generous. We had dinner there every night and the food was tasty and always using top-notch ingredients. The beach is clean, calm, and relaxing!
Nothing not to like :)
Lovely design - laid back relaxed vibe - no fuss - great location -staff very helpful - we really liked it - and want to come back
I loved it all - I am struggling to find anything I didn’t like - the only thing not quite perfect for me was the pool - - I love swimming but some days the sea was too rough for me to swim -and the pool a bit too short for swimming lengths - this won’t bother most people and wouldn’t stop me coming back again !
Very beautiful unique Geoffrey Bawa house. Very intimate and exclusive feel. Great beachz
A little too quiet only 5 rooms
Everything about this property is ideal and even better it has the magic hand of Geoffrey Bawa as the architect 👌if I could imagine being in Heaven this is the place with the best beach in the world .
This was the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka - beautiful property, quiet, stunning beech right off the garden, lovely pool, nature, great food and attentive staff. A little pricey - but worth it. Only 4 bedrooms so even when fully booked it would feel peaceful and relaxing. If we ever return to Sri Lanka we will be coming back!
A charming and delightful colonial-style designer property with many original building elements in an idyllic and isolated beach location - romantic in nature. Delicious although pricey food - both breakfast and dinner were outstanding...
The wifi was as temperamental as the weather, unfortunately, not being helped by a power cut in the middle of the night that went on for several hours knocking out fan and aircon... The beauty and formidable design of our non-ocean facing room was somewhat impaired by rather tired looking blackout roller blinds - an easy but we thought worthwhile fix...
Super Property at Great Location!
The Last House is on the most beautiful and quiet beach. The property itself has breathtaking architecture. We will definitely be visiting again!
Location; staff
This property was tranquil, impeccably designed by Bawa and staffed by a wonderful crew. A few steps from a untouched beach with swimmable areas, a gorgeous pool, beautiful food and drinks, a sprawling balcony for relaxing and unwinding, a very needed Ayurvedic massage listening to the ocean, and easy transport by tuk to areas like Hiriketiya. I will daydream about this perfect yellow house for a long time to come - until we visit again.
A serene location with direct beach access. Beautiful rooms with a sustainable focus. The good prepared and served on site is incredible - if you don’t want to leave the site, you will be very well taken care of. The staff are so kind and helpful.
Breakfast was plentiful & delicious with options of a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast or a more international. both were lovely
Meals were a little bit pricey for Sri Lanka and the portions could have been a bit bigger but it was fresh and delicious all the same.
Everything is perfect! Amazing place - beautiful architecture and interior with private beach, enjoy the ocean breeze and listening the sounds of waves to go asleep, especially if you live Bawa’s design. Staff are very very helpful and friendly - not 24 hrs service (which is understandable) but definitely will accommodate most of your needs. All facilities are clean and well maintained.
Too many flies at the common area
Can’t begin to describe how amazing this place was. From the staff, to the most amazing room we could have ever wished for, to the absolutely breathtaking (and empty) beach, to the beauty of the hotel itself. We are so grateful we were able to stay here for couple days! Thanks to the team for their amazing hospitality also! Definitely a highlight of our trip.
Nothing
We loved everything about The Last House. The food was the best we had on our entire trip and the menu had lots of seafood and salads. The design of the place was incredible (as we’d come to expect from Bawa) and everything looked very high and and was immaculately taken care of. We were catered to as if we were their only guests (we were not!). The staff even set up a romantic dinner for us on the beach. The location is great as it’s quiet but not remote or too far off. With that said, we ate outside of The Last House only once during our 4 day stay as the food was just so incredible.
Our only regret was that we didn’t stay longer. We even tried to rearrange our next stop so we could extend our stay but unfortunately the next hotel wouldn’t let us.
If you like it quiet, this is a good place. Small, quiet and quite private.
There was no real seating in our room, just a large vintage daybed, which wasn't comfortable for sitting
The most secluded hotel I've ever stayed in without even a signpost, and that enhances the distinct private magic, with its five mysterious rooms combing comfort and nature so that every vista is uplifting. I loved the birds bobbing their fine long tails outside my open shutters, the monitor lizard flashing its tongue, the verdigris gate out to our private empty beach of white sand. Sublime food, especially the dinner on the beach surrounded by flaming torches.
Incredible place to stay, remote in a good way, beautiful beach. Would definitely stay again
The only small comment is that even after an explanation by the staff operating the indoor shower was challenging, but there was an outdoor shower
A highlight of our honeymoon. The Last House is a real hidden gem on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Tim and his team were so welcoming and friendly, every detail was thought of to make our time there feel as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. The building was fantastic, surrounded by wild flowers and perfectly framed views at each turn. The location was idyllic - strolling along the pristine beach or watching monkeys play in the garden. Candlelit dinner on the beach was absolutely brilliant. Hopefully we will be back for our golden wedding anniversary…
Everything was excellent! The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The common areas were beautifully decorated and plenty of room to relax. We loved the outdoor showers and the bathroom was large, with an open shower. There was a private patio area opening to the green space between the property and the beach which was nice. The room was in the ground level but the breeze was slight. There is A/C which was a necessity! The food was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka! The menu was extensive and delicious. The staff was superb, catering to every need we had including arranging driver to Ella. The location was amazing, just steps away from the Mawella Beach which was deserted and quiet. Thank you for the beautiful stay!
Nothing!
Very secluded - quiet and calm with amazing service! Beautiful architecture. Lovely beach on your doorstep.

Beautiful house and rooms with lovely curated art and objects. Sensational food by on-site chef
Nothing
Amazing house, very charming. Everything has a spot to be. Staff was kind and breakfast was really good. Because of the weather we had to leave the hotel super fast because all the roads were closed and we took the key with us without noticing. They contact us and they pick up the key.
There was a storm in that day/night. Unfortunately our room was full of water. The sheets were humid. We woke up at 4am because of the lightnings and when we turn on the light we couldn’t believe. All the floor was water. Lucky us, we only had shoes on the floor. Also, after 5min the light was gone. In the morning we talked with the staff that said to us that it is normal on storming days/nights. And they didn’t try to apologies. It was kind of weird. At the end, when we were living, one of the staff members ask for us to pay a beer that he forgot to charge us. Well… after a night like this, is a beer important?
We have stayed in many beautiful hotels around the world, but I think “the last house”, is probably my favourite of all time. Firstly, the property is incredibly beautiful. The gardens are well manicured, and the house is in wonderful condition. You fee as though you are lucky enough to be staying in someone’s beautiful home, instead of a hotel. The manager and staff were so lovely, and we really enjoyed our chats with them. Breakfast was lovely, as was dinner. The beach front location is perfection, as is the beautiful pool. We stayed in the cinnamon hill suite, which has the large bedroom, bathroom and the ocean views from the balcony, which i’d highly recommend booking. We will definitely be returning on our next holiday in Sri Lanka.
Nothing - we loved it all
We couldn't fault this property as we had a balcony view of the ocean. The food wad exceptional and the staff were amazing.
special place, we had the most amazing stay in this little oasis i can't describe it in words but it's amazing
nothing bad here
No words can describe the beauty of this place. Everything was perfect, the facilities the beach the staff. One of the most incredible places I have ever been to.
A perfect place to fly and flop. The staff were very attentive without interfering.. and the food was excellent...and the position could not be bettered....
No thinking to dislike!
Beautiful property in front of a silent beach. Amazing food. Helpful staff
