This place was a hidden gem. We loved the experience. The room was large, the bed was great and had a view over Dunedin. The bathroom floor was heated. The staff went out of their way to help us, they were all lovely. Having dinner in the castle was a great thing as it is a long and windy drive to anywhere else. And breakfast included was a bonus.
The food was tasty but did not arrive hot, so this was a bit disapointing
OUR BEST STAY IN 25 DAYS ALL OVER NEW ZEALAND
everything was perfect
Such a gorgeous cosy room in the stables! We loved our time there and would have loved to stay for longer. The grounds are so beautiful and the free entry to the castle is also another added bonus. The breakfast is also fantastic! I would absolutely come back again. The staff were also the nicest people!
Nothing not to like! It went above and beyond.
We loved the experience of revisiting the castle again after 14 years. We stayed in a beautiful warm and cosy room in the Lodge that had wonderful views from our balcony. Breakfast was delicious and the dinner in the Castle completed a great two days. Staff were all friendly and very accommodating. Very highly recommended!
Nothing!
The castle is amazing. The grounds are stunning. Staying at the castle allows you to walk around the gardens at night and really enjoy the whole experience. Dinner in the castle was wonderful, good food and great setting. Staff did a great job.
The bed needs replacing, frame and mattress. Window latches make it impossible to leave windows open but also close blinds for the night.
Great location - the birds outside on the balcony , the beautiful grounds , the view of the bay and the sea —- stunning ! We had dinner at the castle which was very good. It was fun meeting the other guests at dinner and then breakfast the next morning. The gift shop has very nice selection. The staff is attentive and welcoming
Nothing
Historical documentation, breakfast included, very comfy bed & fabulous shower (water pressure was 10/10!). Oh & Brendon was fantastic! All the staff were great but Brendon is an absolute MVP to your team!
That we didnt spend longer at Larnarch! 😥 Wish we'd arrived earlier!
Great property great meal

お部屋が広かった。ロケーションも最高、食事も美味しかった。
Friendly staff, beautiful view, delicious meal.
No improvements as it was excellent
Amazing staff Brendan gave the warmest welcome
Tutto assolutamente fantastico. Lo staff era gentilissimo
The breakfast and garden
Fabulous dinner

Everything about this property is wonderful. The atmosphere and detail was amazing. The views and dinner in the castle a highlight
Nothing
We had a terrace access and the view was amazing. Despite the cold weather outside it was warm in the room and the heater temperature could be regulated
The mattresses weren’t very comfortable
The breakfast was awesome! The stables accomodation was a little dated for the price but still a novelty to stay at the castle
Me and my wife enjoyed our stay
Great customer service made us feel welcome 🙏
A definable must. We had the most memorable experience and the breakfast in the morning was incredible.
Nothing.
We (me and my dear mother) stayed in the stables located right next to the historic and iconic Larnach castle, this is in an amazing location. Larnach castle and awesome and the views of the Otago peninsula are great. This place comes with a lot of history and I was fascinated to learnt that my mother is related to the third wife of William Larnach. The history that comes with this place, Larnach castle, is just awesome.
Shared bathrooms that could do with some rennovation. Old beds and bedroom furniture. I am sure the temperature is just fine in summer but we were there in winter. The rooms were cold and could do with a heat pump in them.
We had a wonderful stay, super friendly check in, room was lovely with exceptional views from the verandah, the gardens and castle were beautiful and we enjoyed a tasty included breakfast. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay there again.
Loved everything about our stay.
Everything! So wonderful to learn about the history and every staff member knew so much
Such a beautiful room with amazing views!
Loved everything. The views, the room, the staff, the breakfast, the castle.
Every things was good, location was very great moreover staff of castle and breakfast was really really good and .Only little problem i was face in lodge room was little smelly please leave some fragrance before the guest arrived in room. Rest of the things are really good and heart touching, i love to visit again❤️.
Room was smelly
Extremely interesting and beautiful. We loved the accommodation and we loved the castle

Its history and also its decor. The dinner in the house was amazing and they catered well for the children I took.
Nothing to dislike.
Quirky accommodation
Very noisy when other guests arrived late.
Great experience. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful. Lovely breakfast is provided. Would definitely stay at again.
This was such a good experience! Lovely view, comfortable room, all round fabulous. Dinner in the castle was such a great experience!!
Honestly nothing
Nice quiet location
Not being able to stand upright in our room was a bit of a problem considering the room was tiny.
Location
Small rooms with little standing room
The view from our balcony was magnificent and spectacular. We watch both sunrise and sunsets. You can see the majority of Otago Harbour. The castle was amazing and definitely worth revisiting. The Dinner in the castle’s official dining room was a great experience and worth every cent. Breakfast was complimentary and quite delicious. Roaming the grounds at night with all the lighting was excellent. Worth every cent.
If you are scared of heights, then the drive up may traumatise you. Recommend you take the Castlewood Road with is on the right on the road to Portabello. Much shorter than the other two roads and much less scary.
Dinner was nice but dimly lit room so it wasnt easy to read the menu unless held under a candle and difficult to actually view the food on the plate. Understand the wanting to create an ambience of times gone by but needed more light in room when dining. Breakfast was excellent and great service.
The access from the Lodge to the castle dining room wasnt the best on a wet winter night. Access was through the back of property, slippery cobbles, puddles and inadequate lighting. Also having to go up the steps to the front of the castle could pose a difficult climb for elderly. We were advised to mind where we stepped. Perhaps some under cover walk way or improvement to the pavinhg could be offered. Upon leaving dinner the path lighting could be improved as not terribly well lit on a winter dark night and no umbrellas offered if its raining to walk the driveway back to the lodge accommodation. Car parking at the Lodge was at a minimum - not a lot of room for getting cars in and out if more than 4.
Brendan was excellent, very welcoming. Beautiful view from room 22. The castle dinner was delicious and was a fun experience.
Nothing. Everything was great.
Hats off to Brendon and the staff there. We had the best stay for 3 days. Very accommodating and helpful staff and a fantastic venue. Definitely will be spending more time there over the following years.
The castle is absolutely beautiful, and the accommodation experience was excellent.
Beautiful views out to ocean and the heads. Friendly staff.
The views, rooms, staff and breakfast
Excellent breakfast all staff were professionsl
The staff were very kind when we arrived and helped us understand where we needed to go for breakfast and dinner during our stay. The room was very nice and clean. It was a little warm, but we were comfortable. There was also complementary biscuits and tea/coffee in the room. The castle dinner was very nice, given a delightful four course meal then a small tour of the castle at the end. The breakfast the following morning was also very nice; we were given a menu to choose a meal from and then there was a small buffet as well. The gardens were very nice to walk through in the early morning and the sunrise was absolutely beautiful. Since we were allowed full access to the castle grounds, we ventured our way to the top of the castle and the views were amazing.
We were just a bit disappointed that we couldn't see the sunrise from the top of the castle, but it was beautiful from the garden nonetheless. Everything was amazing!
Everything it’s just beautiful who doesn’t like a castle
Everything the gardens were beautiful the castle was beautiful. The large was beautiful. It was just absolutely beautiful.
Loved our accomodation in the stables and dinner in the castle was exceptional.
Beautiful historic features, grounds stunning, view amazing and welcoming/friendly staff
No room service, rooms tad cramped for 3 people and would prefer hot self service buffet breakfast
Very friendly and helpful staff. Room and shared facilities clean and basics covered. Lovely breakfast inc of buffet continental and cooked options. Bed super comfy. Parking right outside the door. The 4 course dinner at the castle was delicious and definately recommend. Met some interesting people and the flavors were divine. I chose Scallops, Lamb and Pear with gingerbread. Delicious! The castle itself is a wonderful piece of history and a good intro for heading into Dunedin and seeing the historic sites and Settlers Museum
A low ceiling in my room meaning I had to duck to move round the bed. The shower that went cold while I was in it one morning. The stairs in the stables to the rooms are pretty big for hefting heavy bags up.
Brendan checked us in and went above and beyond to make sure we were fed after arriving late and missing the dining experience. The room was large and comfortable with a beautiful view to wake up too.

Included breakfast was delicious. Loved the character-filled stables. Lovely place to stay. Great place to stay especially if you’re wanting to explore the Otago Peninsula or see the castle. Were really helpful with our toddler too.
Nothing - about a 20 min drive to Dunedin city if that matters.
Breakfast was great. Choice of approx 8 options for cooked breakfast plus continental options also. Definitely need a car for this location. Beds super comfy. Lovely room in the lodge, Rose room. Would have been 10 rating except water temp in shower luke warm on full heat.
Quaint and great location
We didn’t realise there were no eateries within proximity open after 7:30 on Friday night. Our only option was room service when we arrived at 8pm. A heads up about that would be good in correspondence sent before arrival.
This stay exceeded our expectations, it was a gem. The staff were amazing and the room was comfortable and good value for money with breakfast included in the price. We would happily stay there again and we look forward to another stay in the future.
Awesome place to stay. The stables is very affordable and excellent value for travelling on a budget

It was a stay we have always wanted to experience. Staff were very good, breakfasts were tasty We had a candlelight dinner with some of the other guests one night, very well prepared and served

就在城堡旁边,早起或者晚上都可以随意逛城堡的外围和花园。城堡里面是需要按照开放时间进入参观的。
早餐等待时间较久。
Magnificent experience. Quiet, great rooms, dinner in the Castle is must.
Being able to stay onsite at the castle was amazing.
It was all great
Fabulous place to stay for a night and really enjoyed the 4 course dinner. Breakfast included was great.
Wonderful unique historic location and buildings. Beautifully restored. Excellent service and superb food (at dinner and in the cafe). Staff friendly and helpful with advice about the castle and the surrounding attractions! Comfy lodge room with a stunning view.
Nothing - just sad we had to leave.
Beautiful views and location. Room was warm and clean and had a great shower. Breakfast was fantastic
Staff workers were excellent. Friendly and helpful.
The fireplace in the café area smelled of woodsmoke very strong smell from the fireplaces. If you are sensitive to smoke smell with allergies, then this is a concern.
Everything was amazing. The dinner excellent. The room was wonderful with amazing views.
Breakfast and staff service, gardens and location superb
Size of beds too small. Comfy for one but not for two. Height of the walls in the room was so low that you would hit your head easily. Showering in a shoebox with no window. Coffee out of a machine didn’t taste good. New Zealand has such good coffee not using the regular standard or option of plunger felt a bit strange given the rest was great.
The most spectacular view from my room window! Underfloor heating in the period perfect bathroom. The rooms decor & furniture true to the style of the Castle. The helpful, informative, friendly staff. The atmospheric ballroom cafe with its lovely selection of food. And, of course, the wonderful garden.
There are tea & coffee facilities in the room but a couple of plates & knives would have been nice for those late night cheese & crackers, lol.
The breakfast was fantastic, and it was included in the room rate which was amazing!
I think you need better definition between the lodge and the stables, the photo's were of the lodge rooms, maybe add saome of the stable rooms so people know what they are booking! But amazing value for money in the stables.
The castle is beautiful, and it feels truly special to have something like this in New Zealand. The room was warm and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the gardens are absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the dinner experience!
A small suggestion would be improving communication on arrival. We came on a rainy day and weren’t offered an umbrella, and since the rooms are outside require a short walk, that would have been helpful. Later I saw other guests with umbrellas, and when I asked for one, I was told there were none available, which felt a bit inconvenient. (It was not umbrella in the bedroom neither). The check-in was quick, but we weren’t given much information about the facilities, such as whether there was a lobby or a cozy space to relax before dinner. There is a beautiful café on site, but it closes at 4:30 pm and we only realised this the next day as we arrived just on the hours to stay. It would be helpful to have clearer communication about available spaces for overnight guests to enjoy in the afternoon or evening.
Fabulous location on the Otago peninsular. Great views of the castle and surrounds. Confortable beds. Really enjoyed the dinner in the castle and breakfast in the stables.
