Netter Host, ruhige Lage im grünen Garten, trotz erstem Schreck, wenn man von der Main Street kommt.

I had one of my best stays in Sri Lanka at Secret House Guest House in Dickwella. After traveling for over 3 weeks, this was honestly a standout experience. The family running the guest house is incredible—so warm, kind, and genuinely caring. They go out of their way to make you feel at home, and it really shows in every detail. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful, with well-designed rooms and AC and hot water that actually works properly. Everything was clean, comfortable, and just easy—one of the few places where everything works exactly as it should. They even helped me with my laundry and managed to remove stains from my shirt, which I really appreciated. And a special mention to Ayu the dog, who is absolutely adorable and adds to the whole charm of the place. Overall, this was easily one of my favorite stays in Sri Lanka, and I would recommend it to anyone going to the south coast. I’ll definitely be back

Die Location ist perfekt gelegen. Man hat abends seine Ruhe und ist tagsüber sehr schnell an den schönsten Stränden und besten Hotels der Gegend. Der Host Amila ist extrem hilfsbereit. Wir hatten 2 Nächte gebucht und sind am Ende 6 Nächte geblieben. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Ubytování a hostitel naprosto skvělý. Během týdne proběhla i výměna ložního prádla a úklid pokoje. Hostitel nabízí vyprání prádla (to seženete i levněji, ale je pohodlné nikam s prádlem nechodit a večer máte vypráno), půjčování skutru, super snídaně.

Jen je škoda, že na pláž musíte přes rušnou část města, do ubytování ale hluk z ulice slyšet nejde.

Rent, bekvämt och fräsht! Väldigt trevlig och hjälpsam ägare! Vi fick lämna kvar våra grejer efter utcheck och fick låna ett ledigt rum och duscha av oss när vi kom tillbaka och skulle vidare (:

Läget var inte super dessvärre. En bit till stranden där man kunde bada och man fick gå längst med en stor trafikerad väg. Men det är det enda negativa!

Very friendly hosts who where always available and helpful. Peaceful place, feels like you’re home! Close to beautiful Dickwella beach, Turtle point and Hiriketiya.

Everything was so great there ! We kept extending again and again and would have stayed there longer if we could. 😁 The breakfast is really good, and Amila and his family are so attentive and helpful. The location is good and very quiet. You can rent a scooter directly to the owner, everything is made for you to feel home. Thanks again for those great time spend there.

Największą zaletą obiektu jest właściciel - Amila. Bardzo zaradny i pomocny. Sam wszystko ogarnia - od organizacji transportu do swojego obiektu, poprzez gotowanie, pranie, sprzatanie i opiekę nad gośćmi. Miejsce jest nowe, czyste, bardzo fajnie zaprojektowane. Są wszystkie niezbędne przy pobycie udogodnienia oraz ciepła woda i pyszne śniadania z dolewką kawy na życzenie ;). Jeżeli czegokolwiek potrzebujesz to Amila to załatwi - jak jesteś chory to dostaniesz leki, jak chcesz konkretne owoce to je kupi, jak chcesz na impreze - to cię na nią zabierze.

Der Gastgeber ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir konnten bei ihm auch Roller leihen. Er stand uns mit Antworten zur Seite auf Fragen, die wir hatten. Die Sauberkeit war super und ein schönes Bad. Die Lage ist mitten in der Stadt, aber dennoch in einem ruhigen Hinterhof und schön grün. Man ist schnell an allen wichtigen Orten und es ist gut angebunden.

- ein Fön und etwas mehr Wasserdruck in der Dusche wären prima. Aber kein Problem.

Great location, pristine room, really friendly family they truly went above and beyond for us. Couldn't have asked for more! 5 mins in Tuk Tuk to Hiriketiya Beach or 2 mins walk to Dikwella beach.

Bellissima struttura immersa in un giardino, tutto molto curato e pulito. Amila ci ha accolti con tanta gentilezza e simpatia, ci ha preparato ottime colazioni ed è sempre stato disponibile per ogni esigenza nostra e della nostra bambina. Le camere sono molto belle, essenziali e pulite. Consigliatissimo!

The room was great, and the host couldn’t have been more accommodating. He even bought a cake to help celebrate my birthday at breakfast time! The property is in a great location for visiting local hotspots and we would 100% stay here again.

Wat een heerlijk verblijf hebben wij hier gehad gedurende vier nachten. Het hotel is schoon, ruime kamers en centraal gelegen in het drukke Dickwella. Van die drukte merk je overigens niets zodra je de tuin van het hotel betreedt. De owner is echt super aardig en meedenkend. Hij stond elke dag vroeg voor ons op om vers ontbijt te maken, aangezien wij surfles hadden in Hirikitya. Zelfs toen mijn vriendin heel erg verbrandde benen had van het surfen, had hij icepacks geregeld om te koelen. Wij zouden zeker teruggaan bij een bezoek aan deze plaats.

Amila a su nous accueillir très chaleureusement chez lui. Il nous a recommandé tous les lieux à visiter à côté du logement. Il a pu nous proposer instantanément un service de machine à laver et de location de scooter qui était en parfait état. Grâce à ces bons conseils et ses contacts, il a pu nous faire bénéficier d’un restaurant qui était complètement pleins le soir même où nous souhaitions y aller. Amila et ses parents on su être à l’écoute et nous donner les meilleurs conseils. Je vous recommande vivement et sans aucun doute de réserver ce lieu pour vos prochains séjours. La chambre était très joliement décorée, très propre. Le petit déjeuner était très bon et surtout le café était bon (ce qui est rare au Sri Lanka). Ayu (le chien d’Amila) est adorable (pas du tout dérangeant) et nous a accueilli tous les jours à notre retour au logement. Merci encore pour ce séjour. 🙂🙂

Honnêtement c’est une adresse que l’on garde et on reviendra volontiers ! Tout était parfait ! La chambre est spacieuse, le lit est confortable, l’eau est chaude et il y a un bon débit ! La maison est aérée, joliment décoré ! C’est la salle de bain la plus propre que l’on ait eue ! Mais ce que nous retiendrons c’est l’hospitalité de ce monsieur !!! Il nous a touché ! Franchement allez y, vous serez à 15 minutes à pied des plages et c’est pas plus mal car vers les plages, il y a énormément de bruit, de Tuktuk, de touristes et de gros hôtels bondés ! La c’est authentique et en retrait de la ville ! Au calme, le jardin est mignon!!! Mon seul regret est d’y être passée en coup de vent! Si on pouvait mettre 20 sur 10, nous le ferions ! Merci ☺️ 🙏

Everything was great.

Very friendly owner and comfortable room. A little issue with one of the dogs, but the owner tied to him up after that. Appreciated the coffee and ride to the station. Not much for tourists in this part of Dickwella, unfortunately, but walking/tuktuk to other areas is easy enough.

We had a great time at Secret House, and I can’t speak highly enough of the place and the host. The location is central but quiet. It has a front garden with monkeys visiting and two dogs keeping an eye. Both are well trained and friendly. The room is super clean, bathroom in perfect condition, really comfy bed and pillows. Breakfast is also available, and it’s not to be missed! Amila prepared it exactly our favorite way. He was kind enough to offer the kitchen for use, so we could make ourselves some tea or cut fruits. The kitchen is spotless, just like every corner of the place. The property is just a few minutes away from the beach, especially if you take the shortcut from the main road. On the main road, there’s a supermarket, a few pharmacies and a fruit stall in a distance.

Secret House in Dickwella was a highlight. The house is fantastic. Super clean and so well looked after. The air conditioned room was spacious and the bathroom was modern and fully functional with a great hot water shower. Amila, the owner was just amazing. So committed to his guests and his mother and father were a delight. Breakfasts were fantastic as were the dinners. Dickwella is a working town so great to explore but the beach area is amazing and just a short walk from the guesthouse. Amila will help with anything and is a superb host. Really pleased we stayed here. Thank you so much. We will not forget.

Amila (the host) tried to kiss my fiancé and made inappropriate unsolicited remarks to her on two separate occasions. Female travellers should be careful. He tried to apologise after but there is no excuse for this unprofessional behaviour.

日本語も英語も話せるオーナー I had an incredible stay at this minimalist and modern accommodation. The room was new, clean, and beautifully designed. The lush garden featured a charming hammock and swing, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The hosts were exceptionally welcoming. We can ask delicious local breakfast based on our preferences, and the owner's coffee was simply outstanding. Essentials like bath towels and toilet paper were provided. The property was a wildlife haven, with two adorable dogs and frequent visits from monkeys, birds, and squirrels. Convenience was key—supermarkets, restaurants, and beaches were all within walking distance. The motorbike rental service significantly expanded my exploration possibilities. His warm family—always smiling and incredibly kind—made the stay truly memorable. His mom even cooked curry for us. It was delicious. An unexpected delight was discovering the owner, Amila, speaks fluent Japanese. He generously shared insights about Sri Lankan culture, making this more than just a accommodation, but a cultural experience. Highly recommended!

what you need to be worried about is only mosquitoes. But it’s the same every where in SriLanka !

The house is beautiful and everything is super new and clean!

The place is nice and quiet, although it is located in the middle of the city. It is a bit hidden, but with the pictures sent to us after the booking, we could easily find the place. The beds were comfy, the shower was warm and the breakfast was tasty. Also we could rent a scooter with the host which made our days very nice!

Really enjoyed our stay at Secret House. The location was perfect, rooms were tidy and the host Amila was extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back, highly recommend this place.

Located at the very busy main street we were surprised to find such an oasis just a few meters behind busy traffic. The secret house is nicely designed and equipped with good furniture and ceramics. Amile, the owner was always welcoming and helpful with everything. Breakfast was good with “real” coffee and we also rented a scooter at the house.

The location is off the beaches, but if you’re into exploring the surrounding by scooter or Tuktuk, that’s no problem. The owner welcomed us with two bottles of water. We were surprised to find them charged in the checkout bill, also the second cups of coffee, which we had for breakfast. Then again he didn’t charge us for the gas of the scooter and gave us some discount on it, because we couldn’t use it the full day because of the weather

I loved this beautiful property that is tucked away from the Main Street but still easily accessible. The rooms have a beautiful minimalist style and are very clean. I loved having breakfast in the garden everyday. Amil is a wonderful host and even cooked a Sri Lankan dinner for us one day since we made a special request for this. There is a cute little kitchen as well that guests can use to do some light cooking and make tea and coffee.

Secret House was the perfect place to stay for our first night at Sri Lanka’s coast - and what a welcome it was! We had the very best time and the service was impeccable. Our host went above and beyond to help us get settled and find anything we needed (bike, tuk tuk, recommendations). Really one of my favourite places we stayed during our trip in Sri Lanka. House is beautiful, room was so lovely and clean and comfortable. House is off the main road and is so quiet you wouldn’t believe you’re in the center of Dikwella. Loved the property so much wish we had stayed for longer. Excellent value for money highly recommend :)

Nothing - everything was perfect!

A big room with enough space and a good bathroom. No mosquito problems. The owner was very friendly and helpful providing tips for restaurants, yoga classes and Yala safari. Extended my stay from 2 to 5 nights as I liked the accommodation and location so much. It's centrally located in Dickwella which has a nice beach but still away from the noise. Outside area with shadow is great to chill when it's too hot outside. He even made me an espresso in the morning so I didn't need to go to the beach to grab one for my breakfast.

Amila’s house is a beautiful, calming and tranquil home, conveniently located close to shops, beaches and a big temple. The family are lovely and very welcoming, they make you feel at home and give you plenty of privacy if you need and help arranging anything you need. Amila is a great host and he had two dogs who great you everyone you come home. Also fun watching the monkeys play in the trees in the morning whilst you have breakfast. The room is big and has good sound proofing and the bed is huge and comfortable, the shower is also very spacious. We rented a bike from Amila also so made it easy to get around to all the beaches in the local area.

We had a great stay at secret House, so much so that we even extended our stay. Our host was very accommodating and flexible. We can wholeheartedly recommend the stay. The room was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. The accommodation has a large garden where you can relax in the hammock, for example. But the best thing was the warmth and friendliness of our host and his family. You immediately felt welcome and at ease. Many thanks for the wonderful days! We would definitely like to come back.

We absolutely loved our stay at secret house! Amila and his family are super lovely, the house is very nice + beautiful garden. Everything was really clean and you can also use the kitchen. Overall, great value for money! Amila helped us out with organizing tuktuks and even picked us up himself one time when we struggled to get one! Room design is nice but a little small, go for the larger rooms they looked lovely. Host is extremely happy and friendly and seems to get along well with all guests!

The location was not ideal for our needs, it’s near the beach but quite a remote part of the beach not near the cafes and things, it is right in the middle of a busy and industrial part of the town. Might be ideal for some and a little whiny on our part but we didn’t sleep well here - for us the noise was hard to manage, there is every sound of animal including their on site dog who barks a lot.

Warm and nice welcome by Amila and his parents. This accommodation is somewhat hidden behind a busy street. Once you find it, your search will be completely worth it. A beautiful house in a relaxing and well-maintained garden. The interior is incredibly stylish with beautiful and classic elements. I am truly in love with the windows! The room is spacious, the bed is comfortable and the shower is wonderful. When I entered the room it was clean and smelled wonderful. It was so pleasant that I decided to stay an extra night

Amazing place. A bit tricky to find (see photo of gate you need to go through). Such lovely hospitality, the room was perfect (comfy bed, hot water, Aircon) and great for organising onward travel. Very accommodating host. Really went out of his way. Highly recommend!

Our experience here was perfect. The house and the room was really nice and super clean. The host (and his family) is very warmhearted, friendly and polite - you feel super welcome and in good hands. The optional breakfast is homemade, very delicious and comes in super good portions. The chilled beach of dikwella is just a few minutes by foot and there are a lot of options for groceries and dinner. Even though the location is quite central, it is super quiet because the house itself is located behind the front row away from the busy main street. Its even possible to use the fridge and the kitchen at Secret House, which is especially very nice if you stay longer.

Everything with our stay was absolutely top notch. Rooms and facilities are really good. The location is perfect, 5 minutes drive from Hurikatiya Beach with the scooter. Amila made arrangements for us for transportation and scooters. Would definitely go back.

Very chill house surrounded by beautiful greenery with super friendly host. One feels home immediately! Good breakfast - continental and Sri Lankan with lovely tea or coffee. Rented scooters as well and host was always accomodating. 15-20 min walk from Hirekitiya beach or a 5 min Tuktuk ride!

Not much to say. At night when its raining it can be easy to miss the property as it is a narrow driveway with no sign on the road.

Very nice accommodation! The room is very comfy, and the owner Amila really goes out of his way to make your stay perfect. I had a really nice breakfast and dinner there, and when I left Amila traveled with me to show me the right bus to take, and helped me with groceries and getting a tuktuk. I can definitely recommend staying!

This was the best hotel where we stayed in Sri Lanka. I felt like I was at home there. The owner is a super friendly person and his family as well! It was sad to leave this place. His garden is just like one big zoo! We saw there monkeys, chameleon, turtle and much more animals! We could just sit there and watch what is happening in his garden all day ☺️ The place was super clean and comfortable. The family shared a lot of knowledge about Sri Lanka and animals with us. When we arrived the owner welcomed us with an amazing tea and let us watch him when he prepared us breakfast so now I can try to make roti in Poland! Thank you one more time for you kindness 🤗🤗

Literally nothing!

We had an amazing time at secret house. It is in the city centre, but because of the big garden you have no idea you are so close to the traffic. The owner is very nice and helps you with everything. The rooms look new and he is improving them every day. We could also hire his scooter for a reasonable price. We wanted to stay 2 nights, ended up staying 4 nights. Loved it! 10 min walk to the beach of dikwella. 20 minutes walk to beach of hiri.

We would recommend the room with air-conditioning

This was our first time vacationing on the island of Sri Lanka. I can confidently say that the time we spent in this house left the best impressions. We initially booked this house for a few nights but then extended our stay. The house has its own large area by Sri Lankan standards, beautiful garden with bananas, mangoes and other trees. It is away from the busy road which is a huge positive. You can relax and enjoy nature. Dikwella beach with a very gentle entrance and no big waves is about 10 minutes walk. The house is very clean and cozy. High ceilings, wooden furniture, a lot of small details pleasant to the eye. The room has good furniture and plumbing, there is air conditioning and no problems with hot water and sewage. The host carefully monitors the order in the house. Amila is always ready to give you any help, solve problems, always with a smile and good mood. We learned from him a lot of new and interesting things about the customs in Sri Lanka, the way of life of the islanders, traditions in the family. He never refused us in communication. We additionally bought breakfasts and dinner. They were very tasty and varied. This is real home food, not like in hotels. Amila also has wonderful parents. Evenings spent with this family will always remain in our memory. We would like to say thank you very much for your hospitality and we are sure that we will definitely come back here again.

the accommodation had a beautiful and peaceful garden where you can relax. the host was so kind, fixed a cap for us, makes breakfast for my birthday and invited us for a family diner. the room was clean, de a/c was good and the shower was also nice.

for us the location wasn’t perfect because we liked the part in hirikitya more and that was a 20/25 minute walk.

Very beautiful property. The rooms have a nice finish and the common areas and surrounding lawn are great places to relax. Checks off all the boxes of a nice room: good linens, clean towels, bedside outlets. The host family are very helpful and provided spot on recommendations.

We enjoyed our stay in the Secret House. The house is new with a great design, spacious, clean and comfortable. The location is great: it is close to everything: beach, shops, bus station, but still quiet and relaxing, as it is a little bit hidden from the street.  Our host Amila and his family were so nice, welcoming and helpful that it was so easy to find everything we needed, and we felt like we were at home. There is a nice, well-equipped kitchen you can freely use and there are plenty of places to eat that Amila can advise you. You can also order breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was absolutely delicious and for a good price.  They can also serve an amazing tea with a special fruit that grows in their garden (lemon family, but not the lemon and not the lime, very tasty). WiFi worked great, water pressure was also great, everything worked properly. There is a water filter in the kitchen. During our stay we saw beautiful birds we hadn't seen in other places, funny monkeys playing in hammocks and swings and a turtle!  We definitely recommend this place. During our stay in Sri Lanka it was the best!

Superb location very close to beaches. Helpful and welcoming host.

It is a little tucked away and hard to find. Not everyone had heard of Secret House but knew it as Amila’s place. Might be worth a small sign at the end of the lane that leads to the property.

Secret House is a very modern and design hotel in Dickwella. The rooms are confortable, spacious and modern. Very well located near the Dickwella Beach and 15min walking to Hiriketiya beach. Amila and his family are super friendly and nice. He will do everything to make you feel confortable and help you for anything. We booked 2 nights, but we finally stayed 4 nights because we loved the place. Thank you for everything Amila! We will definitely come back.
