There was really nothing, other than perhaps an outside light for people returning in the dark and having to unlock the door.

I loved the extra mink blankets - the shower had amazing shower pressure & lovely art work by the owner painted by the owner on the bedroom wall - I really loved the theme of calling it fantail cottage & the renovation book they shared documenting the total overhaul of restoring the cottage it was a very lovely touch & im a hottie girl it was so delightful to see the small detail of a hotwater bottle under the sink :)))) love love love

We met Gary on arrival and he gave us all the information we needed and a perfect recommendation for dinner. The property has everything you could need for a long or short stay. One regret is that we only booked one night. The bed is so comfy, didn’t want to leave.

Reviewed Dec 6, 2025The Fantail Cottage is quiet, spacious, and nicely decorated (even better that the pictures). We didn't cook, but the kitchen is well equipped. The washer and dryer are a real bonus. Also, the parking. Checking in was very easy. We came in late, but just before leaving we met Gary with whom we had a very nice chat. He also provided us valuable information for the next leg of our trip. Thank you! It's a place worth staying longer.

Reviewed Dec 2, 2025Made our own breakfast. Beautifully decorated cottage, so special to spend 2 nights there. The owners left a photo book of how the cottage has been restored. A washing machine and drier and there was an area outside where I dried the washing on a clothes airer.
No facecloths, so went and bought some for our use. Mentioned this to owner.

Responsive host who also supplied list of things to do and places to eat. About 15 min walk into town. Very interesting Victorian precinct in town and can recommend the pizzas at Scotts Brewing Co.
The kitchen area could have been cleaner.

Reviewed Jul 31, 2025We felt very much embraced by the little cottage. If we had stayed longer, would have used the reading room, too. The shower is wonderful. The outlook is very good. Easy to go out to look at local sights.
There was nothing we didn't like. Loved it all. I know widow friends who would love it if there were a divan or other bed in the lounge for their travels with their widow or single friends. I'd also love to come back with my adult daughter next time, too, if a pull out bed in lounge were possible. In the meantime, it is wonderfully set up for couples or single traveller's.

Reviewed Mar 23, 2024The location was excellent. A magical accommodation, a dream to stay there, clean and very homely. I would recommend to anyone. Owners have taken great care to restore this cottage into a fantastic guesthouse. Artistically decorated. Everything you need including a washer/dryer. Spacious enough. Large comfortable bed. A beautiful veranda where we ate and relaxed in front of the kitchen part on a cute separated small cottage. View of the sea. 2 minutes walk and you have a great view overlooking Oamaru and wonderful full view of the sea. Good wifi. Room to park the car off street. Very easy check in, easy check out. Good, easy and nice communication and nice flexibility from the owner. An amazing experience, an awesome place. Oamaru is a very nice place with several things to do and visit.
