Reviewed Aug 27, 2026The accommodation was absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean, and the host was incredibly kind and welcoming. What made our stay truly special was the view from the window: we could watch the adorable little calves playing and being mischievous all day long. I loved it! We were even allowed to go in and meet them, and I got to pet some of the calves that were only a few days old. Such a wonderful experience! The host and their colleague were also fantastic company, and we really appreciated how warmly and naturally they chatted with us. We had a wonderful stay and would happily come back!

Reviewed Apr 21, 2026Sehr schöne Lage am Land, direkt neben den weidenden Kühen. Wir waren hier 2 Nächte. Die Gastgeber haben uns mit Obst und Keksen sehr freundlich begrüßt und sind uns auch mit Reisetpps hilfreich zur Seite gestanden. Das Cottage war sehr sauber und gut ausgestattet. Das Frühstück war bereits am 1. Tag im Zimmer. Gute Ausflugsmöglichkeiten von diesem Ort. Wir würden dort wieder übernachten!

Our cottage was really comfortable and had everything we could want to make a perfect stay. Breakfast was provided in our room for us to take at our leisure with a good choice of food.

Reviewed Jan 12, 2026We had an incredible stay at Mohaonui Farmstay. What a beautiful, peaceful place, we didn’t want to leave! The cottage was very comfortable and the food left for breakfast, including fresh fruit and tomatoes, was very thoughtful. It was lovely waking up to views of the rolling hills and cows in the pasture. Noel was such a delight to talk to and Snowdog the cat was very sweet. Would highly recommend!

The bathroom is a little on the smaller side, but everything was well-kept, clean and functional.

Reviewed Sep 5, 2025We LOVED staying at the Mohaonui Farmstay. It was very close to Otorohanga and the Waitomo Caves, so picking up supplies was no issue. But it did not feel close to anything. It felt like its own world straight from the fantasy books. Gorgeous open fields with nothing but the nearby cows to wake you up in the morning. The place was super cozy and warm. It was very clean. The owners were so kind and took the time to meet up to show us where everything was. When we were running a little late, they actually took the time to message us to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!

Reviewed Nov 13, 2024It is a farm stay, so very quiet which we liked very much. Hardly any traffic after sunset (the property is about 6km from the town). We woke up to the sound of birds greeting the new day (which is early and therefore, maybe, not to everyone’s liking). The owners are exceptional people; they welcomed us warmly and treated us like family. Even got a tour of the farm and were able to meet their cows. Maybe we were lucky, but both the sunsets and sunrises were spectacular.

Reviewed Jul 10, 2024We had an amazing stay at this farmhouse guesthouse! Thanks to the farmer host and his wife for patiently showing us around the room and recommending a great place for dinner. We really appreciated the farmer host taking us on a tractor tour of his farm, showing us how it operates and how they milk the cows. It was a unique experience, and we learned so much. The farm is beautiful. The bed in the guesthouse was very soft, and the room was exceptionally clean. The view from the room was fantastic, especially the stunning sunrise. The host's pet dog, Rose, was adorable, and I especially liked her, as well as their cat, which I also really liked! This is an amazing place! We had a very comfortable night."

Reviewed May 12, 2024From the moment we arrived, they were VERY welcoming. The room was absolutely perfect. They were both so friendly. We chatted for a bit and got recommendations for a sightseeing flight tour(we ultimately ended up booking). They also offered for us to use the laundry room and gave us a tour of the farm. If we ever come back to NZ, we will definitely stay here again. It was perfect in every way!

Resident cat was the highlight! Complimentary breakfast was a nice touch. Very lovely to watch the sunrise and sunset from our cottage. Would recommend to anyone wishing to stay in area.

A hotplate of some kind would have been great to do some simple cooking. We did end up having to eat out rather than cook meals.

Difficult to suggest improvement but we found dealing with 2 full size suitcases a bit awkward as this is quite a compact environment.
