Plantation Surf Inn & Restaurant - Midigama

We originally booked for a few days and ended up staying the whole month of our stay here. We had an amazing time, Chatu will go all the way to make your feel like home, you feel so welcomed. Location is 10/10 specially if you have a scooter, more than 10 spots to surf within a 10 minute drive. Can’t recommend it enough, will be back next time we are here.

The best place on the South Coast. Chatthu is an amazing host, so accommodating and hospitable, nothing is a hassle. Our second visit, and we were treated like returning family.

Plantation surf inn was amazing!

nettester Gastgeber ever! Super Essen! Zwei Surfspots fußläufig und optimaler Standort um die Umgebung zu erkunden... Ruhig gelegen und nicht direkt an der Straße. Zugang zum Strand über die Straße und dann schwimmen mit Schildkröten einfach unglaublich.

Der Aufenthalt war zu kurz

A perfect stay in the best location ! Room was spacious, clean and generally very nice and well kept, everything looked brand new. We also had dinner a few times at their kitchen which was excellent! What made our stay special was the friendly and accommodating staff as well as the owner who was helping out with everything we needed and made as feel like home. We will definitely be back !

Location, garden, and restaurant were all amazing. And above all Chathu and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. We had a great time there.

Would liked a fridge in the room, but for us it was not a deal breaker.

The room was spacious and very clean. The location is perfect - to get to the beach, you only need to cross the street. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, they assisted with organizing transport, tuk-tuks, surf lessons at a great surf school, and much more. The restaurant also serves delicious food with generous portions. I highly recommend this place!

Nothing to complain about

We stayed at the Plantation Surf-Inn for a month in January. It was a fantastic experience, we enjoyed it so much! All the staff and Chathu, the owner of the hotel made sure, that we had a wonderful stay by easing us into the culture. 
We are a couple from Switzerland and we traveled to Sri Lanka for the first time. Yes, the culture is very different from what we experience in Europe, but it is different in a very good way and really gives you a fresh perspective on things. We felt welcome as tourists by everyone. I mainly travel for surfing while my partner does not surf. The hotel was perfect for this combination. There are so many surfing options just within walking distance. I could just walk early in the morning to nearby surf spots, while my partner could sleep-in, go for a walk, enjoy the beach or already start enjoying one of the wonderful, always freshly cooked breakfasts. The hotel restaurant has lots of options for vegetarians, food is extremely good in Sri Lanka.
 Later, there were plenty of things to do together: - National parks with truly wild, exotic animals like elephants.
 - Or you can just go for a walk behind the hotel, were you can easily spot quite friendly and very active monkeys, colorful birds like kingfishers, geckos and iguanas, really cool chipmunks that look and act like they are out of a cartoon, large rice fields, jungle, etc. etc. - If you get lucky, you might be able to spot a turtle laying its eggs on a nearby beach. The eggs will be collected by a preservation organization and they release baby turtles into the ocean on many evenings. You can just walk over and enjoy the show.
 - There are many well equipped and affordable Gyms in nearby Welligama.
 - Exploring nearby cities and towns with TukTuk’s and walking.
 - Tea/Cinnamon plantation tours. - Snorkeling with turtles and colorful fish is possible on many beaches. You will see animals everywhere.
 - Eat as many tropical fruits as you can :)

Honestly, there's nothing we didn't like here.

Terrific Three night stay in Plantation Surf Inn. Great location to many great beaches and locations of interest. The restaurant at plantation surf was an excellent place to eat - ate here 2 nights . Highly recommend. Our room was very very spacious, no air conditioning, but a very efficient fan. The bathroom was also very spacious and lots of great water pressure. Our host was very very helpful and knowledgeable to many places to see in the area and wider areas. This is a great surfing spot and other residents rated it highly and some were return guests. Really enjoyed the time here , and overall all the people we met here were great.

Séjour incroyable chez Chathu. Tout le personnel a été aux petits soins et toujours à disposition. Chambre spacieuse et établissement extrêmement propre. Accès quasi direct à la plage. À l’écart du bruit et du centre de Midigama, ce que nous avons extrêmement apprécié. Restaurants aux alentours ou à disposition sur place, station TukTuk à la sortie de la petite rue. Cependant tout peut se faire à pied. Bref, rien à redire. Un excellent hôtel dans lequel vous serez reçus avec respect.

We loved our stay at Plantation Surf Inn - we had a huge room with AC, and terrace area plus views of the ocean. The staff are all super nice and the host Chatthu works really hard to ensure you have everything you need. A lot of surfers stay here, and mainly they are getting up early to catch the sunrise, so it is quiet in the evening. It has quite a community feel too, people chat to each other, a family was playing cards at the communal outside table and it had a nice mellow vibe while we were staying. The food is good too, not the cheapest, but generous portions and tasty!

Shower was barely luke warm...but it was so warm it didn't matter!

Best location near everything

Clean, well taken care off. Very nice garden when you can relax! Owner is very knowledgeable about South coast areas and can recommend some hidden gems to support local establishments.

Ask for the shampoo and body wash separately when checking in.

The location of Plantation is just awesome!!! Five best beaches of Midigama (and I would say south of Sri Lanka in general) is just 3 minutes walk on foot. The rooms are very spacious, with high ceilings and view to the ocean and very nice terrace in front of it. Chatu is very helpful on all the matters. Price is not low but it worths it, 10 from 10. This hotel made our stay in all Sri Lanka.

Amazing location, really near to a few great surf breaks! Also perfectly placed between Weligama and Ahangama so it’s great for getting around to both locations for surfing and site seeing. The staff and food were amazing! Couldn’t have asked to meet better people especially as I was solo traveling. I will 100% be returning. Le personnel est très accueillant, souriant et à l’écoute. Le logement dans sa globalité est agréable. On se sent bien en vacances. La chambre sent bon, elle est propre. La vue de la chambre est splendide. Le petit déjeuner est excellent ! ( mention spéciale pour les pancakes délicieux).

L’eau chaude met parfois du temps à arriver mais rien de grave , elle fini par venir !

Stilvoll und gemütlich eingerichtetes Gästehaus. Total sauber und ruhig gelegen, mit tollem Blick von der Dachterrasse bis zum Meer. Der Strand liegt direkt auf der anderen Straßenseite, nur ein paar Minuten zu Fuß. Surfboard Verleih vor Ort. Sehr großzügige Außenbereiche vor den Zimmern, vor allem in der ersten und zweiten Etage, das ist toll gemacht! Es wirkt alles sehr offen. Die Zimmer sind groß und die Betten gemütlich. Der Garten ist ebenfalls sehr schön, mit gemütlichen Sitzgelegenheiten ausgestattet. Sehr netter und interessierter Gastgeber & Familie, alles sehr persönlich. Leckeres Essen! Wir haben uns dort sehr wohlgefühlt und würden jederzeit gerne wiederkommen! 😊 Danke Chathu!

Best place in Sri Lanka! The rooms are huge, tidy and comfy. The host Chatu is the best host I ever had and the whole team is just lovely. Food is also very good, thank you guys for everything! We’ll definitely come back :-)

予定より早く到着したのですが、すぐにチェックインさせてくれ、とても助かりました。 部屋はスポットレスで清潔！エアコンもCeiling funも付いていて快適です。部屋の前には海を見渡せる大きなテラスが付いており、ベンチでゆったりしたり、水着を干したり。３階のSea View、絶対におすすめの部屋です。レストランの食事もとても美味しいですよ。 蚊が気になってたら、庭ではMosquito coilを付けてくれ、部屋ではElectric mosquito repellentを貸してくれました。ありがとう！ チェックアウトの日、予約済みのコロンボ行きタクシーが勝手にキャンセルされて困っていたら、すぐにいろいろなところに電話してタクシーを手配してくれました。 オーナーのChatu、スタッフ全員とてもフレンドリーで親切です。サーフレッスンやビーチのことなど、もっと相談すれば良かったと少し後悔です。 また帰ってきたいなーと思えるホテルです。

Friendly staff, good atmosphere and great food!

Bad ventilation in the bathroom, always moist and mosquitos coming in if keeping the window open especially at night.

Close to everything people very friendly the rooms are a great size and comfortable. Quiet Area I would highly recommend to stay here.

Great great rooms (my favorite is on the second floor, just because of the view, but the lower room I had was also great). Super clean and well designed. Food is great and great value, I ate their whole menu. Everyone who works there is super kind and they can help you organize everything you need locally (laundry, surfing, scooters). All while being super fair with the prices.

The host was so kind and helpful. The location is really convenient for surfing and not so touristy but you also can take tuktuk to a lot of beach and tourist spots.

The stuff is really nice and always helpful. The location of the accommodation is perfect - just 5min walk to the plantation surf spot. There also restaurants near by but I would recommend to get a scooter. They organize you scooters if you want. You should though check if the lights are working. We had a very nice room on the second floor with see view. We could even see the plantation point break from our balcony. We really loved staying there. We also enjoyed that the hot water was working after our evening surf sessions.

You have to pay 300 LKR (about 1€) for a 1 liter water bottle and there is no shop close by. In a near by local restaurant we paid 200 LKR for a 1.5 liter bottle. The shower in our bathroom was placed in the middle of the bathroom and therefore after showering everything was wet. Fortunately, there is a sweeper to push the water to the drain.

Brilliant, comfortable Welcoming and informative

We had a really relaxing, enjoyable first stay in SriLanka. The family at Plantation made us feel at home and were there for all our needs. We will recommend this place to others. Chathu (boss man) was great.

What a great spot! Excellent location really near all the good spots in Midigama, and away from the crowds. Also very near the bus stop for transport further afield. Lovely, friendly staff who helped us lots. Really accomodating, and also very easy to rent a surfboard for the day. Huge room, really clean and big en suite with a warm shower. The food was SO good - we had dinner and breakfast a couple of times, and every time it was great.

Loved everything about our stay in Plantation Surf Inn. We even extended our stay to a week. Chattu and staff are wonderful, the rooms are spacious, clean and modern. The breakfast is incredible and the value for money is great. You won’t regret staying here - we will be returning on our next trip and staying for longer. Midigama was by far the more beautiful beaches and not as crowded as Ahangama and Weligama.

We spent an excellent time with Chathu and his team. Chathu was incredibly helpful before we even arrived, helping transport my surfboard to Midigama from Colombo while we visited the Highlands. The property is great. It has the advantage of being slightly set back from the main road so is quiet (apart from the peacocks, monkeys...!). We had a top floor room which was huge and with sea views. The property is also within walking distance from the main surfing beaches. We ate at the property several times and the food was excellent. The team also organised yoga classes on the roof at sunrise. All in all, a great experience and would highly recommend Plantation Surf Inn.

Absolutely amazing place with an incredibly warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful, making the experience truly special. A massive shoutout to the amazing host, Chathu, who went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect! My room was massive, the bed extremely comfortable and the whole stay was super. We recently spent two weeks at the Plantation Surf Inn in Midigama East, and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The location is absolutely perfect – right across from the beach and within easy reach of incredible surf breaks like Plantation, Lazy Left, Lazy Right, Rams and Coconut. The inn itself is stunning. The rooms are impeccably clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Everything was spotless and beautifully presented. But what truly made our stay exceptional was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and went above and beyond to assist us with anything we needed. Their suggestions for places to visit were spot-on, and their warm hospitality made us feel right at home. The Plantation Surf Inn is more than just a place to stay; it's a place that fosters a true sense of community and relaxation. We already miss the peaceful atmosphere and the friendly faces. Everything was perfect!!

Chathu is the man! He helped us with literally everything and made us feel like friends. We loved our stay and had a great time! The room was large and comfortable, super clean, same for the bathroom. The rooms on the upper floors have an amazing view! We loved going on the roof top to check out the surf and the sunset 🤩 You can walk to many surf breaks, restaurants and cafes. And the in-house restaurant is really good and very reasonably priced. Enjoy!!

It’s like homecoming. Cozy, clean, friendly, quiet - you name it. Probably best beach (Paradise Cove) nearby. Lot of friendly locals + great food options in walking distance. You can also have great home made dinner in the property. If you like all above then it’s a strong go.

Lovely staff and lovely accomodation that is well located if you want to surf in the Midigama, Ahnaghama area. Rooms are lovely and big, exceptionally clean and the staff were so helpful making us feel at home and helping us with scooter rentals.

Perfect located, beautiful House. Nice Place to meet people. Very friendly people/family who take care of everything. They managed a day Trip to Udawalawe, nice food in the evening. There Are nice restaurants and cafes only a few meters Away and beautiful beaches and surfspots. I would totally recommend it and we will come back :)

We had a wonderfull stay at the Plantation Surf Inn. We felt very welcome from the minute we arrived. Greeted always with a smile. Very helpful and nice to chat with. The building is very clean and good cared for. We stayed at the top floor and had great view over the ocean from the huge balcony area. The room itself had plenty of space with a comfortable bed, desk and two wardrobes (open and closed). The location is perfect for surfers, plenty of great spots in short walking distance plus several more along the coast. Nice beaches in walking distance. Rental around the corner and Cafes a plenty. We alwys had breakfast and dinner in-house at the big table and only went to other cafes/bars to grab a snack. We would definitely recommend and come back to the beautiful Plantation Surf Inn :)

I stayed in a ground floor room facing the front garden, and it was a bit noisy at night and at breakfast. An upper room is a better choice for more silence for a nice rest.

Chathu was a very warm and friendly host and we felt so welcome and safe at Plantation. It’s conveniently located at Midigama just a short 5-7 minute drive to most of the cafes and nightlife at Ahangama. The room was really clean and comfortable. We were easily able to rent a scooter from the property and Chathu recommended us some routes to explore. We will definitely be back next time we are in Midigama.

Nice property.

Chattu and the rest of the staff were all tops - they helped us arrange a scooter and offered great recommendations about where to hire surfboards, the various surf breaks (there are about 5 within easy walking distance), some nice restaurants to visit in the area etc. The food we had at the Family Kitchen was also delicious - I especially loved the dahl and rotti for breakfast! Overall we had a great time and would stay here again.

Nothing to complain about but the rooftop could be better. Maybe it was because it was raining a lot while we were there but it would have been nice to have a couple of chairs up there to enjoy a sundowner looking out over the waves!
