Everything was perfect! The staff were amazing, the breakfast was delicious, and the onsens plus the massage chairs were perfect after a day of skiing. The overall vibe of the place is unforgettable. This place truly has a soul!
Nothing!
The hospitality and breakfast.
Getting into the basement in ski boots was a bit frightening. I worried that a fall would wreck our trip
The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The common area was also a great space to socialise and relax.
This was our second stay at Skala, as we loved the hospitality and friendliness of Osamu San and his family. Their local knowledge makes your stay a breeze. The breakfast, the inn is clean and quiet, the amenities and proximity to restaurants and busses to the mountain make it easy to navigate. There is a laundry, a drying rack, ski storage area, public bath, massage chair. Everything you want or need. They go above and beyond for their guests. They even arranged to send our luggage straight to the airport. Everything is easy and hassle free.
There is nothing to dislike
The staff at Skala Inn went above and beyond our expectations and provided amazing hospitality from start to finish, super friend, welcoming and helpful. The homemade breakfast was delicious and the over all environment was homie and spacious.
The walls are quite thin so you can hear other people at times, but that’s was the only dislike we could think of. We would still stay again and recommend to family and friends.
The property is very clean, cozy and quiet. Comfortable bed and enough space to store your luggage in the room without feeling cramped. The gear drying room was very handy to have and the ofura was a great way to loosen up after a long ski day. Breakfast was great with a good assortment of fresh items, and the owners were fantastic/accomidating hosts. Nice common room with a bar to relax and chat with other guests.
The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to help us when one of our members was sick and injured.
Staff were beyond great, accomodation was in a great location and facilities were perfect. The breakfast provided by staff each morning was phenomenal
Beautiful and charming lodge to stay for our ski holiday. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our time.
The included breakfast was incredible. The staff were so kind and accommodating. They spoke exceptional english whicih made our stay so much easier. They helped us with booking taxis to make our trip so much smoother. It was such a cute inn and will definitely stay there next time.
Nothing.
Perfect location just a short walk to echoland, the place was such a cozy homey vibe and we just loved it.
The family who runs the inn was so friendly and kind. They live next door and are always ready to help whenever we need. The lounge with a little bar is a great spot to mingle and relax after a long day of skiing. Also they made the best homemade plum wine.
Location, staff service, cleanliness, comfort and convenience.
The toilet seat is not heated.
Everyone at the hotel was absolutely amazing, and so helpful with shuttle service to and from the terminal. Great location and breakfast. Room was super comfy, can’t say enough good things 10/10
Nothing!
Great location and service
Osamu-san and his family, along with the other staff are very welcoming. They are always ready to help. Plus, seconds away to bus stop when going to Happo One. Their pickup/drop off service have really helped me be at ease with travels especially thinking about luggages and ski/snowboard equipments.
The family that run Skala Inn went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and provide any support required during our stay. My partner and I stayed in one of the upstairs Western Style double rooms with ensuite, it was cozy but provided all we needed for the 5 days we stayed. The Inn is perfectly located for a ski holiday, a short walk to the restaurants, cafes and ski rental shops of Echoland. They have an arrangement wth most of the gear rental places, meaning that you can leave your hire gear in the mud room and it will be collected from there on the last day of hire. The bus stop for the mountain shuttle busses was at the end of the driveway, which made it super easy getting to and from the slopes each day. Breakfast was included with our booking. It consisted of freshly served egg and ham plus an assortment of pastries, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and tea/coffee served buffet style. We left feeling full every morning. Loved our stay overall and if we ski Hakuba again, Skala Inn will be our first choice for accommodation.
The pillows in our room were very soft and flat. A minor discomfort really. In hindsight I could have asked for an extra pillow and I'm sure they would have been happy to provide one.
Amazing service and all the facilities you need for a ski trip.
It was amazing. The staff were outgoing and prioritised customer service over anything else. Any problem you had they would go out of their way to help you out. The food was standard western arrangement of pastries with a special new breakfast meal each day. The location is about a 5-10 minute walk from majority of stores. About a 10 second walk from bus stop that leads to goryu, Hakuba 47 and happo one and a 10 minute walk if you would like to catch a shuttle to tsugaike. Staff had very good English speaking.

Erittäin mukava ja huomioiva majoittaja. Itse majoitus oli siisti ja hyvällä sijainnilla. Ympäristö on kaunista ja lähellä laskettelukeskuksia.
The location is perfect—very close to the bus stop. The host was incredibly helpful
The staff was very nice and helpful. The Inn is cozy and very lovely with some fine and historic decorations. The breakfast was fantastic.
The pension is run by a family and you can feel it. Very friendly and helpful service, spotless clean room, the best breakfast I have had in Japan, nice location by the woods, comfortable beds...everything is just perfect. I absolutely recommend.
Everything was perfect
Great location and full of character. Very charming inn!
Absolutely loved our stay at Skala! This family-run inn is managed by a wonderful couple, Osamu and Asako. The rooms are clean and good sized, and the location is great — a 10-min walk to the main street of Echoland, with a shuttle bus stop conveniently right outside. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast spread every morning. We visited Hakuba for a few days of snowboarding and were fortunate to arrive at a time when pick-up could be arranged. Since we hadn’t rented our gear yet, Osamu kindly drove us to the rental shop on the way to the inn. They even handled the gear returns for us, which was a huge convenience—no need to lug our equipment around or walk long distances in heavy boots. There's also a basement storage area to dry gear after a day on the slopes. After a day of snowboarding, it was nice to unwind in the cozy lounge with a beer by the fireplace or relaxing in the massage chair. Osamu and Asako went above and beyond to assist us multiple times during our stay, including arranging a ride to the bus station when we couldn’t get an Uber and helping me get my phone back after I left it on the shuttle bus. They put their hearts into running this place, and it shows in their warmth and hospitality. Thank you Osamu and Asako! Highly recommend Skala, and we would definitely stay here again!
The staff were so attentive, water pressure was great, shuttle stopped right near the hotel, the home made breakfast was delicious, and the lounge was relaxed and comfortable.
The beds are hard, but that seems to be common in Japan. I was 20 weeks pregnant during our stay, so the hard beds were getting to me
The staff and breakfast was amazing
Everything was perfect, put only complaint was the smell in the basement room, it may have been kerosene? Not sure.
Close to the CBD
The staff are very helpful and their service exceeded expectations! Breakfast had a good variety and a different daily hot dish. Plus, hotel is located walking distance from the food street in Echoland and very near the shuttle bus stop.
Minor inconvenience: Hot water pressure is inconsistent except in the basement (where the shared bath is).
A beautiful, traditional family run inn. Thank you to our hosts who were incredibly helpful and have made this an amazing place to stay. Delicious homemade breakfasts every day. In a quiet part of town but with a bus stop just next door. Bedrooms were cosy and comfortable. The onsen was great after a long day skiing, and it was so nice to have the lounge area to relax in during the evening.
The owner and all the workers go above and beyond for you

If I could give Skala Inn 100 stars, I absolutely would! This is, without a doubt, the most incredible place I have ever stayed. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and kindness by the staff, instantly making us feel at home. Our room was spotless, incredibly comfortable, and the bed was wonderfully spacious—perfect for a restful night after a day of adventure. The bar and lounge area was a dream, with cozy couches and a heavenly massage chair that we appreciated so much after a long day. Enjoying a beer or a glass of their homemade plum wine after unwinding in the onsen after a big day at the snow was pure bliss. Breakfast was an absolute delight, with a delicious variety that changed daily. The freshly baked in-house pastries were the perfect finishing touch—such a treat! The location couldn't be better, right by the free shuttle to the resorts and within walking distance of fantastic restaurants. But what truly sets Skala Inn apart is the incredible hospitality of the family who runs it. Their warmth, generosity, and genuine care for their guests make this place so special. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and we felt completely at home. Saying goodbye was truly difficult, but there is no doubt—we will definitely be returning!
Location, Hospitality
My husband and I loved our stay at Skala Inn. The owners and the entire staff were wonderful and go out of their way to make your stay worth it. The breakfast is lovely, there are 3 shuttle buses for the ski lifts all within a 5 min walk from the Inn. And plenty of restaurants and bars within a 15 minute walk. The hospitality was top notch and we would stay here again for sure!
We liked everything!
Absolutely lovely and very accommodating staff. Made us feel extremely welcome. Room was very clean and comfortable facilities. Breakfast was good and three train/bus station transfers to choose from each morning
Location was a little bit out of the way in echoland. Relatively close to bars/shops
We had a lovely time at Skala Inn, the owners were so lovely and accomodating. Great location to the shuttle bus for skiing. Delicious breakfast everything morning! We will be back next year
nothing
From the moment we were picked up from the bus station, to the time we were dropped back off our stay was incredible. The family run inn was the perfect mix of a traditional Japanese stay and modern comfort. The other guests mingled well - there were no kids, and was all adult guests. The morning breakfasts were so fresh and delicious. The bus stop to the ski resorts were just a few seconds walk, and about a 8 min walk to restaurant row. I would absolutely stay here again.
There is nothing I can report on here.
Everything was great! The couple that owns it is incredible, they go above and beyond to make the stay nice. They were always around to help and make recommendations! We will definitely be staying again when we return to Hakuba!
The breakfasts were amazing fresh baked croissants! the staff were so friendly and accomodating and the rooms were a great size with great facilities. location was a short walk into Echoland and it was nice and quiet
Family run place and they really care about your comfort and trip - loved it!
The breakfast was a little different every morning and way amazing!
Clean and comfortable. Has a cosy, homely vibe. The staff accommodates to your needs and provides shuttle services on your arrival and departure. Would stay again.
Nothing.
Was cosy, good Onsen
Clean and comfy. Staff super kind and helpful. Drying room solid. Included breakfast was yummy.
Beautiful location. Owners went out of their way to make our and everyone's stay perfect. Pick up from Hakuba bus station. Breakfast was amazing.
Skala Inn is truly special. The property is gorgeous and cozy and the hosts are so warm and inviting. The hosts do everything possible to help you when you arrive and depart, from collecting you from the train station, collecting your rental gear, and dropping everything off when you leave. The breakfast provided each morning was also delicious. Our stay could not have been more lovely.
Breakfast was lifesaving, the staff were lovely, the location was excellent, close to many bus stops.
A beautiful property in a good position close to the ski bus. But the best part is the family who run this beautiful place and make it feel like a home away from home with their hospitality, kindness, humour and service. It’s a short walk to the Main Street for lots of dinner options.
Excellent hosts. Looked after our every need including pick up and drop off at the bus station and organising ski gear hire. Bus stop to ski fields was only 50m from front door.

Great location and friendly helpful owners
The staff were wonderful. The facilities were great. The breakfast was yum. The vibe is so cute.
Nothing!
Lovely place and staff. I liked the services around the place as well.
Cold breakfast
Wonderful family who run the Inn. It was such a pleasure to also meet the woman who has owned it for 38 years. Breakfast was delicious with a different hot dish of eggs, ham and cheese served every morning. I will definitely come back next year.
Just be careful stepping out of the bathroom- it is quite a big step down.
Lovely hosts, great location and very clean. Hosts went above and beyond taking us to the ski hire shop and dropping us off at the bus station. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, will definitely be back
Excellent breakfast, beds were super comfy! Superb service, the host picked us up from the bus station and drove us to a ski rental place as well.
Everything! Our stay at Skala Inn was perfect. All of the staff are so kind and helpful, always going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. From the moment we were picked up, to the moment we left, we couldn't have had a better stay. We would highly recommend anyone coming to Hakuba/Echoland to stay in this beautiful accommodation. Thank you!
Nothing. It was perfect.
Everything was so cozy and the family who was running the property was unbelievable!
Could not fault one thing
Our hosts were so kind and courteous. Always willing to lend a helping hand and go above and beyond. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Hakuba!
The cozy lounge/bar is the perfect size for the accommodation capacity. I particularly enjoyed the bar, the massage chair, and the friendly conversations with the owner’s family. The breakfast was excellent, featuring freshly baked bread and pastries made by the owner, along with a well-balanced meal to fuel a day of skiing. They offer discounted day lift tickets for Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba 47, which is a great perk.
The bathtub in the common bathroom was under maintenance during my stay, so I couldn’t enjoy a hot bath this time. However, I look forward to returning and experiencing it on my next visit to Hakuba.
The family running Skala are awesome and went so far out of their way to make sure everyone is comfortable. When we come back to hakuba this will be our first choice. Can't recommend it enough.
Wonderful experience at this cozy, family operated lodge. Shuttle is right outside the lodge. Breakfast and service were excellent. They even have a bar with a nice whiskey selection! We loved our time at Skala and would recommend it to anyone skiing Hakuba Valley.
Super cozy Inn! The family running the Inn were super lovely and accommodating. Facilities were really nice and breakfast each morning was great! Would definitely recommend, we enjoyed our stay.
Nothing.
Very comfortable, cosy stay. We had the corner room with two windows looking out to snow covered trees. The lounge area had a massage chair and fireplace which we used every day. Very easy access to free shuttle buses to all of Hakuba snow resorts. Best breakfast we had in Japan.
The onsen was closed during our stay. We ran baths in our room instead but would have been nice to be able to use the facility
