We had a lovely, peaceful stay at the eco retreat!
Nice surroundings, nice breakfast
The hotel is surrounded in nature, which gives an amazing sense of peace and connection. The owner is so kind and helpful, we loved him. Breakfast was also amazing, probably one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. There was no yoga when I was there but the space is beautiful and really nice.
The rooms and sheets were not very clean. We arrived with a very heavy rain and there was some leaking in the room.
Przemiły właściciel, pyszne śniadanie, spokojny klimat idealny na relaks i wyciszenie.

Hostel was very kind and attentive. Stunning relaxing location. Beds had mosquito nets and nicely furnished. Great area for yoga. Delicious breakfast.
There was a lot of ants in my room and especially in the bathroom aeound the mirror. I was just careful wirh food in the room. and they were not near my sleeping area so I just lived with them. It's a beautiful spot in nature so I don't mind some animals in the room but the ants were very numerous.
Ormanın içinde çok güzel bir konumda. Tuktuk ile merkeze maximum 10 dakika. Kaldığımız oda büyük ve gayet iyiydi. A/c yok ama fanı bile açmadık gece zaten serin oluyor. Yoga dersi güzeldi ama çok özel abartılı bir şey beklemeyin.
Odada karınca var ama küçük olanlardan , ısırmıyorlar.
The owner Sunil was so lovely & helpful. The breakfast was wonderful.
So many mosquitoes but that’s due to the jungle location so expected.
A very kind host and a nice room embedded in nature. The breakfast was lovely, option for European or Sri Lankan - both so good. Such a lovely stay for the price.
I didn’t rate the yoga class too highly, but I have done a yoga in lots of places and probably have high standards.
The manager was very attentive and helpful. He helped us with his tuk tuk to the train station. He prepared a lovely breakfast for us. We loved the yoga classes with a very experienced teacher. The setting was exceptional in the forest, quiet and peaceful
The ants in the bathroom… a bit humid too
The eco retreat is located almost in a forest surrounded area, though just 10 minutes drive to the city unbelievable atmosphere. Host Sunil was exceptional hospitality and serving the guests with lots of fruits and varieties. Yoga at top roof with tree surrounded, humming birds at morning is a totally a different experience. Unlike in western Yoga conducted by Radesh is totally traditional with mixture of yoga philosophy is a new experience to us. I highly recommend this property.
Nothing
Wonderful location amongst nature. The manager was amazing and went out of his way to make us comfortable.
Maybe some new bed sheets would be nice.
Excellent dinner in the forest kitchen, and beautiful Yoga classes with a local knowledgeable teacher (who also teaches Yoga for Ayurveda Medical Students). He teaches traditional Yoga - no fancy Western variations, which I really papreciated. The host is very welcoming. The location, in the middle of the forest is absolutely superb!
It's more of a basic accomodation in the forest... walls are not too thick so you can hear people talking and the animals at night.
Very nice place located in the jungle, you need to take tuk tuk to Kandy town but totally worth it. Very calm, peaceful area surrounded by bush, trees, wild animals and birds singing. Beds were comfy and clean. Place offers joga classes, massage and dinner here with extra pay. I totally recommend this place when staying in Kandy!
A little bit dusty but understandable according to condiotions and location of place :)
The host was amazing and friendly, the location perfect. The staff very helpful
A very tranquil place on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of Kandy city with the bonus of yoga classes surrounded by trees. Friendly service and great breakfast. Best to take a tuk tuk into the centre. Bring mozzie repellent!
We had a nice stay at the eco lodge. Its a little out of town but that makes it a calm place to stay. Its surounded by nature (so be aware that there could be insects etc...). The man who took care of our stay is very kind and caring. He made a good breakfast each morning. We also ordered a diner, a curry buffet. It was very tasty!
It was cheap, the chap was nice enough and breakfast was good.
Its simply too rough and ready for us. We are not inexperienced travellers but it wasnt clean, sheets were stained and had holes in them. Overrun with a variety of bugs, some wild, some perhaps more common in older bedding. We skipped out after one night, couldn't face the second.
i booked the tent so it was not that comfortable but special. The staff was supernice,i arrived late and he cooked me some rice and tea so i felt very welcomed.they offer yoga class in the morning and very good traditional ayurveda treatments which i defo recommend-.was one of the best i ever had.
Only the heavy rain was annoying but thats no ones fault:)
Loved staying here, I passed through Kandy several times and stayed in a private room and also a tent. Both accommodations are really nice, theres a lovely breakfast and the space in the woods is so peaceful and calm. The room is clean and comfortable and the tent was also pleasant. There's a grocery nearby you can walk to, and the city is not too far off, especially if you have your own wheels. I definitely recommend to anyone staying in Kandy.
The location is great, in the jungle, so you will get some fresh air. You can easily call a TukTuk to get into Kandy city center. We joined the morning yoga class that they offered which was very nice! Staff was very friendly and helpful! The room itself is very basic, it would be nice to have some kind of shelf or more hooks to put your things, especially as there are a lot of insects. It could also be cleaner. There was very little to no hot water in the shower, which was okay as the weather was hot.
Our stay was great! It’s all very basic, but the people are so nice! It’s in the middle of the jungle. And the yoga class is really good! I would totally recommend to eat there as well, because the self prepared food of the cooking couple with the name ‘spice forest organics’ was the best!!!
The staff was incredible. So sweet and so professional. Loved being in the jungle outside of the noisy bustle of Kandy, while still being a quick ride into the city. Also loved having cooking classes, yoga classes and Ayurveda treatments all available.
Because you’re in a wooded area, more mosquitos. That’s the only downside!
Private and in the forest. We really liked being able to do yoga in the forest top Shala.
For those looking for relaxation, away from the noise of the city and spending a pleasant time in the forest atmosphere, in addition to the fact that the location is only 2 km away from Kandy Train Station.
Perfect location just 5 minutes tuk tuk from main town in a peaceful jungle setting. The owner and staff were so welcoming , helpful and just great. They really take care of you. Amazing Spice Kitchen cooking school on site, very authentic and a nice thing to experience whislt there. Yoga class was great too. Rooms were spacious too x
The hotel is located in a peaceful area surrounded by nature, offering a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for those seeking quiet and a connection with nature. Guests can also join morning yoga sessions for an additional fee, which adds to the overall experience.
Cold water
I loved the location. Very peaceful and our room was very nice
Staff was good.
Very dirty linens, malfunctioning bathroom fittings, smelly bedsheets and pillows.
We loved this place and will definitely recommend it further! It feels like a little jungle with many birds and small animals. Comfortable room and bathroom with a warm water. Amazing breakfast served right in front of your room. Very friendly and helpful host. Yoga classes on the top floor - a cherry on the top of a cake! We liked it so much that decided to book an additional night. Highly recommended!
Everything was perfect!
Location - like being in the jungle retreat near the city. Personal was very friendly and trying to accommodate my vegan and special diet
A bit dark and slightly damp. Shower didn’t have warm water at all times. Room overall (curtains, furniture) need some clean from dust. But all worth the price.
Beautiful place under the trees. We saw so many birds. The guy running the place was so kind!! Wonderful breakfast. I had a very nice treatment. Only spent a night, but it was lovely.
The location and ambiance.
Amazing place, a little oasis in the busy city. Cottages are nice and comfortable, our host was really kind and made an excellent breakfast for us.
Our host was great and helped us with anything we needed. The place is located in the jungle and very beautiful and idyllic. It is bit outside of Kandy but definitely worth the little walk (about 20min) or the short ride with a tuktuk. The yoga class at the rooftop was great!
Amazing staff, yoga and treatment available on premises, but most importantly it is a quiet heaven nearby big city. Has a great atmosphere, I can highly recommend!
Sunni was the best host we have ever had. Always smiling, always helpful no matter what time of day.
The room was damp and smelled a bit. Was the worst part of the stay.
Location in the forest and breakfast menu
Safety
Great location away from the busy city with a nature feel. Tuktuk to the center with PickMe about 200-300. A lot of animals come by, especially birds - a bird of paradise was bathing in a bird bath just off the balcony. Sunil was super helpful and kind and helped me identify some of the birds. Food was good, nice Hatha yoga sessions on top of a tower with views for the top of the trees, loved the Ayurvedic massage/treatments.
The bedroom, particularly the toilet could do with a bit of a facelift. The bidet was not working and all the taps were difficult to shut. Hot water pressure is low. I still found it good value for money.
The owner was so nice and took care of everything I wanted, the space is very relaxing in the nature but still close to the main city I love this place, 100% will come back, very recommend!!! 🤗
The eco-resort blends seamlessly with nature, creating a very peaceful environment with no noise other than the sounds of nature. The owner was extremely helpful, arranging both a vehicle and a guide for the Pekoe Trail hike at a reasonable price. Rameez took exceptional care of us, going above and beyond our expectations. The breakfast was excellent.
Nothing
I've loved each second i've spent in this place. The host Is a very nice person, very kind and attentive for any guest's need. He really goes much further any expectations and I think he is the one who makes this place so special and unique. The place is super quiete, sourranded by trees, singing birds and squirrels...so out of the crowd but still pretty close to the center of the city and easy to get with a 10 min tuktuk ride. Healthy and fresh breakfast is served outside of the room where you can also have dinner if you order it in advance. I had a yoga session which was nice
That's my kind of place. but I could say that could be very helpful the possibility of paying by card.
Property is Great value and relaxing. Good to get out of the city and be in nature. Big rooms, comfortable beds with fan and mosquito nets. Morning baths yoga class in a shala up in the trees is a great way to start the day. Good for beginner levels. Location is about a 10-15 min tuk tuk away from town, food options are quite far away also, though breakfast and dinner available for extra charge which is convenient.
Room smelt a tiny bit damp, but there are mozzies so don’t want to open the door. Yoga a bit expensive $10USD after discount. ($15USD for people not staying at the property)
In the jungle while also being close to the city center (~2.5km), manager is a sweet guy always willing to help and provide assistance. No AC on room but because of the ‘natural AC’ (trees) we did not need it. Rooms spacious and clean, beds find and nice breakfast too. Visiting Kandy 1 full day is enough (nice experience)
Nice and calm place in the jungle close to the city center. Really nice host and great breakfast 🙂 We also booked some tours and relaxing treatments - overall a very nice stay.
Due to the humidity the rooms were a bit musty and a little dark.
The lodge is a little outside of Kandy and it felt like I was in the middle of a rainforest. Stunning location. The manager was very lovely, he was always on hand to help with everything. I did the yoga classes every morning which were really great - very different from Westernised yoga, I learned so much about the flows and chakras and yoga “theory” from the instructor. There are also Ayurvedic treatments (between 45-60usd for lodgers) which were such a nice treat :)
The bathroom and room didn’t have any air flow and as a result it felt really humid and musty inside. There was a damp smell - even with the fan left one. The bathroom had a bit of an ant problem but that’s to be expected with a property that’s in the middle of nature.
It’s a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing place, where you feel that you live in a jungle. It has a yoga place where you can practice. The breakfast was good. The stuff is helpful. I recommend it.
The man in charge was really lovely and helpful. It’s a peaceful place with beautiful bird song. The massage was nice and the woman very friendly and loving.
Unfortunately you could hear the sound of the nearby gym playing music, which disrupted the beautiful sounds of the jungle. It was very dark in the room and the bathroom was very basic.
We spent one night at the Kandy Eco Retreat and booked a nice yoga class early in the morning. The place is nice and far from the chaos of the city. Suni from the staff was super nice and took very good care of us, preparing a delicious breakfast.Thank you!!!
Unfortunately it was very hot the day we were in Kandy so it was difficult to sleep at night in the room (no a/c, just a fan). On a side note: Some tuk tuk drivers in Kandy seem not to know the exact location of the Eco Retreat, which resulted in longer wait for the pick up/wrong directions on the way back. It was ok for us.
Quiet and remote place in the jungle, while being close and accessible to Kandy. Perfect place to relaxe, practice yoga and meditate.
I loved that the property was in the middle of nature, simple and quiet. The weather was amazing and actually you didn’t need air conditioning which was my biggest worry knowing how hot it’s in April. They have an amazing yoga shala in the woods that you can use and amazing breakfast and dinner. The staff also was so sweet and went above and beyond to accommodate the fact that I can’t eat gluten and eggs.
Yoga classes were expensive so I ended up doing my own practice which was also fine :)
Good
I loved the location. Not too far from Kandy town yet it felt quite far from the hustle and bustle. Peaceful place surrounded by trees and my room was clean and spacious. I had a lovely ayurvedic massage on the day I arrived and a nice yoga session the next day (Booked separately upon arrival). There's also a nice small church within walking distance. The caretaker was very kind and hospitable. Highly recommended for solo travelers looking for some peace and quiet from the busy city life.
I booked the Ayurveda Spice Forest Retreat which was a full board package. Was happy with breakfast and dinner but lunch was pretty average as it was just a lunch packet on both days and no dessert was served. No snacks or drinks were offered between main meals so take some snacks if you like to munch on something while reading and chilling.
A restful haven away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. Much care in creating a sanctuary. Sunil is a marvellous host.
Nothing to not like.
Nice and quiet place and very kind host
We love the jungle atmosphere. The Big room with 2 big beds is very comfortable. The room's decor, soft lighting, large glass door is very appealing. The staff is very professional, accommodating and pleasant. Overall a beautiful place. Highly recommended to stay.
The female Ayurveda Therapist was lousy. She could not communicate properly in English. She couldn't even manage a steam bath properly. During the steam bath, I did not even perspire and she didn't even bother to check. She just kept asking "Good ? Good?" when she hasn't been doing much which was very irritating. She was also clumsy closing the door on my foot when I was trying to get back in the room after the outdoor steam bath. The treatment room was very dark and crammed and has heavy wooden dividers with protruding legs which I tripped over. Plenty of mosquitoes flying around during treatment. The overall atmosphere was dark and creepy All in all a lousy experience that I have paid too much for and will not bother to repeat. Definitely not recommended. The plants in the garden near the round yoga platform needs trimming. It is getting into your face when you try and pass by on the way up to the Ayurvedic treatment room. There were some mouldy stains on the bathroom walls and walls outside the bathroom.
Really peaceful to say it's so close to Kandy. You are looked after by Sanny who is a great guy.
Nothing really.
The location might be a bit out of Kandy, but also out of its traffic and noise .The place is surrounded with beautiful trees and singing birds. Being on the terrasse to take their excellent breakfast is perfect for a good start of the day. People sre utmost helpful
Nothing
Sweetest host, wonderful relaxing location in the middle of the trees, few animals running around from time to time. They also do the various massages. A very nice place!
I only stayed here for one night when I returned to Kandy to take the train so I don’t feel like I got the chance to make the most of it (didn’t have time to take a yoga class or get a massage). However as somewhere to stay it was so perfect!! Super peaceful, very comfortable and clean and a lovely breakfast and host! Would love to visit again and spend more time!
It is really authentic. From breakfast to yoga to massages. Dont miss out the swim in the river nearby and giant bats over the river at dawn
There some ants but i consider that as authentic since there are ants all over Kandy
The breakfast was excellent. The yoga and traditional Ayurvedic massage was great.
Host was very attentive and helpful. Always available if you needed. Nice, peaceful location. Nice to be away from the city. Nice room
Rooms were dark
Outside light left on all night n noisy people outside room
The best place I stayed so far. Nested in the jungle, away from the chaos of the city, a beautiful place where to practide yoga, rest and meditate. I was sad to leave. The guy keeper is so nice, he helps with anything you ask and he is the kindest. The rooms are spacious, very clean, amazing bed and quietness. Honestly, I could have stayed there the all time. You have privacy, but also all the help you need, very good restaurants 10mins walk… A great value for money. I will come back!
Everything was perfect
Very clean and well run place. Tranquil location in a patch of jungle - nice to return to after a trip into Kandy. Lovely person running it - couldn't be more helpful. Good value.
Nothing.
Lovely place in nature, and lot’s of space to do yoga, massages ect! A Lovely host as well!
Sometimes a bit noisey due to neighbours
Location is in some distance from the city centre. Buit makes it great place to stay, far away from crowds and noise. Yoga classes and massage available. Very relaxing and enjoyable.
Lovely place in the jungle. Very relaxing with lovely staff. It’s basic but beautiful and relaxing. I recommend getting a treatment as soon as you arrive and booking on for morning yoga.
Nothing
The yoga space is amazing/ so many birds.
Unfortunately there is a gym down the road which plays blaring thumping music as early as 6am. And so this spoils the retreat vibe.
Very peaceful place, nice food and good yoga lesson. The host is really helpful and nice.
Stop your search and book this now! The lodge is in the middle of the jungle, it’s so serene and peaceful. It’s feels authentic, with so much thought out into everything. I recommend booking a massage as soon as you arrive. It was simply incredible. And the experience in the traditional Ayurvedic sauna afterwards was total bliss, I fell asleep. The food was outstanding, dinner, breakfast and I received a packed lunch. The host is so kind and thoughtful and welcoming. It really felt like an escape from the city, which isn’t even that car away! The morning yoga class up in the tree canopies was bliss. The yoga teacher was brilliant and very informative. As a solo female traveler I felt so safe and comfortable here. I wish I could’ve stayed longer and will recommend to all my friends.
Nothing!
The nature. It was fantabulous with birds chirping all day long, very cool and breezy. The sumptuous breakfast and fresh fruits were lovely. Moat importantly Sunil was great as a host!
The non-functioning water heater.
The location felt like you were in nature, but time was still accessible. The availability of yoga and aryuveda. The gentle, friendly host! The food!
Nothing
Very friendly staff and host . The host helped us change our booking without extra charge .
We don’t recommend the massage tho , it’s overpriced for what it offers .
Lovely place, stayed there for 10 days. Loved the yoga sessions in the jungle by Mahesha, a really experienced teacher passioned in yoga, meditation and Qi Gong. Sulin and the owner are such great hosts. Also the food is also very good. Loved the chilli and relaxing vibe over there. Also nice to talk to other guests. Thank you for being so welcoming!
