Rathnapriya Oasis

We had a lovely stay at Rathnapriya Oasis. We had both dinner and a Sri Lankan breakfast and they were superb. Our host was able to organise a boat safari for us which we really enjoyed and he was also a very interesting person to talk to and proved us some great information and history of Gal Oya. All in all we had great time and would recommend. Just a small village but walking around everyone really friendly.

The location is very good for Safaris. The owner is very well connected, we got a WhatsApp before our stay from a boat safari operator with an offer. The pool is big and there even live cute frogs and small water insects in it. Der Garten iat herrlich, wunderschön bepflanzt mit goßen Bäumen.

Die Betten knarren, sind aber bequem. Die Wände sind lärmdurchlässig.

This is a lovely Home stat run by a really friendly couple. The room was absolutely spotless, simple but with everything you need. The air-conditioning works fabulously, and there is a pool to cool down. We had meals here which were delicious home-cooked food. The owners also helped us with arranging the boat Safari, as well as transport to our next destination. Highly recommend!

Echt cooler pool, sehr sauber Grosszüges zimmer Nähe zum NP. Beim zurückfahren vom bootsausflug sah Hotelbssitzer ein Elephant, haben sich viel zeit dafür genommen

-das frühstück war 25min verspätet, das wãsche aufhängen war wichtiger als gãste pünktlich frühstück zu geben -zuerst dachten wir es ist ein versehen, zum frühstück gabs pro person nur eine HALBE kleine mineralwasserflsche, eine ganze pro person lag nicht drin. -abfluss dusche hatte enorm viele Frauenhaare, schlichtweg einfach nicht gereinigt -hmm, überlegt es euch wegen dem besuch dieses Np. Ob sichs lohnt. Die bootstour machte einen unproffesionelen Eindruck. Die buchung war unglaublich kompliziert, 1 motor des boot war total defekt, mussten boot wechseln, beim anderen boot mussten sie enorm viel rumschrauben bis er wieder ein paar meter ging und dann wieder rumschrauben. Wir sprachen immer von usd. Genau beim zeitpunkt der abholung kahm whattsapp, rupie. Ob man die zeit evtl nicht besser an einem anderen ort nutz wo sie nicht überfordert, proffesioneller sind?

It was very isolated. Good for one night only, morning boat safari before departing. It was very hot in the dining area. The walls in the rooms are thin, we had very loud neighbours and we could hear them so didn’t get much sleep.

Host was very good. Very close to the where we wanted to go.

Terza tappa del nostro viaggio, eravamo noi ed un'altra coppia di amici. Gal Oya è stata una delle destinazioni meno commerciali che abbiamo visitato, ma proprio per questo una delle più autentiche e sorprendenti. Si è rivelata una vera perla di questo Paese e questo lodge è stato senza dubbio uno dei posti più belli in cui abbiamo soggiornato. La famiglia che ci ha ospitato è stata sempre attenta, disponibile e premurosa. Con loro abbiamo organizzato due safari bellissimi e, nei momenti di relax, abbiamo potuto godere della splendida piscina immersa nel verde. La struttura è molto curata e pulita. Essendo a ridosso del parco nazionale e in una zona piuttosto isolata, nelle vicinanze non ci sono molte alternative per mangiare, quindi abbiamo fatto tutti i pasti al lodge, preparati direttamente dalla moglie del proprietario, e ci siamo trovati davvero bene. Abbiamo trascorso molto tempo a chiacchierare con il proprietario, che ci ha raccontato tante storie e curiosità su quei luoghi meravigliosi, facendoci conoscere ancora di più la realtà di Gal Oya. Quando è arrivato il momento di andare via, ci siamo persino commossi. È uno di quei posti che non dimentichi e che, alla fine del viaggio, ti rimane davvero nel cuore.

L'accueil, le dîner et petit déjeuner sont délicieux et copieux. Un lieu très agréable avec piscine. Tout proche pour faire un safari dans la jungle ou un safari boat.

Zwembad heel fijn.

Onduidelijke communicatie over boatsafari, jeepsafari en Vedda tour. Ik snap dat men inkomsten wil verdienen uit toerisme, maar ik verwacht meer duidelijkheid en transparantie over welke partij/organisatie wat regelt om mijn wens om echte Gal Oya beleving te hebben. Mogelijk dat alleen Gal Oya Lodge (ver boven mijn budget) dat kan bieden en ik mijn verwachting had moeten bijstellen.

Amazing, tranquil location and the owners look after you so well. The food is excellent, poolis very welcome and youre super close to the national park. The owner will arrange safari for you as well

Om de hoek bij het meer waar de Bootsafari gedaan wordt, gastvrije mensen en de vrouw van de eigenaar kookt heerlijk!

Er waren geen zwemmende olifanten, die zie je eigenlijk nauwelijks daar in deze tijd van het jaar begrepen we later - de verwachtingen hierover hadden beter gemanaged kunnen worden. Maar de boottocht was evengoed erg mooi en ook de jeepsafari (toen wel veel olifanten gezien!) zeker een aanrader. Prachtig landschap ook.

L'unica cosa che non ho apprezzato è l'impossibilità di organizzarsi autonomamente per il boat trip. Costerebbe 12$ ma risulta impossibile comprare i biglietti in autonomia presso l'ufficio ticket. Si è costretti a usare i gestori degli hotel come intermediari e il prezzo sale clamorosamente a 40$ a persona. Non lo trovo corretto. Non so se questo dipenda dai gestori per avere un guadagno extra, comunque il proprietario di questo hotel ha provveduto immediatamente a procurarci i biglietti nel momento in cui non siamo riuscite a comprarli in autonomia, permettendoci di non perdere questa esperienza (pagata comunque cara)

La gentillesse de cette famille! Le lieu est un havre de paix. Les repas proposés sont tellement copieux (nous étions accompagnés de 3 ados morts de faim H24!). Tout est parfait ici pour passer un séjour tout en douceur.

Uno dei posti migliori dove abbiamo alloggiato in Sri Lanka. I proprietari gentilissimi, cucina ottima e a due passi dal ticket office per il safari nel Gal Oya. Bungalow spazioso e letti comodi. Consigliatissimo !

Très bon endroit pour notre étape à Ampara. L'hôtel est très joli, les chambres spacieuses, confortables et très propres. La piscine est super agréable. Et les personnes qui tiennent la guest sont très gentilles. Il est possible de manger sur place. Pas le choix du menu mais ça change à chaque fois et c'est bon. Petit déjeuner Sri Lankais copieux. La région est magnifique.

Leider mussten wir auf Grund eines Missverständnis einen Tag eher abreisen, weil unser Zimmer doppelt gebucht war. Davon abgesehen alles faire Preise und netter Besitzer

Mooi en zeer rustig verblijf, vlak bij de ingang van het nationaal park. We zijn al wandelend onze tickets gaan kopen. De man was zeer behulpzaam om ons met zijn Jeep 's morgens naar het bootsafari startpunt te brengen. Bovendien mochten we onze bagage achterlaten na check out en nog snel een duikje nemen in het zwembad voor we vertrokken (na check out time). We kregen ook een heerlijk traditioneel ontbijt. Het beste dat we tot nu toe gegeten hebben!

Everything Fine

The owner was very friendly, his wife cooked us a delicous diner and breakfast. The room was big, clean and new. The location is great near the dam/lake where we had a great boat-safari arranged by the owner. He was very enthousiastic in showing us around.

Perfekt sted at overnatte hvis man skal besøge Gal Oya nationalpark, da hotellet er lige ved indgangene😊 Her rent og pæt god a/c og delig pool og skøn morgenmad. Ejeren er super sød og hjælpsom, og man kan trygt booke safari gennem hotellet. Her er ingen restaurant, men ejeren kan arrangere mad mm De fleste tager boat safari 06.30 men derudover anbefaler jeg også en jeep safari om eftermiddagen. Der mangler et køleskab på værelserne, men ejeren hjalp os med at bruge stedets eget.

It’s so characterful and beautiful. Clean, nice big rooms, much needed AC very powerful. We felt at home from the moment we arrived, with big beaming smiles from the owners. Bad took us on an excellent safari also where we saw numerous elephants, birds and crocodiles. Very sad to leave !

è un posto molto bello, casette carine con giardino delizioso e piscina. Marito e moglie gestiscono il posto molto bene (lei super cuoca, lui ci ha accompagnato in jeep) la camera era abbastanza ampia e il materasso abbastanza comodo. I gestori sempre disponibili e cordiali, sempre disposto ad aiutarti. posizione ottima per fare il safari boat (noi non abbiamo visto niente purtroppo) , in una zona bellissima. il cibo era delizioso, sia cena che colazione.

il lenzuolo si staccava troppo facilmente, il wi-fi non era per niente buono. l’acqua usata per il caffè non era per niente buona e ha rovinato il sapore del caffè. Non ho capito chi sia chi gestisce il safari ma non è stato un bel contatto. Ci siamo sentiti per telefono prima di arrivare e comunque poco chiaro poi una volta sul posto difficilmente raggiungibile. solo watsup a risposta lenta. Però non ha a che fare con la struttura ma i collegamenti ce li ha forniti il signore che gestisce la struttura.

Loved our stay here, it's very peaceful with great food and a lovely owner. The pool is great to have and super clean as was the room.

Un très bel endroit ! Le propriétaire et sa femme sont aux petits soins et nous ont préparé d’excellents plats Srilankais. Le propriétaire propose des safaris pour des prix raisonnables (contrairement à ce qu’on peut lire dans les commentaires). Petit plus, nous lui avons demandé un guide pour aller randonnée jusqu’au sommet de la colline à côté de la maison. La vue est à couper le souffle !!! C’était une promenade très sportive et qui nécessite de bonnes chaussures mais la vue en vaut la peine !

Accueil chaleureux, endroit très joli, bungalows autour de la piscine. Les petits déjeuners et les dîners sont délicieux!

The guesthouse was immaculately clean and we had a large balcony and use of the fridge downstairs. The host even let us use the washing machine which was great. Good location and close to some really nice local restaurants.

It is beeter if there is a room for 04 people. I had to book 02 rooms for 04 person in my family.

The owner and his wife were fantastic, drove us around when we needed and cooked us some incredible meals. The pool was great after a day in the heat.

La chambre était bien et grande. Le lit était confortable. La salle de bain était correcte avec eau chaude. La piscine est belle. La propriétaire prépare d'excellents repas.

Nous avons été très déçus : nous voulions faire un boat safari de 2h et le propriétaire nous a proposé 80$ (25000 Rs) pour nous deux, c'est un prix exorbitant ! Nous sommes allés directement au bureau du parc, tout proche, et nous avons payé 13000 Rs (42 $) pour nous deux qui est le prix officiel. Le prix pour le safari en jeep était également trop cher ! L'aménagement de la petite terrasse privative laisse à désirer. Elle n'est pas accueillante. Ça manque de fleurs. L'extérieur ne ressemble pas aux photos. Dommage que le petit-déjeuner n'est pas inclus dans le prix. C'est en supplément et il est cher : 1500 Rs/personne. Les repas du soir étaient très bons mais trop chers : 2000 Rs/personne. Les chambres ne sont pas du tout isolées : on entend tout ce qui se passe dans la chambre voisine. Le logement est au bord d'une route. Ne pensez donc pas vous reposer au calme au bord de la piscine. Heureusement, il n'y a pas beaucoup de trafic la nuit, mais dès 5h du matin, ça redémarre. Nous avions réservé 3 nuits, mais nous sommes partis après 2 nuits.

Ik kan deze plek niet genoeg aanbevelen. De locatie was prachtig, het zwembad proper en ideaal van temperatuur, het eten was iedere keer heerlijk en je wordt warm ontvangen en heel goed verder geholpen. Geef het zeker een kans!

The pool is lovely here and the staff and dogs are great.... The beds are at least comfortable too.

Very expensive for what you get. Before I stayed in another place twice as nice and nearly half the cost. I didn't like the bathroom in the family room... The shower had no ceiling and let mozzies in but none of the doors shut properly I didn't like the lack of menu options considering there was nowhere else to eat. And prices were twice as high as other places. You're a kind of captive audience, so tough luck! The owner is terrible at communicating! Has WhatsApp but doesn't read messages until you ask him to. I asked for a boat tour to be arranged, he gave me the number of someone who also did not reply to messages. Turns out you can go direct to the boat safari office and book it direct yourself for almost half the cost...

The host was nice and tried to arrange stuff for us. Food was good value for money. Nice town to walk around. Pool was nice touch S

Posto moto accogliente immerso nel verde, a due passi dal Gal oya national park. Piscina spettacolare e personale meraviglioso. Consiglio vivamente di richiedere cena e colazione presso la struttura, la moglie del proprietario è un abilissima cuoca e non ne rimarrete delusi

Het royale huisje en het fantastische zwembad . Op verzoek kregen wij een waterkoker met koffie- en theezakjes. Dat was heel fijn. De hostfamily was zeer vriendelijk en gastvrij. Elke dag heerlijk gegeten.

This is a simple clean and comfortable stay (with aircon) in close proximity to the boat safari ticket office and dock. Boat safaris can be difficult to book (and overpriced) but you can walk to the office and book there. (Opens at 6am). We were given breakfast and dinner for reasonable prices (about 3000-3500Rs) although we are used to breakfast being included. There is a bit of a premium to stay in Gal Oya generally so this is a good option if you are looking to do boat safari.

The walls are thin so you can hear the neighbouring guests very loudly

Die sehr freundliche Gastgeberfamilie bietet einfache, saubere Zimmer mit gutem Bett, einem großen Bad und einer kleinen Terrasse an. Das Haus hat einen schönen Garten und einen großen Pool. Es liegt verkehrsgünstig. Das Frühstück und das Abendessen waren sehr lecker und die Auswahl an landestypischen Spezialitäten gut.

This double room was better in terms of facilities and enclosed bathroom than the family room I had the previous night....

BUT.... So noisy! Nearer the road and school, paper thin wall to adjoining room so your hear next door person every move and so much noise from outside. All the other things on my last review stand as well.... Expensive for what it is compared to others around Sri Lanka...

The room was large. The food was very good. The pool was great. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Had a lovely one night stay here, with large room and comfortable bed, good AC and warm shower. The owners are lovely, making a delicious evening meal and breakfast and gave us great insight about the area. The location is perfect for the lake safari and the grounds do feel like a little oasis!

die lage des hotels ist perfekt für eine boot safari. der ticket schalter ist in nur 5min zu fuss erreichbar. BootSafari haben wir direkt gebucht (14000 LKR für zwei Personen, 2Stunden), der Host war deswegen nicht aufdringlich so wie es in anderen Reviews steht. Es war sehr sauber, gute ausstattung und das essen, welches immer frisch gekocht wurde, war grosszügig, günstig und gut (abendessen 1500lkr).

Ungewohnt war das Nähe-Distanz Gefühl vom Host, wir wissen nicht welche Intention dahinter war. Für uns aus der Schweiz war er etwas zu präsent (aufdringlich)

Posizione molto comoda per visitare il Gal Oya National Park. La struttura in generale è ristrutturata da poco, molto ampia la stanza, il numero ridotto di stanze rende il soggiorno molto accogliente.

La piscina è il punto forte. Siamo stati una sola notte nei pressi di Gal oya per il Safari. Attività gestita da una famiglia locale, gente gentilissima e disponibile. Stanza pulita, spaziosa, bagno enorme, doccia con acqua calda. Colazione abbondante, e visto che non c'è nulla intorno, ci hanno preparato anche la cena, ottima e porzioni esagerate. La piscina ci vuole, dopo ore di moto e nulla intorno e essenziale per ammazzare il tempo.

Sehr geschickt zum Nationalpark gelegen, Pool, Klimaanlage, warmes Wasser.

Etwas laut in den Zimmern, Decken sehen so aus, als wären sie nicht zum regelmäßigen Waschen gedacht, Restaurant ist mit alten löchrigen Tischdecken etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Vom Fahrer, den die Unterkunft organisiert, müssen wir dringend abraten: Er sollte uns nach Kalkudah fahren, er ist teilweise 80 km/h innerorts gefahren, drei mal gab es fast einen Unfall, sehr gefährliche Überholmanöver… da es keine Gurte hinten gab, hatten wir 2,5 h große Angst um unser Leben. Wir sind schon zwei Wochen im Land und Wissen über die asiatische Fahrweise auch durch andere Urlaube Bescheid, aber so etwas haben wir noch nie erlebt.

Beautiful comfortable family room in a lovely house in the jungle with a lovely swimming pool. We would have liked to stay longer if it wasn’t fully booked. Def coming back.

Nothing. But if you are going for a safari I would def recommend the boat one as the jeep one I think the chances of animal encounter are not as great as the other parks

Kamer was ruim en schoon. Dit was de schoonste badkamer die we in 3 weken Sri Lanka gehad hebben. Zwembad was fijn. Echt fijn om daar na de bootsafari in te kunnen springen.

Het eten en dan vooral de communicatie daarover. We hadden lunch besteld, 2 uur vooraf en het werd bijna een uur na de afgesproken tijd geserveerd. Datzelfde gebeurde met het avondeten, daarnaast hadden we gezegd dat we geen kip of vis wilde en bij het diner werd wel kip geserveerd. Lunch en ontbijt waren wel goed. Diner was niet lekker.

The location was close to everything. The owner was very helpful and organised everything for us with regard to the safari’s. Nothing was too much for them.

Payment is only in cash. Before paying make sure you check the bill as we were over charged $100. (The amounts didn’t add up and we didn’t realised until we had left - the three was changed to a five!). If you go on the safari’s make sure you take enough money to pay the rangers which is not discussed before hand! Bit disappointed as the service was really wonderful

Hôtes incroyablement gentils, très soucieux de tout faire pour que notre séjour se passe au mieux, avec succès puisque ce fut l'un de nos plus beaux souvenirs de nos 18 jours au Sri Lanka ! Superbe piscine très propre ! Très belles chambres et délicieux Petit déjeuner (notamment avec eggs hoppers ). Nous avons fait un boat safari le matin et l'après midi notre hôte nous a fait découvrir un petit village le long de jolis canaux (parcours ombragé qui pourrait être fait en vélo ) et nous a emmené au lac pour le coucher du soleil ! 🤩 Un moment vraiment sympa ! Comme nous repartions à 6h le lendemain matin, il a tenu à nous apporter un thé avant de partir et à nous préparer un petit déjeuner à emporter !

Toller Ausgangspunkt für einen Besuch des Nationalparks. Super nette und hilfsbereite Familie. Umgebung lohnt auch einen längeren Aufenthalt. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt!

Mooie kamer met een fijn zwembad en vriendelijke medewerkers. De locatie is top voor de safari’s die je in Gal Oya National Park kan doen. Via de accomodatie kregen we een contact om de safari’s te boeken. Dat is allemaal goed gegaan en we vonden de bootsafari fantastisch. De jeepsafari vonden we ook leuk maar niet veel toevoegen t.o.v. de bootsafari. We hadden verder weinig onderzoek gedaan naar de mogelijkheden voor safari’s en lazen later dat het misschien goedkoper kon dan wat we hadden betaald.

Het eten was lekker (Sri Lankaans), maar vergeleken met de rest van onze ervaringen onredelijk duur. De kamer was wat gehorig.

Wir hatten das Familienzimmer mit 2 Kingsize Betten und einem Einzelbett. Sehr groß und sauber. Ganz schickes Bad, so ein Bad sahen wir unserer ganzen Reise durch Sri Lanka nicht😉 Die Eigentümer sind sehr nett und sehr bemüht! Es gab das leckerste Frühstück dort! Authentisches Sri Lanka Breakfast! Gut gelegen zum GAL Oya Park. Achtung man muss die Boat Safari bis zu 2 Monate im Voraus buchen!,

Camera e bagno spaziosi, ottima posizione vicino al Gal Oya National Park

Hosts are very warm, accommodating and welcoming. Large room, clean and comfortable. As pictured. Nice pool. Relaxed quiet space. Tasty meals Just would’ve loved our own mini fridge to keep milk and snacks for our young kids. Appreciated that they were able to store for us, thank you.

Die Zimmer waren sehr gross. Der angenehm warme und saubere Pool sowie die ruhige Umgebung waren ebenfalls wunderbar. Aussergewöhnlich toll waren die überaus freundlichen und sehr zuvorkommenden Gastgeber. Es war alles sehr unkompliziert. Weiter herausragend waren die hervorragend zubereiteten landestypischen Mahlzeiten von welchen wir mehr als satt geworden sind. Ebenso erhielten wir von den Gastgebern viele lokale Tipps. Besten dank dafür.👍

Uns hat alles sehr gut gefallen.

Super vriendelijke mensen die altijd klaar stonden om eten te bereiden of een safari te organiseren. Het zwembad is een dikke meerwaarde om te ontspannen na de safari. Het eten was super lekker en er waren grote porties.

Er ontbrak een frigo in de kamer. Alsook zijn de muren heel dun.

Enorm vriendelijke host die ons heeft verrast met een ontbijt dat volledig bestond uit lokale specialiteiten. Na het avondeten de lokale ‘curd’ als toetje. We hadden slechts een paar uur voor aankomst geboekt en hij heeft alles gelijk in orde gemaakt, zodat we snel de kamer in konden. Het zwembad is een groot pluspunt in de warmte in Gal Oya (het water is wel behoorlijk warm).

De locatie is dichtbij de bootverhuur, maar verder is er niets.

La amabilidad de los dueños. El alojamiento está en obras y les queda mucho para terminar, pero lo que está hecho está muy bien. La piscina una maravilla. La comida muy buena, el desayuno muy abundante

La piscina es lo que nos gustó más porque se podía ir cuando querías y también porque estaba caliente y por la noche se encendían las luces y era muy bonita , y la piscina era grande y había un espacio pequeño que no era profundo y otro espacio más grande que era más profundo.

Estábamos al lado de un sitio donde estaban haciendo obras y entonces hacia un poco de ruido. También lo que no nos gustó fue que el señor que organizaba el safari Mr Samith era borde y solo le interesaba el dinero.

Rooms are perfect, just renovated and very big. Amazing area to stay, very quiet and relaxing. Great pool! Delicious meals served :) The owner and his wife are so kind. One of the best places we’ve stayed at!

We can not relate to negative experiences people wrote about. This is absolutely not our experience. We highly recommend going to Ratnapriya Oasis!

The room was spacious and cool and the breakfast was excellent. The pool was enjoyed by the children and the owner was very helpful and accommodating to our needs, organising the boat safari, providing dinner and not being pushy with checkout when the kids were still in the pool.

Slightly more expensive compared to other accomodation in the area but this is probably outweighed but everything else.. building work was happening at the time but this will no doubt be temporary.

We had a pleasant stay at Rathnapriya Oasis close to Gal Oya National Park. Our room and the outside area were very very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet. You can get home cooked Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner for 2000LKR per meal and the food was delicious and always very big portions. Also there are not really any restaurants around. Bandu and Anusha were very nice and organized a jeep safari for us and also local guides who took us on a hike to a beautiful viewpoint.

The pool is new.very nice location close to the national park safaries.Host are very friendly.They organized best boat and jeep safaris.We satisfied. The stay was warmed and loving.Very clean room and delicious foods.price everything are perfected.. We enjoyed our day.

The swimming pool is clean and nice, location not far from the office to buy the safari boat tour by yourselves.

We booked 2 rooms,.they were exactly the same but one was more expensive than the other one. Owner looked not happy if we don't take meals at his place (2000 for a curry seemed expensive for us)

If you book a "king" room, you expect to have a king bed.. which is not the case. Both rooms are exactly the same but not same price. Lunch and dinner expensive.

Le boat safari qui nous a semblé cher (45$ par personne) et sans réel intérêt (c'est joli mais à part des oiseaux et un crocodile nous n'avons rien vu). il n'y avait pas grand chose à faire dans les alentours. Des transats au bord de la piscine seraient appréciables. Globalement cela nous a semblé cher par rapport au reste du Sri Lanka.

Het zwembad is net nieuw en zo heerlijk . Ook het eten wat deze lieve mensen maken is het lekkerste wat wij deze vakantie gegeten hebben .
