Een echte typische homestay in Sri Lanka. Verwacht geen luxe, maar wel de basics. De gastheer maakt lekker ontbijt en dinner en zorgt dat je niet te kort komt En neemt je mee op pad, je kan kiezen tussen een wandeling van 5u of van 10u. In de ochtend en avond komen er apen langs het huis

Je hebt er niet echt privacy omdat je kamers boekt in zijn huis. Geen airco in de kamers, dus het was moeilijk om te slapen in de hitte met enkel een ventilator

Ein toller Platz oberhalb der Strasse im Grünen. Angenehm ruhig mit Familienanschluss. Man wird sehr gut versorgt mit leckeren curries zum dinner und einem reichhaltigen Frühstück, alles selbstgemacht. Michael der Besitzer bietet auch Wandertouren an. Wer kleine oder auch längere walks ohne die Überfüllung wie in Ella zu machen ist hier richtig. Man kann auch ein Bierchen ordern.

I felt very welcome when I arrived, and the first thing I sensed was the peacefulness and calmness surrounding Michel’s house. Michel, the host, is a heart-centered man who truly wanted me to have the best experience. He cooked both dinner and breakfast, and wanted me to have the best local experience with the food, which was excellent. This place felt so special—tucked away in the jungle, yet full of life and learning. The short time I was there I discovered much about the jungle, spices, fruits and animals during my stay. In the morning, Michel took me to one of his lookout points. It was just a 20-minute hike, with beautiful views, and he also told me about the one-day hike that he organizes with I fint have time to do but got curious about it.

We had a wonderful stay at Michael’s homestay. The place is quiet and very beautiful. We went on a 4-hour jungle hike together, met locals, and learned a lot about fruits and plants while enjoying stunning views. The dinner and breakfast were super authentic and delicious. Highly recommended!

Diese Unterkunft ist ein richtiges Homestay mit einem fantastischen Gastgeber! Das Haus liegt absolut ruhig ohne weitere Nachbarn mit viel Land und Dschungel drumherum. Wir hatten ein einfaches Zimmer mit eigenem Bad, das alles hatte, was man braucht. Wir konnten den herrlichen Garten und die Terrasse uneingeschränkt nutzen und haben sogar eine Hängematte aufgehängt bekommen. Unser Gastgeber ist mit uns auf den spannenden Bauernmarkt, damit wir gemeinsam unser Abendessen einkaufen konnten. Bei der Zubereitung in seiner urigen Küche durften wir zuschauen- das ist wirklich ein Erlebnis! Am zweiten Tag hat Michael mit uns eine kleine Wanderung mit Machete durch den Dschungel zu seinem wunderschönen Lieblings-Aussichtsplatz unternommen und uns dabei noch einiges über einzelne Plantagenpflanzen erklärt. Beim Abschied haben wir noch einige Tipps zu Elefantensichtungsplätzen erhalten. Diese Unterkunft ist wirklich etwas Besonderes - herzlichen Dank an Michael für den großartigen Aufenthalt!!

Die Unterkunft liegt etwas abseits des Ortes, aber das macht gerade den Reiz aus und lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!!

Dieses Homestay ist kein Luxusresort – und genau das ist seine größte Stärke. Es ist ein Ort der echten Begegnung, der Einfachheit und der Wärme. Wer Sri Lanka abseits der Touristenströme erleben möchte, mit offenen Menschen und einem großen Herzen, ist hier genau richtig. Schon bei der Ankunft wurden wir mit einem Lächeln empfangen, das von Herzen kam. Der Gastgeber Michael strahlte eine Wärme und Aufrichtigkeit aus, wie man sie nur selten erlebt. Es war sofort spürbar: Hier sind Gäste keine Kunden, sondern willkommene Freunde. Wer Ruhe, Naturverbundenheit und echte Gastfreundschaft sucht, wird in diesem kleinen Homestay in den Hügeln Sri Lankas sein persönliches Paradies finden. Eingebettet in grüne Landschaft, fernab vom Trubel der Städte, war dieser Ort für uns viel mehr als nur eine Unterkunft – es war ein echtes Zuhause auf Zeit. Besonders in Erinnerung geblieben ist uns der Ausflug zu einem Markt, der gemeinsame Abend in seiner offenen Küche und der ganz besondere Ausflug durch den Wald zu seinem persönlichen Aussichtspunkt – „Michael’s Viewpoint“. Wir möchten uns von Herzen für die gemeinsame Zeit mit Michael bedanken und können jedem wärmstens empfehlen hier mindestens eine Nacht auf der Reise zu verbringen!

Michael is a fantastic host. Great place - quiet, surrounded by nature and peaceful

Michael, der Host ist super freundlich. Wir haben spontan gebucht, er hat uns so freundlich empfangen und fragte mehrmals nach, ob wir noch Wünsche haben. Morgens nach dem Frühstück bot er uns an, an einen sehr schönen nahe gelegenen Viewpoint zu gehen und zeigte uns den Dschungel. Absolut zu empfehlen!!!

Etwas abseits von den üblichen Touristenpfaden haben wir bei Michael einen wunderbaren Homestay erlebt. Es lohnt sich, mehr als eine Nacht zu bleiben, um den schönen Garten und die Umgebung zu geniessen. Das Haus ist einfach und sauber. Luxus sucht man vergebens. Man findet jedoch Herzlichkeit, Gastfreundschaft und eine exzellente Küche.

Bardzo sympatyczny i pomocny właściciel. Pokoje czyste i komfortowe. Łazienka również czysta. Pokój wyposażony we wszystko co potrzeba: ręczniki, mydło, papier toaletowy, woda do picia, pościel. Serdecznie polecam!

Unforgettable stay with Micheal – a true taste of Sri Lanka Staying with Micheal was much more than just accommodation — it was an experience. A retired military man with a kind heart, Micheal welcomed us with incredible warmth and generosity. He introduced us to the authentic flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine, even showing us how to prepare traditional dishes in his own kitchen. The highlight of our stay was the guided hike to Monaragala mountain. With Micheal leading the way, we explored breathtaking landscapes and learned so much about the local culture and nature through his stories and deep knowledge of the area. His home is peaceful, well-kept, and made even more special by the presence of two lovely kittens that added a touch of charm and comfort. If you're looking for something genuine and heartfelt, this is the place. Micheal is a host like no other.

Environment

We had a truly extraordinary stay with Michael at Kande Gedara Resort. The accommodation has a huge garden and is surrounded by luscious green. Here you can get a glimpse of an authentic way of living in Sri Lanka. Michael took us for a small hike through the jungle where we saw wild growing pepper and jackfruit trees. You can also go on some more advanced hikes and get spectacular views if you’re staying here. In the evening, Michael taught us how to cook Sri Lankan rice and curry, starting by grating fresh coconut to make coconut milk. He told us about all the spices and we ended up with an amazing dinner! The next day, Michael prepared delicious breakfast for us and helped us to get grease for our rental tuk tuk. All in all we can only recommend staying at Kande Gedara resort if you are looking for an authentic experience, surrounded by nothing but quiet and nature and with Michael as a warm hearted and welcoming host!

The host really made us feel welcome at his gorgeous accomodation. He is a very interesting man with even better cooking skills. The food was all fresh prepared and was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka (and we had a lot). It was an absolute pleasure and we wish him all the best!

An amazing place and man. If you want to climb a nearby peak, walk through the jungle, try wild pepper, cinnamon and other plants Michael will make it possible for you. He took us on an amazing trek, which we could experience thanks to him. As for the accommodation, the beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean. The bed has a mosquito net, but I did not notice any mosquitoes in the evening (unusual). Michael is talkative, you can ask him about everything and he is very keen to show you what is best in Sri Lanka. I highly recommend staying with him.

Michael is a fantastic host! His home is a true oasis, located in amongst trees and wildlife. We loved his chatty and friendly cat, and of course his food was amazing. Dinner is 1800 LKR/person, which for us was a little pricey, however worth it. A home away from home! Thank you so much, Michael.

Everything was great!

Michael was one of the friendliest and kindest host we've had in Sri Lanka so far... and Sri Lanka is full of great people! The location is great if you are into nature and calm places, away from the crowds. He welcomed us with tea and snacks and we went for a short hike around the place. After that, Michael cooked the best rice and curry we've tried in Sri Lanka in about a month of our stay. Plus, you are welcome to learn the recipe! I would definitely come back to meet him back again.

This was a superb place- kind and generous host , beautiful dinner and breakfast and the setting was serene. Just perfect! Thankyou Michael for taking such good care of us - highly recommend!!

The host is really friendly and welcoming. The place lies in a beautiful natural setting away from the busy main road.

There was only a fan and no airconditioning in the room, what made it a bit hot. And there is a damp smell in the bathroom. A window there might help.

Michael the host and owner of the resort is the best host I have yet experienced. The place was clean and beautifuly set in a nature setting. Micheal took us on a stunning hike through the mountains, took us to the local market, cooked for us and gave us a Sri Lankan cooking lesson. He was above and beyond nice, helpful and hospitable. A plus are the kittens and a sweet dog that roam around the place. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Michael is a Host among hosts. The level of attention, care, and kindness shown by him is exceptional. He went out of his way to always make sure I was as happy and comfortable as possible. Spending so much time and effort just trying to understand me. He even guided us up the mountain. And never asked for extra, this is the thing: he is truly not all about the money. Which is a disappointingly rare trait nowadays. It is also very tranquil there and highly recommend to anyone considering going through the area to stay here. Food also great!

Awesome location in the middle of the forest. If you're looking for the real Sri lanka or to see the real Sri lanka life this is the place for you! Michael the host is just amazing and will do anything to make you feel at home and will assist with anything you may need. I was travelling alone so we were preparing dinner together and he expalined me everything bout the local food. Overall it was great experience for me and if you're in the area i would highly recommend to stop over :)

The area around this place is super beautiful and quiet! We enjoyed our stay in the middle of nature a lot, Michael was very welcoming and friendly, even took us for a nice hike! He is the best cook, food is amazing!

A very nice and charming experience. Clean room, not too big, but you can sleep with an open window. No mosquitoes. Here you can get in contact with the real life of Sri Lanka. Excellent food!

+ familiar feeling with host Michael and his son + perfect cool sleep without mosquitos + pets (dog, cat) and wild animals around the house (dandulena, monkeys, birds) + very good food: fresh, local, organic, homemade + wonderful hike to the highest mountain in the range with authentic village vibes and djungel feeling

- bathroom needs a bit more cleaning - that we hadn't more time to stay :) And you, who is reading this, take the chance and go there, it's a call to experience a piece of real Sri Lanka.

The owner, Michael is an exceptionally fine host. His only motivation is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. This is our 10th year in SL and we have had few meals as skilfully prepared. Just tell him what you like to eat and he'll oblige. The countryside here is amazing and quiet although only 2.5km from the town centre. On top of all this, his prices for food and drink are exceptionally fair. Highly recommend.

This place is outstanding if you want to experience a very authentic way of living with the host. Hiking, going to the local markets and cooking together. The place and the host Michael with a huge heart. A must do if you're around!

That I left

Secluded oasis from frenetic Sri Lanka. Beautiful location, very peaceful with monkeys, giant squirrels and birds. Michael took us on a good jungle walk gathering green peppercorns and curry leaves for that evening's dinner. Very comfortable bed. Wonderful dinner and breakfast, far too much food and extremely good value.

Leaving!

Staying was Michael was simply amazing. We did a little jungle tour, went to the market together and he showed us how to cook some delicious Sri Lankan Curries. Everything was super clean and even more importantly there was always a super chilled vibe. ;)

I had a big comfortable bed, in a nice clean room with a bathroom. I loved the peace and quiet as the place is surrounded by trees so you literally sleep in the middle of the forest. The host Michael is sweet beyond words. The moment I opened my door a mug of fresh hot coffee with some yummy pastries were waiting for me served on the sunny porch. I will be returning that’s for sure. Thank you Michael🙏

We had a very good stay at Michael’s resort. The yard is really nice and peaceful. You can hear and see all kind of birds, make a nice hike with Michael (the host), and see monkeys jumping from tree to tree. Also, Michael prepares very tasty traditional Sri Lankan meals for fair prices. I would really recommend this place if you like nature, animals, hiking. Facilities were good in relation to the (low) price.

Beautifully run, relaxing guest house in the hills a couple km out of Monaragala. Surrounded by pleasant forest. Monkey and Giant squirrel visits. Peaceful forest sounds. Good place to start the hike to Maragala (Siripathula) Mountain. Wonderful manager Michael, very accommodating and relaxing. Great cook! Very nice and quiet place to relax and have good time. Michael is a wonderful host and also a wonderful cook.

Wonderful location away from the center, surrounded by beautiful nature, with the jungle and the mountains right at your door for hiking. Calm and relaxing, ideal starting point for walks. You'll need a tuk tuk to get to town, but the manager can organize one for you, or you can hail them on the road. There is also a convenient bus stop for the town at the entrance of the residence. Only a couple of rooms guarantee a nice quiet stay. The super friendly manager lives on site and will prepare Sri Lankan dinners and breakfasts for you at a very reasonable price. He's always available and willing to help. At the residence, you'll find an indoor dining room, a lounge, an outdoor patio, and gardens all around. Very affordable, clean, and comfortable. Please note that there is no hot water, but the cold water is not that cold. No A/C either, but the night air is cool, so we slept with the windows opened. The drive up to the residence is rough and very steep, but the tuk tuk manage to get up there, not so sure with a low car.

The thick pillow gave me a neck ache in the morning. A mosquito net around the bed would be great. There is only a fan in the room. With this heat, it is nice to sleep with the windows open. Unfortunately, open windows attract bugs.

The property was located in an environmentally friendly atmosphere surrounded with mixed trees and plants in a mountainous area (as implied by the Sinhalese name 'Kanda'. Micheal who is the owner and was looking after the property was friendly and ready to help. He also cooked and prepared Sri Lankan type food as per pre order with reasonable time in advance for him to go to shops and purchase the food items to cook.

The entrance the property was steep and rough and was not suitable for my car Suzuki Swift RS with a very low front spoiler. So the car was left on the drive of the neighbour opposite who kindly allowed me to park there. The was clean to local Sri Lankan standards only. No hot/warm water for shower.

The caretaker was very helpful. It was difficult for our car to go up the last bit so he immediately called for a tuk-tuk and arranged to take everyone up even at 8:30 PM. His food was delicious as well! The location is beautiful and calm in the morning! Very good value for money!
