Breakfast was very good - bread, cheese, meats, fruit and savouries, with lots of coffee, served beautifully in a garden terrace room. The hotel has been converted from a 19th century mansion and is absolutely stunning, with huge rooms and great views. My room with balcony was palatial! Ensuite bathrooms are modern, with everything you could want. The hotel is in a pretty side street within two minutes' walking distance of the centre and very near the river, yet very peaceful at night. The staff are friendly, charming and very helpful. A definite five stars.

I liked everything! If you want a slick contemporary hotel, go elsewhere. If you want beautiful rooms, elegant furniture, a real taste of the past with all the conveniences of the present, stay here. One thing: the hotel has a grand central staircase but no lift, so there are stairs to climb to the upper floors.

Wenn man über die Schwelle dieser Stadtvilla schreitet, kommt man in eine andere Welt. Der herzliche Empfang der Inhaberin und die persönliche Note in diesem Haus sind einfach zauberhaft. Das ganze Haus atmet Geschichte und ist bis ins kleinste Detail inspirierend eingerichtet. Die Zimmer sind gross und mit allem ausgestattet, was man sich wünscht. Wir haben den Aufenthalt hier überaus genossen, auch die Gemeinschaftsräume sind schlicht grossartig. Die Stuckatur an den Decken ist grossartig. Das Frühstück sucht seinesgleichen, es wird persönlich zubereitet und ist exzellent. Hier ist wirklich eine Oase der Herzlichkeit und wir danken der Inhaberin nochmals für die leider viel zu kurze Zeit.

Das war das schönste Hotel meiner Reise. Die Villa ist sehr schön mit Antiquitäten eingerichtet. Jedes Zimmer ist individuell möbliert. Die Lage ist zentral in der Altstadt und sehr ruhig gelegen. Das Frühstück war hervorragend. Die Eigentümerin und ihr Team sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ich habe mich sehr wohl gefühlt.

Es gibt nichts zu bemängeln.

Kein wirkliches Problem aber Aircon war zu kalt eingestellt - Umwelt und Kosten.

This is a personal preference but the bed was too firm for me to be comfortable.

Die Gastgeberin war freundlich und der Aufenthalt in dem mehrere hundert Jahre alten und mit Liebe restaurierten Gebäude etwas Besonderes.. Mehrere großzügige Salons und eine Veranda sind gemeinschaftlich nutzbar und mit historischem Mobiliar ausgestattet

Wir waren zu dritt. Insbesondere das Einzelzimmer hatte natürlich seinen Preis.

Everything was very good, on a day when the Portuguese general strike had messed up our plans considerably. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts of the hotel and felt at home right away.

That we arrived so late that we had little time to take in the town or settle into the beautiful hotel facilities.

Wir haben sehr viel über die Geschichte des Hauses erfahren und fühlten uns wie in einem kleinen Museum. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und wunderbar zubereitet. Zusätzlich erhielten wir großzügiger Weise ein Upgrade unseres Zimmers. Wir werden gerne wiederkommen, um diese Vorzüge mehrere Tage genießen zu dürfen.

Wonderful hotel and staff in a historic home that has been renovated! The rooms were huge, and my superior double room even included an additional sitting room that I did not expect. Centrally located, yet very quiet. Elaborate breakfast with many offerings. Everything was top-notch. They aim to please. I would defintely stay here again.

Rummet är mycket fint, men sängarna borde bytas ut. Sängkläderna borde helst vara vita och det borde finnas påslakan för hygieniska skäl. Överkasten kan skippas.

La estancia ha sido estupenda. Tiago ha estado siempre pendiente de que nuestra estancia fuera perfecta. El detalle de regalarnos el libro con la historia de la casa nos ha encantado.

What can I say. This unique hotel is very special. This is a wonderful experience and so much more than a bed for the night. It was a priviledge to stay. The owner and staff so welcoming and knowledgeable about the building and its history. The communal rooms that you can use as you wish, free port and unlimited coffee,teas just add that extra touch. Exceptional.

The property is stunning. It is a living piece of history with beautiful architecture, materials, and furnishings. The staff is excellent, but Tiago deserves special recognition. He is innkeeper, chef, docent, and concierge...all-in-one. He made sure we had everything we needed, offered wonderful places and to visit, and helped us with travel plans after we left this hotel. Breakfast was included in the price, and you absolutely must take advantage of it. When is it? Whenever you want. You tell them the time, and they accommodate it. Where is it? In an exquisite sun room with views of their private garden. What is it? Coffee, tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruits, breads & pastries, yogurt, granola, eggs to order, meats, cheeses and probably anything else you want. It was the perfect way to start each day. The location can't be beat. It is in the historical center with tons of shops, restaurants and points of interest within a 5-minute walk. And don't worry about what times you leave/return. They give you a key to the front door of the property. You can come and go at whatever hours suit your schedule. Whenever we return to Viana do Castelo, we will stay at this amazing property.

It sounds cliche, but there was nothing we didn't like. The few things I would change are so specific to me, that it would be unnecessary and unwise to make them.

Outstanding experience! Such a lovely stay. Excellent welcoming service. The room, common areas, and property are gorgeous. Very much a palace experience. Their pride of the property shines through. We highly recommend. We felt like we were a prince and a princess in a palace. Everything exceeded our expectations at Casa Manuel Espregueira. Even the breakfast was a real delight, from fresh fruit to even cooked to order eggs, and beautifully presented with the option to be served in the courtyard, dining room or in the sunroom. The room and bathroom were beautifully decorated with antiques yet very modern with an excellent shower. It was much larger than typically found and plenty of windows to allow the sunlight in. The location is very easy to access via the train and on a nice narrow main, possibly pedestrian only street, with shops, restaurants and people watching. The restaurant they recommended was very good, be sure to make reservations. We planned our visit around a fun charming annual festival in August that we fully enjoyed. We had the chance to meet a colleague of the owners of the property who is a gifted artist. If you get a chance check out his work. Note there are stairs, like in Gone with the Wind, but not a problem as they are at the ready to help.

The guesthouse, and our room, were absolutely beautiful and impeccably clean and well-cared-for. We had a small cozy balcony, perfect for reading. Breakfasts were very good, and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

I can't think of a thing!

I had no idea what I was booking when I had to find a hotel for one night lastminute while in Viana do Castelo. Had I known what a gem this place was, I would have stayed here for the full time that I was in town. It was beautiful, historic, and run by a team that you can tell really, really cares about hospitality. Everyone I met was lovely. The room was comfortable, quiet, clean and spacious, the breakfast was perfect, and the gardens were a lovely treat. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer to soak in the spirit of this place. If I have the luck of passing by Viana do Castelo again, this is where I will stay.

Very clean accommodation in the centre of the village. It has a museum feeling as all furniture's and decoration are very old.

For my taste it was a bit too much of museum style but many people might like it. The smell in the house is a bit old as well.

La única pequeña "pega" es que nos tocó la habitación en el último piso, que si bien nos encantó, son bastantes escaleras.

Ambiente accogliente, perfetto per un’esperienza genuina e personalizzata. Personale estremamente gentile e disponibile. Camera bella e buona colazione. Situato in pieno centro con parcheggio coperto a cinque minuti di distanza.

It is in the perfect location -- just step out the door to be in the midst of it all, or step inside or into the back garden for some beauty & serenity. The breakfast is outstanding, the service is outstanding -- we couldn't be happier.

Die Badezimmer erfüllen sind modern und erfüllen höchste Ansprüche. Die Unterkunft liegt mitten in einer Fußgängerzone im alten Stadtkern, also Toplage.

Struttura bellissima, edificio storico, con arredamento d'epoca originale. Perfetto per chi ama l'eleganza di fine '800, primi del '900. Ho amato la balconata dove servono la colazione, con tavoli e sedie in ferro battuto e la colazione servita in modo meraviglioso, elegante e ricco di dettagli accurati. Tutta la casa è veramente degna di nota, la sala in comune, con un'antica scacchiera, un mappando e una ricca biblioteca, è una vera perla. La stanza da letto era molto grande luminosa e i letti comodissimi. A colazione ho chiesto una spremuta di limone e il personale è andato a raccogliere un limone nel giardino per farmi una spremuta al momento: servizio da 5 stelle davvero!

What a lovely night of luxury on my Camino journey! The staff were wonderful and this historic location is very close to the Camino. Breakfast was exceptional and they accommodated my gluten allergies, which was a treat! Make sure to check out the whole place and the art work.

It was a lovely hotel with an interesting history but after a long day's walking we wish the tour had been optional.

La casa es preciosa. Nos subieron la categoría de la habitación sin coste adicional porque tenían disponibilidad (estamos muy agradecidos) El trato es excelente. La habitación es grande, cómoda, con un balcón/galeria con un par de butacas donde disfrutar del atardecer. El desayuno lo sirven en una terraza con vistas al jardín y el sagrado corazón al fondo que es una gozada. El desayuno en si es excelente. Vamos, es un sitio para volver, volver y volver.

Me gustó todo. Esto son solo observaciones. La casa es del siglo XIX y magníficamente conservada pero por eso mismo no tiene ascensor y la accesibilidad es la que es. Está en zona peatonal pero hay parking a 10 minutos andando sin dificultad

Wonderful and attentive hosts; we really liked the individual breakfasts each morning. Great location for exploring Viana and close to bus and train stations. Very comfortable bedroom in an interesting house (thank you for the lovely book!).

La casa es un tesoro en pleno corazón de Viana. Cada una de sus dependencias guarda un pedacito de historia y tanto los propietarios de la cada como las personas que trabajan con ellos hacen que la estancia se convierta en una experiencia única. Las habitaciones son espaciosas y no escatiman en detalles

No puedo poner ninguna objeción. Es cierto que no tienen ascensor y eso puede suponer un problema a personas con poca movilidad, pero si no tienes problemas subiendo escaleras, ponen todo de su parte para que no tengas que hacer ningún esfuerzo extra, como subirte las maletas o ayudarte en lo que sea preciso.
