Reviewed Jul 17, 2026It’s a place we have returned to time and again. Received like old friends. And we love the whole setting. The new dining area is amazing with a roaring fire. And the food for both dinner and breakfast was amazing. The chef takes great pride in his food and presentation! Waldo and Isabel are incredible hosts.
There is nothing to dislike.

Reviewed Jul 16, 2026Cercavamo una sistemazione per una notte tra il parco del Kruger e Hluhluwe. Direi che non potevamo essere più fortunati. Da Piet Retief dista circa 20 minuti, la strada non è bellissima, ci sono diverse buche, sembra di essere finiti nella terra del nulla ma poi si arriva al Lodge. I titolari sono carinissimi e là struttura è ben curata e tenuta. La stanza è molto grande con cucina privata e bagno di ottime dimensioni. Abbiamo usufruito della cena, c’è un cuoco privato che si occupa della preparazione dei piatti, è stato bravissimo. Siamo stati in una notte cui faceva abbastanza freddo e il caminetto a legna nel soggiorno e stato davvero molto accogliente e suggestivo. Lo consiglio assolutamente!

Reviewed May 21, 2026Wij hadden dit geboekt voor een tussenstop van Kruger naar St Lucia.. we waren buitengewoon verrast…! Vriendelijk ontvangst en zeer nette, schone cottages . Ze waren zeer uitgebreid met álles wat je nodig hebt, zelfs een elektrische deken als daar behoefte voor is! Rustig gelegen op een heuvel met magistraal uitzicht en prachtige zonsopgang en ondergang. Boek zeker een diner er bij! Zeer betaalbaar en erg goed verzorgd. Ontbijt was ook weer helemaal geweldig. Echte aanrader voor een tussenstop, zelfs voor 2 nachten.

Reviewed Apr 30, 2026Dit is een unieke plek! We hebben veel locaties gezien, maar deze is echt top. Je voelt direct als je de plaats op rijdt de rust. Het is perfect onderhouden, het eten (zowel lunch, diner als ontbijt) is uitmuntend. De eigenaren zijn enorm vriendelijk. De kinderen mochten de kalfjes mee te drinken geven. Een hele dikke aanrader als je op doorreis bent naar bijv St. Lucia!

Reviewed Apr 25, 2026Wat een geweldige verrassing deze prachtige plek! Geboekt voor een overnachting onderweg van Hoedspruit naar St. Lucia. Zeer warm ontvangst, ontzettend gastvrije en vriendelijke eigenaren. Het diner en ontbijt zijn echt fantastisch. Zeer goed verzorgd en heel smaakvol. De appartementen zijn van alle details voorzien, je wordt echt volledig in de watten gelegd.

Reviewed Jan 9, 2026Unser Aufenthalt in der Forest Hill Country Lodge – auch wenn es nur eine Nacht mit 6 Erwachsenen und 2 Kindern war – war einfach wunderschön und bleibt uns lange in Erinnerung. Dieser besondere Ort wird von Menschen geführt, die ihn mit unglaublich viel Liebe, Herzlichkeit und Aufmerksamkeit erfüllen. Die Inhaber sind außergewöhnlich warmherzig und präsent, ohne jemals aufdringlich zu sein. Vom ersten Moment an fühlt man sich ehrlich willkommen, fast wie bei guten Freunden. Sie schaffen eine Atmosphäre der Ruhe und Geborgenheit, die man nur selten findet. Die Lodge selbst liegt auf einer traumhaft schönen, äußerst gepflegten Farm inmitten einer beeindruckenden Naturkulisse. Die Umgebung ist so idyllisch, dass man sich sofort vorstellen kann, hier besondere Lebensmomente wie eine Hochzeit zu feiern – was dort tatsächlich auch möglich ist. Alles ist bis ins Detail liebevoll angelegt und perfekt gepflegt. Die Zimmer sind groß, sehr sauber und komfortabel und mit allem ausgestattet, was man benötigt! Auch der kleine, sehr saubere Pool ist ein echtes Plus – perfekt für Erwachsene und Kinder gleichermaßen. Ein echtes Highlight war das Essen. Hier spürt man Leidenschaft und Qualität in jedem Detail. Fred, der gekocht hat, ist nicht nur ein hervorragender Koch, sondern auch ein unglaublich freundlicher und sympathischer Mensch. Seine Küche ist mit Liebe zubereitet und hat unseren Aufenthalt kulinarisch perfekt abgerundet. Wir sind mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht und einem warmen Gefühl im Herzen abgereist und wären sehr gerne länger geblieben. Vielen Dank für diesen tollen Aufenthalt!

Reviewed Nov 6, 2025This was the best accomodation we could have chosen. Everyone was so kind to us, we were offered amazing dinner, they even had no problem with vegetarian option. Reina is an excellent cook and both dinner and breakfast were stunning. We liked our apartment as well, very clean and comfortable. The view from the garden is incredible. Thank you so much, we can only recommend Forrest Hill lodge!

Reviewed Oct 25, 2025Schönes Farmhaus auf Anhöhe im Wald. Zimmer mit allem ausgestattet, was man braucht. Köstliches Abendessen und Frühstück durch Haushälterin, in sehr schönen Räumlichkeiten. Das zugehörige Dorf Wittenberg hat eine deutsche Primarschule und eine luth. Kirche. Gut geeignete Übernachtungsmöglichkeit auf halbem Weg von St. Lucia und JHB
14 km außerhalb Piet Retief, nicht leicht zu finden, Vorsicht Navi! Wir hatten Pech mit nasskaltem, nebligem Wetter, bekamen aber Heizdecke. Der deutschsprachige Inhaber, von dem schöne Schreinerarbeiten zu sehen sind, war grade im Urlaub.

Eine liebevoll geführte Farm, ruhig im Grünen gelegen, mit wunderschönen Ausblicken und gemütlichen Unterkünften. Das Abendessen und das Frühstück können wir allen nur empfehlen. Auch wenn wir nur eine Nacht dort verbrachten, fühlten wir uns sofort angekommen. Nochmals vielen Dank!!!

This is something that stood out a lot.. we appreciated it a lot. The rooms is beautiful and everything needed is there. They spoiled us with an excellent breakfast. The view at the lodge is breathtaking... Will definitely visit again.

The food is homely and since we are in winter you can enjoy a lovely glass of wine in front of the fireplace before enjoying a lovely home cooked meal. The surroundings are stunning, accomodation beautiful and facilities are great. The added bonus is a couple of the softest ear'ed dogs I've ever met.....

The weather! Nothing else to complain about, will definitely visit again on way to Mpumalanga.
