Reviewed Mar 13, 2026Un hôte aux petits soins et un emplacement idéal pour observer les aurores depuis la maison.
Bien que nous ayons eu quelques difficultés à allumer le poêle à notre arrivée et que nous n'avons pas su conduire notre voiture jusqu'à l'hébergement à cause de la glace au sol, le propriétaire nous a bien aidé et s'est assuré que nous passions le meilleur séjour possible !
Cela n'était pas un problème pour nous, mais si vous êtes bien organisé, pensez à faire vos courses à Tromso dès votre arrivée. Il y a un magasin à 30 min en voiture de la maison qui est assez complet mais probablement plus cher.

Reviewed Jan 20, 2026Very roomy. Lovely wood-fired stove. Very good kitchen with facilities and fresh coffee. Very warm and comfortable with french doors to take a look outside. Fantastic lounge chairs.
With a 4-wheel drive car in winter, it was a pleasant drive when it wasn't snowing.

Negligible minor issue - some minor wear and tear part in the house.
The opposite small house lighting is distracting when taking northern photo. Will bi good able to turn off upon request.

Reviewed Sep 30, 2025Lovely home in a fantastic location in a forest by a beautiful lake. Very well equipped every kitchen cupboard was full of stuff. Lots of towels and bedding. Warm. Key was in the door when we arrived and next day owner Jan came over to meet us and say hello. Lovely walks to be had from the front door or a short drive to Mikkelvika for a short coastal trail and views from up a small hill. Wish we had stayed longer than just two days.
We liked everything. Note that booking dot com say strange things like “shared toilet” and even “shared kitchen” but it definitely is one separate detached house for you and not a hostel!

L'endroit est très calme, nous conseillons cet hébergement sans retenue.
Nous avons été accueillis par les propriétaires extrêmement bienveillants.
Beautiful cabin in the middle of nowhere (but close to the lake), cosy, very well kept, with fully equipped kitchen. I indicated zero for the staff only because this parameter is not applicable: we had no contact with anybody, the key was on the door.
Nothing to mention.

What an experience to have stayed at Karistua for over a week!
The view from every window is breathtaking, the peacefulness the moment you enter the valley. The lake holds so much character, we found ourselves staring endlessly at it.
We cannot recommend this place enough.
Although a drive from Tromsø, we found each journey to be different, if we were to head in that direction. The ever changing landscapes and views make the drive feel 5 minutes.
The cabin, in our opinion, is the warmest place in the arctic circle. The host has made it very homely, cosy and perfect for a couple, or family - filled with all you need for a short or long stay.
The town near us called Hansnes has a EuroSpar and surprisingly a good size for a small or big shop.
You're surrounded by hikes, mountains, trees, nature and often in a short distance, reindeer.
In a heartbeat, we would return, especially in the summer to see the island differently and experience it all over again.

Reviewed Nov 27, 2024Away from the crowds this place serves as an ideal home base to which you can return to after a roadtrip through the northern fjords. During the night we could see northers lights all around us (late November, cloudy but the sky cleared up for 2-3h).
The fireplace is a huge plus and provides a nice ambiance next to „heat“. The kitchen was well equipped and we could easily prepare food on both days of our stay.
On one day the landlord removed some snow from the path which led to our cabin - helpful as we used it with our car.
Note: We didn’t use the 2nd floor at all. We also never met the landlord - this can feel weird but we actually enjoyed the seclusion.
Everything was good. The only confusing part was the waste separation: In the waste drawer there were 3-4 bags for different waste types, but some didn’t seem to match still (e.g. a glass jar doesn’t fit to paper, organic, or plastic). So we were puzzling for the 2 days but then realized on the last day of our departure that all bags were disposed all together in one black container - I still hope we didn’t mess this up. 🙏🏻

Reviewed Mar 21, 2024Best part of this stay was the host who went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. The cottage is beautiful, in middle of nature, amazing lake view and with all facilities you need during a vacation.
Everything was perfect and as described. We are very happy with our stay and I would definitely go back.

Reviewed Feb 28, 2024We were warmly welcomed by Jan, who was extremely supportive during our stay in Karistua. He made sure we had all what was needed to relax and unwind.
We loved the cabin. It has everything you need for a short or long stay. Amenities are top notch including sharp knives ( we love to cook). After a long day out cross country skiing we were so happy to warm up near the fireplace. Cabin is also extremely well insulated with floor heating in some parts! We didn’t want to leave! It’s easy to find even in the dark.

Reviewed Feb 9, 2024The experience was exceptional in every aspect. The place exceeded expectations with its abundance of space and a fully equipped kitchen. Despite the already efficient central heating, a charming fireplace added to the cozy atmosphere. Jan, our host, was outstanding, attending to every need with warmth and efficiency.
Leaving! It was so difficult. We were already planning our return before we even departed. That's how much we enjoyed our stay!

The cabin has everything you need for a cozy stay. Plenty of room, fireplace, nature and brilliant views.
We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights almost every night during our week long stay.
We didn't want to leave, we would happily move there ;)

Reviewed Nov 27, 2022Our stay was absolutelly wonderful! We arrived at late night, saw nothern lights the same night and in the morning we could see breathtaking view on fjord just from the window. I would consider similar picture a kitch, but it was a beautiful colorful reality (although in November!).
Everything was just perfect - well equiped house, superfast WiFi, big bathroom, nice dining room. We could see nothern lights almost every day, althouth it was cloudy. We didn't have a chance to meet the owner, but we didn't feel lost or alone, we have communicated over the booking chat. Happy to come back one day.
The only thing we would change was the strong light from the house on the opposite. It is a bit annoying when you watch the nothern lights, but you can go few steps aside and that is it - problém solved
