Reviewed Aug 13, 2026This was the third time we stayed at the Boathouse. The cottage is cosy and beautifully decorated, the location is excellent among the wineries, close to Arrowtown for dinner and easily accessible to the ski resorts. It's relaxing and a much better alternative to hotel type accomodation if you are staying for a few days and really want to feel the Queenstown atmosphere. The hosts are lovely too.

The bed was very comfortable and the outdoor bath was a lovely touch to enjoy on both evenings we were there. There is an outdoor fire and BBQ too. The shower is excellent. The Church Cafe and Kinross Winery & Bistro are only a few minutes walk if you want a meal and a drink (or wine tasting). The hosts were both friendly and helpful - we also met Billy (the dog) who loves pats. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed at booking time here.
The internet is slow but only an issue if that is a 'must have'.

The outdoor bath under a clear star filled sky was the icing on the cake. Bring food though as you won’t want to leave and the walkable vineyards stop at 6pm

Reviewed Dec 10, 2025The accommodation location, styling, amenities (and hosts) were SO lovely. We've stayed in a lot of private accommodation around the world and I think this was one of our favourites, if not the top 2 or 3! We loved the proximity to such stunning locations, from the walk down to the river, to the local vineyards and cellar doors, the Gibbston Valley Winery just down the road (and the cheese shop was a fabulous tasting experience as was the wine). We also hired e-bikes from the bike shop there and spent the day exploring the valley. We loved heading back to the Boathouse at night with some red wine to sit by the fire - both indoor and outdoor fireplaces and the outdoor bath were such nice touches. I hope to be back again in the future and will bring more friends!
You won't want to leave haha. There was nothing we didn't like. In all honestly you'll be torn between exploring the local area and just staying IN the boathouse enjoying all of the amenities with a bottle of wine and some take-out food. We did a mix of both and thoroughly enjoyed our two days. Shelley was a lovely host and gave us some awesome tips for grabbing dinner and spending the day out on bikes.

Reviewed Nov 2, 2025We travelled around New Zealand for two weeks, and this stay was the absolute highlight of our honeymoon. The accommodation had a beautiful French country aesthetic, elegant, charming, and full of character. Loved waking up in the morning with the white window shutters leading to a mountain view. The woodfire made the evenings wonderfully cozy, and the outdoor bath was perfectly designed for stargazing under the night sky. The hosts were genuinely lovely and welcoming, and their stunning grounds have completely inspired what I want my own garden to become. We also adored visits from Billy, the gorgeous pup who came by for morning cuddles. We couldn’t recommend this place more highly it’s pure magic!

Also house was full of nice details in decoration. Washing machine was also great! And it was lovely to cuddle Billy-dog as we are missing our own dogs 😆

The accommodation was so cute and comfortable; nothing was lacking. The hosts have great style and practicality. French country side! The bedding was amazing as well - luxurious. Such thoughtful details in the design and phenomenal location right across from Kinross and next to the biking trails. And the outdoor bath was incredible! Cannot wait to come back!

We completely cooked ourselves with the roaring fire on our first night! Plus their gorgeous Cavoodle quickly made friends with ours. We felt like the best fur-parents ever.

The cottage was well insulated from the cold and the air conditioning or a slow combustion heater provided extra warmth. The host provided every comfort necessary for a perfect stay. The kitchen was well stocked with several pantry items. Bedrooms were spacious with quality bedding and comfortable beds. Cottage was close to wineries, restaurants and scenic walks. The host was friendly, responsive to messages and considerate.
We couldn’t find fault with anything.

(2 night stay)You are on a highway with not much around that was open. The 3 places that we thought we could eat at (which were in the guide book were all shut-we ended up driving over to Arrowtown). Bring something for breakfast as nothing provided except fruit and milk- and nothing open close by. A coffee(pod) machine would be a nice addition.

it was all very good but perhaps lacked that personal touch. a welcome something would’ve been nice. doesn’t need to be expensive but given they’re in the middle of the fruit bowl of NZ, a small selection would’ve gone along way. wouldn’t mind paying more. Upon arrival we gave our host some fruit in a box to put in the fridge as we were early for check in. when we returned it was kind of dumped in the fridge on its side in a bowl. beautiful place and worth the money but the hosts seemed a bit over it to be fair.
